Here’s the not so simple answer; if you plan on taking LOTS of photos and learning how to edit them on your computer buy a Canon or Nikon SLR and Adobe Light Room 3.0. Be prepared to spend $700-1500 on the camera and various lenses and accessories. IF you do not want to spend an equal amount of time editing your images on the computer DON’T BUY an SLR. <br />

Here’s the reality folks; most people buy entry line SLRs and NEVER take them off full auto and only use the kit lens. This makes the $1000 camera a big point-and-shoot camera with identical results. WHY SPEND THE MONEY?? <br />
<br />
Calculate your cost per image. Camera cost/number of printed images.<br />
<br />
Now if you want really good images and have a budget of around <$500, buy one of the many high end “all-in-one” cameras. These cameras are excellent and have comparable results to almost any SLR for the average entry SLR purchaser.<br />
<br />
Take your pick any “all-in-one” camera about $350 or higher will work just fine and give you excellent results, extended zoom and portable size. Try and get one with an optional external flash for low light shooting.<br />
