The day we took these it was very stormy outside, we used the covered area on a patio because the house we were at was filled with people.  The pictures of the twins turned out great, and the kids were very happy to do whatever we told them to.  Of course, since they can’t talk yet, they really had no choice.

First, take a look at this “Long Portrait” of Jackson and Riley (it’s about a minute and half long).  I dare you not to smile while watching it.

This last one is of Dad and the twins. We took some of the family as well of course, but this one of proud Daddy and the two twins I just thought I had to share.

The interesting thing is I’m not sure if it worked.  I try to do “street” photography often, but I don’t think I’m that good at it.  I need much more work to get good at it.  It feels so out of control for me.  I like to have more control of my lighting, and composition, and ideas.  The idea was to try push myself a bit.  I think if you don’t do that occasionally in everything you do, you will not move forward.

No matter what you do, take a day every once in a while and push the edge. Try something new.  Make yourself uncomfortable.  Try to fail even.

It is in your mistakes that creativity happens. I don’t care what you do, or what you are working on.  If you want to be truly creative at it, you must be in a position to make mistakes.  You must capitalize on those mistakes.  If you are not, then get out there.  Make yourself uncomfortable.  Fail.

Okay, enough of that.  Here are a few photos I took at the fair.  Click on them to see them larger.  I was not overly successful at the people pictures, I failed there.  I think I learned some things though, so it was worth it.

A few weeks ago we were with the Macdonald’s in LA, and we had 10 minutes to spare and I had my camera.  We had been looking for a time to do a family portrait session so we figured why not now.  They are a great family and very good friends.  They were the first ones to invite us to their house when we moved to Newbury Park as a matter of fact.  The light was perfect, the family was fun.

I would have expected the kids to not be too happy about the unexpected “session”, they did a great job.  Thank you all for letting me take these photos, it was very fun for me.  In addition, we all went to Tito’s Tacos after this so the night was complete!!

Below is a slide show of my favorite pictures of the week. There is a good combination of landscapes, portraits, and scenery type things.  A week of vacation means a week with my camera to me.

The first thing to look at is the “Long Portrait” or  Moving Portrait below.  I think it gives you a great feeling for the personalities and the fun they have as a family. They are a bit crazy.

Anyway – the day was great. They are so loving, and are so happy. The crowd that showed up was very, very large for such a “low key” affair.  They are both very loved by many, many people.  The weather was perfect, the setting was great, the food was tasty, the day couldn’t have been better.

I took the picture above at the 50th Wedding Anniversary Party we had for him and my mom.  At that weekend shin-dig we ran a 5K, watched movies, ate ALOT of food, watched old TV shows, watched slide shows, played games, rode in a limousine, ate out, and ate some more. Fun was had by all.

We had almost the entire family there.  We were missing only 2 people which is pretty cool when you think about how big our family is.  See them all right here . . .

The funnest part for me in taking the photo above was also taking a “long portrait”.  I really like the long portrait concept, you can see the personalities of everyone involved a bit more.  No one really knew what was going on, I just told them to stand still for 60 seconds. The laughing and talking just happened on it’s own.  Very fun.  Take a look below.  I would love to take these of anyone and everyone.  I think 30 – 40 years from know this is going to be more treasured then the still photos.  I could be wrong, but I never am.
