John,

What else to say that hasn't been said. I'd be remiss, though, if I didn't say goodbye. I found you a year or so after your transformation, googling 'Excel food charts' or some such. Was hooked from then on.

You became for me the gold standard of dedication and discipline. Your transparency brought those aspects to life in a most human and relatable way. I kept up with your daily posts, inspired by your daily grind for improvement. I mirrored this in my own life as best I could. My life is undoubtably better because of your efforts. So thank you and I hope you find the peace you're looking for.

John,

You've been an amazing mentor, friend,...family. You changed my life (like many others). If it weren't for your courage to put yourself out there I wouldn't be where I am today, Maya and I wouldn't be where we are today. I will be forever in your debt. Although I haven't been around much in recent years this has always been a place I have considered "home". It's gonna be weird not being able stop in anymore. I wish you (and everyone reading this) all the best with your current and future endeavors.

I'm gonna miss this place.

Let's keep in touch,

John,

I haven't been active on the site in some months--massive life changes going on. One of them being I'm training to be a personal trainer. I can honestly and sincerely say I wouldn't be doing that if not for you, this site, and the awesome people who came and went over the years. This was the an amazing community. The longest running internet "family" I've ever been a part of.

I'm in the best shape of my life, and that's due in no small part to your efforts. Good luck, and thanks!

Friends, I am so incredibly overwhelmed and touched. There's a whole lot more going on in my soul right now, but I can't find the words to properly express any of it.

I'm a deeply private person, and I still don't know how I put myself out there like this for almost 20 years. I've never been comfortable in the limelight, but y'all made the discomfort so very worth it. Now it's time for me to take that part of my life back. Everyone, without exception, has been super understanding and classy about my decision. For that I will alway be grateful. The decision to close JSF was excruciating.

You're all a part of my family—many of you for almost two decades—and JSF closing won't change that. Please keep in touch: john@johnstonefitness.com

I wish you all health and happiness! It's been one hell of an amazing journey.

Hey John,

I wasn't a very active member on this site however I did post several times on the forums and sometimes replies to blog posts, however couldn't remember my login! So I needed to create a new one.

Thank you John, I was 12 when I found your site... I'm 27 now. Honestly, you were one of the first resources I found on the Internet and ever since then I have poured over every one of your blog posts, recipes, articles and forums. You were quite possibly the sole reason and inspiration to me for my fitness journey that I've been on throughout the past 15 years of my life - and 12 to 27 seems like a lifetime in itself as you can imagine - even though you have an idea of how many people you inspired, you can never know the true impact this blog has had to thousands if not millions of people.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, John, for all you have done throughout the years. The time you put in to this site and what it became quite literally - and I don't say this without knowing how cliché it is but it can't be more true - changed my life. You taught me so much and inspired me to do so many things. You taught me fitness, diet, discipline and inspired me to pursue a career in software engineering and now cyber security. I also contacted you on facebook 5 years ago regarding my drug use... All it took was a simple few lines of encouragement from you, somebody I genuinly look up to, to end it right there: "I wish I stopped at 22!" you said to me, and I did. When it comes to fitness resources, whenever I talk to anybody, to this day I still recommend your site. This may seem a tad too heartfelt but you can't know the impact you've had, we all applaud you and love you and wish you all the best in life because you deserve it. Thank you again, John. You changed my life and although it's sad to see this site go down, I hope you're proud of everything you've accomplished. You're one of the special ones John!

Here's to you. I wish you and your family all the best. Tell Lisa I say hi!!

Don't remember how I found this place. Joined in 2011, looking to fix my overweight self. Participated in some discussions, read/learned a bunch, and made a couple friends. Last couple years I've been holding steady at 140-145 lbs, after hitting my high near 190. I have this forum, and the support of the members, to thank.

I’ve been visiting here since 2005. Back then I was still in high school! I remember the days when I would check in daily for john’s updates. He inspired my own transformation and initial weightloss. A remarkable community was created way before social media became a “thing”. Thank you John . Thank for inspiring myself and so many others for so many years and really putting yourself out there to the world. JSF May be gone but will never be forgotten.

Not much sentiment to add that hasn't already been said. Best wishes John, you were a trailblazer. All these youtube and social media fitness "influencers" can thank people like you for paving the way on the interwebs.

Will you be on any other platforms regularly?

Again, all the best.

John, what can I say. Came to the site in 2004 and like so many others it changed my life. After that it was so much fun to follow your different journeys, challenges, hobbies, interests and training. The ups and the downs you always shared it all. For that I’m very grateful. I haven’t used the forums for years, but often check back to the site to see if anything’s new. I’m glad I did so I got the chance to message my thanks. Enjoy. We’ll always have the thanksgiving tricep shot. :) Alex
