Most people view obstacles as things to be avoided or evaded – what if, instead, we treated them as something to be engaged?

“Let’s say you are sitting at your desk, with something to write, and you notice some anxiety, and an urge to go instead to one of your favorite distractions……

So the anxiety, and the distraction, are your obstacle … but how do you “work with them” as I advised?

First, you don’t run from the obstacle. So instead of seeing the anxiety as something to be avoided (with distraction and procrastination), see it as the place you go to.”

Just when you thought you had heard of everything weird, this shows up.

Hopefully this practice doesn’t make it over to the States….

“…one student from the US Virgin Islands with an oculolinctus fetish has explained: “My boyfriend started licking my eyeballs years ago and I just loved it. I’m not with him any more but I still like to ask guys to lick my eyeballs … it turns me on.”

However, the dangers of oculolinctus are very real. As well as spreading pink-eye like nobody’s business, there’s also a risk of corneal scratching, which can lead to ulcers and blindness. Plus, there’s a strong chance that you’ll have to go to school the next day in an eye patch. At least with lovebites you could just throw on a poloneck jumper and be done with it”

Hey! It’s MS Office for iOS… and it’s free*

Bad news:
*1) Only works if you’ve shelled out $80 – $100 for the desktop version of Office 365
(“An Office 365 subscription is required to use this app.”)

2) “Microsoft Office Mobile is the official Office companion optimized for your iPhone.”
Isn’t iPad savvy – i.e. you could probably make it work, but the interface will either be letterboxed or blown up and grainy (probably letterboxed)

“We think this is one of the most revolutionary item we have ever made… a 3D printed bow tie that does not need tying!

just slot it in on the top button of your shirt and it is so lightweight that you won’t feel that you are wearing a bow tie!

there is no use for ribbon to tie around your neck,
o it is really comfortable!”

via Boing Boing, the story of Felicia, the Fermilab Ferret

“They tied a string to a ferret and got an atomic age pipe cleaner.

The ferret cost $35 and is 15 inches long. She helps clean the 300-foot pipes in the Meson Laboratory building now under construction at the $250 million National Accelerator Laboratory at Batavia.

They call the ferret Felicia and she has a big job. Several months from now all of the four miles of pipes will be welded together, ready for a beam of energy that will race around the four-mile course 70,000 times in 1.6 seconds.”

Not everyone on the block can claim to have one of these Sporks – it’s an open-source spork multi-tool from SparkFun Electronics, Inc.

“Introducing the Semi-Horned Oblong Versatile Eating Ladle, or as we like to call it, the S.H.O.V.E.L. This is not your run-of-the-mill spork (foon), ladies and gentlemen! It also has a serrated knife, a bottle cap opener, and six feet of red paracord to wrap around its sturdy titanium body.

Here’s the best part: it’s open-sourced. (No, we aren’t joking.)

I guess that’s ONE way to keep claims down – austerity by obscurity, you might say….

“If you want to claim Disability LIving Allowance or Attendance Allowance online you will need to take a step back to the 1990s and hunt through second hand shops for an old PC that you can power up. Don’t even think about using a smartphone or a Mac. The most recent Microsoft browser the system supports is Internet Explorer 6 which is so out of date that technology geeks have held parties to celebrate it no longer being used

One political blogger was so amazed at the situation he thought that this was an April fools joke.

Whilst the system is being revised for those aged 16-64 later this year for everyone else they will have to find one of the 2% of computers nationwide that still run on this out of date technology. This situation is unacceptable and must be tackled immediately.”

It’s all that and more… but if you want a quick and dirty plot summary, let’s check with our old buddies at Wikipedia.

From Wikipedia:
“After the fall of the Templar order on the Field of Avalon a great evil has risen in the land. After many seasons of tyranny by King Icarus a long ago prophecy appears to be in the process of fulfilling itself.

The young mouse, Karic, has been visited by the gods of the realm and could possibly be the return of the great Kuhl-En who originally established the Templar order and brought peace to the land.

Each arc in the series is a stepping stone to Karic’s growth as the main hero of the story and the challenges he faces along the way.”

Next link up on the Bryan J. L. Glass birthday link bash –
Quixote Novel.

Bryan and Mike Oeming team up again to bring Quixote into the 20th century, and it’s an absolutely compelling read!

But don’t take my word for it – here’s a snippet from one of the many raving Amazon reviews:

“‘Quixote’ is by far the best read I have ever laid eyes on. (NO JOKE!). Word of warning-make time to read this in one sitting. Between Oeming’s film noir art (which, in my mind at least reminded me of the old Zorro serials) and Glass’ manipulation of the English language/current social climate, its EXTREMELY hard to put down.

What makes the book perfet is that you do not need to know a single shred of the original Don Quixote in order to enjoy the book.

One of the best ‘supporting’ characters (Mackie) has quite a funny way of explaining it to the reader (and ironically looks a bit like ‘Kabuki’ creator David Mack). You will laugh, cry, and most importantly-reevaluate your opinions of society.”
