There is a London campaign cycle going on right now. This campaign is to make HGV drivers more aware of bikes on the road. Hackney is the first company to offer proper training for HGV drivers in regards to cycle awareness. Hackney Council’s Road Safety Team is running an accredited programme to ensure that the training is certified and proper.

The training is done with a fleet of trucks and bus drivers where there is a driver in a big truck following cyclists. The cyclists are the drivers of the HGV vehicles undergoing training. They are around the larger vehicle to see what a cyclist may feel as they drive around. They go through the borough along the roads to see what may happen to a cyclist if a large truck comes up. There are practical elements as well as classroom sessions with a test in order to pass the training.

It is a good programme for those who have never considered what it might be like for the biker. The HGV training prices are reasonable to make certain that all drivers are willing to take it. In fact the course is free in Hackney. All one has to do is sign up and they will get the certificate upon completion.

HGV drivers have to go through a lot of different training in order to keep on the roads. CPC training is another training that is considered a must, but the training costs for these programmes are not cheap. This is one of the reasons that so many have been putting off the CPC training even though they have a completion date of 2014.

At least with the cyclist training there is no fee, which makes it even easier to take these courses for the drivers. There is an area of the cyclist training that has been overlooked by a great many people in the UK and that is the awareness of the cyclist. Cyclists need to be just as aware of the big vehicles they are riding around. They have to be aware that the driver has sight limitations that they cannot change. An HGV vehicle will have a trailer, which means they cannot see behind them 100%. They have only the side view mirrors. A bike trying to beat a larger truck is probably not going to win and thus the cyclist has to be aware too.

Today’s motor homes or recreational vehicles have all the comforts of home. If your wallet can afford it, they come with plasma TV’s, washers and dryers, ceramic tile floors and granite countertops and with spaces that are professionally designed.

The best known type of motor home is the Type A, or recreational vehicle. This is the roomiest of all motor homes, the largest, and the most expensive. They come fully equipped with all the luxurious amenities as listed above, plus some. Some recreational vehicles come with custom stained glass and large garden/tub showers. Recreational Vehicles come up to 45 feet in length and generally range between $85,000 used and $400,000 new. Don’t forget, they get somewhere between 5 and 8 miles per gallon. This is another consideration. If you can’t swallow that type of gas mileage you may want to consider another form of motor home.

A Type B motor home category includes van campers and travel trailers. The van campers generally range from 18 feet to 22 feet in length and can comfortable sleep four. A fully contained van camper can have a shower, toilet, kitchen, TV, couches and beds. The beds are close together, affording less privacy than a travel trailer or recreational vehicle. Most only have enough head room to allow for full standing in the center of the vehicle. Much smaller than the Type A motor homes they have less storage area. The van campers range in price between $43,000 and $70,000.

Travel trailers come in sizes 16 feet to 38 feet. They range in price from $6,000. for a used trailer upwards to $45,000 for a new travel trailer. You can generally find a fairly wide range of amenities in travel trailers. The larger the size the more you can sleep and the more likely you will be to have a private bedroom area.

A lot of travelers like the fact that they can park their travel trailer in a trailer park and take their vehicle touring the area. It does however take lots of practice learning how to properly drive with a travel trailer hitched to the back of your SUV.

When you are considering the purchase of a new motor home there are some of the same considerations you have when purchasing a new car. Remember, a dealer can take advantage of an uneducated customer. Do your homework. Know how much you should be paying before you visit the dealership. Ask to see the MSRP (manufacturers suggested retail price) for the vehicle. Remember, dealers receive nice incentives from manufacturers so they have a 15% to 35% mark-up.

Don’t take the first deal that you are offered. Visit two or three dealerships. Make sure that the dealership you buy your motor home from has good follow up service. A lot of dealers are your best friends while you’re buying the motor home. Once they’ve sold you the motor home they don’t want to be bothered. Check with the Better Business Bureau and family and friends who have motor homes.

Are you looking for a fun hobby that you can enjoy in your spare time? If you are, you will find that you have an unlimited number of options. There are a large number of items that can be considered collectables. With that said, one item that you will want to consider collecting is that of NASCAR collectables.

As nice as it is to hear that you can start a hobby collecting NASCAR merchandise and memorabilia, you may be looking for information on why you should. For starters, it is a fun hobby to enjoy. This is particularly true for those who are fans of the sport. NASCAR fans are more likely to enjoy the time spent researching and shopping for collectable pieces as opposed to those who are not fans. As a reminder, a hobby is supposed to be a fun and enjoyable activity.

Becoming a NASCAR collector is not only a great hobby, but it can also be profitable. Depending on what you collect or how much you are willing to invest in doing so, becoming a NASCAR collector can turn profitable for you. Generally speaking, older, rare, limited edition, or hard to find NASCAR memorabilia and merchandise pieces are valuable.

Another one of the many reasons why you may want to become a NASCAR collector, especially if you are a fan of the sport, is because it is relatively easy to do so. NASCAR collectables are easy to find, as you have so many options. As a reminder, if you are only interested in collecting for a hobby, you can, literally, collect whatever you want, including hats, shirts, model cars, and so forth, no matter how valuable they are.

As nice as it is to hear that there are a number of reasons why you should consider staring your own NASCAR collection, you may be wondering how you can go about doing so. As previously stated, NASCAR collectors have a number of different buying options. A few of these options are outlined below for your convenience.

As touched on above, if you are looking to make a profit with NASCAR collectables, you may want to focus on limited edition, rare, or older collectables. For that reason, you will want to checkout used merchandise and memorabilia. Used items fall under two different categories, those that have been used or played with and those that are previously owned, but still technically new in the box. For used and potentially valuable NASCAR collectables, online auction websites, thrift stores, flea markets, and yard sales should be examined.

Specialty sports stores or those that have a focus on racing are another great way to go about finding items to add to a NASCAR collection. Many collectors will find the best success doing business with an online retailer, but local stores are also common in areas where racing is a popularity pastime and they are often found near NASCAR racetracks. You can use the internet to help you find local sports dealers and specialty stores by performing a standard internet search or by examining online business directories. Your local phone book can also be used.

As for shopping for NASCAR collectables online, if you know what you are looking for, like a limited edition number 3 Dale Earnhardt model car or die cast car, you will want to perform a standard internet search with just that. This approach is likely to give you the best results in the shortest amount of time. If you are only interested browsing, your internet search should include phrases such as “NASCAR collectables,” or “NASCAR dealers.”

Of course, the decision as to whether or not you want to collect NASCAR merchandise and memorabilia is your decision to make. With that being said, it is a nice, safe, and fun activity for NASCAR fans to enjoy. In fact, even those who aren’t fans of the sport are enjoy this hobby, as they have the ability to turn a profit.

Do you feel the need for speed? Do you find underground racing a bit too dangerous for your taste? Do you think that playing the latest racing game on your PC is just too boring for you? If this is the case, then you need to get into RC car racing. RC car racing is one of the fastest growing hobbies today. This is because it appeals to the kid within people while challenging them to hone their skills. If you think that RC car is just about getting the most expensive model out there, you are on the wrong track. Here are the basics of RC cars:

THE TWO CLASSIFICATIONS

There are two general classifications of RC cars according to the power source:

1) Electric- This RC car type is the most common type in the market today. This might be because of the fact that most toy companies make this type of RC car for children or beginner RC car enthusiasts. Some advantages of the electric RC car are:
.
a) Noiseless- This means that an electric-powered RC car can be used without causing a lot of disturbance (excluding, of course, the number of people who will unwittingly trip over your machine). This also mean that you can use it stealthily. Countless movies have featured the use of electric RC cars in recording conversations or taking hidden videos. Make your spy dreams come true!

b) Smokeless- Since this type of RC car makes use of electricity to power it, there is no smoke output when the engine is running. This is because no combustion happens within the engine of the RC car.

Disadvantages:

a) Limited running time- An electric RC car runs on batteries. Because of this, the power it can use to run is limited to the capacity of the battery. A user who goes for this type of RC car has to cope with the delay of charging batteries or replacing them every time that they run out of power.

b) Limited power- The power of electric RC cars is limited not only in terms of time, but also in terms of intensity. Put plainly, electric-powered RC cars just don’t run as fast as gas powered models. If you are looking for speed, this is not the RC car for you.

2) Gas powered- There’s one thing that needs to be said about gas powered RC cars: you cannot put gasoline in it. Gas powered RC cars make use of a special mixture of fuel in order to run.

Advantages:
a) Speed- Many people are opting for gas powered RC cars mainly because of the fact that they are much faster than electric RC cars.

b) Longevity- Gas powered RC cars can run for long times before they need to be refueled. This means that you get to use your RC car for a longer time. Thus, you get to have more fun.

Disadvantages:

a) Smoke- Since gas powered RC cars run because of combustion; it is natural that there would be smoke coming out of the car. This means that you won’t be able to use your RC car indoors.

b) Noise- Gas powered RC cars make a lot of noise. This can either be a positive or a negative, depending on your attitude. For some people, the noise that this type of RC car can help them get attention from other people (Hey, some people do buy RC cars to get noticed).

It is a fact that people simply loves hybrid cars. They love hybrid cars because of the benefits it can give them, t6o the other people and the environment. So, what is it about hybrid cars that it is now attracting more and more people to get one for their own?

First of all, if you have a hybrid car, you will be able to cut fuel consumption in half. When was the last time you pulled your car over to a pumping station? If you recently did, you will notice that the price of gasoline is on a constant rise. When compared to conventional cars, hybrid cars will enable you to cut fuel consumption in half. This means fewer trips to the gasoline station. Just imagine yourself driving a car that can travel more than 60 miles per gallon. This may sound good enough for you to get a hybrid car, but there are more benefits that you can get from hybrid cars.

Back in 2010, President George Bush has signed an agreement that lets the buyers and users of hybrid car enjoy huge tax breaks. Because of this, you will be able to save money on taxes. Another great benefit that you can get when you have a hybrid cars are free parking, and some states have imposed a law that hybrid cars should be discounted on toll gates.

Hybrid cars are also known to emit far lower levels of pollutants in the air. This means less air pollution. This will also mean that it will tend to reduce the effects of global warming and will enable you and other people to breathe cleaner air.

These are just some of the things that hybrid cars can give you. You will now ask what kind of technology is inside hybrid cars that makes it so fuel efficient and environmentally friendly.

Hybrid cars are integrated with the hybrid technology currently existing today. In fact, hybrid technology has existed for a long time. It is used on locomotives, it is used on submarines and it is used in some buses in some states and countries.

Hybrid technology is a combination of electricity and the standard engine. For example, in locomotives, it combines the diesel engine and electric engine, and in submarines, it combines the nuclear engine and electric engine. This is far more efficient than letting the conventional engine run on its own.

In hybrid cars, it combines the energy of gasoline engines and an electric motor to power the car. This means that with both engines running, it will lessen the load on the internal combustion engine. The electric motor will share the labor. With this technology it will allow you to save precious fuel and also let you emit far lower volumes of toxic fumes in the air.

For example, if your hybrid car is running idle, it will automatically switch off the gasoline engine and let the car run on pure electricity. This can save you a lot of fuel especially if you are stuck in a gridlock traffic jam.

Today, there are hybrid cars that are designed to run even when the gasoline engine is switched off. This kind of hybrid car will eventually get rid of gasoline station trips. And, it will let you travel without emitting toxic fumes. The gasoline engine will only act as a backup engine when the battery pack runs out of power. The braking and the engine will automatically recharge the battery pack preparing it for another purely electric run. This means that you don’t actually have to plug in your hybrid car to your electrical outlet for it to recharge.

So, if you need a car that runs cleaner, quieter and far more fuel efficient, you should consider getting a hybrid car.

If you are looking for a used sports car there is a good chance you may have a brand or model in mind. A car that you have always aspired to own, but could never quite afford as new. Firmly in this category is Audi which offers a large range of used cars, with models like the TT coming in at reasonable prices.

The Audi TT Coupe went on sale in 1999 and prices can begin from as little as £3,000. The TT has an iconic and highly distinct body shape that has won it a legion of fans. The TT roadster can offer similar value at around the £3,000 mark. The TTs are highly available used cars from the Motors website.

At the top of the used sports car spectrum comes the Audi RS4. They went on sale in 2005 and may not come much cheaper than £20,000. The 4.2 litre V8 engine produces a wealth of power above and beyond the needs of most motorists.

The lines are blurred as to what a sports car is exactly these days with so many ultra high performance saloons like the 3Series BMWs. With this in mind the Audi A4 Avant went on sale in 2005 and is a realistic alternative to the BMW. It has a choice of 1.8 or 2 litre turbo charged engine so it seems surprising that prices could start from as little as £4,000. The high performance saloon is a very popular modern vehicle “ it fuses sports car performance with the practicality of a family car.

Audi is one of the worlds leading car manufacturers and all of its cars are precision made. Reliability and build quality are at the top of Audi’s agenda so they make for an excellent used sports car buy. Their understated, elegant designs indicate a consumer with both status and exemplary taste.

You’re probably hearing a lot about hybrid cars these days. They are definitely being discussed everywhere. Hardly a day goes by that a major newspaper or television network isn’t doing a feature story on hybrids. And everyday it seems like one car manufacturer or another is introducing a new hybrid vehicle.

So what’s all the buzz about?

Well, hybrids are a new type of vehicle that runs on electricity (from a battery) and gasoline. Now, that’s a novel idea isn’t it?

Hybrids are picking up steam (sounds like a pun doesn’t it?) everywhere, including the world’s most a car lovin’ city – Los Angeles – where many of the top stars are hybrid owners.

In the “City of the Angels” you’ll see environmentally forward thinking celebrities, like Bill Maher, Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and “Seinfeld” co-creator and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” creator and star, Larry David behind the wheel of their hybrids.

You might also see the lovely Cameron Diaz cruisin’ the Hollywood Hills in her hybrid. And when Leonardo Di Caprio really wants to feel like “the king of the world,” guess what he’ll be driving? You did guess a hybrid, didn’t you?

What do the stars know that you don’t?

Well they know that driving a hybrid makes a lot of sense (and may save some cents too! )

Want to know more about hybrids? Good. Now here are 7 reasons to buy a hybrid car.

1. The smaller hybrid compacts and sedans save considerable amounts of fuel compared to cars powered by gas turbine engines. If you’re interested in saving dollars on gas, this could be your solution.

2. The larger hybrid cars are not concerned with fuel efficiency. These cars are purchased because their owners want to boost power and performance. If you’re looking to get higher performance, consider a hybrid.

3. Hybrids can save you money in a multitude of ways. While the typical hybrid is about $3000 more than a typical car, this cost differential will narrow as auto manufacturers produce more hybrid cars in the future. The hybrid savings come in the form of state and federal incentives, reduced maintenance costs, and of course, lower fuel costs.

4. Your hybrid will even be financially advantageous to you when you decide it’s time to sell it. The resale value of hybrid cars is exceptional. Unlike most cars, hybrids hold their value at an astonishing level.

5. If you care about the planet and you’re concerned with the kind of environment you leave for future generations, driving a hybrid car is an important environmental statement. Hybrids generate less pollution than their standard counterparts.

6. Driving a hybrid saves gas. That’s a positive for our economy. The less we, as a society, spend on gas means we have more money to spend on other essentials and luxury products. We could even save the money we would have spent on gas and use it for our savings or investment plans.

7. Driving a hybrid could help America fight the war in Iraq. Here’s why. In addition to funding U.S. soldiers and the Iraqi efforts to create a democracy, many experts contend the U.S. is actually funding both sides of the Iraqi war. They believe Middle Eastern oil interests’ are using part of their profits to fund the insurgency. So, in effect, our excessive oil consumption makes it more difficult to bring peace to Iraq. Bottom line: the less we spend on gas and oil means less financial resources for our enemies overseas.

For all of these reasons, hybrid cars are “the next big thing in the automotive world.” So when it comes time for your next auto purchase, do yourself a favor and check out some hybrids cars. You might find that a hybrid is the perfect car for you.

The changes and history of Formula One racing are apparent when you look at the records that have been recorded since the sport’s inception.

For example, Mike Thackwell, 19, holds the record as the youngest Formula One racing driver. The 1980 Dutch Grand Prix was his first Formula One race. At the other end of the age record spectrum is Louis Chiron who entered the 1958 Monaco Grand Prix at 58 years old. A study of the oldest and youngest Formula One racing competitors shows that all of the oldest record holders entered races during the 1950s. Today the sport is so physically challenging that drivers begin Formula One racing at a younger age and retire by their mid-30s.

Another change in Formula One racing is apparent in the statistics surrounding the most wins in a season. The record holder for the most wins in a Formula One racing season is Michael Schumacher with 13 wins in the 2004 season. Schumacher also holds the most wins record for 2002, 2001, 2000, 1995 and 1994. His 1994 record was for winning eight of the 16 races he entered which gives him a winning percentage of 50%

In contrast, Alberto Ascari holds the Formula One racing record for the highest percentage of wins in a season. In the 1952 season Ascari won only six races. Those six wins, however, earn him a winning percentage of 75% for the Formula One racing events that he entered. Of the top ten record holders for highest percentage of wins in a Formula One racing season, seven of those drivers won six or less races in a season. All seven of those are for pre-1970 Formula One racing seasons.

The comparison of these statistics indicates a change in Formula One racing seasons. Early Formula One racing drivers entered fewer races than drivers today because fewer Grand Prix were part of the racing season.

Formula One racing has always relied on a point system for determining the title of World Champion at the end of a season. The point system has gone through changes over the years and that becomes most apparent in the statistics for the most championship points earned during a season. In the early years of Formula One racing points were awarded only to the top five finishers and the maximum point value was eight (with one bonus point awards for the fastest lap). By contrast, today’s point system allows for a maximum of ten points and points are awarded to the top eight teams.

The changes to the point systems, especially when combined with the increased number of Grand Prix per season are reflected in the statistics for the drivers with the most points accumulated during a season. In tenth place for this record is Nigel Mansell with 108 points earned during the 1992 season. The remaining top ten record holders have all been from Formula One racing seasons since 2000. Michael Schumacher currently holds first place in this category with 148 points earned during the 2004 season. The current point systems makes it impossible for early Formula One racing drivers to win a top spot in this category.

Changes are necessary in most sports as they evolve but Formula One racing has had many changes through the years. These changes are necessary to keep the sport competitive and the impact of the changes are shown in the records of Formula One racing.

As a kid I did a lot of boat building, mainly scale models that were not able to sail, although I did actual build a few boats that were, more or less, capable of sailing. I even once build a 10 feet boat, or shall I say raft. I accomplished this with a few friends and we had great fun sailing it on the local river. It was not really water proof and while one person was rowing, the others had to make sure that they removed the water quicker then it was entering our boat.

Then sadly one day we failed. I was rowing at the time, and we were in the middle of the river when it was clear we were sinking. I stopped rowing to assist with the hosing, but this only slowed down the process of sinking, it did not stop it. So I started to row again in on effort to reach dry land before we sank, thus avoiding having to swim to safety.

And guess what: We made it! Just before the boat really started to sink we managed to jump ashore. Here we watched as our pride and joy slowly sank to the bottom of the river. It was then that we realised we were at the wrong side of the river and this left us with a problem. We either had to walk to the nearest bridge, 10 kilometers upriver, so that would have been a 20 kilometer walk, or swim to the other side.

We decided on swimming. We did not see anyone around, so we quickly undressed, and with one hand holding our clothes above the water, we managed to get back to our own side of the river. Just as we were struggling to get out of the water a group of girls from our own school were passing by, and I can tell you we were not happy!

This all happened a long time ago and a few times in my live I have had plans of building a boat again. I have spent a good amount of time looking at boat building plans, but with boats size does matter.

I usually looked at boats between 30 and 40 feet, but the sheer volume of work involved has always stopped me from going ahead with my boat building plans.

Now I have decided to start small. I am going to build a 16 feet Grand Banks dory, which I want to fit with a small outboard engine. I boughtl the boat building plans, I got the working space, and by the time you read this article I might be finished already.

Later, who knows, I might build a 40 feet cabin cruiser, and tow my Grand Banks dory behind me. Then, if my cabin cruises sinks, I can always row to safety in my Grand Banks dory, dry and with my clothes on.
