Entrepreneurship The Next Best Option

Entrepreneurship seems to be my only way out and I do not want to go backwards and as long as I don't want to be stuck in "no money" for several months, I do have a choice. That choice is between a one-time lump sum payment, or a recurring payment. I decided on the recurring payment, as there is also the option to pay in monthly installments over time.

So how do I go about finding a home for the money? I can sell my business, get rid of its assets (which I plan to donate), use the money to buy another business, buy real estate or invest in the stock market. This is an important decision. Here are my considerations:

1. The business is doing well. There is a lot of money to be made. We have already established the residual income potential (you will continue to get income for months or years after you sell your business).
2. The business is valuable. It's already making you money. It's in demand. There is little competition. What's more, you can make money from it even if your current business fails.
3. You can keep the business after you sell it. You may keep it in a separate corporation, a trust, a blind trust, whatever. In effect, you can keep the assets of the business. If the business doesn't perform, you can claim that you were careless not to hold onto it, and you can have it returned to you.
4. You can take the assets out of the business and keep the business. You have to take the assets out of the business, so that you can be paid. If you think of the assets as yours, you have to pay the taxes on the income.

How to Get Your Own Revenue Projections

So which decision should you make? I think the decision is a mix of the two. Of course, the decision to keep the assets in the business depends on what you have decided to do with them. If you are going to invest in the business, you should consider putting the cash into the business, rather than in your personal bank account.

* You don't have to do this, but you should consider the long term effects of not doing it. Even if you lose the money in the first place, you will have paid taxes on it, which is better than not having paid taxes at all.
* I don't recommend taking the assets out of the business unless you can't get investors. If you can find investors, they will probably want to see proof of viability, and they will want to see a commitment to the business as well. You will lose the assets, but you will gain a commitment from an investor, which could be invaluable to the survival of the business.
* I don't recommend doing this unless you have a good plan for how you are going to get investors. You need to write a good business plan to sell your business, and you need to follow through with that plan. If you don't follow through with your business plan, you risk losing your investors.
* I don't recommend doing this unless the investors are really loyal. If you lose your investors, you lose your money. There is no getting them back. You should consider them so precious that you need to treat them well in order to keep them. You should consider them so much that you will bend over backwards to keep them happy.
* I don't recommend doing this unless you are completely sure that you can get investors for your business. If you don't have a good business plan, you will need to go back to square one.
* I don't recommend doing this unless you are completely sure that your business can get investors. If you are not sure, you should consider closing your business immediately.
* I recommend doing this only as last resort. If you have done your research and think it will work, then I recommend doing it. If you are not sure or you think it won't work, then don't do it. You can always try this self employment gig again in a few years.
* I recommend not doing this unless you have given your business a good thorough start. The first step is to figure out where you are at. How much money you have, how much money you need and what your cash flow looks like.

There is no set formula to figure out your cash flow. That will be determined by your business, your industry, your target markets, and so forth.

What I do recommend is that you work out your cash flow as best you can and then, after you have done that, work out how you will pay off debts and create a surplus. The way you create a surplus is by not paying off debts and creating more cash flow. That is to say, you create more sales and profit each month than you take in. So in effect, you are not taking out as much cash flow as you are making each month. That is a good formula. That formula works well.

Once you have a clear picture of your business, it is time to move on to revenue projections. I recommend doing this with a spreadsheet or tableau. You need to know where your business is currently at, and how much revenue you need to make next month to meet your targets.

Revenue projections are really just estimates. Not the estimates that you see on TV where the person estimates how much revenue they will get next week or next month. Those are good estimates but they are not the ones you will use. The ones you will use are the ones that have a 12 month calculation and they also take into account seasonal trends. They also factor in inflation.

The revenue projections are done by getting all of your expenses and adding them together. Then dividing by 12, adjust this yearly projection as needed to account for inflation. That is what you need to worry about. You do not need to worry about how fast your expenses are getting adjusted.

The ones you adjust are the ones that project beyond the next 12 months.Next, add up your sales so that the result is a monthly sales figure. Now divide this monthly sales figure by 12. You now have your monthly revenue figure.Next, divide your monthly revenue figure by the number of months left to end the year.

Next, you need to plug your sales figure into your monthly revenue figure. Each month, you will have 2 figures. The one before the year and the one after the year. That is the revenue figure that you need to get per month. This is what you will put into your financial statements.

To make your financial statements even, you will have a sales figure in January, a revenue figure in February, and a corresponding sales figure in March, etc. That is the way to make them even. Next, you will need to determine your net profit figure. This is the profit after paying your expenses. This is also an annual projection based on your expenses already being deducted from your revenue figure. If your expenses are being higher than what they were in January, you will need to increase your revenue figure by the same amount. You do not need to worry about a new figure being added every month. This is just a way to make your financial statements even.

Upgrading from Level 1 Teacher Certification to Level 2 or Level 3 Steps

Level 1 certification has an expiration date but do not fear because, you can renew or upgrade to Level 2 or 3. It's not at all difficult. When my level 1 expired, I upgraded to Level 3 because I had a good amount of college credits.

If you are currently working as a level 1 for a year or more and have college credits, you will have to forward your college credits to your Teach account, do the DASA workshop and submit an application for a Level 3 Certificate which you will pay for and then it will be mailed to you. How To Get Full Time Job As A Teaching Assistant At ADAPT

These are the steps you need to take before landing employment at Adapt. Seeing that you will be working directly with children; you must be certified and that includes taking a written examination. It's New York State law.

You want to get hired right? So, first you must register with New York State because you must take that exam. The name of the exam is ATAS 095. Please pay attention because there are different exams on that website and you do not want to register for the wrong exam. Click ATAS095 to register and find out more about exam price and other information.

Once you register, you will be able to select a date, time, and location that you want to take this exam. Exams are held Mondays through Saturdays excluding some holidays and it's by appointment only. Lines are always long so regardless of your appointment time, you want to show up ahead of time. The passing score is 220. You will be notified by email and you will have 45 days to download your test score information because after that, they charge you whenever you request it. But, you need not worry because, exam scores are automatically submitted to Albany by New York State on your behalf.

You absolutely MUST remember your login information for these websites so write them down in a safe place.

You need to register with Office of Teaching Initiatives. There you will complete your resume. Click Office of Teaching Initiatives.

This office is in Albany and furnishes paper Certificates upon request for a fee after you submit all required documents by mail. These are your child abuse and violence prevention certificates, GED certificate, fingerprint cards, and citizenship clearance. Remember these have to be mailed to Albany by you.

Click certificate requirements for the physical mailing address. Your DASA Certificate and test scores are sent to your teach account in Albany by the state. It doesn't matter if you are already fingerprinted by the Board of Ed. Albany needs your prints on cards so visit get your fingerprints done at any precinct for a fee of course. They provide the cards.

To register for a Teach account for the first time you will have to register at NY.GOV first. Then you will navigate to the NYSED website where you will click teach self registration, check the box and then click create account.

Get Hired-You have done all that is required, now what?

Login back into your Teach Account to make sure there are no issues with your documents. If everything looks good submit an application for your paper certificate. Paying for it with a credit card speeds up the process. The cost used to be $35 so check for pricing.

In a matter of days your Level 1 paper certificate will arrive and voila! you are on your way and you will get hired before the year ends. You are on your way to getting a job with benefits, paid vacation, retirement plan, dental and health insurance, 10 paid sick days, union representation and more.

Now it's time to get hired. With your your Teaching Assistant Certificate you can either match down to the office at 175 Lawrence Ave or the 160 building, submit it online along with your resume, workshop certificates, and High School Diploma / GED which ever way you want. You can even do both.

Going to the job site in person gets you faster results. You can relay your desire and ask the Director about any possible openings. Once you visit the website recruiting you will see all jobs and requirements.

Like I said, you are half way to get hired before the year ends in School-age or Preschool as long as there's a vacancy. You never know they may place you in Manhattan.

You see, you may have already been working with a Special needs child and that's your experience right there providing it's 6 months or more.

I don't know about other companies but, if you decide to seek employment at ADAPT in Brooklyn as a Teaching Assistant, the Director submits this experience data (school district recommendation) on your behalf so, that's one less criteria to worry about.

( Note, the Director can only do this for you once you've taken care of everything else - have a GED or High School Diploma, pass the basic exam (which you can request to take in your language, if English is not your strong suit, complete 3 workshops which must be submitted along with fingerprint cards to Albany.

To advance and increase your pay, after a year of work, you can apply for level 2 or 3 certification but you will need to submit to your teach account college credits, (just go to your registrar's office and they will submit them to Albany on your behalf.

Be sure to walk with Albany's address as you will need it when filling out the form at the registrar's office. DASA workshop was recently added so if you haven't done the DASA workshop do it and provide your director / Principal with copies of your DASA certification receipt so he or she can take care of your Experience section. After that submit an application online at TEACH for your certificate.

Graduated yes finally! Thankful that all the
stress was over until I began my job search and realized that job searching was a job in itself. A most stressful job with the only difference being I wasn't getting paid and that wasn't good. What bites even worse was that the job I prepared for wasn't available and when I did find one they wanted experience which I didn't have. I only had theory, book knowledge which wasn't enough. I wasn't ready for the job market.

With a Bachelors in Computer Information Systems one would think that with everything computerized these days that landing a job in the field of Information Technology would be a breeze. Boy, was I in for a rude awakening! No one seemed to be hiring at the time so, I had to take matters into my hands.

I discovered that if one does not have any experience and licensure to accompany that degree one is toast unless one becomes an Entrepreneur.

Even if you have a degree, to qualify for certain Government jobs you still have to pass an exam which you have to pay for. To top it off, there's no guarantee of getting hired because selection is based on scores. Seventy percent is the passing score so those who score higher than seventy stand a better chance of landing that job.

The same holds true for finding a NYC job in places of higher learning. If you did work study and they decide to keep you as an employee, you still have to take an exam to obtain required credentials and these are also not free.

Some people believe that having a Degree in Education makes one job ready but it's not at all true. Sorry to disappoint but, you will not be hired if you are not certified by the state. And, to be certified you need to pass exams and complete workshops which you must pay for and pass with a set passing grade. If you don't pass you must pay to retake that exam in order to get that license. I think that these exams are just money makers because there are people who have failed by one or two points and have to pay to retake the exam.

When I was job searching my primary focus was the public sector and many people can concur. Like me, many overlook working in the private sector because, people always said that the pay is bad. Well, that's true of some private sector jobs like ADAPT formally known as UCP of New York. Even if you have credentials the pay is still low.

I found a job at ADAPT and I have been working there ever since. I have met others who have been working there for 30 plus years and the pay rate I started with is greater than what they currently make.

This just shows that you should not get too comfortable especially when you have opportunities to spread your wings, fly, and better yourself. You see, some people get so comfortable that lost sight of available opportunities then, they get lost in the comfort zone and you know what they say about the comfort zone. "Nothing grows there". Things just stay stagnant.

If there is one thing you should take from this blog entry is this. Take advantage of all the opportunities avail themselves to you. Adapt presents many opportunities to broaden ones horizons. Remember what I mentioned earlier about credentials? You need them to land this job. And if you really want to better your situation you will get them.

But it's something you must want for yourself. No one is going to force it on you. If you go back to college ADAPT pays you a maximum of $600. This is a separate check. Also, being part of the Teacher's union provides an opportunity to go on to graduate or undergrad schools at a discount. Working at ADAPT is stress less. Everyone gets along and there's the absence of the drama found on other jobs. People pretty much mind their business, do their work and go home.

UCP of New York (ADAPT) is always hiring and the jobs are not dead end. One has the opportunity to grow and move up the ladder for higher pay. It all depends on the individual.

I know of individuals who started as Teaching Assistants and advanced to Therapists, Social Workers / Special Education Teachers. If you are having difficulty finding a job maybe you are looking everywhere else but here.

By here, I mean Non-profit Organizations like ADAPT. The pay is not as gorgeous as that of the public sector but, they provide perks and benefit packages. Many people use ADAPT to gain experience and move on and that's ok.

Back to how me, a graduate with an IT background landed the job of Certified Teaching Assistant with no Teaching experience. So since, I couldn't find work with my degree, I enrolled in a program and learned how to become a certified computer Technician. That training landed me a one week job and that was that. After that, it was back to job searching.

I had a friend who was taking a course on home daycare. She told me I should take the certified teaching assistant exam. After hooking me up with all the information, I passed the exam, did a few workshops, and became certified as a Level 1 Teacher Assistant.

Today I am working as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant with a higher pay rate. I intend to continue climbing the ladder and go to graduate school. Although it's non profit my starting hourly salary of 14$ (Level 1 Certified Teaching Assistant) along with paid sick days, paid vacation, health and dental benefits, UFT representation along with other perks like Tuition reimbursement makes for a beautiful benefit package.

The hiring process is on a referral basis but they will still hire you if you approach them. Hiring of new employees is ongoing as long as there are vacancies. The Human Resources Department distributes a list of open positions within UCP of NYC on a weekly basis. To become a Certified Teaching Assistant, you need to do 3 workshops(violence prevention, child abuse, DASA), pass the Teaching Assistant Exam with a score of 220, provide fingerprints on a card to Albany after which, Albany will furnish you with a hard copy certificate per your request. You will also get fingerprinted again by the Board of Education and that will be done digitally.

Click ADAPT to get the job that's awaiting you. This is a "Nonprofit agency that provides direct services technology and advocacy to children and adults with cerebral palsy and other developmental disabilities. It's a multi service provider delivering more than seventy-five comprehensive programs, including healthcare, education, technology, residential, and habilitation services". Offices are located at 80 Maiden Lane in NY.

Click exam to register for Teaching Account and to take Teaching Exam. More info is available by clicking Teaching Assistant information. The workshops you can do at any center. For each workshop you have to spend 2 hours reading, viewing videos and taking test. Workshops are cheaper if you have the time to sit at a center for 2 hours or you can take it at violence prevention site online and go at your own pace. You do not have to sit in front your computer for 2 hours straight. You can complete these workshops online at your own pace if you are pressed for time. Only thing they cost more than the local centers charge.

Click Teach to set up your account and for submission of your workshop certificates and fingerprint documents. After you pass the teaching assistant exams your scores will be automatically sent to Albany but you will have 45 days to view your scores and print them for your records. After 45 days they charge you a fee for any hard copies whenever you request them.

Your first set of fingerprints which you will submit to Albany can be done at your local precinct or where they do fingerprints. You will need the cards to mail to Albany. Bear in mind that the police station charges a fee for those prints. You will be required to take a 2nd set of prints at the Board of Education (if you haven't) which they will keep and give you a receipt which you must keep in a safe place because fingerprints are costly.

Women outnumber men in the school age and preschool departments at ADAPT. Males are in very high demand so, males your chances of getting hired as a Teaching Assistant or Teacher provided you meet the requirements are very high.

Allow me to introduce myself. I am Hendrix - a student at John John College. This past semester my English Technical Writing Class has been focusing and researching character education, plagiarism, and cheating. According to William May, the author of the book Ethics and Higher Education,informal polls indicate that as many as three-fourths of the student population on campuses today admit to some form of academic fraud. Cheating is accepted as a way of life,because too little is done to prevent it,and there is reluctance on the part of faculty and administrators to report it and prosecute when it occurs. At best the problem is dealt with unevenly; at worst it is avoided or totally ignored. If colleges and universities are to have an impact on value development,and I suggest they should,then a concerted effort by faculty and administrators must be undertaken in order to address the problem. (171)

The polls indicate that there is a lack of heightened interest in ethics or morals. Faculty and administrators are partly to be blamed for not doing their part to combat such unethical behavior and for not putting controls in place. In the majority of our schools,cheating on test and the wrongful acts of plagiarism have become very rampant. That's why,I am writing you this letter to address the need for an enforced character education curriculum in our schools.

Character education as defined by Dr. Thomas Lickona, author of Educating for Character,How Our Schools Can Teach Respect and Responsibility,is the deliberate effort to develop virtues that are good for the individual and good for society. The objective goodness of virtues is based on the fact that they affirm our human dignity,promote the well-being and happiness of the individual,serve the common good,define our rights and obligations,and meet the classical ethical tests of reversibility (Would you want to be treated this way?) and universalism (Would you want all persons to act this way in a similar situation?);

Character education is as old as education itself. It dates way back to the times of renowned theorists like Piaget,Kohlberg,Turiel and Carol Gillian who all conducted research and experiments in the area of character development. The goal of education has and always will be to help people to become smart and help them to become good. The founding fathers believed democracy has a special need for character education,because democracy is government by the people themselves. The people must therefore be good,must develop democratic virtues,respect for the rights of individuals,regard for law,voluntary participation in public life,and concern for the common good.

As you can see,character education is not something new. If the founding fathers endorsed it and thought it to be a good concept that should be invoked in government then,it certainly is important. The very idea that people needed to develop moral ethical behavior,which would benefit them and others as they continue through life,has been in the works. It appears to be vanishing and needs to be reimplemented and enforced at the college level as well as the elementary level.

Since home is the first school,character education should begin there; however,with the changes in family structure-mom working two jobs,or mom and dad working,then the burden falls on schools. It is said that,it takes a whole village to raise a child;therefore,the responsibility extends not only to parents and teachers to raise persons of good character and moral standing,but the community as well. Character and morals can be used interchangeably since they mean the same thing. Huitt and Vessels define the term,a moral person,"as a person who understands the difference between right and wrong and willfully chooses what is right. A virtuous person engages in good behavior intentionally,predictably and habitually. An ethical person figures out what is right or good. (260)

Character Education is made up of honesty,self-responsibility,citizenship, respect,fairness,and caring. However,my focus is on honesty. It is of vital importance to stress the importance of this aspect of character education because dishonesty when tolerated hurts the innocent and vulnerable. Everyone is affected.

Let me take you back to the Enron scandal,where CEOs,top educated men regarded as trustworthy men took advantage of many and stole their life-long earnings. Such display of bad behavior simply says that,these men have no conscience and no morals. In the implementation of character education curriculum,honesty needs to be emphasized since it is a pivotal part and ranks highest on the list of character education traits. To integrate this aspect of character into the curriculum,I propose the following:

First of all,college catalogs should have a section devoted especially to academic honesty. The term should be broken down in simplest of terms so that even the dumbest of all persons can understand what academic dishonesty means. It should also be accompanied by consequences for those who do not adhere to the rules and regulations.
At the registrar's office a banner that reads "Cheating" is not tolerated here should be displayed. Also,since teachers are the gatekeepers to character education,the burden lies heavily on them for being good role models to their students and for assisting in behavior changes. Therefore,they should be held accountable for not enforcing or administering punishments to those who do not adhere.Dr. Marvin W. Berkowitz, a developmental psychologist , a professor of character education at the university of Missouri supports this by saying," When we think of character education we tend to think first of how students behave and how we can implement strategies and structures in schools that will lead students to develop more desirable personality traits, competencies, and behavioral patterns. What we too often fail to recognize is that this is much more difficult to achieve if the adults in the school community do not "walk the talk." I think we need to start character education with a focus on the adults, and only when we get this in order, start to worry about what we can do to support the development of the students. A typical daily routine of an employee is to wake up in the morning, prepare one’s self for the day, go to work for eight to ten hours, go back home and sleep. This is repeated five times a day for a year for the rest of his working life. In this scenario, it can be clearly seen that the life of an average employee is very sedentary – always on the desk and without exercise.

Most employees admit it and they argue that they didn’t have the time to go to the gym or any facilities to exercise and workout. For that reason, their sedentary lifestyle always resulted to back pain, wrist pain, stiff neck, overweight and other health conditions. However, what these employees didn’t know is that there are simple exercises that can be done in the office, while working. Indeed it is true; thus, continue reading to find out what are these exercises that can be done inside the office without having to write a written reprimand to your superiors.

The simplest thing to do is stretching. You can do this while you are sitting on your desk or if time permits, while you are standing. Also, you can go to the powder room to do some stretching. Stretching will relieve the stress and can uplift your mood to feel better.

Do some lifting. You don’t have to bring a dumbbell to do this activity. All you have to do is fill up you water bottle and its good to go. Do at least 10 counts in 3 repetitions on both arm and you can feel the strength of this training.

You can also climb the stairs in the morning as you go to work and climb down upon leaving.

Do some legs training. While you are sitting, you can do some leg curling. Do this for 10 times on both legs. In addition you can also do some leg stretching. Nobody will see you while you do such activities. Thus, you don’t have to be afraid. Just watch out for the wires under your table to be safe.

Do some breathing exercises. Yes, you can do it while you are inside your office or even in the cafeteria. All you have to do is slowly take a deep breath to inhale and then release the air slowly to exhale. You might want to close your eyes to clear your mind and increase your focus.

After learning the above mentioned exercise routines while in the office, you don’t have any more excuses for not staying fit.
