Fall Wedding Inspiration

Here's a little bit of inspiration for a fall wedding. From Kristy's wedding hair, make-up, and pearls, to her bouquet and wedding gown. Kristy and Josh got married on a beautiful fall day! They even had a great time playing in the leaves in their wedding gown and tuxedo after the wedding ceremony and reception.

Diana and Adam got married at All Saints Catholic Church on September 25, 2011, and their reception was at Rothchild Catering. It was a beautiful fall day, and her colors were orange and white.....not to mention there was a University of Tennessee football game that day! Flowers were by Echelon Florist.

Diana surrounds herself with children, and the children who are an important part of her life also shared in her special day. Each one was cute as a button!

What is a trash the dress session? Momma would cringe at the thought….

Your mother would cringe at the thought, and your grandmother would most likely pass out…..if they knew you were considering a “trash the dress” session. But what exactly IS a trash the dress session, you ask?

It’s one of the latest trends in wedding photography that more and more brides are doing after their wedding. Let us emphasize the word “after” your wedding. Because a trash the dress session has the potential for being exactly what it sounds like.

Rather than preserving your wedding gown in a plastic vacuumed bag after your wedding, trash the dress sessions give brides the opportunity to put back on their gowns and have some fun!

Trash the dress sessions also let brides get really creative and unique photos in their wedding dress, doing things they wouldn’t normally do on their wedding day for fear of getting their gown dirty or wrinkled.

Are you cringing at the thought of a trash the dress session with your own gown? No worries! You can also get a wedding gown at a local thrift shop, or check out the $99 gown sales at bridal shops.

The gown you use doesn't have to fit perfectly...you'll be trashing it anyways, and getting great photos while you're doing it!

Trash the dress photos can take place anywhere. And the best thing about it is: you don’t actually have to “trash” your dress!

Here are a few ideas (from moderate to extreme):

You can take trash the dress photos in a lake, pond, fountain, beach, or swimming pool. You will get great photos of your wedding dress submerged, and floating in the water. And don’t worry mom, depending on the fabric of the dress, it can be dry cleaned after the photo shoot.
You can take trash the dress photos in a field, riding horseback, riding a motorcycle, in an alley downtown, or at a carnival.

You can take photos in a muddy area next to a stream, lake, or on a farm. The mud on your dress and flying through the air make really creative photographs.

If you don’t mind literally “trashing” your dress, you can get a few cans of paint and have some fun splashing around. Trash the dress sessions with paint on your white dress always make super-colorful photos.

And to add a touch of your personality to your trash the dress session, you could wear your favorite funky shoes and accessories. Converse all-stars, doc martins and fish net stockings, hiking boots, roller blades, your favorite scarf, his favorite tie, and more!

{Corey + Jason's Trash The Dress Session}

We were so excited when Corey and Jason contacted us and said they were considering a trash the dress session in the French Broad River the day after their wedding in Hot Springs, NC.

Since trash the dress sessions are a fairly new concept to brides and they are "few and far between," we were ready to pack up our camera bag, swim suits, towels, and drive to Hot Springs that day! Click here to learn more about trash the dress sessions.

We had a great time photographing Corey and Jason, and they got some super-unique and creative wedding photos and memories for the rest of their lives. Here are a few favorites!

{Corey + Jason = Married!}

Corey and Jason got married at the Mountain Magnolia Inn in Hot Springs, NC, September 18, 2010. Corey and Jason were very eco-conscious in planning their wedding. Their invitations, table numbers, and menus were all hand-made from recycled paper. Their wedding flowers were created by a local Hot Springs floral designer, and the flowers were grown and hand-picked from her back yard the morning of their wedding.

They also had a "ring warming" before the ceremony where guests could take a moment to pray over the wedding rings and bless their marriage. In addition, Corey and Jason's unity ceremony included soil from each of their hometowns mixed with soil from their new life together in Philadelphia, PA.

It was a beautiful Fall wedding in the mountains of North Carolina! Congratulations Corey and Jason!

Julie and Casey were married at the Tellico Village Yacht Club in Loudon, TN. The Yacht Club is such a beautiful wedding venue, with a dock overlooking the water. And it was a beautiful day for a wedding! DJ and lighting was provided by Ogle Entertainment and Ambiance Light Design.

Cynthia and Gary got married on September 5 at RT Lodge in Maryville, TN. RT Lodge is a beautiful wedding venue, and Cynthia's attention to detail was amazing. From her beaded belt to the the matching stones in her bouquet and hair...from the ceremony table to the place settings and place cards....from the wedding cake to the favors....everything was perfect!

DIY Wedding Shoe Idea

Now here's a cute DIY wedding idea! Brooke, the bride at one of the recent weddings we photographed this summer, took off her shoes (after we had been outside walking in the dirt), laid them on the table and began writing "I DO" on the bottom of each shoe. We had to share this cute idea for all the brides out there looking for something different to do on their wedding day!

Pellissippi Hot Air Balloon Festival: Balloon Glow!

We went to the Pellissippi State Hot Air Balloon Festival this evening, and the balloon glow was amazing! They are having a balloon glow tomorrow night too! If you live in or near Knoxville, TN, be sure to go to the festival tomorrow. They are also offering tethered balloon rides...a perfect opportunity for family or engagement pictures! Restaurants and vendors are also there, selling kettle corn, hot dogs, and the most amazing ribs!

Melissa + Aaron = Married!

Melissa and Aaron got married at the Blue Mountain Mist Country Inn & Cottages in Sevierville, TN. Located in the Great Smoky Mountains, the Blue Mountain Mist provided a beautiful wedding backdrop for anyone looking for an elegant country, or shabby chic wedding. Melissa planned each detail, down to personalized fans in each seat at the ceremony, and the escort card "candy" poster show below. Everyone had a great time, and danced away into the night!

Each table at the reception had a candy theme. Melissa and Aaron created an poster with each persons name, and each person sat at the table based on their assigned candy (Skittles, Ring Pops, Spree, etc.).

{Behind the Camera: Who we are and what we do}

Last weekend, we photographed Brooke and Derek's wedding at Butterfly Gap retreat. It was a beautiful day, and a such a perfect place for their wedding....not to mention a beautiful bride and handsome groom! As we were photographing their special day, we realized many people don't know who we are or what we do throughout the wedding day. So, we wanted to give you the scoop!

Who is JoPhoto? Joe is the photographer, and Kathleen is his assistant (also his fiance). Joe spends the entire day of your wedding behind the camera. He focuses on getting the perfect pictures, in the perfect spots, in the right angles, with the right lighting, etc. Kathleen helps coordinate photos, the flow of your wedding photography throughout the day, and works closely with the bride and groom to make sure they get all of the photos they want, in the style that they want (see our blog post about various types of wedding photography). How do they do it? We work with each couple to make sure we know what style of photography they like. Many couples vary in their wedding photography styles and have different expectations, so we always meet with the bride and groom before their wedding to make sure we are all on the same page. It's your wedding day, so we want make sure you get the type of pictures YOU want! Plus, if you have special photo requests or a list of "must have" photos, feel free to let us know....we take pride in your satisfaction with your wedding photos. There is nothing better to us than hearing from a happy bride and groom who love their wedding photos!

Where is JoPhoto? Joe and Kathleen are based in Knoxville, but we travel across East Tennessee, from Chattanooga to Bristol to Memphis and everywhere in between!

What do we do when we're not photographing weddings? After every wedding, it takes many, many hours of editing photos. Joe goes through thousands (literally thousands) of photos and edits each photo one-by-one. Then, he picks the best ones and makes a few different versions (color, black and white, antique, etc.). So, when a couple receives their completed photos on a disk, they also have various versions of the best ones!
