We all have to accept it at some point; winter is coming. For some this means it's time to put away the bike, for others it's time to switch the tires for winter riding (or pull out the winter bike). Since we opened 9yrs ago we have been helping get riders ready for winter.

This year we are adding a winter service package to help you keep your bike going through the extreme elements that Ottawa has to throw at it!

Winter Commuter package. $99

1. Get your bike ready - Includes Brake adjustment, Gear adjustment, Cleaning of drive train and lube, seals greased, lock lubricated and cables. (before Dec. 15)

2. Monthly Check-up and lube - Safety inspection, brake adjustment, gear adjustment, and lubrication (January, February, & before March 15)

Hunter Has Passed Away.

It saddens me to announce that Hunter A.K.A the shop dog passed away today. Hunter had beat the odds and managed to kick cancers ass for the last year. He stuck around long enough to get to know his new person (my son) Tadhg, and take some time off work for his last 2 months. He spent his last weekend spoiled as usual playing football, chasing squirrels and of course guarding his favourite person .

Choosing the right BMX

At this time of year we are often asked about the "right bike" for someone. There are a few easy tips to sizing up the right bike and here they are.

1. Price point. This is something that every one needs to consider. "Real" BMX bikes start at about $350 for a lighter weight beginner. Anything below the $350 price point is what we call a "BMX Style" bike: it may look the part but will not hold up to the abuse a bike will take while learning tricks. It's just as easy go too high end as well. Most "pro level" bikes are designed to be leight weight and will often use parts that are not as durable (but much Lighter) than what you would find on a mid or entry level bike!
2. Top tube (TT) length! If the rider is 4ft 6inches DO NOT PUT HIM ON A 21" top tube! The rider needs to be able to manoeuvre the bike quickly and be balanced over the bike! If the bike is too long they will never learn any tricks or even how to bunny hop. We can help select the right TT length for the rider so that they will learn quicker!
3. Sett-up:We will help set-up your bike for you! We can cut bars, move seats, and adjust a lot of little things to help tailor fit the right bike to you.
3. Colour will not help the rider learn or tricks or ride safely! Although everyone one wants there bike to look great, this should be the final choice factor. After we have narrowed the field, then decide which colour you like the best.
4. Listen to Joe Mamma, we know our stuff and we want to make sure that everybody is stoked on their new bike. If we suggest something (or suggest against) it's because we want to make sure that you can enjoy your new ride as safely as possible!

It's that time of year again. Time to depart for Las Vegas for Interbike. For those of you that don't know this is when I get to see all the latest goodies that you will see arriving in the shop shortly. This year we will be (b)logging the trip daily with all the blunders and more importantly the highlights of each day!

Today started off with getting up early to take hunter out for a morning run (more like playtime). Quick breakfast and coffee then off to the air port. Upon arrival I discovered that there was no record of my reservation..........Got that straightened out and it's off to Chicago then Vegas!

Made it to Chicago on one of the nastiest planes ever. To top it off someone sitting near me had something for breakfast that didn't agree with them and everyone sitting near the lavatory had to pay the price. Three hours in Chicago to taste their finest airport food and it is off on the final leg of the voyage for today.

Arrived in Vegas about 30 minutes late, met up with Ryan (my partner in crime for the week). Headed straight to the hotel for check-in (managed to score a great room upgrade). Off to the Casino.........

Group Rides!

Every Wednesday evening (6:30pm) we will be host our group rides. As everything we do we are tailoring these rides for those looking to have fun while riding there bike. Unlike most group rides we are going to focus on developing fitness, safety, and technique and not race! (if there is enough demand we will separate groups into 2 levels)

Want to take part here is what you will need:

-Road bike/High performance Hybrid
-Helmet (you can't join us with out one)
-Road smarts (we need everyone to ride safe-there will be traffic)
-Water
-Energy!

The Basics!

-Ride leaves 6:30 PM sharp!
-Call to verify (sometimes do to weather we will have to postpone)
-Rides through out the month of July will be mostly flat And range in distance from about 30-35kms
-Average speed will be around 28km per hour and increase as the level of riding increases (this is average speed over 35km not the actual speed)
-Basic road side assistance will be provided by group leader but you are responsible for you and your bike
