Happy New Year!

This is the first time that I spent New Year with friends. Been spending it with my family for 25 years! It's about time that I experience New Year away. It was fun as our friend Dorothy is celebrating her birthday (January 1). So it's not just a New Year Noche Buena, but a birthday celebration as well.

Dorothy's house has a rooftop, where we setup the party, I was excited knowing we'll be on a rooftop as I would like to shoot some fireworks. This is my first time to shoot one. I am a bit excited and was glad that I was able to borrow a friend's tripod (mine died a month ago). Thanks AL! You're the best!

It was not easy hunting for a firework display when they just come out of nowhere. Shooting fireworks on New Years Eve needed a lot of focus, dedication and patience. Once you have a focus on a certain firework, another one pops up from behind. And they just pop and pop and pop which left me dumbfounded by the lights and sound and a bit frustrated as I need to adjust the tripod and set a few settings on the camera! PLUS everyone was shouting HAPPY NEW YEAR! It was one HELL of a PHOTO SHOOT for me.. Haha! FUN but frustrating indeed!

I hope you'll enjoy the pictures. It was one hell of a BANG for me as this celebration was a first of everything!

Love Birds in Dumaguete

Hi bloggies! Once again, we visited the City of gentle people - Dumaguete! But this time, we were with friends. We just toured around the City, restaurants, shops and places that are popularly visited by locals and tourists.

It's nice to take a stroll down the Rizal Boulevard at dawn or late afternoon. Or just merely watching people jog, street children laughing and playing around. Tricycles and motorcycles rule the City streets. What I love about it is if a person try to cross the street, a true blue Dumagueteño on a vehicle would stop and let you pass.

Amazin how small things impact your thinking and see everything else on a new perspective. I love seeing women on skirts and heels drive a motorcycle. While going to Bais City, I even saw an old lola, probably around 50-55 years of age drove by on a Honda XRM. Haysstt.. Wish ko lang I will be able to find courage to drive one.

Anyways, Janno and Eden are the love birds I was talking about. I heard they are planning for a wedding (EDEN, is this true?). So we got them to pose for us. ("Di bale na magarasan si Suzuki Thunder, basta okay si camera LOL") It was fun as the two love to pose for the camera.

Got invited to a despedida party last Month at Agus Hotel and Spa in Lapu-lapu City. Fun + the bar + picture picture. I specially love the pictures taken by Ron and some of my friends. I call it sexy ladies. Our first try at portrait photography.

The last 2 pictures were taken at Mantayupan Falls last August. It was fun but we need more practice. Ron is taking lessons for free from his photo club at work. We'll post more when we have other friends to pose for us..

Fliptop in the Philippines

I've always been amazed by the hip-hop rappers here in the Philippines. I've spent countless hours in youtube listening to their rapping. Fliptop is a rap battle league that puts two people in a battle/match to have them insult each other. Personally, I like Loonie and Anygma's Style.

FlipTop has English and Tagalog battles. They are not actually rapping freestyle, but they research their opponents first and and then pre-write their "balagtasan". What I liked about it is the spontaneity, the cleverness and the applied humor when they compete, it's very entertaining. They can pretty much say what they want, but after each competition, "walang personalan".

Balamban's Little Garden

Another weekend escapade for me and my hubby as we took route Tabuelan to Cebu via the Transcentral Highway. Riding on a motorcycle along the transcentral has always been a breathtaking view for me and I will never get over the cold air and fog surrounding the mountains.

I remember the 3rd time we passed through the said highway, it was around 7:00 PM, the light posts are far from each other while going up, that it feels so eerie. We were the only ones on the road. It was so dark, plus the fog made it harder for us. Although, we are a group, traveling on 8 motorcycles, it still feels eerie as me and Ronald headed the pack.

Anyways, we saw this beautiful garden, I fell in love with the flowers and the view. It is about 33-34 kilometers east of Balamban bound lane, it is about 45-50 min ride from JY Square, Lahug, Cebu. I felt enchanted by the colorful flowers and the mountainous view.

Here's a few scraps I have taken, I hope you like it.

Picture taking is free, you may go to view deck and buy snacks like softdrinks, sandwiches and junk foods. The care taker said that the owner is a filipina and is now living abroad.

Sans Rival

The first thing we did when we went to Dumaguete was checking out Robinson's Place. Four years ago (back when Ronald was working there), it was still in construction and we were looking forward to visiting the see the inside of that Mall. It's the biggest mall in Dumaguete.

We immediately looked for the Sans Rival Cakes and Pastries Restaurant. Dumaguete is known for it's tasty sans rival and silvanas cake.

Hmmm.. So many options to choose from. Sans Rivas has wide variety of home-cooked cakes, cookies, pastries and other baked goodies. We planned to buy a lot of it for pasalubong but then we decided not to. We are traveling by motorcycle under the sun.. Huhu.. Sorry guys..

There is another Sans Rival located near Dumaguete's Rizal Boulevard. It is at #3 San Jose Street.

Oslob to Siquijor

I remembered seeing a banner while we were on our way to Dumaguete about a new RORO from Oslob to Siquijor. Ronald and I got excited and started planning for our next trip. No specific date yet but will keep you posted.

I've been searching online for the Roro Trip and gotten no information for their schedule trips to Siquijor. I started looking for another destination close to Cebu when I found this site - Cebu Port Authority Site.

Super Shuttle Ferry 16 opened a new link from Oslob to Siquijor last January 30, 2011. This is really convenient since you don't have to pass by Dumaguete to go to Siquijor anymore. You will definitely save energy, time and money.

"The RoRo-passenger vessel departs Oslob twice a day at 9:30 A.M. and 5:30 A.M. to Larena, Siquijor and back to Oslob at 2:00 P.M. and 6:30 A.M. For inquiries, you may contact Asian Marine Transport Corporation through its operations manager, Mr. Romar Puyod at 0922-8802517, 032-2310639 and 032-3455581."

Wow! Now I'm excited for our next trip and for a new addition to my blog!

So, it's a date then!! We'll be there before this month ends. Downloaded the map online and we are now on the planning stage where we get to search online and look for destinations within Siquijor to visit. Watch out Siquijor!! Here we come!

Danao Coco Palms

   This is my 2nd visit to Danao Coco Palms. The 1st time was with my team mates for our team outing. It was fun! We spent quality bonding at the pool and the water park.

   This time, I went with Ronald and his family. His brother - Richard is from Tagaytay and this is his 2nd time to visit Cebu. The first time he was here, we only brought him to places within the City (Cebu City).

   Their entrance fee is Php 150.00 per adult, an additional Php 100.00 if you want to play at their water park. Corkage fee is Php 50.00 per adult.

I highly commend Coco Palms for their great customer service! Allyssa, (I'm not sure if the spelling is correct), their receptionist is very accommodating and answered all our questions with a smile from the time we checked in and till we checked out. She gave us a bit of a discount, bravo Allyssa!! Thanks a bunch!

Now I know that their pool is clean, they have a pool person that cleans it every day.

Road Trip To Dumaguete

Our first plan was to go to Durhan Beach Resort which is at the Northern part of Cebu, but then we decided to go to Mantayupan Falls as we haven't been there before. We left our house (Mandaue City) at around 11:30 AM. We stopped at a little carenderia to eat when we reached Carcar City.

While drinking coconut juice (buko), a van passed by with a tag that says to Santander. Ron and I then looked at each other and said, that Van is going to a port in Santander, going to Dumaguete. That's when we decided to go there.

My first trip to Dumaguete was 4 years ago when Ron was assigned as a Supervisor of a computer store in Dumaguete (Octagon). This would be my 4th visit. The first time I was there made me realize how simple their lifestyle is and the people there are so nice. That made me fall in love with the The City of Gentle People. That's also the reason why I kept on coming back.

We left Carcar at around 2:00PM and arrived at Santander at 4:30 PM. We then asked as to how much is the ride to Sibulan Port.

Since we are on a Motorcycle, they charged us with P 240.00 for 1 motorcycle and 2 heads, which is P193 + P47 (see receipts below).

The RORO ride is about an hour. Ceres bus from the Cebu South Terminal also rides on this boat to Dumaguete. We left Bato, Santander port around 5:00PM.

We arrived at Sibulan at 6:00 PM and went directly to Home Quest Lodging house located at Siliman Ave, Dumaguete City.

Here's their Room Rates. It's the cheapest lodge house we can find at the time. And some of our friends recommended it.

We showered and rested for an hour and a half, then went to Kabayoan Restaurant. Then we went straight to Robinsons Mall where we discovered that there is a Sans Rival Branch there. :) Four years ago, Robinsons was still in construction that's why we were excited to go and check the mall.

The next day we decided to go to Sibulan to look for beach resorts in the area. But on our way to the beach area, we found a post that says "to TWIN LAKES - scenic drive", so we decided to go there instead, since we were on a motorcycle, we didn't notice the 13.5 kms drive on the sign. Huhuhu, the scenic view was breathtaking but almost half of the way is dirt road and ravines. Good thing Ron has experience in dirt biking! But still, it was a bit of a challenge for me. :)

After an hour of driving, uphill.. Here we are at last!

This is the first lake, the second lake is behind the mountains. Since it's been raining for the past few days, the water level has gotten high, so there is no way to get to the other side to see the other twin.

Next destination is Casaroro Falls! It is located in Valencia, Negros Oriental. It is about 30 min ride from Dumaguete City.

Casaroro falls is hidden deep into a forested area of Valencia mountains. To get to the falls you need to go down hill through the 350 or so steps. My legs were already shaking when we reached the falls. Imagine how my legs felt after going up. Huhuhu! Although, seeing the falls was soooo worth it all!

Aguinid Falls

Aside from having one of the oldest church in Cebu, Samboan has a natural treasure hidden at the top. Aguinid Falls is located at Tangbo, Samboan, Cebu. It is somewhere at the southern most part of Cebu.

Aguinid Falls is composed of 5 cascades. The best view is the one on top. I didn't have the courage to go up and take a pic as you need to climb the hairy limestones to get there. But I'm sure you'll enjoy the pics. Some shots taken by Ron. Hope you like it. xoxo

Moonlight!

Me and Ronald had nothing to do one Sunday night. We went out and got ourselves jumping from one restaurant to another. Haha, it was fun! Our last destination was Gimik KTV in Panagdait, Mabolo. We sang and danced for almost 2 hours. By the time we went out of the KTV it was already 9:30 PM and saw a breathtaking view of the sky with the moon. It was kind of hiding behind the dark clouds and we decided to take shots and wait for it to come out.

Waahh! Amazing. Good thing I brought with me my Canon. BUT!! We did not bring the tripod.. hahays! Paraparaan na naman just to get the shots we want.

We stayed for about 30-45 minutes more till we got what we wanted out of the Moon. Amazing! I love our shots!

MOALBOAL @ 1-1-11. It was raining the whole time we were there. But the whole two days experience was still marvelously fun! Because of the cold, rainy and windy weather, I could never get over the big, medium and small waves hitting the shore line, while it's raining and while we were in the waters laughing our ass out as the waves came. Haha, I could also never get over Efer's smile while jumping up and down as the wave pass him.

This would be my 2nd review of the Moalboal, Basdaku Beach here is Cebu. This is still my most recommended beach line as the room rates are quite affordable and the sand bar is big enough for you to do sun bathing and play volleyball with the barkada. There are also small huts, sari-sari stores, videoke and carinderia which offers cheap accommodation.

As a photography hobbyist, I love taking pictures of the water with the sky and Negros on the other side. On the north side of the beach, you will see rocks on the shore that would enable you to capture it with fast shutter speed like the ones below (ang-ang ky wla man ko nka dala ug tripod):

Me and my friends went to SM for a little get together. Notepad is leaving for Australia.. Hay, I miss her already. We passed by SM City's Christmas Trees at the North Wing and that's when I realized that it's really Christmas. The time of the year when I get to receive my 13th month, year end bonus, free grocery and maybe 4-5K worth of Gift Certs!! Wooot wooott!..

The time of the year when friends and family get together and celebrate Christ's birthday together. I love putting up decorations on our Christmas tree and lights every where, cooking a few hours before the clock strikes 12:00AM and singing Christmas carols.

The Christmas Tress at the mall were so big, but what got my attention was the angles on the Christmas Trees and a few hanging around and above the trees. Thanks to my zoom lens! And thanks to google picasa!! :D

Night Shots

I invited Ronald to go to the New Mandaue-Lapu-Lapu Bridge Park (Lapu-Lapu side of the bridge) last Saturday night to take pictures of the old bridge. I like the LLP side better since there is a barangay outpost and it looks like they have really took care of the place. I have not been to the Mandaue side for, I think 5-6 years now.

We then went to South Reclamation Area Post where you can see the Crown Regency Hotel and half of the Reclamation. We were only able to get a few pictures since we already got there around 7:35 PM and at exactly 8:00 PM SRP police came by and said that we need to leave.

The hidden resort is approximately a 1 and a half-hour-ride from Cebu to San Fernando.. And should be 5-6 kilometers ride from the main road the resort. Nice place to hang-out with friends, cheap and the place is very accommodating. It is very close to nature, it is indeed a hidden paradise at the peak of a mountain. Cant' wait to go back and enjoy relaxing.

Some of the activities that you can do while your at the resort is trekking, zip line, fishing on the man made lagoon.. They also have videoke and billiards so definitely you will enjoy your stay.

Dakong Bato Beach and Leisure Resort

I just spent the weekend with my friends from ISD at this resort. So nice, very accommodating. The place is a very good location to relax and unwind. It is about 2 hours South of Cebu. It also has a scenic view of the ocean and the island of Bohol.

This is the 2nd time I've visited Dakong Bato. We came here to celebrates TL Ian's birthday. Although he claims that his birthday is next month, but it was fun fun fun for all of us.

I was not able to bring my camera (Looser!) since I left my charger back from my last trip at Don Carlos, Bukidnon - Arvinoid's home. His mom sent it via LBC and it is suppose to arrive last Saturday but we don't have time, we need to leave for the trip. Huhuhu.. I miss my camera so much that I borrowed Arvin's cam (without him knowing, heehaw!) and got a few shots to use for this post.

The pool's temperature is so warm since water flows from the Jacuzzi to the pool (this is the only reason I can think of as to why the water is lukewarm). Since the site at the time is not accessable, I talked to the caretaker and she gave me the following rates:

P 4,500 - good for 8 pax, can accommodate up to 15 pax

- 3 pax for 250 per each

- remaining 4 pax can stay for free

P 3,500 - good for 6 pax

I spent a few hours sitting here, just watching the scenic view..

Ooooh, I would love to visit this place again. I specifically love to sit on that bench as I feel so calm and at peace while sitting there. I could spend more than an hour just being lazy or while reading a book on that bench. So nice!

Loving All Of It..

  Having your own DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) Camera doesn't necessarily mean that you are a photographer I just love taking pictures of the sunrise, the horizon, the mountains, the ocean, the waterfalls, the flowers, greenery.. Actually I love taking pictures of anything worth remembering..
  I have been using DSLR for 8 months now and I am still learning. Using a DSLR is not like any normal point and shoot camera, there are settings that you have to get to know first before you start shooting. And before you could even start to get the hang of it, you start looking and dreaming for another kind of lens that you think that would be able to really get the shots you want. Uhuh! I've been to all that situation, I never seem to get enough out of it. The thing is, I really don't have a budget for it so I will have to make the most of what I have so far.
  Here are a some of the scraps I have taken while visiting places. Some may be under exposed or to too exposed, or out of focused. I honestly don't care, I am still an amateur. I like it just the way I see it. Enjoy!

Baguio's Botanical Garden

It was so relaxing while seeing the view of colorful flowers and nice greenery.The Garden is located just 1 kilometer from Session Road, along Leonard Wood Road between Teachers Camp and Wright Park.You can ride a cab to get there or ride a Jeepney for about P 8.00 from Harrison Rd across Burnham Park.
There are also native Igorots that you let you take pictures with them for P20.00 per picture/person.

Camiguin's White Island

Camiguin's C-Shaped White Island Sand Bar is our 2nd day's 3rd destination. It is also known as Medano Island and is located 1 km off shore. It is a 5 to 10 minute boat ride from Yumbing, Mambajao.

To get there you can rent boats for about P450.00 to P500.00 per boat for 5-7 pax.

It would be best to go there early in the morning and before sunset since there is no tress or any shade to hide from the sun.

Foreign tourists usually visit the palce to snorkel and dive.

Mantigue Island

Our last destination - on our 3rd / last day in Camiguin is Mantigue Island. It is a very small island. My cousin said that the Island is also known as Magsaysay Island and is about 2 hectares.

To reach this place you can rent a boat for P450.00 - 500.00 good for 6 pax or if you have kids with you, they will allow 6-7 pax. It is a 15-20 min boat ride from Brgy San Roque, Mahinog to the Island.

Visiting the island is a releaver for SRESS for me. Specially a getaway from the City. It's not like any other beach or white islands where a lot of people really go. It's worth the visit if you want to just sit back, relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.

My cousins told me that before, when they go to this Island, they don't have to pay anything, they can even stay over night and rent a cottage, but right now, there is already an entrance fee of P20.00 per head. And you can only stay for 4 hours, if you stay more than that, you will be charge for another fee per hour. And the island is only open until 5:00 PM. I am not sure though if you can stay overnight, but I don't think they will allow it.

Before, they can swim anywhere but now, you have to make sure that you are on the swimming area or else you have to pay the penalties. This is really a big change for the locals. Since it is now a bit expensive, some locals won't be able to visit the place anymore. Hope they will change the rules a bit.

All these changes happened when they made Mantigue Island as a fish sanctuary or marine reserve and a tourist destination. Some of the families living there were even asked to move out so that they can make the Island a tourist hot spot.

Camiguin's Katibawasan Falls

We visited the falls on our 2nd day in Camiguin. Once again, I asked my cousin if we can borrow her motorcycle (salamat at pumayag nman si ate.. hehe). Started the trip to Mambajao around 10:00AM and arrived to our first destination - KATIBAWASAN FALLS.

This falls is about 250 feet high. The entrance fee is P 15.00 per person for adult and P 6.00 for children. As usual, the water was so cold, considering that it is summer.

It is a nice place to hang out. I am a bit amazed as to how high this falls is. I had to exert a bit of an effort to shot the whole falls from directly below it. Haha.. Started shooting using my zoom lens (I don't have wide angle lens.. huhuhu) but couldn't get the whole falls. Changed it back to the 18-55 lens and finally got what I wanted (please scroll down below to see the pic).

Sto. Nino Cold Spring - Camiguin

First destination on day 1 -The Sto. Niño Cold Spring. It is about 4 km towards the northern-upper part of Catarman, Camiguin. Urgghh.. The water is too cold for me.. hahah!..

This is a nice family destination on a summer getaway.

The entrance fee is P40.00 per head.

Their cottage ranges from P50 to P100.

There are also small sari-sari stores in the area where you can buy food.

You can also stay over night if you want, they have very affordable rates.

Camiguin

Went to Camiguin last Friday and spent 4 days there. We took the Super Shuttle Ferry, departure time is at 8:00 PM every Friday night from Pier 8 (back of Jollibee North Reclamation Area) and arrives in Balbagon, Mambajao at 7:00 AM.

I used zoom lens, that's why I wasn't able to get a picture of the whole Island..

Mactan Shrine

Went to Punta Engaño and visited Mactan Shrine yesterday afternoon (May 17, 2010).
This is the place where Magellan died last 1521 - The battle of Mactan, which is reenacted every year in the "kadaugan sa Mactan Festival". I am not sure what time the Shrine opens in the morning but they close at 9:00PM.
