We’re looking for a first line support analyst with exceptional customer service skills and a keen interest in technology. You will be advising on issue with our products, including our ISP, and domain registry service.

You’ll spend your day speaking with a wide range of internal stakeholders and end users including: representatives at all levels from higher and further education organisations, skills, research councils, local authorities, government departments, and commercial organisations.

You’ll also work as a role model for less experienced members of the team; you’ll take the lead on difficult issues, offer guidance, answer questions the team may have, and assist with training.

About you

You’ll need experience working in an office based customer service role, ideally within a technical support role. You’ll need a basic knowledge of computing networking concepts and technology, and data networks. You will be taking on a key technical operational position to support the development and success of the digital technology and delivery team. You’ll be involved in a mixture of new development and ongoing maintenance for a variety of web applications.

You’ll initially be responsible for supporting the transfer of a mature high traffic web application into Jisc from an external organisation. Extensive experience of building medium/large-scale web applications with Django
Building large and high traffic web applications
Working in a development team to build and implement websites and applications, following deployment and build processes using code

Working with a version control system, ideally Git

About you

You are the right fit for the role if you are passionate and enthusiastic about data warehousing and business intelligence technologies. We believe that your self-motivation is the key to adapt and learn the technologies like Amazon Redshift, Pentaho and PostgresSQL.

In this role, you will be responsible for assisting with the management and maintenance of Knowledge Base Plus (KB+) data and system under the direction of the service manager.

Day-to-day procedures involve working with the other data managers, librarians, publishers, systems vendors and other project partners to manage the maintenance and expansion of KB+ to ensure that it is accurate, timely and as comprehensive as possible.

This will include:

Collating and verifying title list information from publishers and other sources to ensure that relevant fields in the KB+ data import format (based on the KBART recommendations) are complete and accurate
Identifying new e-resource packages and agreements to be included in KB+
Updating such publication data as changes, such as title transfers, cessation etc, occur
Updating and amending the KB+ system in response to information received or gathered from publishers, aggregators, subscription agents or other content suppliers and information sources to ensure that the relevant data in KB+ reflects current package and title list information
Working with academic institutions to include information on institutional entitlements and subscription holdings within KB+
Responding to queries about the data in KB+ from institutions, suppliers, publishers etc

Degree qualified or equivalent experience
Significant relevant professional library experience, preferably in an academic environment
Experience of online cataloguing and classification using AACR2, MARC21 and DDC

About the role

The lead penetration tester is responsible for leading and expanding development of the penetration and security assessment service delivered by the cybersecurity division.

Responsibilities will include:

Undertaking a leading role in the management and provision of penetration testing service to members and customers connected to the Janet network
Monitoring the quality of service and carrying out improvement or development
Providing appropriate briefings to a range of different management audiences, simplifying complex security data and provide guidance on suitable penetration testing and defensive methods
Developing and maintaining client relationships
Providing advice and support to other teams, customers and third-party suppliers on detected security threats and advising of best course of action
Maintaining awareness of changing security threats to enable enhancement of current tools for penetration testing and security assessment
The operation, support, development and enhancement of platforms for testing
Assisting in the preparation of statistical reports as required by management and customers
Assisting in the preparation and delivery of educational material, conferences and workshops on computer security

You will need to be able to participate in an agreed extended working period, currently 08:00-18:00 up to a total of 35 hours per week, and be available on call.

About you

In order to be successful in the role, you will need previous experience in a similar position as well as:

CHECK Team Leader qualification or the commitment to gain this within the next six months
OSCP/CCSAS/CCSAM
Clear and demonstrable understanding of penetration testing, including CESG accredited schemes such as CBEST, STAR, CPA, CHECK AND CTAS
Experience of operating a range of industry standard tools for penetration testing
Experience of dealing with post incident analysis, remediation and process improvement.
Experience of successfully managing and delivering projects on time and to budget
An understanding and practical application of information security principles
Proven experience of secure coding practices
Able to present to a wide range of audiences internally and externally adapting the messages and delivery appropriately
Excellent communication skills and the ability to present to a wide range of audiences internally and externally adapting the messages and delivery appropriately

Able to communicate effectively with a range of security professionals and simplify complex technical issues for senior management
Clear understanding of the law as it relates to computer security
Experience and understanding of the requirements of working within ISO9001 and ISO27001 environments

You’ll be responsible for supporting the transfer of a mature high traffic web application into Jisc from an external organisation. You will need to work with external stakeholders in order to support the transfer and learn the system in readiness for Jisc taking over full operation and support for the application.

About you

In order to be successful, you will need to demonstrate experience of:

Extensive experience of building medium/large-scale web applications with Django
Building large and high traffic web applications
Working in a development team to build and implement websites and applications, following deployment and build processes using code
Working with relational database engines, ideally PostgreSQL or MySQL
Working with NoSQL database engines, ideally Cassandra
Working with a version control system, ideally Git
Test-driven development and a commitment to TDD practices especially within small teams
Developing and deploying production websites and web applications

You’ll need knowledge of:

Python, Django, HTML 5, CSS, JQuery, JSON and REST
Relational database design concepts and usage, preferably working knowledge of information systems design and implementation
Coding, usability and accessibility standards (WCAG)

You’ll need to be able to demonstrate you have:

The ability to think beyond single tasks and take a framework orientated approach
Excellent organisational skills, with ability to work to deadlines and manage own time
Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen to and interpret requirements with technical and non-technical audiences
The ability to respond flexibly to the development needs of the organisation
Good technical documentation skills and ability to produce clear diagrams to document complex information systems and workflows
Good problem solving skills and ability to debug existing code
A positive attitude, be self-motivated and results orientated
