The next week we broke a motor at the Lucas Oil race at Attica. Changed motors the day after and I had one of my best runs ever at Eldora when I charged from 12th to finish 2nd at the Baltes Classic.
Three days off to prepare for the biggest dirt race in the county, the World 100. We struggled on night one trying to catch up to the slick racing surface and missed the feature. Qualified 18th quick out of 113 racers on Friday, won the b-main but pulled off in the feature. And then the big show on Saturday was exactly deja vu from one year ago. In the fifth heat race running 2nd with three laps to go when a late caution double file restart haunted me once again. I lost traction on the inside lane and got scuffled back to 5th in one turn. I missed making the World 100 once again, so exhausted and frustrated but realization sunk in of how grateful I am for the opportunity just to be so close…
This sport is a rollercoaster of ups and downs but one thing that is always constant is the support of family, friends, fans, and sponsors that are always behind you no matter what, and that’s something to be proud of!
The last few weeks would not have been possible without the help of my family and friends. Also big thanks to CJ Rayburn, Keith Berner of Accu-Force Shock Service, Steve Fultz of Fultz Fabrication, Dean Miracle, and the entire Mean Fifteen!

Attica Raceway Park (08-24-13) The Summit Racing Equipment UMP Late Model feature was a dandy as Ada, Ohio’s Jon Henry slid past race-long leader Ryan Missler on the last lap to get his second win of the season. Missler would wrap up his fifth consecutive track championship. It is Henry’s 13th career feature win at Attica.
“I had my work cut out. Ryan was really good and I had nothing to lose there on that last lap…I had to give it a shot. I hope I gave him enough room. So many people to thank this week. Fultz Fabrications…I spent a hard couple days there. I got probably five hours of sleep every night. This is a new Rayburn Race Car and I’m happy to get into victory lane for them and thanks to Dean Miracle for helping put this deal together. I have to thank Keith Berner at Accuforce. I spent a day with him to really go through the car and here we are in victory lane,” said Henry beside his Mean 15 – Fultz Fabrications, Henry Farms, Mike and Sheila Keller, Truman Quarter Horses, Lehman & Lehman, Norada Lanes, Associated Plastic, Home Savings and Loan, William H. Bass Trucking, Ron Spencer Real Estate, Jim Weber Motorsports, Automated Transport, In Memory of Darrell Kirsch, Re-Deck of Northwest Ohio, and Fremont Speedway backed machine.]]>
Eldora Speedway: (07-23 / 07-24)
History was made at Eldora Speedway for the MudSummer Classic where the NASCAR truck series hit the dirt after a nearly 40 year absence. An invitational race for 20 Late Model teams was tagged on to this special night and I was honored to be a part of that select group. We were able to finish 7th both nights in the Keith Berner Bud’s car #18. The Mud Summer Classic was an awesome deal to be a part of and just really neat to see NASCAR back on the dirt. Not only did this sold out event get raving reviews but it also directed a lot of attention to dirt racing as a whole. I’m really excited for opportunities the future holds for our sport and I’m really proud to say that Eldora Speedway is the track that has defined my racing career!
My first night piloting Keith Berner’s Accu-Force, Mean Fifteen, MasterSbilt, Bud’s car #18. A highly anticipated opportunity that I’ve been really looking forward to for many years. 40 Late Models in attendance at Attica. We qualified 2nd quick in group three. Started outside front row of the third heat race. It was a side by side battle with Jeep Van Wormer the entire race as I managed to pull off the heat win by just a nose at the line. We then started 4th in the feature and after a rougher than normal 40 laps I maintained my position and brought the #18 back to the pits with a solid 4th place finish. For our first night together and my first time ever in a MasterSbilt I’d say we had an excellent night!
Once again behind the wheel of Keith Berner’s #18 Machine. $10,000 on the line for the final stop of the 2013 UMP Summer Nationals “Hell Tour”. Qualified 2nd quick in group two. Started outside front row of the second heat race and maintained my position for a 2nd place finish. Started 6th in the 66 lap main event. This race was about patience and taking care of your equipment. I struggled with the racecar for the first 20 laps riding around in 5th place. A caution on lap 22 allowed me to regroup and when we went back green I’ll really started to feel comfortable. I worked my way up to 2nd with about 15 laps to go and as the race continued caution free, 1st place Matt Miller was nowhere in sight. I took the checkered flag and settled with a very respectable runner up finish.
…What a weekend. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to race Keith Berner and George Rodler’s awesome racecar!]]>
Started 27th and finished 13th in my first appearance in Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora Speedway. After an up and down weekend, qualifying 3rd quick out of 84 cars with a time of 15.430. My fastest lap ever recorded around the 1/2 mile which locked me into a provisional for the Dream if needed. It was very frustrating not racing night 1 & 2 on Thursday and Friday but I did not want to risk tearing up the only car and motor I had when I was in the show for $100,000 on Saturday…Regardless I’m grateful to have been in the big race, logged laps, finished the race, and proved that we can be fast in the right situation…Most importantly I would like to thank everyone that stopped by to said hi. It was great to see a lot of friends and meet a lot of new ones. Puts everything into perspective as to why we do what we do.
The “Dr Javis Modifed Double Dare” featured two complete modified shows in the same night. We started 7th in the first feature event and I was able to race up to a 2nd place finish behind race winner Jeff Babcock. We then started 3rd in the second feature and I was able to take the lead early to go on to claim our first modified feature win of 2013! Big thanks to Miracle Motorsports for letting me wheel their number 23J Buzzard Modified.
Eldora Speedway Release: (05-04-13)
In the Modified feature, Ada’s Henry started on the outside pole and vaulted past inside pole sitter Brandon Vaughan of Spencerville. Henry and Wapakoneta’s Jerry Bowersock recreated their duel from Limaland Motor Sports Park on Friday night when the two battled in that Modified feature. Henry edged out Bowersock for that win, too.
Bowersock appeared to take the lead with two laps left when Henry slowed on the front stretch, but got back on the gas in Turn 1. Henry said he thought a caution came out but realized it hadn’t when Bowersock shot past him. Fortunately for Henry a caution did come out before Bowersock could click off the lap. Without the completed lap the lead reverted back to Henry.
He kept it this time with a two-lap shootout despite another caution on the white flag lap. Bowersock tried to peek under Henry on the final turn but was too far behind to pull off a slide job.
The Modified win was the first for Henry at Eldora since winning two straight on June 4 and June 28 in 2008. It was his fifth Modified win overall at Eldora.
“It’s absolutely awesome to be back here in Victory Lane at Eldora,” Henry said. “I have to thank Miracle Motorsports and Dean and Jane for letting me wheel this race car. We’re having fun out here. I’m just blessed to be able to do this.”
(Attica, OH) After an edge-of-your-seat, race-long duel with Jeep VanWormer, Ada, Ohio’s Jon Henry was able to pull away on a couple of late race restarts to take the Sunoco American Late Model Series win at Attica Raceway Park on True Value of Woodville/Merrill Lynch/Columbus Equipment Night.
The 30-lap late model main featured a tremendous battle the entire distance between Henry, Brian Ruhlman, Jeep Van Wormer and a charging Matt Miller who stormed from his 18th starting spot to be a contender at the end.
“I earned that one tonight. I tell you what, this is emotional for me. I have a lot of people supporting me and one individual in particular, Darrell Kirsch…I wanted to win one for him,” said Henry Beside his Mean 15 – individuals and businesses that sponsored his #15 this season. “It’s tough…I’ve been thinking about him and I’m thinking about Kent Robinson, a fellow racer who lost his dad today. I raced that race for them.”
Henry said it was “heart” that got him to victory lane. “I just got up on the wheel and said I’m not letting this one slip away…I let the last one slip away, I’m racing my ass off,” he said. “You’d better be elbows up when Jeep’s around. I knew what I had to do to win this race and it was either wreck or win. I have to thank my dad, John; he busts his butt for me.”
Henry thanked his “Mean 15” sponsors of Fultz Fabrications, Henry Farms, Mike and Sheila Keller, Truman Quarter horses, Lehman & Lehman, Norada Lanes, Associated Plastic, Home Savings and Loan, William H. Bass Trucking, Ron Spencer Real Estate, Jim Weber Motorsports, Automated Transport, In Memory of Darrell Kirsch, Re-Deck of Northwest Ohio, and Fremont Speedway.

Third quick in group four. Started 2nd the heat and lead most of the race until a late side by side battle with Austin Hubbard. I was unable to hang on to the top spot and settled in for 2nd place finish. Started 8th in the feature, was rolling good until 10 laps to go when my right rear shock broke. It was difficult to maintain but I was still able to finish the race in 15th. All in all it was a great weekend to finally get back behind the wheel. I feel like we showed a lot of potential and will continue to improve from here on out.
