European Ropes Course Association Conference 2018

The European Ropes Course Association (ERCA) is having its annual conference in January 2018 and this year its going to be in the UK. If you are associated with ropes courses in any way, its well worth attending with talks, presentations and discussions on a wide range of ropes course topics.

This year the theme of the conference is Humans on Ropes Courses as its the people who make the educational and leisure-oriented programmes successful.

Busy start to 2017 - JM Adventure

Its been a busy start to 2017 with loads of ropes courses built ready for the start of the new high ropes season.

In January we completed work on an exciting multi level course at Fun Farm Spalding, for more information, please go to www.funfarm.co.uk/funfarmspalding/information/51/fun-farm-high-ropes.

We then moved straight over to Haven Lakeland to build the first of two high ropes courses for Bourne Leisure this year.

This new style of course is designed for the younger range but will cater for all age groups. Platform heights are around three metres and offers a wide range of exciting elements.

Another interesting course was at Mill Rythe Holiday Village, this multi element linear developmental high ropes course will be used for team building. One complete, the course is designed to look like a sailing ship, complete with jib sail.

For people not so keen on height, we have also been busy on low ropes courses! With courses complete at RSPB Arne, Sunninghill Prep School and RAF Odiham.

JM Adventure Ltd have a number of opportunities for skilled technicians to fill fix term contracts for up to three months.

Key skills required:

Immediate start at significant advantage
Excellent communication skills
Positive and proactive personality who is able to work in small groups or individually
Experience with carpentry and wood working
Able to work at height
CSCS green card (guidance can be given on how to obtain this if required)
Clean driving licence

Ideally, the right candidate will have experience with building ropes courses or working within the outdoor education industry.

The role will require working away from home for five days a week (Monday to Friday with accommodation and subsistence covered by the company).

The job will be based from our head office in Swanage, Dorset but would require travel throughout the UK.

Initially, the contract will be on a two week probation period and will lead to a one month rolling contract (up to six months).

ERCA Safety Warning - Niko Rail

Happy new year...

We would like to draw your attention to the ERCA Safety Warning published on the 31st December 2014.

Niko rail - Safety warning notice from Niko regarding "Aerial Runway (person riding lines) Systems'".

We understand from the manufacture the track that has been identified as having an issue is essentually used as a zip line and consequently suffers significantly more wear with the weight of every participant on the track and moving at speed.

JM Adventure does not and has never used the track in this way so the risk on a JM Adventure course is reduced. However, it should be noted that Niko and JM Adventure Ltd recommend that a physical inspection be carried out as soon as possible and prior to operation of the course.

We are investigating the most appropriate effective method of thorough examination but at this stage we do not feel there is anything to be gained by removing sections of the track. Our first recommendation would be to feel inside the track along the two lower flanges for any obvious wear, grooves or pitting. Further investigation would be required if an abnormalities are found.

Ropes course construction 2014 Part one

Hi all,

As we approach the end of the year we thought it would be a good idea to take a look at some of the excellent projects we have completed this year. It turns out, we have done quite a few, so here are some of the highlights.

On the 6th January we started one of our biggest projects yet at Wildwood Adventure. The project has four aerial treks, access and activity tower, developmental elements, power fan and duel zip wires.

Its enormous with over forty eight elements and an extreme routing.

The tower has four levels with platforms up to 13metres in height.

All four courses use the Saferoller continuous belay system to its full extent.

The medium and high level courses share poles, high level course includes our hardest and longest extreme route so far. Elements included, foot stirrups, hanging loops and boulders.

In February we carried on at a pace and started not one but two Haven sites at Devon Cliffs and Hafan Y Mor. Another two standout courses for us, they feature multiple zip wires with Devon having our longest Saferoller zip wire so far.

The clients aim for the course at Devon cliffs was to take the participant back to nature and take them on a journey though the woods. We think it does that very well but don't take our word for it, have a look at Darren Mansell doing the course this summer http://youtu.be/yNX15QtsHHM.

Low ropes with J M Adventure

JM Adventure Low Ropes Courses

As we have shown in the first few blogs, JM Adventure can build you a great high ropes course, but did you know we can also design and build you an amazing low ropes course as well.

Design:

Depending on your requirements and location we can design you a course that uses trees, poles or a mix of both and you can have them as single isolated elements or all joined together. We can design you a course for team building, individual fun or something that covers all eventualities.

If you want further information, its always good to contact us and book a site visit, that way you can meet us and talk about your plans and location.

Construction:

Build times are dependant on what you require but normally it takes a couple of weeks to build a medium sized low ropes course. We will keep you informed over the course of the build and dependant on the size we manage any health and safety/CDM requirements.

Using the course:

Courses come in all shapes and sizes. We normally finish them with pea gravel ground cover, which we think you will agree finishes the course to perfection. As part of an all in one proposal we can also offer training provided by the European Ropes Course Association (ERCA) approved Vetex Training (www.vertex-training.co.uk). Vertex would normally recommend a two day course to give you the best possible introduction on how to make best use of the new equipment.

The newest JM Adventure project

Hi all,

At JM Adventure we pride ourselves in designing and constructing world class high ropes courses that not only provide the participants with a safe experience with plenty of excitement and wows, it also gives the operator a course that is well designed, built to the highest standard and provides a good return on their investment.

With this in mind, we wanted to show you a our newest course at the Haven Holiday Park at Presthaven Sands in Wales. The course was designed to fit the clients brief of having a fun and exciting aerial trek which is suitable for all ages and that fits in a relatively small space. Not only did we for fill this, we also designed an integrated a meet and greet/storage area that links into the access to the course for ease of operation.

A very busy New Year for JM Adventure

Its been a while since our last post, thats because we have been busy preparing ourselves for whats becoming a very busy spring and summer. We are going to be all over the country, from Welwyn Garden City to Pendle with many other courses currently going through planning.

If your planning on getting a course built in the near future our advise is to always plan ahead so that theres enough time to complete the design and planning phase and get construction proceeding before any hard deadlines such as the end of the financial year or the school holidays.
