The second edition of Johnny Green and the Little Green Man has been launched! So awesome to 'feel the thrill' of this new ride with Tate Publishing Company.  Where has Johnny Green and the Little Green Man been you might wonder?  Sitting on a shelf collecting dust so to speak as what happens when nothing happens after a book is published without a good

Realizing my last post to my Johnny Green Books blog was a year ago...and looking at the beautiful wisteria in that photo, this year is a long shot, Spring is still just around the corner as we had a wintery mix last night. Promises, promises, to be a Spring weekend and hopefully the last teaser.  Barely any buds on the wisteria so far. My bet is we Spring right into Summer

Without a doubt! I'm positive now that April is my favorite month of the year! Warmer weather, trees budding and flowering, the gift of new life, all bring me back from the dull drums (doledrums?) of winter! Earth Day comes with a gently reminder to be kinder to our Earth as well - and of course Johnny Green and the Little Green Man comes back into the picture! More coming soon about Johnny!

Wowie!!!! I just love the HOPE of Spring! Everything comes back to life, including me! I told my husband yesterday that I'm not sorry to see winter go, even though we had a mild one, it is just too dreary and cold. Warm days ahead and everything coming up green! And with Spring, comes Earth Day, Earth Month and all the surrounding time that we get out and clean up! Update, update, update! Going

June & July have come and gone - temperatures sizzling upwards in the 80's and 90's, not to mention the humidity...too darn hot! Between a demanding job the last couple of months, the garden, and family visits plus a 'first in 20 years family reunion' in July - summer has just flown by and I've fallen way behind! Johnny's been sitting there...on the shelf (literally)...saying, "hey

Spring came and went, now into summer! This is a particularily exciting one for me. We expanded our garden this year, and watched as our labor started to grow. In between the two gardens we have a small patch of blackberry bushes. This year a cardinal family nested in the berries and as the buds turned to flowers to berries I kept thinking I hope they move before it's time to pick! As I picked

Darby, my sister-in-law, and I visited Charleen's shop, Green in the Blue Ridge in Lexington, VA over Memorial Day weekend. What a treat! We both came home with children's books made from elephant poo, recycled crayons, a stuffed dog made from recycled water bottles and admired all the other things in her shop made from recycled product! Check out her blog, www.greenintheblueridge.blogspot.com.

The day to plant has come and gone, the day to harvest is here! It is so exciting to pick the first of everything in the garden...we planted radishes this year for the first time in many and have already picked and eaten our fair share. Would they not have so much dirt on them, they wouldn't have made it to the table. The best, crisp and just hot enough. We've harvested our first broccoli,

I love everything about Johnny Green!! Today I spent time working on Book 3 in the Johnny Green Books series, but my first love in the Spring.... is my garden. You will find me spending hours on end on the weekends...working until I can't stand up straight anymore. We expanded our vegetable garden this year and I've planted some things I haven't for years because of the extra space, watermelon,

Earth Week 2010 started with the Grandin Village Earth Day 2010 Celebration, then on to visiting 6 schools and 2 libraries. I took the week off from my real job and jumped in feet first. I found the kids loved Johnny Green and the Little Green Man and sorting trash, as well as adults! I learned a big lesson during the week - -our children are being well educated about recycling already in our

This has proven to be an interesting week. And-that is-funny interesting I should add. I think small gifts are always the best and small they were. My first book signing...the prime location, a "green" shop owner in historic downtown Lexington, VA! Now anyone would think that a "green" book like Johnny Green and the Little Green Man would be the big hit, especially with the AUTHOR coming to a "

The winter days have wound down, (except for some places I hear), I hear the birds sing, the fragrances of Spring... "ALL THINGS NEW " surrounds us. Fleeting wisps of wisteria captivate me in the early evenings now, trees have come alive dressed in their Spring green, flowers popping up all around showing their silly faces. April is a big and exciting month...and especially for Johnny Green!

One thing I didn't understand when I decided to self-publish is there are so many options to choose from. I did know what I wanted and found a self-publishing company that offered the services I felt that met my needs at the time. I do have a clear understanding now in arears of all these options and realize I did do what was right for my book at the time, beginners luck I suppose. Consider

Wow! When I saw all the boxes last night I broke into a cold sweat! It seems like I've been waiting for this day for such a long time, and it's finally come! Just look at the tower of boxes. It's really exciting...the books are in my garage...just like other authors! Now to go through the list, one for this person, 10 for this shop, 6 for these libraires...I know I'll be down to a small box

I recently attended a Writers Conference and attended a session called the Art of Blogging. I thoroughly enjoyed her presentation and have decided to apply some of what I learned, or at least make an attempt. We are all writers and writing about something that we are passionate about is a good place to begin. I think that's what blogging must be all about. Reading others blogs, I find are always

How exciting it is to get the first interview, the first book signing and the first book store on board! In just a short time it seems like all of a sudden everything I have been working toward is beginning to fall in place. What a thrill it is to work toward a dream and finally see the fruit of it. This is just the beginning, we are still pre-selling our first order of 250 books, signed,

It is with both gladness and sadness that I write this entry. With gladness, Johnny Green and the Little Green Man is finally available! With sadness, our wonderful friend who so graciously endorsed Johnny's book passed Friday, Dec 18th, just a day from approving the final galley of Johnny Green. Taking a step back or considering what is done and gone is not always a bad thing. It's a reminder of how far you have come, what you've learned and helps you refocus on where you are headed. I've had to do this over and over with Johnny Green and the Little Green Man and now that I'm becoming comfortable with how many steps back I've had to take, the light at the end of the tunnel is finally

Johnny Green is available on the Xlibris Website Bookstore as of today! What a thrill it was to see it there! This will be a limited time offer as, my boy Johnny, is going back to production for a facelift - already. As you may notice from my recent entry, considerable time has lapsed since my entry of June 9th. There was some jumping ahead and trying to meet a deadline that wasn't practical -

I found this website today, http://www.jacketflap.com/, a GEM! It is like facebook for children's authors, illustrators, agents, publishers, teachers, librarians, and more. If you are looking for a network there are over 6,500 + authors that live out there alone. I can tell it will be a wonderful resource and can't wait for something really cool to happen. Thought I'd share this with you as you

Just a short note....today was another landmark day! I received the last draft of Johnny Green and the Little Green Man to approve. On breaks (in the midst of training for a week) and at lunch time, I busied myself with reviewing the final corrections that had been made to Johnny Green. He sits perfectly complete somewhere in the Xlibris files waiting to go to print for the first time...the
