I’ve just spent 4 days in the USA attending the American Alliance of Museums conference 2013 in Baltimore, Maryland. It was an opportunity to catch up with museum and art gallery associates, spread the word about Monsters, and visit a range of interesting and diverse venues. I’m feeling a bit jet-lagged but very excited about future host venues for How to Make a Monster!

Melbourne Design escape

Wednesday night I attended a talk by some of the creative team on “Phryne Fisher Murder Mysteries”. Set in Melbourne in the 1920′s, it’s a stylish and enjoyable ABC Australian series with the second series currently in production. The event was organised by the Melbourne chapter of the Australian Production Design Guild. Speakers were Australian cinematographer Roger Lancer who has worked on all Kenneth Branagh directed films, and Emmy Nominated Costume Designer Marion Boyce. It was fantastic to get an insider’s view of the processes involved.

I took the opportunity to visit the National Gallery of Victoria ‘Ballet & Fashion’ exhibition on until 19 May. Also showing at the ACMI is the ‘Hollywood Costumes’ exhibition until 18 August – so much fun, art and education (& new boots) in just 2 days.

Koalas SOLD!

Congratulations to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation for a wonderful evening that saw almost all the Animals with Attitude Koalas sold. Valuable funds were raised for this wonderful cause to help rescue and nurse injured native animals. If you can visit Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary this weekend you’ll get to see all the Koalas together for the final time.

Congratulations also to all the artists that took part. Your work was outstanding and deeply loved by the public and your work’s new owners.

WoW, Gold Coast Film Festival – so much fun!

John & I held a Q&A with Noah Hathaway at the free screening of ‘The Neverending Story’ as part of the kids program of Gold Coast Film Festival 2013. He was so nice & gracious with his time, had his photo taken with everyone there, and gave us a real behind the scenes insight into the movie making process and of being a child to adult actor.

We joined in the Supanova Cosplay Parade, with the Star Wars 501st Legion, The Hoff & heaps of cool costumers. Too cool……… Love a dress up – well don’t miss the comedy film Lloyd the Conqueror tonight at 7pm with LARP (Live Action Role Playing) costumers to greet you from 6pm.

The Sushi Girl cast and crew were so lovely and the film is getting rave reviews so don’t miss the final screening Saturday 27 April at 1.15pm.

Hope to see you at Turkish film Beyond the Hill on Wednesday night.

Opening night of Gold Coast Film Festival 2013 was fantastic with many stars from this year’s films hitting the red carpet. Today’s seminars include Jason Trost & Lucas Till of All Superheroes Must Die showing How to Make a Movie with $20,000. They’ll be at the Qld premier of their film at 7pm tonight – Don’t miss it!

It’s followed by the writer, director, cast & crew of Sushi Girl introducing the Australian Premier of their film with a Q&A – be there! Graffiti artist, Cameron Smith, will be completing his GCFF artwork on the Sofitel building in Broadbeach today. Race down to see him in action. Inside you’ll find artwork by Chris Wahl as well as superhero sculptures from Studio Oxmox and works by Chris Grapulin.

Magnificent original drawings from the Japanese anime series Evangelion are at the Arts Centre GC, Bundall, until May 5. Entry is $5. 4pm this Friday you can hear Evangelion voice star, Yuko Miyamura, talk about her experience on the series. ‘Animals with Attitude’ Koalas are on their way to artists.

21 Koalas and 18 Artists are preparing for the inaugural Animals with Attitude Gold Coast Sculpture Trail.
