2. Use the Username and Password that was emailed to you from Social Tuna.

Create a Site

1. Go to Dashboard > My Sites.
2. Click Create a New Site.
3. Using lower case letters and no spacing, type the domain of the new site in the 'Site Domain:' text box. For example, yourbusiness which will read like yourbusiness.socialtuna.com
4. Using upper and lower case letters and spacing, type the title of the new site in the 'Site Title:' text box. For example, Your Business.
5. In the 'Privacy' section, leave the 'Yes' radio button selected.
6. Click 'Create Site'.
7. You are now ready start managing the site.

Create a Page

1. Go to Pages > Add New.
2. Create a title and start editing and click 'Publish' when done.

Create a Category

1. Go to Posts > Categories.
2. Type the name of the category as you would see it on the site.
3. Click 'Add New Category' when done.

Manage Widgets

1. Go to Appearance > Widgets.
2. The primary widget for all sites will be the 'Social Profiles' widget.
3. Drag the widget to the 'Sidebar' on the right.
4. Fill in the 'URL' text box for the corresponding link; ie, Facebook and Twitter.
5. Click 'Save'.

Create a Menu

1. Go to Appearance > Menus
2. To create a custom navigation menu, type in a name for it (only you will see this). Use 'Primary' as the name because it will be easier to manage.
3. Click 'Create Menu'.

Add Pages to the Menu

1. Adding pages to your menu is as simple as checking the proper boxes for the pages you want and then clicking ‘Add to Menu’.

Add Category Pages to the Menu

1. All posts will appear on your main posts page, but you can also create category pages that only display posts that you’ve designated with a specific category.
2. Simply check the box of the categories for which you want to create a page, and click ‘Add to Menu’.

Be sure to click ‘Save Menu’ each time you make changes to your custom menu.

The website is a place where children can go to submit an essay on what they and their country can do to help stop climate change. Every month we will pick four of the best essays. The child who wrote it will receive a $100 prize.

The website needed to be able to grow with its expected popularity. This was achieved by implementing WordPress as a content management system. WordPress also allowed us to make the site completely dynamic. After submitting an essay, children will receive an automated email with a dynamically generated PDF file which is their certificate of participation. We can easily track where essays are coming from and store the data. We can then run database reports and send the entries to our judges located around the world.

This project has been a labor of love because it demonstrates the power and potential of the world wide web to unite communities all over the world.

Owner, Penny Besmond, hired a web designer to give her a presence on the internet. However, when the designer finished, the website was less than adequate for public viewing. Many of the links were broken. The design and layout was poor and did not convey a sense of professionalism. Lastly, you could not find Pen Pal Travel anywhere when doing a Google search.

Jon Ellis Design was hired to step in and do a complete redesign. The result is a more eye catching design achieved through better color usage and textures. Individuals can now find Pen Pal Travel in Google. When doing a search for medical travel companions, Pen Pal Travel is the third ranked site. Lastly, prospective clients can contact Penny directly through the site with the use of an online contact form.

John approached me with the idea of taking his entire music catalog and putting it online for the public to listen to and purchase. His old site was a relic. You had the ability to listen to music, but had to stream it using Windows Media Player or Real Player. Managing the content of the site was difficult because one had to be familiar with coding in HTML and CSS.

My solution was to implement a content management system using WordPress and utilize the e-Commerce Plugin from Instinct. Users will have the ability to listen to all of John’s music and then purchase a digital download of the song or album. John will be able to update the site regularly by interfacing with WordPress’s easy to use Dashboard. At his leisure, John may upload music and blog about it’s story all while potential customers listen to the music.

Sabache

Sabache is a safari eco-lodge and resort in Kenya. Students submitted designs for their travel brochure.

The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art

The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art features the artwork of Eric Carle’s classic children’s books. The museum also features artwork by various other children’s books. This pamphlet is a prototype of what would be distributed to visitors.

A Break in the Clouds

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Mississippi’s heroic teachers are tasked with supporting Katrina’s youngest survivors. A Break in the Clouds is a documentary by Franco Sacchi and Aimee Corrigan. I designed this poster as a prototype to be displayed at the film screening.

The Spirit

The Spirit was a December 2008 movie based upon the graphic novel. Lionsgate held a contest to design a greeting card which would be distributed at the theater opening night of the movie. My submission was one of three finalists. Unfortunately, it did not win; however, its a nice feather in the cap.

Wild Life

Wild Life is a fictitious second-hand store in Boston. I designed this magazine advertisement for the store.

The client wanted a site with a soft look that portrayed the essence of the practice. Along with the new look, the site needed to be updatable and a revenue generator. WordPress was implemented as the content management system to address the need for eCommerce. At Emei Qi Gong Chan a visitor can check the schedule for classes and seminars. If they would like to participate in any activity they can add it to their cart and checkout via PayPal. Visitors can also subscribe to the site’s RSS feed to receive latest news and events. The site was recently published and the client is already seeing increased revenue and site activity.

The Boston Camerata required a site that was aesthetically pleasing, easily updatable and a revenue generator. The elegant look of the site was achieved by working closely with fellow designer, Mariah Gale. Dynamic content is driven by a WordPress blog by which they can publish latest news and events. Lastly, the site is integrated with PayPal to collect payment for their CDs.
