Last Saturday, June 5, a symposium called "The UAE economy and prospects for the Filipino entrepreneur," organised by the University of Philippines Alumni Association in the UAE at the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi. Grace Relucio Princesa , the Philippine Ambassador to the UAE. opened the symposium.

I say, it depends on different situation. Some are able to land on a high paying job because their boss are kind enough to give them a release and some companies have HR department to review the performance of the staff and recommend an increase.

In some companies, even though, you work hard and they see your potentials, they will not give you a proper credit. They will not give an increase saying that the company have no income, etc...and this is the current salary in the market.

On the other hand, some Filipinas accepted the low paying salary because they wanted to immediately have an employment visa and for them, they don't have a choice.

Summer season starts from May to September. During this period it is extremely hot and the temperature rises at above 40°C and really humid outside. Most of the people preferred to stay indoors except for some Westerners who wants to feel the sunny weather.
On this period, most expats opted to spend holidays back home and since the schools are also closed, there is less traffic.
The annual Dubai Summer Surprises will also begin on June to enticed the people to stay here and attract the tourists to come over.
For the benefits of workers at the construction site, the Ministry of Labour enforces the Midday break rule
from 12:30pm to 3pm starting from mid June to mid September. Companies who will not follow will get a hefty fine.

Gulf News, the leading English newspaper here in UAE published these tips today:

1.Make the first move

"List out career options you think you would really enjoy, not just the ones you think you can do," says Catherine Roan, managing director of career change consultants Careershifters.org. "Research how others moved to these careers."

2.Think about things you're good at
Tanya de Grunwald, founder of GraduateFog.co.uk says: "A good job search should start with you, not your CV. Are you an ideas person? Are you good at explaining things? Look closer and you'll find moving towards jobs you'll enjoy."

3.Think about the skills you have picked up

Believe in the news, believe in what the people here in Dubai are saying...

and Believe in me... Believe when we say that it is still hard to find a job!

Even if you try different strategies i.e., networking, contacting recruitment agencies, submitting resumes' on different websites...sadly, you will get no response!
So for those who have jobs, stay and hold on to it...Don't think of changing one for now.

It is also a good idea to visit the UAE if you have been offered a job, before accepting the job. Just remember not to actually start working while still on a visit visa.

The average cost of Tourist Visa to UAE for 1 month period is AED 2,500 - AED 2,700. That includes your 1 month visa, your one way ticket with 'dummy' ticket and sending the visa to the Philippines and insurance. One month visa can be extended with an additional fee of AED 1,200.

Some pinoys opted to pay AED3,500 for two months tourist visa.

Visiting Dubai and the rest of UAE will require entry visa like Dubai tourist visa, Dubai Transit visa or Dubai Employment visa. Some nationalities can obtain visa upon arrival at Dubai Airport but mostly are required to obtain visa before travelling to Dubai.

What happens for Pinoys who come here on Tourist visa? Some are lucky enough to find an employer immediately and convert their tourist visa to employment visa. Unfortunately for others, after one month or two months, they have to fly out of the country for 30 days before they can get a new tourist visa. The city of Dubai offers plenty of career opportunities in sales across various sectors from retail industry to financial firms to real estate companies.

Getting a job in Dubai in sales needs little awareness and good presentation of your skills. An efficient seller would always aim at converting prospective buyers into revenue generating deals. He would be able to convince them that the product offered is best for him/ her. A successful career in sales would require:

Show your substantial track record.

Express your desire to succeed.

Tact to sell products even in slowdown.

Energy and capability to impress the buyer.

Dynamic personality to generate sales.

Spontaneity to improvise as required.

Other general traits.

If you feel that you are equipped with all these qualities, you are among the ideal candidates that global companies are looking for. Just exhibit them to your employer and grab the job you deserve.

On top of getting the right kind of sales job in Dubai, you would be paid high compensation that too tax-free. So, whatever you earn is for you to directly spend or save at your will. People take up jobs in UAE mostly with the aim of earning life-time savings to secure the future.

Some of the business sectors to consider when you want to take the sales jobs are the Banking and Finance sector, IT industry, the Real Estate ( even though at present the Real estate is down here in Dubai, companies are still hiring and offer lucrative salaries and benefits) and Oil and Gas.

Property agents are in demand because the majority of investors, buyers and sellers are not fully aware of the dynamics of the market, since most of the investors are coming from other countries. Lack of knowledge regarding real estate laws and matters make them vulnerable against various types of frauds, except when they are represented by an experienced broker. In past, some fraudsters took advantage of the absence of any specific regulations controlling real estate agents. These swindlers managed to defraud both buyers and sellers. Thankfully, RERA took quick steps towards making and implementing regulatory measures to curb these fellows who were giving bad name to the entire market

Dubai’s Real Estate Regulatory Agency (Rera) said on 10th January 2010, that it has signed a new deal with the Ministry of Labor to officially recognize real estate brokers as a separate professional category. Labor cards and residency visas issued to brokers will now include their designation, instead of categorizing them as sales staff.

The Real Estate Regulatory Agency, in its aim towards establishing a professional and secure work environment in the sector, will launch its Real Estate Certified Practitioner's Training Course. The course is the only one of its kind to be approved by (RERA), delivered by the Dubai Real Estate Institute, targeting all real estate offices and real estate professionals currently working or are planning to work in the market. The course aims to qualify real estate practitioners as real estate specialists in the Dubai market. The modules will discuss the following topics:
• Legal environment
• Code of ethics
• Property Registration &Transfer Procedures
• Introduction to Standard Forms
• Introduction to the Owner's Association
The Real Estate professionals need this training to increase the practitioners knowledge and qualifications, real estate sector awareness, mandatory to renew the Real Office License and mandatory to receive the Real Estate License or ID (participation & completion of this course is compulsory to receive a RERA license or to have it renewed)
For registration kindly fill up the Training Registration form in the RERA website. Check the registration steps below. The Real Estate Certified Practitioner's Training course fee is AED 2500 per person. Payment is in the institute delivering the course according to its procedure.
The courses are open for all who are interested in the training. They need to fill up the form online and make the payment afterwards to confirm their booking.
With the amount of information in the media about the rate of population growth and the beautiful buildings in Dubai anyone would think it was an emirate where the streets are paved with gold. Well, while it’s true that a lot of people are moving to Dubai for work, what is not true is that all jobs in Dubai pay fantastic salaries!

Those who work in Dubai work long hours for up to six days a week, and in certain industries salaries are impressive – but in other job sectors wages are on a par with or worse than the income that can be earned elsewhere. Therefore, those looking for jobs in Dubai should take care to do proper research and due diligence before committing themselves to a career move.

But because the region has no personal taxation, net income is usually much greater, which is one of the major attractions of working in Dubai. In addition to their salary, contract workers are awarded an ‘indemnity’ at the end of the contract period. The indemnity is usually based on basic salary excluding any bonuses. The indemnity can be a significant amount of money if you’ve been working in Dubai for a long time, and many people manage either to accumulate a reasonable financial cushion or to live the high life. If you’re clever and disciplined, you should be able to do some of both. The indemnity has nothing to do with insurance but is an end-of-contract bonus which is required by law to be paid to expatriate workers as a sort of ‘thank-you’ for being of service to the state. (It’s also known as ‘end of service benefits’.) Indemnity scales usually amount to 15 (in some cases 20) days of basic pay per year of employment for the first three years and thereafter a month’s salary per year of employment. Sometimes, Arab companies delay the payment of salaries, cash flow problems being passed on to their staff. In this event, you have little alternative but to wait.

Of course salary is not necessarily the be all and end all of job hunting – especially in Dubai where it’s usual for an employer to present a remuneration package offer to a potential candidate.

But how will you stay motivated until you find a job?

1. Recognize from yourself that you are indeed a slump. If you feel tired and pessimistic, take the time out to re-energize and seek the focus, strength and inner peace you need to pursue your job search and get ahead with your career.

2. Plan your day as if you are going in the work and approach it with the same vigor, organizational skills and discipline. Maximize each day by including networking activities, visiting your friends, research and training activities.

3. Seek to surround yourself with encouraging upbeat people who will inspire and motivate you rather than bring you down.

4. Learn and stay motivated by reading success books, autobiographies and listening to audio books of those successful people from those who have made it in the industry or line of business you are targeting.

5.Whenever you think you have reached a dead end and your confidence in your abilities is waning, remind yourself of past successes even as you re-energize and rethink the strategy for your job search.

6.Use this time in between jobs to learn a new skill. Consider taking technical or management courses related to your chosen industry to enhance or it or have always wanted to acquire.

7.Set realistic short-term goals that advance your long-term objectives and on a daily basis revisit and reward yourself for your positive accomplishments for the day. These goals may include a specific number of CVs sent out, interviews gained, cold calls made, new skills acquired, professional books completed etc. Make sure your goals are reasonable and focus on achieving them one goal at a time.

8. Do some volunteer work to feel more useful and widen your networking circle. In some cases, volunteer jobs can also be add on your CV.

9.Always be thankful and count your blessings all the time.

10. Don't lose sight of the activities that you enjoy best and that maintain a critical balance in your life.

There are endless opportunities for growth and career development in Dubai as the region is witnessing immense growth itself. Thus, the number of job openings has also increased considerably in Dubai and both local as well as multinational companies are willing to hire foreign nurses in Dubai. Working as a nurse in Dubai comes with many benefits as one gets to acquire invaluable professional experience working in world-class healthcare institutions under the best of conditions and of course with high remuneration.

To maintain a high standard of service, the UAE has set specific regulations for those who wish to work as nurses in the government or private sectors.

Nurses can apply for a job at the Ministry of Health in Abu Dhabi or Dubai and if the application is accepted, the person may work at any of the seven emirates.

If the nurse wishes to work only for the Dubai Government, the application should be sent to the Department of Health and Medical Services in Dubai (DOHMS).
