Genesis 6-8 describes the events of the worldwide flood. The Bible says that God called the animals into the ark that He had instructed Noah to build. He called them in sets of seven and in sets of two. Jesus said you have not chosen me, but I have chosen you (John 15:16).

In the ark was everything they would need. They had provision, protection and preservation from death. The Ark was a symbolism of salvation and the same way that God chose to save them He has chosen to save us.

God gave Noah specific instructions on how to build the ark. Part of these instructions contained specifications for a window that would be built 18″ from the roof of the ark. This is the approximate distance from your head (roof) to your heart (window). Interestingly enough, after it had stopped raining, Noah sends out two birds from this window. These birds were similar in appearance, but different in nature.

In Exodus chapter 4 we find that God ask Moses a question. He asked Moses, “What’s In Your Hand?”. Anytime the one that knows all and sees all ask a question like this it is worth some attention. God clearly knew that answer to His question. He asked this question simply to reveal something not only to Moses, but to us.

The simple answer to this question was the one Moses gave. He had his rod in his hand. But truly it was so much more than that. His rod represented who he was. As a shepherd of his father-in-laws sheep, it was an essential tool of the trade and one that his livelihood depended on.

Have you ever had something consume you to the point that you could not focus on your day? Perhaps it even consumed you to the point that you couldn’t even sleep.

Worry can be defined as an ongoing preoccupation with past or future events. Worry and anxiety stem from thoughts of “if only…” and “what if…”.

Worry might occur today, but its really about yesterday or tomorrow. And when we focus on yesterday or tomorrow, it steals our today.

The interesting thing about our minds is that whether we are reliving a past negative event or thinking about things that ‘could’ go wrong in the future, our bodies react as if the event were ‘actually happening’ in the present.

Many people want God to supernaturally remove their worry. But the way to remove worry and receive the peace of God is by acting on His Word.

When we look at the life of David its as though we can not help but focus on Goliath. After all, David has been known as the giant slayer. Its kind of like peanut butter and jelly, salt and pepper, Batman and Robin or Tom and Jerry. Its seems like you can’t have one without the other.

In this message, the focus is not on Goliath, but more so on the lion and the bear that David defeated before Goliath. I propose that the lion and the bear are what prepared David for Goliath.

It seems like we all want to conquer and do great things (Goliath). But in order to do the great thing that God has called us to do we are going to need to confront the lions and bears in our lives.

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

With faith we believe God for what it is that we are expecting from Him. The same way that with faith you believed God for your salvation, anything else you are expecting from God will also be received through faith.

Satan is an imitator. But since his nature is the total opposite of Gods, his imitation are also the total opposite of God’s nature. For example, John 10:10 says, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Here Jesus speaking of Satan (thief) says that he wants to steal, kill, and destroy you, but that He longs that you may have life, and life more abundantly. As an imitator Satan wants to give, but what he wants to give is the total opposite of what God has for you.

So if with faith I can believe for what God has for me that must mean that with fear and doubt I can believe for what Satan has for me. Fear is the opposite of faith. In Hebrews 11:1 we can see not only the definition of faith, but also of fear. If faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen, then fear is the substance of  things not hoped for, the evidence of things seen. Fear is the opposite of faith and so if with faith I can grab a hold of what God has for me, then with fear I can grab hold of what the devil has for me.

The concept of “following Jesus” is found all throughout the gospel. Following Jesus is what makes us His disciples. As disciples of Christ we are followers of Christ.

This concept though is more of a spiritual one, then a physical one. When Jesus told people to follow him His request was concerning the proximity of their hearts, more so than their physical bodies.

We find in the 14th chapter of the book of Mark that after they took Jesus to be tried and crucified that Peter continued to follow Jesus but he continues to follow at what the Bible calls, “a distance”. Sometimes we can continue to follow Jesus, but we follow at a distance. Following Jesus at a distance led Peter to the wrong place, with the wrong people and eventually caused him to do the wrong thing.

The marriage relationship is under tremendous attack. Many relationships are ending unsuccessfully and so many are not even starting due to how unsuccessful so many have been.

I believe the reason for this attack is because the marriage relationship exemplifies our relationship with Christ. When people look at your relationship it should immulate that of Christ (bridegroom) and his church (bride).  If the enemy can destroy the institution of marriage then he can destroy one of the pictures on the earth that point the lost to Jesus.

As humans we love to push the limits. We want to see how far we can go without it affecting us.

Daredevils make a living off of pushing the limits and living on the edge. We love to watch them cheat death. Their ability to live on the edge and not get hurt fascinates us.

Think about it….when you drive you want to see how fast you can go without getting a ticket, at school you want to know what grade you have to get to pass, in a relationship you want to know how far you can go without it being too far.

As exciting as “the edge” may appear to be it is a dangerous place to live.
