With Valentine’s day quickly approaching, we wanted to celebrate it with a fun contest for all you love birds! Although I’m sure you guys are absolutely adorable, we don’t want you to send us a cute standard photo of yourselves. Let’s make this interesting and play a little bridal shower game! Since we all LOVE the DIY projects on Pinterest, we want you to try your hand at designing a wedding dress! The fun part, you have to design it out of toilet paper! Either of you can model the dress and have someone snap a picture to send to us. Be creative and don’t forget, the accessories!!!

Once you have your photo ready, here is what you will need to do:
1.Email us your photo(quality doesn’t matter) at info@jocofoto.com
2.Go like our facebook page: JoCo Foto
3.Tell you friends on Facebook or Twitter that you entered to win a session with JoCo Foto and be sure to tag us
4.Have your friends and family like your photo on our facebook page (They must like our page as well for the vote to
count!)
5.The photo with the most likes by February 18th will win an engagement session with an 11×14 mounted print from JoCo Foto.

We had the pleasure of hanging out with some pretty amazing photographers for a “rock and roll” themed wedding shoot this weekend. We all met up at the awesome Cotton Ginnovations in Sumrall, MS and I must say the space was perfect for this funky shoot. The bride totally rocked out the dress from Forrest Paper and Bridal Company while the rest of the models completely fit the theme. The flowers provided by Blooms in Hattiesburg, MS where the perfect addition. We had such a great time and look forward to the next time!

The other day Tami and I had the opportunity to hang out with one of Jackson’s most eligible bachelors. Our inspiration for the shoot was a mix of Saturday Night Live and GQ Fasion meets 50 Cents. Although the pictures are more on the serious side, the behind scenes were full of fun and laughter! We had a blast hanging out and I hope you like the sneaks.

The other day I had the opportunity to hang out with a family that I have known for a long time. I started off with their maternity pictures, then newborns and now we are at Jordan’s two year mark. Wow, how time flies! It was a blast haning out with your family and I hope you like the sneaks.

We don’t get very many opportunites to love on “fresh” babies any more since we mainly book weddings and engagements, but this little cutie has been on the calendar for a while now and we were so excited to finally meet her! She was such an angel the whole time we were there. I am pretty sure she only wimpered once. I love all the photos we were able to get! Congratulations again, guys, on your beautiful baby girl! We had so much fun hanging out with the three of you and hope you are getting some much needed rest!

As we enter into the new year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the previous one. First off, we had some of the most awesome brides this year. There were a total of three military weddings, two of the grooms I know are still over seas as you and I celebrate the New Year. We wish them a safe and speedy return and thank them for their service to our country. 2011 marked several changes for us; our family saw the addition of a new little baby boy named Isaac in late summer. Life has certainly been more fun since he came arround! We also decided to change our name from Tami Johnson Photography to JoCo Foto to better fit the direction of the business. The name change was discussed for over a year before we finally decided on a name. Possible options that we considered were Stephen and Tami, Blu Door, Fresh Fotos, He & She, You & Me, Stami (I love this one, one of our good friend’s son combined our names one day) and several others. This year marked the first year we had second shooters with us. While Tami was towards the end of her pregnancy, she was unable to keep up with the fast pace of weddings. A big thanks to April and Paul Russell and Rachel Kabukala for helping us out. This year was a great one and we are excited to serve our upcoming brides in the new year. We wish everyone a safe and Happy New Year!

Also, this year will be our first year to be in the Premier Bridal show January 8th, be sure to go and check us out.

No post can go without pictures, so here are a couple of pics of Tami and I doing our thing as well as some of our favorites of the year.

Finally, These were not brides but Adam and Alli are good friends of ours and really awesome photographers as well. His picture is one of my greatest creative lighting works to date.

This year has been an extremely fun and exciting Christmas for us as parents. Through many tired nights, Tami and I (mainly Tami) have gone a little overboard with Mr. Jingles, our elf on a shelf. The day after Thanksgiving when Mr. Jingles first arrived, our 3 year old son was very reluctant and didn’t want Christmas to come! We made it our mission to bring out the Christmas spirit in him and in the process brought out the Christmas spirit in ourselves that I haven’t had in many years. Mr. Jingles was always busy around the house starting marshmellow fights with Henry’s toys, jet packing around and even dressing up like Elvis, or Elfis as he called himself. As the days passed closer to Christmas, Henry’s excitement grew with him waking up every moring with “let’s go see what Mr. Jingles did this morning.” Finally, Christmas Eve came and we were all sad to say goodbye to Mr. Jingles. What really suprised us even more was our little 3 yr olds excitement for baby Jesus’ birthday. We made Him a birthday cake and even sang happy birthday. Henry sat listening to every word while we told the birth narative of our Lord and Savior, Jesus. He even repeated the story as he stacked his picture blocks repeating back what we had said in his sweet little tender voice. I thought to myself that Jesus must be smiling down from Heaven listening to his little children praise him.

His excitement reminded me of the narative in Matthew of how the four main characters respond to the birth of Jesus. King Herod responded with hate and tried his best to get rid of Him as some people still do to this day. The people of Jerusalem were disturbed and went about their daily life wondering what negative impact this might have on themselves. The Chief Priest and Teachers of the law knew all the right bible answers when asked but were spiritually dead and thought nothing more of his birth. Sadly, most of us could identify with the the Chief Priest and Teachers; we know the right answers, but worship as subdued as a cow staring blankly at the beautiful golden sunrise. In stark contrast to the others, the Magi dropped what they were doing, traveled miles bringing their most valuable posession, and worshipped the baby prophesied as Emmanual, God with us. This Christmas, I pray that all would respond to the birth of Jesus with the Magi’s excitement and fervent!

No post is complete with out some pictures, the first one is our birthday cake for Jesus. Henry thought the cake looked best with most of the sprinkles in the center of the cake. We left a note for Santa with some milk and cookies. Then there are a few of our favorite Mr. Jingles pictures too. I wish you all a Merry Christmas!

Evan and Rebecca

The other weekend Tami and I had the opportunity to go to one of our favorite small towns in Mississippi. Natchez is a very quaint and elegant southern town that is rich with heritage and a perfect location to get married. Evan and Rebecca remind me of the classic movie Sweet Home Alabama, except the setting is in a larger town. Rebecca is a south Florida city slicker and Evan is a good ”ole” Alabama country boy. The one thing they do have in common is an akward kiss, love for thier alma matter Auburn where they met and love for each other.

While the ladies were getting dressed, the guys were having a little fun.

The Ceremony was at the beautiful St. Mary Basilica!

By sheer happenstance, fireworks at the local Christmas parade went off while they were kissing. Maybe we can forget about that other akward kiss now since this one was explosive!

The reception was at the Dunleith Plantation.

At the reception, we usually get one of the guest to catch a picture of us with the newly-weds. It took three guests to finally get a picture of us who happened to be a fellow Nikonian also.

We enjoyed hanging out with you two on your special day and hope you had fun in the Dominican Republic. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Stephen and I got to meet up with Jaime and Darren a couple of weeks ago for their engagement session. We had so much fun hanging out and getting to know these two. I can’t wait to photograph their awesome wedding in May!

Several weeks ago Tami and I were approached by Spry Magazine to take pictures of an inspiring healthier lives winner who was from Vicksburg, MS. Kimberly is a teacher at one of the local elementary schools and she is serving our community in a big way. Inspired by Michelle Obama’s “let’s move” campaign, Kimberly lost an incredible 89lbs! Her energy and enthusiasm has also spread to the class room where she has motivated the students to be more active as well as scholastically challenging them. When we first arrived, it was evident that her students just loved Ms. Rhodman! We were honored to have the opportunity to meet such a positive and influential woman that is improving Mississippi one step at a time.
