How to resize your Hard Disk Partitions...?? Increasing/Decreasing size of C drive without formatting.

You may often find that one of your hard disk partition is getting loaded with data while the other partition gets neglected. And to add to it, you want to store the data in the same fully loaded partition. But the situation becomes worse when your Primary drive (mostly C drive) gets full and you want more space to install new programs.

The primitive solution for this problem was to format the hard disk using a bootable CD and create and resize the partitions. The obvious demerit of this method is that you lose all the installed programs and data on the hard disk.

A little better solution is to make use of Windows Disk Management Utility to shrink and extend partitions. But this utility is very limited in its functionality and ability to resize partitions efficiently.

So, here I am offering one of the best solution to your problem of resizing the partitions without formatting. EASEUS PARTITION MASTER is the one of the most convenient software for disk partitioning and management. Its interface is basic and really kind of bland.

For a program that deals with something as unglamorous as partition management, however, this is probably something most users will be willing to forgive. How to Enable Auto-Purging in Gmail

You can’t enable auto-purging in Gmail for any particular label but there’s a simple Google Script that will bring this missing functionality to your Gmail. The script will basically monitor messages belonging to a particular folder /label in Gmail and purge those that have exceed the retention time.

Here’s how you can get auto-purge to work inside your Gmail:

Open Google Script and choose File -> Make a copy to copy it into your Google Drive.
Set the value of GMAIL_LABEL to the label that you wish to auto-purge and PURGE_AFTER are the number of days for which you to retain a message in Gmail.
Go to Run -> Initialize and grant the necessary permissions. This is your personal script and nobody else will ever have access to your data.
Go to Run -> Install to install the auto-purge script.

That’s it. Exit the Google Script and it will continuously monitor that particular Gmail label in the background. If you need to disable auto-purging later, just open the same script in your Google Drive and choose Run -> Uninstall.

Do you know when the absolute worst time to think about backups is? It’s the moment when the tech support guy tells you your hard drive has died and your data is lost.

One error that the free online backups will not help is recovery of a file a split second after you delete that important presentation or cherished photo. Most free services do not save deleted files but write over the old file. An online backup provides 24/7 access to your files from any Internet connected computer, smartphone, or tablet style device. Data storage in the cloud is one of the quickest means to data archiving and recovery.

The requirements to judge the online backup are listed below.

Storage Size: More free storage is obviously better. Our photo files are larger and we are taking more photos. This requires more storage.
Document Synchronization: Documents and files created or changed need to automatically be uploaded to the “Cloud.”
Long Term Reliability of the Site: Will your files be there available a year from now, five years from now? This is subjective. If I have heard of the service before I became editor of this category or one of our readers makes a compelling argument, the site will be considered reliable.
Security: It should be assumed that security is minimal for the free sites. If the files you upload will not be encrypted, there's nothing to stop someone from looking at your files. This includes law enforcement officials who can serve papers from a judge requesting copies of your files. The services I have checked do not have encryption on the fly. Spideroak has pre-egress or pre-internet security. Your files are encrypted before they are uploaded.
File Location: Ideally the files should be able to be located anyplace on your hard drive. Instead many online backup services require a special folder to be created. All your files will have to be stored in that folder. Also, the files will have to be stored on the local drive and copied to the online service.

So here I present some of the best online storage websites. I have sorted them as per their merits:

#1 IDrive (www.idrive.com)

IDrive's parent company IBackup has been in business since 1999 and therefore meets the long term reliability requirement. The service has 5 GB of free storage. While not a lot by today's standard it is better than 2 GB. IDrive does provide pre file transfer encryption. You provide the private key which will be known only to you. This will secure your files from being read by others without your permission.

IDrive has both scheduled and continuous backup. The default is scheduled backup. IDrive also has versioning. In this way if you accidentally delete a file, it can be retrieved.

Your files can be stored in any place on your hard drive. This allows you to keep your current file structure. It will not be necessary to move your file to a special folder for backup.

#2 Skydrive (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/skydrive/home)

Microsoft has changed Skydrive. It is now 7 GB if you are a new subscriber to the service. If you are an old subscriber and had 25 GB of storage you get to keep your 25 GB.

It has reduced storage space, no encryption and the annoying Skydrive folder you have to use. It is built into Windows 8 and the service is expected to be around for a long time as it's provided by Microsoft.

Skydrive's storage size is 7 GB. This is not very large by today standards. Skydrive originally was 25 GB. A new user can't get 25 GB free anymore. If you have an old Hotmail account you may have 25 GB.

Skydrive is easy to use. Once installed just move

your files you want to backup to the special Skydrive folder.

One of the Skydrive's negatives is no security. Do not put files on Skydrive that care and other people could see. It is not open to every one on the Internet but law enforcement could obtain copies of your files without your knowledge.

Another annoying negative is that it will sync only your files in the Skydrive folder. All the files you need to backup will need to be moved to the Skydrive folder.

A combination of back-up solutions may be the best strategy. Use Skydrive for your photos and non critical documents like kids homework, your non-financial files, and family pictures. Then use Spideroak or IDrive for your taxes and financial files.

#3 Spideroak (http://spideroak.com)

Spideroak has end-to-end encryption. If you have documents you do not want anyone else to have the ability to see them, this is the service for you. The files are encrypted before they are sent to the Spideroak server. Since you own the encryption key, only you can open them. The downside for this service is that it only offers 2 GB of online storage.

The files Spideroak saves to the cloud can be stored in any place on you computer. A separate folder does not need to be created.

If you need to securely backup more than 2 GB of files, a free service is not for you. If you have more than 2 GB of files you want to keep and make sure no one can read them without your permission then I would suggest a paid service. Also, it automatically synchronizes files.

#4 SugarSync (www.sugarsync.com)

SugarSync now offers 5 GB free. You could increase your storage amount by referring people and taking an online quiz.

SugarSync meets the long term reliability requirement as it has been in this online storage market for many years.

It will automatically synchronize your documents and has the security features below.

* There is no encryption key stored on your computer.* Files are transmitted encrypted (128 bit AES) via SSL using a once only key.* At the SugarSync end they are stored encrypted on one server and the keys stored on another.* The keys are random and not generated from email addresses.* Keys are accessible to some SugarSync employees, hence also files could be provided by SugarSync in response to a court order or search warrant.

What sets SugarSync apart from other on-line storage is that it is not necessary to put files into a special folder (e.g. Dropbox & Skydrive), backup being managed through an Explorer-like file manager. You just select folders to be synced using check boxes and exclude sub folders not to be synced. For those wanting a special folder like Dropbox, SugarSync also provides one called Magic Briefcase and there is a non-synced Web Archive.

#5 Dropbox (www.dropbox.com)

It offers 2GB free storage to start while multiple paid options are also available. Dropbox offers file syncing between the PC / Mac / Linux and the cloud. Load the desktop client or upload through the web interface and begin adding folders to the Dropbox folder. Once in the folder, Dropbox synchs the file between the PC and the cloud and any other devices that you have enabled with Dropbox including mobile and tablets. Quick, light and in the background, Dropbox is a must try and is my preferred Online Backup Solution. One drawback to Dropbox is a folder named "Dropbox" which has to be created, then all the folders and files have to be moved to the "Dropbox" folder.

#6 Mozy (http://mozy.com/home/free)

Like most of the online backup providers, Mozy offers 2 GB for free and the option to add more through paid services. Mozy comes with PC and MAC clients, schedule backups and even file encryption. The encryption capabilities provide some peace of mind to those looking for an Online Backup Solution but concerned about privacy.

#7 ADrive (http://www.adrive.com/)

This site has been tested for the past month. It meets one of three off-line backup requirements. The storage size is very large at 50 GB. The down side is that it does not sync files. Longevity of the free service needs to be proven.

Ok.. so after a very long time, today I planned to write something on a non-technical topic. With the start of 2013, I thought about writing something about Men and Women.

Why men and women are different..?? Why Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus..?? Why Men and women relationships are so complex..?? Do Men and Women have equal rights..?? Are Men more into technical stuff than Women..?? Why Men think Women are not-so-good behind the steering wheel..?? Why women think men are insensitive..?? N the list goes on...!!

As I get mature every year, I think a lot more about how males and females differ. Let’s take an every day example. A woman complains that her male partner does not listen. Women often complain that a male counterpart wants to provide advice when she talks about a problem. Women can feel unheard in this situation, as they would like their partners to remark on the content of their feelings. Sounds familiar?

Yes... men and women are different. They are from different planets. I am quoting these lines from the book 'Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus' (You can download the e-book for free. Click HERE):

Imagine that men are from Mars and women are from Venus. One day long ago the Martians, looking through their telescopes, discovered the Venusians. just glimpsing the Venusians awakened feelings they had never known. They fell in love and quickly invented space travel and flew to Venus. The Venusians welcomed the Martians with open arms. They had intuitively known that this day would come. Their hearts opened wide to a love they had never felt before. The love between the Venusians and Martians was magical. They delighted in being together, doing things together, and sharing together. Though from different worlds, they reveled in their differences. They spent months learning about each other, exploring and appreciating their different needs, preferences, and behavior patterns. For years they lived together in love and harmony. Then they decided to fly to Earth. In the beginning everything was wonderful and beautiful. But the effects of Earth's atmosphere took hold, and one morning everyone woke up with a peculiar kind of amnesiaselective amnesia! Both the Martians and Venusians forgot that they were from different planets and were supposed to be different. In one morning everything they had learned about their differences was erased from their memory. And since that day men and women have been in conflict.

We usually become angry or frustrated with the opposite sex because we have forgotten this important truth. We expect the opposite sex to be more like ourselves. We desire them to "want what we want" and "feel the way we feel." We mistakenly assume that if our partners love us they will react and behave in certain ways-the ways we react and behave when we love someone. This attitude sets us up to be disappointed again and prevents us from taking the necessary time to communicate lovingly about our differences. Men mistakenly expect women to think, communicate, and react the way men do; women mistakenly expect men to feel, communicate, and respond the way women do. We have forgotten that men and women are supposed to be different. As a result our relationships are filled with unnecessary friction and conflict. Clearly recognizing and respecting these differences dramatically reduce confusion when dealing with the opposite sex. When you remember that men are from Mars and women are from Venus, everything can be explained.

Talking openly about the biological differences between men and women can be complicated. Louann Brizendine, M.D. wrote a bestselling book in 2006 about the way male and female brains and bodies differ. Whatever readers or reviewers thought about the book, it has been translated into
30 languages and obviously speaks to something women are concerned about, which is talking about how men and women are different. Of course, socialization and the way we are raised plays an important role, but biology does seem to matter. This may not be news to young women and men, but for women in Brizendine’s generation, such talk can feel like heresy. Brizendine brings this up in the epilogue of her book:

“There are those who wish there were no differences between men and women. In the 1970’s at the University of California, Berkeley, the buzzword among young women was “mandatory unisex,” which meant that it was politically incorrect even to mention sex difference.”

Brizendine goes on to say, “The fear of discrimination based on difference runs deep, and for many years assumptions about sex differences went scientifically unexamined for fear that women wouldn’t be able to claim equality with men. But pretending that women and men are the same, while doing a disservice to both men and women, ultimately hurts women. Perpetuating the myth of the male norm means ignoring women’s real, biological differences in severity, susceptibility and treatment of disease. It also ignores the different ways that they process thoughts and therefore perceive what is important.”

Just because men and women have different ways of thinking about things, with men thinking more logically than women, does not make women inferior. It would be nice if men and women can both acknowledge the ways we are unique and take a stance that is more understanding. We all have different strengths.

Trying to understand how men and women communicate, without taking anything personally, can do a lot to help people in heterosexual relationships get along. And it just might be okay to talk about how men are different from women. In a more equal, understanding and diverse world, we can appreciate differences empathically, not judgmentally. Talking about gender and sex differences might positively influence communication among men and women.

How to make a bootable Pendrive for Windows XP/Vista/7/8

Using CD for formatting is an old school approach. Besides that your 'XP ka CD' may get corrupted due to scratches and other physical damage. I find it comparatively easy to make a bootable PD for windows 7 and 8 than for Windows XP. But with the help of software almost anything can be made simpler.

So follow the steps given below for making a bootable pendrive for XP:

1. Download and install WinToFlash. Click HERE to download.

2. Run WinToFlash.exe

3. In the Wizard mode, click on the tick mark

4. Click on Next. In the Wizard dialogue box, specify the Windows file path and the USB drive path by clicking on 'Select'.

(Note: If you have the setup files of Windows in a folder then give the path of that folder. But if you have the disc image, then you have to first mount it on your virtual drive and then give the path of the virtual drive.)

5. Before clicking on Next, make sure that you backup your Pendrive contents and

then format it. Now, click on Next.

6. Accept the terms of license agreement and click on Continue.

7. Wait till your pendrive is being loaded with bootable files. Once the progress bar reaches to 100%, click on finish.

8. Now, whenever you want to format and/or install the new Windows OS, just plug in your pendrive and restart. Press F12 key during boot initiation and select Jetflash option.

9. Your formatting procedures will start soon after Step 8. Follow the usual procedures and do not remove the pendrive untill all the installing procedure is done.

Microsoft Office 2013 (or Office 2015)

Microsoft is expected to release a new version of Office, called Microsoft Office 2013 (or Office 15) early next year. The new Office, the release version of which is already available for download to MSDN and TechNet subscribers, sports a minimalist interface and, among other features, is very tightly integrated with SkyDrive.

If you aren’t an MSDN/Technet subscriber, you can still download and install Microsoft Office 2013 as long as your computer is running Windows 7 or Windows 8.

Where can I download Microsoft Office 2013

Option A: You can go to office.com/preview and download the full-featured edition of Office 2013 that includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher, and Microsoft Access (no Visio here). You can install this

version on up to 5 PCs using your Microsoft account.

This is actually Microsoft Office 365 Home Premium Preview and what’s unique here is that you can get Office running on your computer within minutes of hitting the install button. This uses Microsoft’s Click-To-Run installation technology – you just have to download a 500KB installer and it “streams” the Microsoft Office applications to your computer.

The downside is that you have to install the entire Office package and second, this isn’t the final release of Office but a “preview” edition (version 15.0.4128.1025).

Option B: The other option is that you download the Microsoft Office 2013 installer from the Technet website (all you need is a Windows Live ID). Unlike the preview edition of Office, this one is the “final” Office Professional Plus 2013 release (version 15.0.4433.1506) that will continue to work for 60 days from the date of installation.

In order to install this version of Office, you’ll be required to download the full MSI installer (666 MB, OfficeProfessionalPlus_x86_en-us.img) but the advantage is that you can choose which Office programs should be installed on the computer.

Which Microsoft Office 2013 edition should I download?

Microsoft Office 2013 Pro is available as a 60-day trial while there’s no exact expiry date fixed for Office 365 Preview. Microsoft says that Office Preview will expire approximately 60 days after Office 2013 becomes available in that market. You will thus have more time to play with Office 2013 with the preview release.

Office 365 Preview can be installed alongside an older copy of Microsoft Office whereas in the case of Office 2013 Professional, it will override your existing installation.

One more thing. The Office 2013 preview release streams very quickly (click to run) and you don’t even have to be an administrator of your computer to install it. That’s not the case with Office 2013 Pro.

Microsoft hasn’t specified an exact release date for Microsoft Office 2013 but if you buy a licence of Microsoft Office 2010 now, you will get a free upgrade to Office 2013.

Google finally released a mapping application for the iPhone that is not only better than the Apple maps application — because it uses Google’s data — it’s about on par with the mapping application for Android smartphones.

Here’s what you’ll get with the Google Maps app:

First and foremost, access to Google’s maps data. This is about as good as it gets — the directions are typically more accurate than Apple’s maps application.

Most of the features in Google’s Android maps application. You can zoom in to an isometric quasi-street view mode, get turn-by-turn directions while driving and get a quick birds-eye view of public transportation systems.

Most importantly, it’s at least as good as the last Google Maps application. Apple’s new maps application caused such an uproar that Apple CEO Tim Cook had to come out and publicly apologize for the app.

Do you know that VLC Media Player, the world’s favorite video player that supports nearly every video format, can also play YouTube videos on your desktop without requiring the web browser or the Adobe Flash player.

To get started, open the VLC player, press Ctrl+N to open the Network URL dialog and paste any YouTube video URL in the input box.

VLC, by default, only supports single YouTube URLs but it also possible to import an entire YouTube Playlist into VLC and watch all the videos in sequence.

You can watch an entire playlist of YouTube videos inside VLC Media Player.

Here’s the trick. Right-click and save this file to your desktop. Now open the VLC installation folder (%ProgramFiles%\VideoLAN\VLC) and move the .lua file into the exiting /lua/playlist folder.

Restart the VLC Media Player and
choose Media -> Open Network Stream. Now paste the URL of any public YouTube Playlist here and the enjoy the videos.

The System Requirements for Windows 8

According to this Windows 8 FAQ, any machine equipped with 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of hard disk space and 1 GHz processor should be able to handle Windows 8. The minimum RAM requirements are 2 GB in case you would like to install the 64-bit version of Windows 8.

Should you download Windows 8 Setup or the ISO Image?

As you may have noticed on the Windows 8 download page, the installation of Windows 8 can be done in two ways.

You can either take the easiest route and download the Windows 8 Setup program – that’s also the default option.
Alternatively, you can download ISO Images of Windows 8.

If you are planning to install Windows 8 on your existing computer, either on a different partition (dual-boot) or just want to upgrade from an older version of Windows to Windows 8, the default Setup program is a good choice.

Please note that that your installed software programs will only be preserved if you are upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8. If your planning to install Windows 8 on top of Windows XP or Vista, only the files will be preserved but not the various software programs that you may have on the disk.

The Windows 8 ISO image may be more handy in other situations like:

Your computer has an x64 processor but is currently running the 32-bit version of Windows. If you want to install the 64-bit version of Windows 8, download the 64-bit ISO.
You want to install Windows 8 on your Mac (iMac or Macbook) using Boot Camp software.
You want to install Windows 8 on multiple computers. In that case, you can download the ISO once, create a bootable DVD and boot the other systems using this newly created Windows 8 disk.
You plan to run Windows 8 as a Virtual Machine inside your existing copy of Windows.

How should I go about installing Windows 8?

You can have Windows 8 on your computer in three ways – you can install Windows 8 side-by-side (also known as dual-boot), as a virtual machine (so that it runs inside your existing Windows just like any other software) or you can have Windows 8 as your primary OS (there’s no going back from here).

If you just want to try out Windows 8 but without modifying any of your existing set-up, the safest bet is to use a Virtual Machine. If you have a vacant disk partition or don’t mind creating one (it’s easy), go for the dual-boot option. Else, if you have a spare computer, you can consider upgrading to Windows 8 overwriting the previous installation of Windows.

How to Add QR Codes to your Printed Webpages

When you print any web page, your web browser will automatically add the URL of the site in either the footer or the header area of all the printed pages. This is useful because you will always remember the source website where you printed those pages from.

The problem is that web page URLs can be long and complex and people are likely to make errors typing them into the browser.

An alternative would be that you create a short URL (using bit.ly or goo.gl) and append it all your printed pages. The other more convenient option is that you add a QR code to the printed copy that will link the printed page to the source web page with a quick scan.

This is a customised search for articles, theses, books, court opinions and other documents.

How to Register on NextStep -- TCS Campus Portal

This post is specifically for B.E. undergrads (Computer branch specific) of Mumbai University, wishing to apply for TCS Campus placement.
Follow these steps:
1. You may be facing accessing the NextStep website, specially Chrome users. So, better go to the address bar of your browser and type: https://nextstep.tcs.com
Chrome may display a security check page. Just click on 'proceed anyway' tab.
2. On the homepage, click on '2012 & above' tab.
3. Click on 'New Candidate' tab and then on 'Campus Applicants' tab.
4. Select your institute. You can type the name of your institute to filter among the options. Once you find your Institute's name, select it and click on 'Submit'.
5. Click on 'Technical Under Graduate'.
6. Select 1st two options in the Area of Interest field.
7. Enter all your personal details like Name, DOB, Gender, etc.
8. Under 'Academic details' section, Click on 'Graduate' tab. A new window will
appear. In that, select 'Bachelor of Engineering' for course name and major subject as 'Computer Engineering'.
9. For duration, the format is dd/mm/yyyy. So pls. enter proper day, month and year. If you don't remember the exact day, then enter any arbitary day of that month (It really doesn't matter). For end date, enter the month as June and Year as 2013.
10. Under Marks obtained, enter the total marks obtained till Sem6. And total marks is 5000. Aggregate percentage will be automatically calculated.
11.Course type: Full time. Click on Save and proceed.

12. Enter course name as 'HSC' under 11th and 12th fields. (If you are from any board other than Maharashtra, then enter the course name accordingly).
13. For the duration part, apply same logic as you have done for filling Graduate section.
14. Enter your institute name in the University/Institute column and major subjects as 'Physics Chemistry Maths'

For Diploma students,
12. Enter course name (i don't know your course name).

15. Proceed further and fill all the other details appropriately.
16. Click on 'I agree' and click on submit.
17. You'll get a mail on the id that you had specified which will contain your TCS id and password.
18. Login with those info and apply for TCS campus drive. (You'll notice a ''tab on your left).
19. Now proceed to complete your application form. Click on Application form.
20. Enter all personal details and other details.
21. Upload your CV and recent passport size photo (formal attire with white or off-white background). Size of both the files should be within 500 KB each.
22. Accept the declaration and download the completed form. Take its printout and carry it on 20th September along with your passport size photos and support documents (original).

Its the final year of your technical course that you are pursuing. And you are quite apprehensive about your campus placement rounds and job interviews. Here are 6 basic tips that will help you in preparing for job interviews and ease your trouble a little bit.

The 6 steps are as follows:

1. Write an effective resume.

2. Prepare for Aptitude test.

3. Know your Employer.

4. Gear up for Group Discussion.

1. Write an effective resume:

Resume writing is a very important skill. It is the first view that an employer gets of you, the candidate. It has to be truthful & should present you as the best candidate to do the job. Some people send the same resume to apply for every job but this is not the best way to handle it. Every job is different so the skills that you showcase to different employers should also be different.

1.1. Resume format

If you do not have work experience, your resume must contain the following information in the order given below:

--> Name

--> Address, contact number & email ID

--> Objective

--> Education - Awards & Honours

--> Work experience (if any)

--> Extracurricular activities

--> Other accomplishments

--> Skills & aptitudes

--> Interests

1.2. For a good resume, do

--> Write only one or two pages - depending on your work experience.

--> Include any special recognition, accomplishments or projects you may have been involved with.

--> Write about yourself in a positive light.

--> Strive to be concise & target your information to that particular employer.

--> Write only short bulleted sentences & not whole paragraphs.

--> Keep it light & easy to read - leave adequate white space, set the font size to at least 10 points, highlight key points & make sure the text is well-aligned.

--> Check for spelling & grammar errors by having someone else read & review your resume before you send it off.

1.3. For a good resume, do not
--> Try to fit too much on the page (leave some blank space for relief).

--> List personal information such as marital status, religion, caste, height, weight, etc.

--> Include salary requirements (leave them out until the interview stage).

--> Make negative comments about previous employers.

--> Include any health information.

--> Include references (these can be provided upon request).

--> Include reasons for leaving a previous job (save your reasons for the interview).

2. Prepare for Aptitude test:

Aptitude is something that you cannot change in one day. You need to develop it gradually everyday. So invest some hours everyday for Aptitude improvement. When it comes to Aptitude test, R.S. Agarwal books comes foremost to your mind. But that is not the only book for aptitude. And why only books, when you have so many websites for aptitude test training. Refer indiabix, fibonicci and many more. (Please google it out).

Types of aptitude questions can be classified as:

2.1. Verbal Ability - Includes spelling, grammar, ability to understand analogies and follow detailed written instructions. These questions appear in most general aptitude tests because employers usually want to know how well you can communicate.

2.2. Numerical Ability -Includes basic arithmetic, number sequences and simple mathematics. Sometimes you will often be presented with charts and graphs that need to be interpreted. These questions appear in most general aptitude tests because employers usually want some indication of your ability to use numbers/statistics.

2.3. Logical Reasoning -Measures your ability to identify the underlying logic of a pattern and then determine the solution. Because logical reasoning ability is believed to be the best indicator of fluid intelligence and your ability to learn new things quickly, these questions appear in most general aptitude tests.

2.4. Programming Test - Measures your computer programming knowledge and Object Oriented Programming Concepts. One should have to be strong with the basics of at least C and C++ (you might get questions from pointers and trees).

3. Know your Employer:

Its always better to check out the website of your employer before you face them in interview. It gives you an upper hand than your counterparts. Read about the company's vision, insights, latest news/events. Also remember the names of top level employees. (If this is too much for you, then at least remember the names of the founders and co-founders of the company).

4. Gear up for Group Discussion:

Big IT employers such as Infosys, Cognizant, Wipro, etc often conduct Group Discussions & Personal Interviews before they hire new employees. The idea is to give people a certain topic & get them to discuss it together, thus helping them find out who has the most knowledge & the best interpersonal and soft skills.

Group Discussion (GD).
--> Is a formal discussion among participants on a given topic.

--> Generally involves 8 to 15 participants in a group.

--> The moderator of the group gives the group
a topic to discuss.

--> The participants are given time (around 5 minutes) to collect their thoughts about the given topic before the discussion begins.

--> The group is then asked to discuss the topic for 20 to 25 minutes.

--> The moderator withdraws to the background & silently watches the discussion once it starts.

--> The moderator takes notes about all the participants in terms of their contribution to the discussion, comprehension of the main idea, patience, assertion, accommodation & more.

In a GD, you must speak up

--> It is extremely important to create a favourable first impression.

--> If you start the discussion, make sure you have clear knowledge about the given topic. You need to be confident & self-assured about the facts, figures & information you are talking about.

--> Once the discussion has started (by you or by others), pay attention to what everyone is saying & take notes. Express yourself when you genuinely have something to add.

--> Allow everyone to speak. For example, if someone is trying to say something, make sure you do not interrupt their point. But this does not mean you remain silent or do not make your point.

--> If you are concluding the GD, make sure to summarize all the main points raised during the discussion.
Do not start any new topic. Also mention those points which you may not have agreed with, but which someone else has raised.

Do
--> Be as formally dressed as you would be for a job interview.

--> Be cool & confident while presenting your viewpoint.

--> Non-aggressive body language & eye contact are very important.

--> Address the person farthest from you. If he can hear you, everyone else can.

--> Use formal, plain & simple language.

--> Listen attentively as it is very important to encourage participation from all members.

--> Stick to the subject that is being discussed without going off on a tangent.

--> Take a stand on the subject - either ‘for’ or ‘against’.

--> You may change your stand during the GD - this indicates your flexibility & accommodation of other people’s viewpoints.

--> Focus on consistently making points that will enhance the quality of the discussion.

Do not

--> Address anybody by name in a GD. You may not even know everyone’s name. It is better to address the group as a whole.

--> Debate with one particular person for too long.

--> Get into personal arguments with the other participants.

--> Interrupt while another participant is speaking.

--> Allow one or two members to monopolize the discussion.

--> Use slang words like yeah or nope or Hinglish words such as yaar,theek hai or chalta hai.

--> Use swear words or be rude to anyone.

--> Keep repeating your point again & again.

--> Make controversial remarks relating to gender, political parties & religion.

Note: People who do well in Group Discussions have a lot of knowledge on a wide variety of topics. Reading various newspapers, magazines & books is the best way to develop such in-depth knowledge & confidence of handling various subjects. Also watch TV news regularly & keep abreast of current affairs by reading up on various topics on the Internet.

5. Ace that Personal Interview:

A job interview is the last & most important step in the process of landing a job. It is an opportunity for the candidate & the employer to meet & get to know each other better. It is your best chance to exchange information, convince the employer that you are the person for this job & make up your mind about whether you really wish to work in that company.

During the interview, the employer will judge you on

--> Attitude

--> Appearance

--> Personality

--> Confidence

--> Knowledge about yourself

--> Knowledge about the company

--> Suitability for the job

--> Basic ability to do the job

5.1. Before the interview

--> Visit the company’s website & research the company, product lines & competitors.

--> Prepare answers to the most common interview questions.

--> Focus & re-focus attention on your successes.

--> Do not feel low because of some failures.

--> Be prepared for unexpected questions; these are designed to see how you cope with the unexpected.

--> Assume all questions are asked for a good reason & answer accordingly.

--> If you ask questions, keep them brief. Remember that you are being interviewed & not the other way around.

--> Follow up politely if you don’t hear from them within the specified time period.

It's fairly easy to just mute it, but sometimes you need to act on a text or call that comes your way. DeskNotifier sends notifications from your Android device to your Windows computer. Here's how to use it:

Download the Windows app here and the Android app here and install them both.
The first time you run the Android app, you will be directed to turn it on in the Accessibility settings. It can't operate if you don't do this, but it's a painless operation.
The first time you run the Windows app, you'll need to take care of some bookkeeping, such as which language you prefer and whether to start the app at launch (recommended).
You will also need to enter the IP address of your Android device every time you launch; fortunately, the Android app lists it near the bottom of the main screen. (You can also just use a USB cable, but this isn't practical for everyone.)
Once the setup is all taken care of, you should start to get notifications pushed to your desktop. They don't take up much space and they don't linger long, but it's easy to clear them if they do get in your way.
One neat feature is that you can reply to texts or send new ones from your desktop. If a text pops up, just click the notification to reply. You can also right-click the DeskNotifier icon in the system tray and select New SMS to send a new text.
