I leave my Way

2011-04-10T22:55:00.000-07:00

I haven't selected my way so far
yet I am compelled to travel
Alot alot and a lot more
I begged I dont want
I don't need this way
But i continue both
journey and begging
A single hope left
Final destiny,,,
First time i took a decision
Myself and my own
will God punish me?
I don't mind
I do without fear but with confidence
No one should help me
I leave my way
I leave my way........for ever

Blackhawks sneak into playoffs

2011-04-10T21:59:00.000-07:00

After a disappointing and erratic regular season, the Chicago Blackhawks blew their final chance to make their own way into the playoffs. But the defending Stanley Cup champs got help later in the day and gained the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Blackhawks needed 1 point Sunday against Detroit to get in but didn't get it as they lost 4-3. Drew Miller, Danny Cleary, Tomas Holmstrom and Pavel Datsyuk scored for the Red Wings, already locked into the No. 3 seed in the West. But the 'Hawks got the assistance they had to have when Minnesota beat Dallas 5-3, buoyed by Antti Miettinen's goal early in the 3rd period to snap a 3-3 tie, thus keeping the Stars from getting the last slot. As the 8th seed, Chicago will face top seed Vancouver in the 1st round of the postseason.
Devils 3, Bruins 2 • Vladimir Zharkov and Alexander Urbom scored in the 3rd period to boost New Jersey, and after the game Devils coach Jacques Lemaire said he was retiring. Lemaire, 66, retired after last season but returned Dec. 23 after John MacLean was fired.
Penguins 5, Thrashers 2 • Tyler Kennedy scored the first of Pittsburgh's 4 goals in the 2nd period and reserve goalie Brent Johnson won his 4th straight decision to boost the Penguins.
Avalanche 4, Oilers 3 • David Jones' goal in overtime sent Colorado to victory in the finale for its captain, Adam Foote, who is retiring after 19 NHL seasons.

Albert Pujols will Open Up on CBS' 60 Minutes

2011-04-10T21:11:00.000-07:00

Albert Pujols' Influence On and Off the Field Profiled By CBS

Albert Pujols is everything you want in a professional athlete. First and foremost, the St. Louis Cardinals' slugging first baseman is big and strong, and few players work harder than he does. It's because of these things that he's put himself on the fast track to the Baseball Hall of Fame, not to mention a new contract that could be worth as much as $30 million a year.

Of course, as great as Pujols is on the field, his influence stretches well beyond the ballpark. He is one of the most charitable athletes in contemporary sports, which is as much a part of his legend at this point as everything he's accomplished with a baseball bat. And it was this aspect of his life that served as the primary focus of his appearance on CBS' long-running series 60 Minutes on Sunday night.

Pujols and his wife, Deirdre, are well known at this point for the Pujols Family Foundation, the charity they launched in 2005. The Foundation's mission is to three-pronged:
As for the first part of that statement, Down syndrome is something that became part of his life when he and Deirdre got married in 2000. Deirdre's daughter, Isabella, was born with Down syndrome. His 60 Minutes interview opened with a feature of a dancing party that the Foundation put on, in which Pujols was shown dancing with seemingly every last guessed in attendance. The smile on his face made it clear that he was having the time of his life.

Pujols' rise to prominence was also chronicled by CBS. It started with Pujols getting largely overlooked as a high schooler in Kansas City, as he wasn't drafted until the 13th round of the 1999 MLB Draft. Two years later, he won the NL Rookie of the Year on the strength of a season that saw him hit .329 with 37 home runs and 130 RBIs. I think we all know the rest.

When Pujols is not crushing fastballs in the major leagues, there's a good chance you'll find him in the Dominican Republic, where he makes an effort to make a difference in just about any way possible, whether it be providing healthcare, mattresses, or of course, baseball diamonds.

Pujols makes no effort whatsoever to hide the fact that his life is driven by his faith. It's what leads him to value the lives of others as much as he values his own, and the fact that it has also led him to a clean lifestyle has also come in handy. After all, Pujols managed to survive baseball's infamous Steroid Era without a single black mark on his resume, and this is a big reason why he has long since emerged as the face of the game.

In the realm of contemporary sports, there are only so many athletes that are universally liked by everyone. Pujols is one of them, which is pretty remarkable given how so many of his contemporaries have been vilified over the last decade.

On balance, the 60 Minutes segment only served to further cement something that any self-respecting baseball fan should already know full well: that we are getting to watch a true living legend. He's already one of the game's all-time greats, and he's just 31-years-old. By the time he retires, he could be the greatest player to ever play the game.

I don't know about you, but I'm thankful that day is still many years away.

For more on this matter, see where Pujols ranks on our list of The 100 Greatest Players in MLB History.

Bulls built Scottie Pippen’s sculpture as the team trounces Boston

2011-04-07T21:41:00.000-07:00

Back in

the fall of 2005, the Chicago Bulls decided to honor their former All-Star forward Scottie Pippen by retiring the six-time champion's jersey number. As time moved along, and as Pippen's role in the Bulls organization increased, the franchise eventually decided that this wasn't enough. So on Thursday night, at halftime of a heated contest between the Bulls and the Boston Celtics, Chicago unveiled a sculpture of Pippen that will be on display in the United Center for every one of the stadium's events.
The Bulls have done this before, unveiling a giant statue of Michael Jordan outside the arena back in 1994 when it opened (and when the team retired Jordan's number for the, uh, first time), while also paying tribute to late former coach and broadcaster Johnny "Red" Kerr with a statue of his own two years ago.
Pippen, who has come back to Chicago in 2010-11 to act as "team ambassador," got a more colorful tribute, literally. The statue doesn't just bronze the Basketball Hall of Famer and leave it at that; it also gave color to his hair, and the blood red Bulls jersey he sports on the sculpture.
At a halftime ceremony unveiling the work, Pippen was typically smooth, articulate, and gracious. Posing with his wife Larsa and his four children, he thanked the sold-out crowd effusively while ranking the honor "at the top" of the many achievements (two gold medals, six NBA championships, seven All-Star Game appearances, a jersey retirement, and a Hall of Fame induction last summer) he has received in his basketball career.
It's hard to imagine such a ceremony taking place this time back in 1999, just two months after the Bulls signed and traded Pippen after a rancorous end to his initial run as a Bull. Pippen had long clashed with former Bulls General Manager Jerry Krause, who had scouted and drafted the unheralded forward in 1987, and Pippen (ranked 122nd amongst NBA players in yearly salary after signing a penny-wise but pound-foolish long contract years before) demanded a trade as Chicago attempted to defend its title in December of 1997.
Literally demanded it. As in shouting "why don't you trade me! Trade me!" from the back of a team bus at Krause as the team drove to the airport following a road game.

Pippen got his wish following the 1998 championship season, as Chicago put together a package to actually make Pippen more money in a trade with the Houston Rockets, rather than letting him walk outright, but the rest of Pippen's career included nothing but frustration and failed attempts at re-creating what he had in Chicago.
He never meshed with Charles Barkley and Hakeem Olajuwon in Houston, and was traded to the already-stacked Portland Trail Blazers the year after. Though Pippen's all-around gifts helped the team on its way to a seventh game in the Western Conference finals, he was never the smooth type of scorer that could take over a game late, and his Blazers fell short to the Lakers. The Blazers brains fell short in the years following, and in the summer of 2003 Pippen found himself a soon-to-be 38-year old free agent.
Krause had left the Bulls at this point, after a pair of failed rebuilding attempts of his own fell short. Former Bulls teammate John Paxson, however, was now running the team, and he surprisingly lured Pippen back to Chicago to provide veteran leadership on a Bulls team rife with young players. Though Chicago was picked by some to end a five-year drought and make the playoffs that season, Pippen's body failed him, and the youngsters played up to their age. Pippen retired after the 2003-04 season.
Paxson made a point to keep Pippen around, though. Pippen sat in on several local TV broadcasts with the team in 2004-05. His number was retired the next season, and when Pippen's financial troubles became public knowledge a few years later, Paxson and Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf hired Pippen in an ambassadorship capacity.
Scottie has been a fixture on the team's sideline throughout 2010-11 with courtside season tickets, he works with the team in practice, makes dozens of public appearances, and Pippen will be in the broadcast booth when the top-seeded Bulls take to the postseason later this month.
And with Jordan's statue looming large outside the United Center, the team decided to take the next step and give him an honor that moves beyond the retired jerseys given to Jordan, Jerry Sloan, and Bob Love. The celebration came on a good night, as well. The defending Eastern Conference champions were in town, and the new-look Bulls trounced the veteran Celtics by a 97-81 score.
Unlike Jordan's statue, which sits for free view in the United Center parking lot, you will have to pay a ticket to take in Scottie's bronzed and beaming visage. But should things keep up, and the Bulls keep winning, why look at a sculpture in the arena's hallways when you can spy the real deal in the front row? Something tells us that Scottie is going to stick around this time.

Dancing With the Stars' Karina Smirnoff will bear all in May issue of Playboy. A Twitter post this afternoon from Hugh Hefner of all people confirmed this.
"May issue of Playboy is unforgettable with Dancing With The Stars Karina Smirnoff on the cover & nude inside," wrote the octogenarian founder.
Not exactly something we would have predicted, but Karina certainly has the looks. Wonder if Hugh Hefner and Crystal Harris vote for her on DWTS ...

Pia Toscano Eliminates from Imerican idol 2011

2011-04-07T21:33:00.000-07:00

No one saw this coming. American Idol sent home Pia Toscano on Thursday night, widely viewed as one of the best singers left in this year's competition, and it sent the judges fuming.

"I have no idea what just happened here," said judge Jennifer Lopez. "I'm shocked, I'm angry, I don't even know what to say."
Fellow judge Randy Jackson agreed with Lopez, and added, "I'm never really mad on this show, but this makes me mad."
Toscano, 22, is from Queens, New York City, and the fact she was sent home drew boos from the audience, Reuters reported. There are eight competitors remaining.
The elimination also led to widespread social media chatter, with many saying they were shocked, and some saying they won't watch Idol anymore altogether. Even Snooki weighed in with a tweet, "Pia should have won the whole thing! I'm not watchin Idol anuymore. I'm with JLO on this one..."

American Idol:Iggy Pop, 'Real Wild Child performs to Rocks

2011-04-07T21:29:00.000-07:00

So you wanna be a rocker, James Durbin? Take a lesson from Iggy Pop -- who at age 63 (Note: That's like 398 in heroin years) pranced shirtless across the "Idol" stage singing his 1986 hit "Real Wild Child."

At some point, even legends become caricatures of themselves. Think "Fat Elvis" or, you know, Britney Spears. But that doesn't mean we don't still heart them. And Iggy gets our props for -- in true rock and roll spirit -- not giving a flying **** whether he delivered a top-notch performance on a competition show he would've bombed out of back in 1969 anyway. The man is a rock legend and that's why he was there Thursday (April 7) night.

Those of you out there who are not necessarily fans of Iggy's seminal band, The Stooges, may have been left shaken and a little confused. It's okay. Just forget it ever happened and keep humming Constantine Maroulis's rendition of "Unchained Melody."

But for anyone interested in hearing Iggy at the top of his form, well, check out this nugget:

Anna Hazare's campaign against corruption may be rooted in Gandhian values, but it's getting much support from modern communication tools.

Mobile movement
Just like in the West Asian and African prodemocracy movements, modern telephony has greatly helped spread the message of Anna's resolve to go on an indefinite fast.
The organisers had sent group SMSes at random, asking people to give missed call on a certain number to express their solidarity. And, the result was astonishing. More than 7 lakh such missed calls were registered.
FB portal flooded Talking of technology, the internet revolution cannot be ignored. Not the least by India Against Corruption. A country anguished by the stupendous rise in corruption has chosen the organisation's Facebook portal to give vent to its feelings. Else, the number of its FB members wouldn't have swelled from 5 lakh to a staggering 12 lakh in two days flat. Better still, the count is growing every minute and so are the number of its followers on Twitter. Anna Hazare's campaign in numbers
40,106 is the number of people who 'like' Hazare's 'India Against Corruption' page on Facebook, called 'Indiacor'.

will Japan nuclear power station Employees Quit?

2011-03-26T03:45:00.000-07:00

Tokyo Electric Power Corporation has reportedly given an option to workers of Japan's earthquake-cum-tsunami hit nuclear power station in Fukushima Prefecture to decide whether or not to continue at the plant, but many experts believe that the workers are not in a position to decline job offers as 'it would affect them in the future'.

Since the crisis began at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant following the March 11 devastation, 17 workers have suffered radiation of over 100 millisieverts, the maximum level to which nuclear plant workers may be exposed per year, the Kyodo news agency reports.

All of them were engaged in critical works to improve the conditions of six affected reactors at the plant.

On Thursday, three subcontract workers were exposed to high levels of radiation while laying down cables, standing in water apparently containing radioactive materials at a turbine building adjacent to a reactor building.

The utility has said that it is "up to each individual to decide whether or not to continue" working at the plant, but experts familiar with working conditions said that the option is not quite viable in the case of subcontractors.

"I would think it is a terrible job but if you are an employee of a subcontractor, you will probably be unable to decline, thinking about future orders (for their employer)," Mitsuhiko Tanaka, a former engineer in nuclear plant designs, said.

Keiji Miyazaki, professor emeritus in nuclear engineering at Osaka University, however said that it is an emergency situation, and "in order to put an end to it soon, those who are knowledgeable are called on to stay and conduct work." (ANI)

Control of Libya operation Will be taken by NATO

2011-03-26T03:27:00.000-07:00

In Libya, where the international coalition enforcing a no-fly zone has hit more targets in the north African country.

Nato is close to taking control of military operations in Libya, ...

The US says coalition attacks on Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's forces have weakened his ability to exercise command over his ground forces and the United States is in the process of transferring control of the Libyan mission to NATO.

The Pentagon confirmed on Friday that the coalition had fired 16 more Tomahawk cruise missiles over the past 24 hours.

Bill Gortney, director of the US Joint Staff said the targets are more "opportune" rather than predesignated. He added that the coalition struck more targets of Libyan government ground forces outside the rebel-held town Ajdabiyah, and more command and control targets around Tripoli.

The US is in the process of transferring control of the mission to the coalition. He said NATO has already taken over the arms embargo at sea and no-fly zone patrol in the air.

The US will continue to oversee protection of Libya's civilian population.

Canadian Lieutenant-General Charles Bouchard will lead the alliance's military campaign in Libya.

NATO says it has planned for a three-month no-fly operation over Libya.

Oana Lungescu, NATO Spokeswoman, said, "At the same time, NATO is actively considering whether to take a broader role under the UN Security Council resolution. Without prejudging the deliberations we would expect a decision to take over all operations in the next few days. At this stage our mission is to close Libya's air space to all flights except aid flights. NATO pilots and controllers will do everything they can to deny the Gadhafi regime any use of air power, and they will do so with care and precision to avoid harming the people of Libya."

NATO ambassadors will meet on Sunday to discuss plans for broadening the alliance's mandate to take full command of military operations.

Officials say it is not clear if a decision will be made before a meeting in London on Tuesday to set up a high-level steering group, including Arab states. The group will provide political guidance for the international response to the Libya crisis.

NATO officials say if all 28 member states agree to expand the role of the alliance, this would give it political control of operational decisions. However, they also say it would take into account the guidance of the body that emerges from London.
