The Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) is a non-profit organization supported by sister organizations around the world. It is consistently audited by a multinational auditor company and operating under the formal agreement with the Indonesian Ministry of Forest to conserve and rehabilitate orangutans. BOS manages orangutan rescue, rehabilitation and re-introduction programmes in East and Central Kalimantan. With almost 1000 orangutans to care for and over 400 staff BOS is the biggest primate conservation NGO worldwide. BOS is employing top notch professionals in the fields of biology, specifically primatology, of psychology, veterinary medicine, botany and forestry.

The international animal welfare organisation VIER PFOTEN is the major donor to the Samboja Satwa programme. VIER PFOTEN employee Dr. Signe Preuschoft is a primatologist who is acting as Satwa Manager Advisor to support and train the incoming Satwa manager and a fresh team of Satwa Coordinators and Supervisors.

BOSF policy makers are organized in a Board of Trustees and a Board of Supervisors. From 2010 on, its executives are headed by one CEO who directs the departments of Finance and Administration, of Human Resources (all based in Bogor) of Fundraising/BOS Global (based in Stockholm), and the Managers of the regional Programmes at Samboja, Nyaru Menteng, and Mawas.

Work Post
The successful applicants will work in a team for the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation, based in Samboja, East Kalimantan, for 1 year, with a 6 month period of probation.

Coordinator of Technical Services
(Kalimantan Timur - Based in Samboja)

Responsibilities:

Provide supervision and leadership to all sub-departments (security, transportation, purchase, maintenance and construction of animal holding facilities)

Professional maintenance and monitoring of assets such as animal holding facilities, incl. supporting infrastructure (e.g. water, electricity and waste management), tools and equipment as well as project cars,

Management of the car pool and drivers according to priorities set by the Satwa Manager.

Supervise purchase of animal food, enrichment items, and materials needed for construction and maintenance of animal holding facilities, infrastructure and transportation, in cooperation with the Coordinators of Animal Care and Veterinary Medicine

Through the Supervisor of Security, coordinate and prioritise activities necessary to keep the premises safe, incl. cooperation with the Samboja Lestari plant programme and the local community in designing fire brigade activities and fire surveillance.

Efficient use of energy and water including supervision/coordination in the short-term as well as designing a long-term plan for sustainable use of energy and water

From 2010 on: construction of additional animal holding facilities (enclosures and cages) will commence. The design of the facilities is made by the Animal Care and Veterinary departments, and external consultants. While contractors will aid with the execution of the design the coordination and supervision of both contractors and BOS staff resides with the Technical Services Coordinator.

Planning, budgeting and implementation of all technical operations

Regular reports to Satwa Manager as required

Pro-active reporting of expectable or existing problems (failures, shortages etc) in any of the sub-departments

Keep animal holding facilities safe and functioning at all times.

ROLE: Coordinator of Technical Services

REPORTS TO: Project Manager of Reintroduction Orangutan

STAFF MANAGED: Four direct reports, ca. 15 in total

MAIN TASKS: To provide technical support for all animal operations, by supervising the sub-departments of Security, Transportation, Purchase, Maintenance and Construction of animal holding facilities, in close collaboration with the Coordinators of Animal Care and Veterinary Medicine

Requirements:

Education and at least 3 years of experience in either metal work or construction.

Proven project management skills.

Proven leadership skills.

At least 2 years experience with managing multiple staff

Respect for animals

Basic English language skills, spoken and written

Fluent Indonesian language skills, spoken and written

Preferable

Basic understanding of electro-technics
Basic understanding of sustainable water management

Must be thoroughly familiar with project management and logistical coordination.

Sr. M & E Officer

Responsibilities:

Assist M&E Delegate and all those involved in M&E, in:

Ensuring effective and relevant M&E systems are incorporated into projects and proposals considering technical suitability, donor requirements, resources and capacities.

In conjunction with program managers, develop project-specific monitoring tools.

Coordinating/managing the design and implementation of baseline, mid-term and end of project evaluations, surveys, special studies, and other components of the M&E system as technical assistance needs arise.

Perform routine quality control checks of M&E work and improve processes and practices relating to M&E data analysis and management.

Preparing and training staff, primary stakeholders, and implementing partners, as necessary, on general design, M&E concepts, skills and tools.

Working with project managers and Head of Programs to ensure that lessons learned from project and program evaluations influence future project selection, design and implementation.

Working with staff and external consultants in meeting the M&E needs of Indonesia as needed.

Facilitating strategic planning reviews, as needed.

Supporting external evaluation missions.

Supervising M&E Officers within Monitoring & Evaluation unit

Undertake any other relevant duty as might be required from time to time

Requirements:

A Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent, in a Social Sciences discipline (Statistics, Mathematics, Psychology or Economics). A graduate degree preferred

Previous working experience at senior level of monitoring & evaluation activities

Good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team

Ability to relate to stakeholders across all levels

Good time and stress management skills

Commitment and motivation

M & E Officer

Responsibilities:

Provide support to PMI-NAD in the implementation of M&E plans and reporting requirements generated by it

Implement an appropriate filing system to track all data required for the M&E operations

Create and maintain contacts with PMI-NAD and other national programs by participating in meetings and forums relating to monitoring and evaluation

Assist PMI-NAD staff, management, consultants, partners and other interested parties to gain access to M&E related information

Work with the ARC Senior M&E Officer and M&E Delegate, as required on all aspects of assessments, capacity building baseline/end line surveys, evaluations and other specific tasks.

Prepare field reports and draft progress reports regularly

Facilitate capacity building at PMI-NAD Branch levels in effective monitoring and evaluation

Conduct a series of supervisory visits to identified PMI Branches to assist them in the development of systems and skills to collect data for the ARC database and for their own use

Follow up with PMI-NAD Branches that have not submitted Program Monitoring Report Forms

Conduct data auditing of a pre-determined random sample of PMI-NAD Branches that have submitted forms

* Assist in planning the design of water and sanitation in rural areas
* Conduct field assessment and identify priority problems in water and sanitations. Assist in
Engineer assessment and help in the preparation of project plans and BoQ
* Work in accordance with the drawing and specifications provided by the field / Project
Engineer
* Supervise construction, repair and maintenance of water and sanitation and assist in the
payments to local site superviors and laborers
* Ensures that all construction material is used appropriately and in accordance with approved
plans
* Provide timely report and up date information on all developments in the field
* Coordinate with the local authorities and communities for guaranteeing a good community
participation and a smooth implementation of the work
* Work in accordance with the Red Cross / Red Crescent Principles

Requirements:

* Background in Civil Engineering
* A minimum of 3 years experiences in construction water and sanitation, piping supervising and
work as a plumber will be an advantage
* Excellent communications skills, Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Aceh. Basic knowledge of
English is assets
* Analytical skills with the ability to learn quickly
* Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word in assets
* Able to work with community and possibly out of office hour
