Filipinos in Dubai are educated, but...

Most of the Filipinos who come here in Dubai are educated but end up in a low paying jobs because of low expectations and lack of initiative to demonstrate the skills and capabilities in the workplace.

Last Saturday, June 5, a symposium called "The UAE economy and prospects for the Filipino entrepreneur," organised by the University of Philippines Alumni Association in the UAE at the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi. Grace Relucio Princesa , the Philippine Ambassador to the UAE. opened the symposium.

I say, it depends on different situation. Some are able to land on a high paying job because their boss are kind enough to give them a release and some companies have HR department to review the performance of the staff and recommend an increase.

In some companies, even though, you work hard and they see your potentials, they will not give you a proper credit. They will not give an increase saying that the company have no income, etc...and this is the current salary in the market.

On the other hand, some Filipinas accepted the low paying salary because they wanted to immediately have an employment visa and for them, they don't have a choice.

Is it your first time to spend summer here in Dubai? Summer season starts from May to September. During this period it is extremely hot and the temperature rises at above 40°C and really humid outside. Most of the people preferred to stay indoors except for some Westerners who wants to feel the sunny weather.

Are you on a Limited Contract?

How long is your contract with your present company? Are you on Limited or Unlimited Contract? You will know this by simply looking again in your labour contract. They mentioned there Limited or Unlimited...Limited Contract means that you need to complete the 3 years contract period. What will happen if you decided to terminate or discontinue your employment with your present company? In that case, it will be a violation of the law and you will be entitled to your leave dues only.

The average cost of Tourist Visa to UAE for 1 month period is AED 2,500 - AED 2,700. That includes your 1 month visa, your one way ticket with 'dummy' ticket and sending the visa to the Philippines and insurance. One month visa can be extended with an additional fee of AED 1,200.

UAE Ministry of Labour

The Ministry of Labour (MOL) or Labour Department in Dubai and the UAE governs all work related issues. The MOL is responsible for issuing work permits (or labour cards) and imposing labour bans on those who are entitled to one. The Ministry of Labor does not issue residence visas or entry permits, they are dealt with by the relevant UAE immigration department (in Dubai, the DNRD).

The course is the only one of its kind to be approved by (RERA), delivered by the Dubai Real Estate Institute, targeting all real estate offices and real estate professionals currently working or are planning to work in the market. The course aims to qualify real estate practitioners as real estate specialists in the Dubai market. The modules will discuss the following topics:
• Legal environment
• Code of ethics
• Property Registration &Transfer Procedures
• Introduction to Standard Forms
• Introduction to the Owner's Association
The Real Estate professionals need this training to increase the practitioners knowledge and qualifications, real estate sector awareness, mandatory to renew the Real Office License and mandatory to receive the Real Estate License or ID (participation & completion of this course is compulsory to receive a RERA license or to have it renewed)

Salary Scale in Dubai

With the amount of information in the media about the rate of population growth and the beautiful buildings in Dubai anyone would think it was an emirate where the streets are paved with gold. Well, while it’s true that a lot of people are moving to Dubai for work, what is not true is that all jobs in Dubai pay fantastic salaries!

Those who work in Dubai work long hours for up to six days a week, and in certain industries salaries are impressive – but in other job sectors wages are on a par with or worse than the income that can be earned elsewhere. Therefore, those looking for jobs in Dubai should take care to do proper research and due diligence before committing themselves to a career move.

But because the region has no personal taxation, net income is usually much greater, which is one of the major attractions of working in Dubai. In addition to their salary, contract workers are awarded an ‘indemnity’ at the end of the contract period. The indemnity is usually based on basic salary excluding any bonuses. The indemnity can be a significant amount of money if you’ve been working in Dubai for a long time, and many people manage either to accumulate a reasonable financial cushion or to live the high life. If you’re clever and disciplined, you should be able to do some of both. The indemnity has nothing to do with insurance but is an end-of-contract bonus which is required by law to be paid to expatriate workers as a sort of ‘thank-you’ for being of service to the state. (It’s also known as ‘end of service benefits’.) Indemnity scales usually amount to 15 (in some cases 20) days of basic pay per year of employment for the first three years and thereafter a month’s salary per year of employment. Sometimes, Arab companies delay the payment of salaries, cash flow problems being passed on to their staff. In this event, you have little alternative but to wait.

Of course salary is not necessarily the be all and end all of job hunting – especially in Dubai where it’s usual for an employer to present a remuneration package offer to a potential candidate. Such a package may include a housing allowance, health care benefits and even money towards .children’s education.

1. Recognize from yourself that you are indeed a slump. If you feel tired and pessimistic, take the time out to re-energize and seek the focus, strength and inner peace you need to pursue your job search and get ahead with your career.

2. Plan your day as if you are going in the work and approach it with the same vigor, organizational skills and discipline. Maximize each day by including networking activities, visiting your friends, research and training activities.

3. Seek to surround yourself with encouraging upbeat people who will inspire and motivate you rather than bring you down.

4. Learn and stay motivated by reading success books, autobiographies and listening to audio books of those successful people from those who have made it in the industry or line of business you are targeting.

5.Whenever you think you have reached a dead end and your confidence in your abilities is waning, remind yourself of past successes even as you re-energize and rethink the strategy for your job search.

On Dubai Employment Contracts

On being offered a job, which in the vast majority of cases happens in the expatriate’s own country, you will almost certainly sign a contract or at least a letter of agreement.

This will contain the conditions of employment and perhaps include a detailed job description, indicating responsibilities and performance standards.

In Dubai, your contract specifies your basic salary, job title, duties and responsibilities, the period of your contract, and possibly also details of the reporting structure and performance measures of the company. An employment contract should also contain termination conditions, including required notice of intent to terminate the contract on either side and liabilities to be incurred in respect of breaking the conditions of the contract.

Are you an employee who do not have a copy of Labor Contract? Don't worry at all, because the UAE Ministry of Labour provides E NETWASAL services that can be access online. That means, you will now have an access on your labour card details and contracts.

Make sure the following are on your hand so you can access the online services :

If the nurse wishes to work only for the Dubai Government, the application should be sent to the Department of Health and Medical Services in Dubai (DOHMS).

- Copies of their certificates or degrees

- A copy of their school leaving certificate or comparable certificates.

- Copy of the current nursing licence which should be authorised from the home country of applicant.

- Copy of his or her work experience, signed by a senior official. The work experience documents should show starting date of employment, date of leaving employment and should mention the post held.

- A passport copy, including entry permits to the UAE. Those who have a valid residence visa must submit a copy.

- Three passport size photos.

- Fill in an application form.

- All documents must be translated into Arabic.

- If the nurse passes the interview and the examination. he or she will be given the post of nurse in accordance with the qualifications.

- The job will be at any of the ministry's hospitals, clinics or in any medical district in any of the seven emirates.
