Driving with Uber

I've been driving with Uber. The area I drive in is pretty easy. I drive before work, after work and if I feel like it, I'll drive on a Saturday for a couple buck. The morning seems to be the time to earn money where I am. The county I'm in is spread out enough that where I live to where I work and therefore where others live and work, I can earn enough to fill my tank a gas for a week in just one to two trips.

If your interested in driving with Uber, please use my referal code:

Totally Stroking Calendar (Excellence Edition)

2018-01-12T08:30:00.000-06:00

The Totally Stroking Calendar is a tool you have been needing for many years now. It's true. Some people have the great idea of getting a calendar made from the almost forgotten product, paper and then put it somewhere and neglect to use it. Then March comes around or perhaps July and their $12.00 calendar is full of blank months and they realize their wasted months are wasted dollars.

This can be avoided with the Calendar mentioned here. All the months are blank. The Month Title and Dates are blank and ready for you to start using the calendar at any month, in any year. Just fill in the month and dates and start. If you are not confident you'll feel like using it in the future months, leave the future months blank. Start again when you are ready to.

Right now (January 12, 2018) the calendar is 40% off! PLUS through the 15th of January (2018) Lulu is allowing additional off and free ground shipping or 50% off better shipping using the Promo Code BOOKSHIP18 .

Take a look. For $7.00 or so, you could have a great calendar with 2 years of calendar. Plenty of room for notes for each month and pages of space specifically for notes in the back.

This is a story well worth reading! Check it out and be sure to read all the way to the end where it was clear that the reason this baby's life was spared is because it was wanted.

Later, Mrs. Royer’s mother, Raquel Bourgeois, said the family understood that the operation was not a cure, and that her grandson would almost certainly have some degree of disability.
“But we’re strong believers in God, and we’re at peace,” Mrs. Bourgeois said. “This baby is going to be so loved. We just don’t care.”

Don't Kill Ants (Unless they are a Pain) - Pyrion Flax

2017-10-13T08:09:00.000-05:00

The beginning of where I chose to start the video is where Pyrion Flax explains to his kid that ant genocide is bad, unless the ants are where you don't want them.

Obviously, humans are in dominion over animals... don't get confused.

This beautiful $250,000 Lamborghini is for sale at a huge discount of $7,300! It may need some work. For example, the carbon ceramic brake assembly has been removed and sold at auction. However, if you would like a Lamborghini and don't have quite enough for a new one, this one may be exactly what you are looking for.

Hire More Heroes Act of 2015

2015-01-08T09:22:00.000-06:00

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="350"] US Capitol Building[/caption]

My U.S. Congressman Sam Graves issued a statement yesterday (7th of January, 2015) on the passage of the Hire More Heroes Act (H.R. 22) This was the first time I heard of this House of Representatives bill and because I am trying to be more up to speed with my representatives, I decided to check this little (only 4 pages) bill. //My next post should and may be on Opencongress.org, govtrack.us and other websites that make knowing what is going on in Washington super easy and possibly fun//

This is not the first time that the House has tried to pass a Hire More Heroes Act bill. Rodney Davis (R IL 13th district) sponsored the same bill (H.R. 3474) (although it said "of 2014") in 2013, the 13th of November. This bill passed the House the 11th of March 2014. There was 1 "Nay" vote by Jerrold Nadler, a democrat from NY. It must have been a mistake because it passed almost unanimously. Of course there were 23 who did not vote at all, 8 Republicans and 15 Democrats. The bill then failed to pass the Senate. Govtrack.us has "Status: Died (referred to Committee)."

H.R. 22 is a bill "to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to exempt employees with health coverage under TRICARE or the Veterans Administration from being taken into account for purposes of determining the employers to which the employer mandate applies under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act." Sam Graves (R MO 16th district) said in his statement “Under Obamacare, small businesses are penalized for hiring more than 50 employees at full-time hours. This legislation exempts our veterans from this provision.”

The bill passed the House with 99% "Yea's" and 1% not voting but has a 15% chance of being enacted, according to some super cool method Govtrack.us uses to determine such things. Most likely it will die in the Senate again. However, if my Congressman Sam Graves thinks it is important (as well as one of my Senators Roy Blunt who was the sponsor last year), then I might as well watch it.

Visiting James Hartigan

2014-12-06T09:34:00.000-06:00

I took a trip to Mount Mora Cemetery thinking that James W Hartigan (for whom the house I am living in was built) would be buried there, however it turns out he is buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery. So the first five photos below were taken at Mount Mora and then the Hartigan photos and the Joseph Robidoux memorial photo were taken at Mount Olivet. It was a beautiful day to be at the cemeteries: all cold, wet and dreary.

I Killed a Squirrel (A Poem)

2013-06-03T14:11:00.000-05:00

It was the morning before Sunday Service, / My wife and I, the children with us. / There two playing all in a whirl, / One I killed, it was a squirrel.

"How sad," was what the mom had said, / It is indeed there lying dead. / An inquiry came from the rear, / "It's just a squirrel," said John sincere.

"True indeed," said I in haste. / "Yet, not even a squirrel's life should we waste." / "Not even if we needed food?" / That question, I thought was really good.

For how teach I our first born son / that life is important, everyone's? / Yet when it comes to what I like to eat, / I enjoy spinach, chicken, ham and beef?

Of course we are different from all other creatures, / and we all have many different features, / Yet we are not just to kill for fun / and we sure are sad when our pets lives are done.

One more lesson to teach our kids, / while we drive to places from where we live. / More things to think and stuff to unfurl, / all because I killed a squirrel.

Inspired by the drive to church, Sunday, June 2, 2013. Based on a true story.

Ghosts in the Bottle II

Oooh, Spooky!

Ghosts in the Bottle

2013-03-17T14:56:00.000-05:00

John boy is a pretty hard boy to trick. He has a Mickey Mouse magic book that I read when I was around his age and so I thought I would show him a trick our two. He had already figured out how to make a magic wand using construction paper. He had actually looked at the book, "read" the picture instructions and then put the book away and made the wand. It was pretty impressive.

So, I borrowed his wand and said that if it was real it would float. I put the wand against my left hand with my fingers open and wrapped my right hand around my wrist and the wand was floating! (Mystery revealed below). He was pretty amazed. He picked up the wand and opened his hand and the wand fell to the floor. I explained that since he was eating pizza, maybe his greasy hand couldn't make the wand stick. He accepted that and went on eating.

After he ate I was made to show him again. This time as the wand floated he realized that one of my fingers on my right had was not wrapped around my wrist as the others. Yup, I was holding the wand against my left palm with my right index finger. Busted.

Later in the evening I did something John boy can not explain away. I took a glass Coke bottle and put it in the freezer. After the boys bathed, I took out the bottle, set it on the table and put a penny on top. The whole evening I was telling John that we can catch a ghost in the bottle in the freezer... because that is where they hang out. While he took a bath I told him that ghosts were not real. He would ask how he would see a ghost later and I would say they are not real. Then he would ask how we could trap them in a bottle if they were not real, to which I would respond that he would have to wait and see. Fun times.

After the bath, the bottle in place, a ghost was mysteriously hitting the bottom of the penny trying to escape! I took a video... but it did not work for some reason. Maybe I will record it tomorrow night. Over and over again the ghost would hit the penny trying to get out. The boys thought it was pretty nifty.

For A Father

2013-03-14T06:11:00.000-05:00

Mr. John Clarke is a genius. If you do not know who he is click here. He read a poem on ABC National Radio on February 14, 2012 called For A Father by Anthony Cronin. I recommend that you listen to Mr. John Clarke read it aloud because of the way he describes it and so forth, but I have conveniently copy and pasted it here for you to read for yourself.

With the exact length and pace of his father’s stride
The son walks,
Echoes and intonations of his father’s speech
Are heard when he talks.
Once when the table was tall and the chair a wood
He absorbed his father’s smile
And carefully copied the way that he stood.
He grew into exile slowly
With pride and remorse,
In some way better than his begetters,
In others worse.
And now having chosen, with strangers,
Half glad of his choice
He smiles with his father’s hesitant smile
And speaks with his voice.

This is probably my favorite father poem, but I do not read much poetry.

Out of Debt

2012-03-06T09:57:00.000-06:00

Dave Ramsey's website listed 29 ways to leap out of debt the other day. Read them here and then list in the comments which ones you are already doing and the ones you are going to start doing.

I (we, my wife and I) am doing: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 (in a nice way), 8, 9, (10 - we have no car debt) 11, 12, 13, 14 (six years and counting), 15 (almost every day), 16, 16 1/2 (still investing :), 18 (and now am debt free except the house), 19, 20, 24, 26 ;), 28.

I will be doing 29 soon. The others don't really apply to me or I don't need to do them at this point in my life. There is one thing that I would consider if it did not scare me to death, was cheap or free, and if Bethany would let me and I knew I would jump. See video below:
