<p>Highlights:</p>

North Dakota was the only state that fared better than Louisiana with an overall economic index of 7.463.  </p></blockquote>
<p>There&#8217;s more:</p>
<blockquote><p>Louisiana&#8217;s position has improved across a variety of national business climate rankings over the last two years, including Forbes.com&#8217;s Best States for Business, Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council&#8217;s Business Tax Index and Small Business Survival Index, Beacon Hill Institute&#8217;s State Competitiveness Report, Pacific Research Institute&#8217;s Economic Freedom Index, CNBC&#8217;s America&#8217;s Top States for Business, Kauffman&#8217;s State New Economy Index and State Policy Reports&#8217; Index of Economic Momentum.</p>
<p>In addition, Louisiana currently ranks in the top five in ethics rankings published by the Better Government Association, and Center for Public Integrity recently announced Louisiana&#8217;s legislative disclosure requirement was first in the nation. Louisiana also won the Co-state of the Year award from Southern Business and Development.</p></blockquote>
<p>The Governor was quoted as stating that while he is pleased, he is not resting on this accomplishment:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;Portfolio.com&#8217;s analysis underscores what we have known for a long time &#8212; Louisiana&#8217;s economy consistently has outperformed the South and the U.S. since the beginning of the national recession,&#8221; said Gov. Bobby Jindal. &#8220;While we are pleased with this ranking, we will continue to aggressively pursue economic development efforts so that we can remain ahead of the South and the U.S., but more importantly, so that we can create more opportunity for our people.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>This is very impressive.  The state that beat Louisiana is North Dakota.  I salute North Dakota for its clean government and good people but I think Louisiana might have several business advantages over ND &#8211; climate, The Big Easy, culture, food and of course the SAINTS!  (Still unbeaten!) </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I may write in more detail but I can see that the downplaying of the role Ronald Reagan played in the fall of Soviet Communism has begun in earnest. </p>
<p>When I was in the Ukraine in 2006, I remember talking with a group of people, one of whom was a believer who had endured communist persecution.  All of the sudden, he said to our mission trip group (we were there to train pastors and start churches in villages) that the Russians, they were afraid of Reagan.  I believe there can be no politics on a missions trip but I shyly pointed to the Ukrainian believer in Christ and stated that he was right.  We ended up having a two hour conversation about politics and religion afterwards. </p>
<p>My fellow conservatives and libertarians know well that Reagan&#8217;s determination to build our defenses and confront communism while also seeking arms limitations were crucial to victory.  He did have help.  Lech Walesa credited Pope John Paul II (the Polish cardinal) is assisting in the fall of communism.  Certainly God had a plan and a man to fulfill His plan in Karol Wojtyla.  There was also Margaret Thatcher in the United Kingdom.  Even President Carter, flawed as his presidency was, made it clear to Brezhnev that an invasion of Poland in 1980 was unacceptable. </p>
<p>Of course Mikhail Gorbachev played an important role.  I admire Gorbachev very much.  He wanted to radically change in a humanistic and democratic way the communist state.  The fact that the Soviet hierarchy could produce such a person gives us hope for other authoritarian states.  God had this man in place as well. </p>
<p>Let us remember those days when we looked at maps and saw the Evil Empire and all its conquests and thought nothing will ever change.  But it did change.  Praise God!  When I spoke at the pastor&#8217;s conference on that missions trip, the first words I said (after a few words of bad Russian!) was how this was a miracle of God that I could teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in what had been part of the Soviet Union.</p>
<p>Yes, you and I know:  Reagan did it with help.<br />

<p>Hoffman has been endorsed not only by the Assistant Blogger but by other conservatives such as former Senator Fred Thompson, former Governors Sarah Palin and Tim Pawlenty and Congressman Michelle Bachmann of Minnesota.  Hoffman has been endorsed by the newspaper Alexander Hamilton founded, the New York Post, the Club for Growth, and former Reagan administration official Gary Bauer.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As now everybody in sports knows, the Saints came from behind to beat the Dolphins 46-34 yesterday. </p>
<p>I was so discouraged listening to the game on radio when I heard the 24-3 score.  I figured I did not have the patience to endure a terrible defeat!  So much for the undefeated season&#8230;</p>
<p>But I saw the score when they were only ten points behind and then when it was 34-31 with about eight minutes to go I knew they could come back.  I got to see the end of the game &#8211; it was fantastic. </p>
<p>We are looking forward to Monday night &#8211; Saints against the Falcons!

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I am watching Sean Hannity&#8217;s TV show on Fox News (oooh, I&#8217;m watching an unapproved news agency!) and Governor Jindal is scheduled.  Let&#8217;s hear what the Governor says.</p>
<p>Governor Jindal came on after the Great American Panel about 9:45PM EDT.  A few notes:</p>
<p>Bobby Jindal is in NYC after campaigning for Chris Christie in NJ!  (He has already TWICE campaigned for Bob McDonnell!)  Jindal suggests that there is a mirror to 1993 &#8211; VA and NJ went for the GOP and this led to taking over the House in &#8216;94.</p>
<p>&#8220;We can&#8217;t just print the money&#8221; Jindal says.  Cong. Ron Paul could not have said it better!  Jindal says the GOP has great candidates and in 1994 some of those candidates came about after the 1993 elections.  Hannity asked about if the Republicans have repented of their big spending ways.  Jindal suggests they have.  I am not sure I am persuaded.  Jindal asserts that the highest tax rates in some states will be higher than France if Obamacare passes! </p>
<p>The governor thanked President Obama for keeping his word and coming to New Orleans.  Hannity immediately  asked Governor Jindal about Louisiana.  The governor quickly cited several statistics in a row about the Pelican State that I could not keep up with.  (A recent blog <a href="http://jindal2012blog.com/more-accomplishments-for-gov-jindal-and-louisiana/">entry</a> spoke to that!)  Ethics reform, best government in the South, etc.  The Wonk is in the house!</p>
<p>This is an excellent presentation!  Much better than a certain speech made earlier this year.  My only criticism is Governor Jindal talks fast and is hard to live blog!  But the meat of his message is clear even if he speaks fast. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Standard and Poor&#8217;s is a credit rating <a href="http://www2.standardandpoors.com/portal/site/sp/en/us/page.siteselection/site_selection/0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0.html">agency</a>.  They have recently <a href="http://www.2theadvocate.com/news/63908172.html">upgraded</a> the bond rating for the State of Louisiana twice in two days.  This will make it possible for the state to borrow money at cheaper rates of interest.  The Advocate quoted a state official as saying this is a &#8220;huge&#8221; development.  Standard and Poor&#8217;s is quoted as saying that Louisiana is doing &#8220;&#8217;significantly better than most other large states in the country.&#8217;&#8221;  The agency also cited (I quote the Advocate article) the &#8220;strong management&#8221; and &#8220;&#8216;commitment to streamlining its government functions.&#8217;&#8221;</p>
<p>The Advocate reports that other agencies such as Moody&#8217;s and Fitch&#8217;s have raised their ratings for the Pelican State.  The State Treasurer, John Kennedy, was quoted that this will save $2,700,000 in interest for twenty years.  Kennedy also told the Advocate that Louisiana is in better financial condition than other states in a bad economy.</p>

<p>I would add this:  Moody&#8217;s has <a href="http://">warned</a> the Federal Government that the deficit must be cut or the United States might lose its Aaa credit rating.  This should warn all of us and the Obama adminstration that we must abandon health care reform and other new projects and programs other than what is absolutely necessary.  We must also consider what Cong. Ron Paul says and find ways to cut back our foreign troop involvements as well.  The GOP must rally behind the slogan, &#8220;No new programs until we cut the deficit!&#8221; </p>
<p>Perhaps it will take a President that has improved his state&#8217;s credit rating and brought necessary reforms to step up to leadership.  Someone like Governor Bobby Jindal.

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>My congressman, Eric Cantor, is giving out all sorts of money to GOP candidates for Congress.  His <a href="http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0607/4618.html">PAC</a>(I could not find a website for it) raised (remember:  &#8220;Fundraise&#8221; is NOT a verb!) at least the $562,000 he has given out.  Five examples <a href="http://blogs.cqpolitics.com/eyeon2010/2009/10/cantor-confers-cash-to-challen.html">cited</a> by CQ Politics are:</p>
<blockquote><p>They are Andy Harris of Maryland, a state senator challenging Rep. Frank Kratovil Jr. in a rematch of their close 2008 race in the 1st District; Martha Roby of Alabama, a Montgomery city councilwoman who is taking on Rep. Bobby Bright in the 2nd District; Steve Pearce of New Mexico, a former House member who lost a Senate race in 2008 and is seeking to reclaim his old 2nd District seat, now held by Rep. Harry Teague; Steve Stivers of Ohio, who is waging a rematch campaign against Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy in the Columbus-area 15th District; and Van Tran of California, an assemblyman who is taking on Rep. Loretta Sanchez in the 47th District.</p></blockquote>
<p>It COULD mean he has 2012 on his mind.  But it could more likely be preparation for a future leadership advance.  Congressman Roy Blunt, his &#8220;boss&#8221; in the leadership, is <a href="http://www.royblunt.com/">running</a> for US Senate.   That means Cong. Cantor is a decent chance for the (hopefully) Majority Whip position and maybe even <a href="http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2009/08/26/2011/index.html">higher</a> (Don&#8217;t count on it happening like Salon suggests!).  Also the ERIC PAC has been <a href="http://www.opensecrets.org/pacs/lookup2.php?strID=C00384701">around</a> since at least 2004.</p>
<p>Moreover, there is a huge obstacle in Cong. Cantor&#8217;s way to running for President and Congress at the same time (this also applies to VP, too!):  Va. Code 24.2-504 (emphasis added)</p>
<blockquote><p>Only a person fulfilling all the requirements of a candidate shall have his name printed on the ballot for the election. <em>No person shall have his name printed on the ballot for more than one office at any one election.</em> However, a candidate for federal or statewide office, or a candidate for an office being filled in a special election, may have his name printed on the ballot for two offices at an election.</p></blockquote>
<p>This means that, unlike Cong. Paul, Congressman Cantor must decide between Congress and President.  My faithful readers will be the first to know after I do if there is any attempt to change this law.  With divided government in Richmond (The GOP controls the house and the Dems the state senate and we&#8217;ll know shortly who is governor), it seems unlikely.  It is a shame in that Cong. Cantor would make a great candidate for either President or VP.
