The Red Number Call

So today nobody in Kenya wants to pick up an unknown number on a 'red' number....I was doin some research
that this red number thing has been around for some time.Check out what Ali Naafiz had to write about it..

Imagine a scenario where you are enjoying your usual brew of coffee, when you get a phone call from an unidentified number on your mobile. The next thing you remember is glass cracking and the next moment you are dead before you knew what was actually happening.

The rumours swept like wildfire among Maldivians on Tuesday, with chain messages warning the receiver not to answer calls from 7888308001, 9316048121, 9876266211, 9888854137 and 9876715587, “which would be in red colour.” Or else “you may get brain haemorrhage due to high frequency,” the texts read. They also claimed “27 people died just receiving the call,” urging the receiver to “watch DD News [an Indian public broadcaster] to confirm” the reports.

The messages caused panic, confusion and fear across the country, and the news spread everywhere, with many forwarding the stories to their friends, family and colleagues via text messages, as asked by the sender.

It reminded me of the fictional global blackout shown in ABC’s television show ‘FlashForward,’ which was allegedly engineered by a group of scientists specialising in Plasma Wakefield Experiments and complicated quantum physics. I actually thought some scientists specialised in high-tech gadgets and radioactivity created a method to kill people by using mobile phones!

Mohamed Mirshan Hassan, Manager Marketing Communications and Public Relations of Dhiraagu, the leading telecommunications provider in the Maldives, however, confirmed that the message was a hoax.

“We often get spam emails from people who claim to be African kings or princes. Such hoax emails and messages are intended to create fear among the public. People should not be panicked by such messages. There is nothing to worry about,” he said.

In deep analysis of the ‘Red Number’ call warning that revolved around the Maldives; it can be observed that the message was not actually new. In fact, variants of the text message were reported to have first appeared on April 13, 2007 in Pakistan, where they caused widespread panic and inspired a slew of ancillary rumours, such as the claim that the phone calls, if listened to, could also cause impotence in men and pregnancy in women, about.com explains. Pakistanis attributed the ‘virus’ to the wrath of God and claimed that it was the handiwork of ancestral spirits enraged by the construction of a cell phone tower in a graveyard. The rumour eventually spread to Kuwait and Middle Eastern countries.

On Apr 26, 2008, Cambodian officials reported a spreading rumour within the country, which claimed that a ghostly red number was appearing on mobile phones and killing people. The news broke in the country and the deeply superstitious Cambodians believed that it was the work of sorcerers and spirits, M&G News reported.

A few hours after the spread of the news, dozens of theories about how this virus kills its victims were traded within the Maldives. Some people claimed that, the actual cause of the instant death was a loud noise heard by the receiver, which leads to the explosion of blood vessels in the brain. This explanation, however, has been rejected, as a mobile phone speaker cannot produce such high-frequency sounds.

The reports that radiation or high frequency of the call causes brain haemorrhage has also been falsified, as mobile devices, being low power transceivers, have a typical maximum output power of two watts and the highest frequency of two gigahertz. The low power (short-range) electromagnetic radiation emitted from mobile phones due to the use of radio frequency (RF) waves to make and receive calls, can in no way harm a human.

While one warning sign has been that the ‘killer’ number appears in red colour on the screen, it is apparently clear that phones with monochrome (black-and-white) displays cannot possibly show red colour for any of its operations. Therefore, those with monochrome displays are dead meat and having such a phone appears to be the best precautionary measure to take, if something like that ever happens.

“Mobile phones are designed to operate in a safe frequency and our [network] frequency is also safe [for humans]. In addition, mobile phones can only display colours they were designed to display. Text messages [and calls] cannot be made to appear in a certain colour, without installing specialised software, like our Colour SMS software,” Mirshan said.

No matter how illogical these rumours may sound, they have sent a shiver down the spine for many, with some stopping receiving calls or SMS messages from unknown numbers or numbers they are not familiar with.

“These rumours simply do not make sense. Who would believe that a simple call or text message could kill a person?” a local blogger and science enthusiast, who wished to remain anonymous, said.

However, there are people who believe that a call can instantly kill off a person.

“There might be some truth in the rumours. I remember the story of a killing in American Embassy via a telephone call back in the 1980s. I am not saying that the rumours are true, but I was scared after reading the SMS. Since anything is possible now, it can be possible,” Ahmed Hassan, a local artist and photographer said.

Finding Your Keywords

Once you have found a market that you wish to target, its time to find the keywords. I use the google keyword tool as this gives you a great idea of whats popular within the market. Your seo marketing depends on these kind of tools to find the best words to target.

Choose two keywords that have a high monthly search volume so you know that theres enough traffic to convert into sales. Ideally you would target a keyword with at least 5,000 monthly searches. When you have two of these keywords, you can move on to the next stage.

- As an example for this article, i have visited the keyword tool to find keywords for the product i picked from the "finding a market" section shown above and i would choose "increase targeted traffic" and "targeted website traffic". These are the two keywords that you want to rank on the first page of results within google.

The Method You Can Use

As you are using seo marketing to advertise your affiliate program, you would need to use a strong domain in order to gain the best rankings. If you use a new domain then google will not take much notice of your site for a long, long time, so its easier to use a popular domain that has a high authority within google such as hubpages, ezine articles or squidoo.

For the purpose of this article i will say that im going to use ezine articles to gain first page rankings for the keywords i have picked.

When i write my article, i must make sure that my keywords are visible within the title, the summary and within the body of my article to make it as relevant as possible for ranking purposes. I usually place each keyword in my article "once" every "100" words.

TIP: For my keywords picked above i can merge them together which is ideal, so my title could be
"Increase Your Targeted Website Traffic Using Automated Software". This allows me to then increase my rankings for the keywords chosen as well as making the article nice to read.

Write a good, 500 word article that is related to the offer you are promoting, making sure that you explain the issues surrounding this subject and then a brief outline of how people can overcome the issue. Dont write the article in a way that would advertise what you are promoting or your article may be rejected. The resource box is used to recommend a product related to the article.

Direct Linking Approach

I have used direct linking alot in the past and have had great results. All you have to do is register a domain that is related to the product you are promoting. Use the forwarding feature within your domain control panel to redirect any visitors to your affiliate link provided by google.

You can then include this link within the resource box of your article which is the section you can use to advertise the cure to the issues you raise within your article.

This method is ideal for newbies who cannot yet create landing pages. I would personally always use my own simple landing page that would capture the name and email address before sending the visitor to the offer as i can then sell other related products later on. The direct linking approach is not for everyone but if you cannot make a landing page then you can use this method to break down this barrier and make sales.

Increasing Your Rankings

In order to increase the rankings for your keywords, you must build relevant backlinks to the web address of your ezine articles page. You must use anchor text which include your keywords with a link to your article. The more backlinks you build, the higher your rankings will become.

Write a few articles per day and link back to your main article within the resource box. Use many different article directories and accounts on squidoo, hubpages, wet paint, zimbio, weebly, blogger and wordpress to build quality links to your main ezine article.

How Do I Make Money from Blogging?

So I cleared campus and I have been job hunting for quiet some time.I needed cash but with no job, I had to get some means of making some. I couldn't start a business, I didn't have capital. After some extensive research on how to make money online, I finally got a means with assurance. Now I get asked how much money my blogging makes me on a regular basis. These days I don’t go into specifics about it – all I will say is that it continues to increase each month as my cheque lands in my mailbox

I hope you find it useful to see the mix and variety of ways that I earn a living from blogging.

1. AdSense

I use AdSense with real effect on my other blogs.
While I do use AdSense Referrals and their search feature it is their normal ads that work best for me. I have them all set to show image and text based ads and find that 250×300 pixel ads work best (usually with a blended design).

2. Chitika

Last time I did this sort of summary Chitika ranked #1. This time around it has been overtaken by AdSense – not because Chitika slipped in how much it earned but because AdSense went up and because I also replaced a few Chitika ad units with WidgetBucks ones. Chitika offers a range of ad units that I experiment with. I find their eMiniMalls work best and that Related Product Units are also good. Their Shoplincs product isn’t performing as well as it once did for me – mainly because I’ve been promoting it less and have driven less traffic to it.

3. Amazon Associates

This has been one of my big movers in the last 12 months. I used to make a few odd dollars from it – however in recent times it has become a significant earner for me. This quarter it overtook TLA as my third biggest earner – largely on the back of me directing traffic to Amazon from my product related sites – mainly digital cameras. While the commission on cameras is only 4% this adds up when those that you refer buy higher ticket items.
4. Forex Trading – As seen in the offline forex bureaus, they buy currency A and make a margin by selling it at a higher rate. Say if I buy $ 100 for Kes. 7,000 and then I sell the dollars to a tourist who is leaving the country for example for Kes. 80 Per dollar. that means 100*80 = Kes. 8,000. You see I spent Kes. 7,000 to buy $100 and I’ve sold the $100 for Kes. 8,000, that means I have kes.1,000 in profits. The same logic is applied online. Using the Right tools you can trade this and make loads of money.

5. FreeLance – Your Photography, Typing, Customer Service, Programming, Design and other personal
services can be outsourced to various companies and you get paid for it. This form of earning I don’t refer it a business, as it limits to you to the amount of work you can do for a certain number of hours. however, it’s usually better off than nothing.

6. Affiliate Marketing- This is my favorite, its what drives the internet in social media, social bookmarking, forums, blogs, e-commerce sites name them. Have you heard of Amazon, Click bank, Craiglist, commission Junction, Neverblueads and ebay among others. Have seen guys claim to make millions of dollars online the lazy way. this is what they are referring to: Affiliate marketing.

4. Private Ad Sales/Sponsorships

This includes ad sales of the 125 x 125 ads mostly at probogger as well as a couple of private ad deals that I did with sponsors on my camera blog (including sponsorships with Canon, Kodak and Adobe). This area has jumped up since last time I checked.
5. Text Link Ads

The income from TLA has dipped slightly over the last few months simply because I took the decision to stop selling them at my blogs. This was because I wanted to focus more upon selling the 125 pixel ads instead and felt that the ads I was attracting were not as relevant to this site as they could have been. As it turns out this might have been a good move because it seems Google has been penalizing blogs that run them lately.

6. ProBlogger Job Boards

The job boards at ProBlogger continue to grow each month in the number of advertisements that are being bought. This enabled me to invest most of the money that they’d earned a while back into getting a new back end for the boards and to redesign them. It hit me today that the boards are now bringing in around $1000 a month in revenue which is pretty nice considering that they are now so low maintenance to run! stay tuned for some new features coming soon which could see this revenue increase and more importantly for it to become an even more useful resource to readers.

7. Miscellaneous Affiliate Programs

I run a variety of affiliate programs on my blogs – most of which bring in smaller amounts of money that don’t really justify a category of their own. These include – - Digita l Photography Secrets (a camera technique series), Pro Photo Secrets (a great photoshop product) , Yaro’s Blog Mastermind Mentoring Program, SEO Book (Aaron’s legendary resource). This area is set to continue to grow in the current quarter with me having had reasonable conversions from the promotion of the excellent Teaching Sells course.

8. Miscellaneous Advertising Programs

I also play with a number of other ad networks. Some I run as tests to see if I should review them here – and some are just advertising that run in the background on some of my smaller blogs. These include AuctionAds, Feedburner RSS ads, Vizu (a poll advertising system), Kontera and Bidvertiser. Together these don’t add up to major earnings for me – not because they are not good, but because I don’t use them heavily (a blog can only run so many ads on it).

I think that that covers most of it. Since last quarter I’ve also been experimenting withWidgetBucks as well as one other ad system that is still in a closed beta test. I’m certain that WidgetBucks will feature in next quarter’s list because I am getting good returns on that so far. In fact at it’s current earnings it’ll debut at at least number 4 on the list and perhaps even at number 3.

I will dwell more in affiliate marketing as it is the most sure way of landing cheques to your bank account without spending a dime!!!

HUMAN RESOURCE & ADMINISTRATION MANAGER

This position will report to the General Manager and will be responsible for, and manage the Human Resource and Office Administrative functions of the company...

1. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
a.Implement and monitor company policies and procedures.
b.Recruitment and selection of new employees.
c.Maintain and update staff records and production reports.
d.Oversee general office administration.
e.Conduct and coordinate employee performance appraisals.
f.Ensure adherence to company training policies and procedures.
g.Review, analyze, update and recommend revisions of policies and procedures.
h.Develop effective strategies for improving teamwork.
i.Periodically review job descriptions, salary schedules and reporting structures.
j.Supervise the Human Resource and Administration Officer and Administrative Assistant.
k.Maintain confidential personnel files and HRMIS.
l.Contribute to the development and implementation of the social activities calendar.
m.Administer staff benefits including medical and all statutory payments.

n.Keep track of matters relating to statutory and other deduction to ensure that appropriate deduction from staff salary are made and remitted on a timely basis.

Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time.

. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES
•Undergraduate Degree in Social Sciences or any other relevant discipline.
•Diploma in Human Resource or Personnel Management.
•Over 5 years experience in a busy Human Resource department service a large workforce.
•Good understanding of Kenyan Labor Laws.
•Ability to supervise and manage a support team.
•Excellent communication skills and well developed IT skills especially working with HRMIS or any other relevant programs.

3. REMUNERATION
•KES 80,000-120,000/= PER MONTH
•Medical in-patient and out-patient
•Mileage allowance
