I am thrilled to announce the launch of my new blog MyLifestyleCareer.com, a site for anyone (not just moms) who wants to reinvent their career outside the 9-5 corporate box.

As most of you know, I have spent the past 12+ years as a career coach for moms who want to reinvent their careers to be more family-friendly and/or entrepreneurial. I've loved every minute of it and plan on continuing to work with my mom clients for a long, long time to come.

But, as the years have gone by, and as corporate America has become a tougher place to work, I've been increasingly aware that it is not just moms who want help with finding lifestyle friendly careers. Lots of folks -- young singles, Baby Boomers and people long to work from home --are looking for ways to break free of the corporate world in order to achieve a better work-life mix.

So, please take a look, sign up to receive blog updates, and pass on the link to your family and friends. Thanks for your continued support of Jobsandmoms.com and in advance, welcome to MyLifestyleCareer.com.

Inside the box was a text book that she had mistakenly sent home instead of to her dorm. Knowing that she needed the book for a class, I texted her and asked what I should do. No surprise, she immediately wrote back that yes, she made a mistake, and yes, she needed it right away. She did make sure to add "sorry" so I couldn't be too mad at her.

Back I went to the car. Drove to the post office where I spent fifteen minutes trying to figure out the relative merits of Priority mail over Express mail. Sent the book off and (once again) headed home.

By the time all was said and done, it was 1:00 pm. I quick gulped down some soup, and now finally, I am "starting" my day. I've turned the cell phone off and will let voice mail pick up the rest of the messages. Wish me luck!

1) Almost all of her friends are now employed after a summer of looking, with the majority of offers happening during the second part of August. Despite a tough economy, it appears to have taken most of them three months of active job search to start generating offers.

2) As you may recall, Danielle and five friends banded together to form Grads 4 HIre, an "odd-job" company that provided them some income while they looked for "real" jobs. A win-win all the way around and a fabulous talking point during interviews. Working every day gave the girls structure, a bit of income and kept their spirits up during a difficult transition. The "odd" jobs also generated several leads towards more interesting options.

3) Under the category of "I never would have predicted this" Danielle's job happened as the result of a recruiter pulling her resume off of Monster.com. Statistically the odds of that happening are less than 5 percent (at best). I would never advise anyone to just post their resume and wait, but this just goes to show you that you need to work all the angles in the job search.

You just never know when the right combination of ingredients will result in the creation of the perfect job.

Congratulations Danielle!

At a time when nearly one out of every ten workers is unemployed, it should come as no surprise that companies are being frugal when it comes time for doling out raises. According to data recently released by Hewitt Associates, the typical raise for non-hourly workers in 2009 is hovering just under 2%. That increase is the smallest percentage we've seen during the past 33 years. Worse still, 48% of the companies polled have salary freezes in place.

On the positive side, pay-for-performance compensation plans and bonuses linked to results are increasing in popularity, meaning top performers still have the opportunity to be rewarded for their contributions to the bottom line.
