LinkedIn Profiles for Authors

How to Use Your LinkedIn Profile to Promote Yourself and Your Books

Your LinkedIn profile is an important tool for promoting yourself and your books. It can be used to connect with potential readers, publishers, and other professionals in the industry. With a few simple steps, you can maximize your profile’s visibility and create an effective platform for promoting your work.

Book authors can use their LinkedIn profile page as a wonderful way to market their book, their ideas and build a following for their current and future books. The days of writers only working on their novels, books, and short stories are long over. Every publisher now requires their signed authors to get a following, and self-published authors can get thousands of readers and even big contracts if they have a following, a platform. A great way to supercharge your author platform is with a simple, free LinkedIn writer profile.

The number one question in the LinkedIn Book Writers Group is, “How do I build a platform?” This is asked in different ways, such as: How can I get more sales? How do I get noticed by publishers? How do I get people to read my book? It all has to do with building a platform. This is for fiction and non-fiction writers, although they get two different things from their platforms.

Fiction writers building a platform can get sales of their books, interaction with readers, and even a publishing deal based on their following. Non-fiction writers, especially business writers, can get business deals from their platform, not just book sales.

Why Use LinkedIn Profiles as a Platform?

The first thing we need to address is the power of LinkedIn to help book writers build their platforms. Why does it work, and why should you use it? LinkedIn is a very powerful marketing tool inside and outside of LinkedIn. Inside LinkedIn, you get seen by people searching keywords, contacts in your network, and many more.

LinkedIn even has an external internet influence, which means outside of LinkedIn, such as with search engines. For example, when I type my name on Google, I get around one million hits, and my LinkedIn profile is on top, ranked number one in the search. It’s up there even before my personal website or my Amazon books or Amazon profile. If my LinkedIn profile is not up to par, people looking for me will be disappointed. That’s why you need to update your LinkedIn profile and use the correct catchphrases and keywords. Imagine if a big-time book agent or publisher is googling your name, and they can’t find you. Or if they find your LinkedIn profile with a funky picture, your book titles are not listed, and you don’t have any biography in your description. They might think it’s another person or move on, or they might think you don’t know how even to start building a platform and look for the next person on the list.

We currently have more than 80,000 members in the LinkedIn Book Writers Group. Only around 15% of the profiles I’ve seen are fully finished, let alone tailored for their target audience. You need to complete 100% of your LinkedIn profile and tailor it to the people you would like to read your books, in other words, your target market.

How do I set up my LinkedIn author platform?

When setting up your LinkedIn profile, you must first complete the 100% meter to an All-Star level. This is how LinkedIn guides you through completing your LinkedIn profile. After this is complete comes the actual work: ensuring everything in the description and title of your profile is targeted towards your target audience, the people who will buy and read your book.

Your main tools for this are:

Your Professional Headline

Your LinkedIn Summary

Other tools are:

Photo

Background photo

Industry

Projects

Publications

Recommendations

For this article, we’ll focus on the first two, the essential parts of your LinkedIn profile, professional headline, and profile summary.

Your Professional Headline

I recommend changing your professional headline, located right under your name, at least every month, sometimes every week, or twice per week. Why? Because you might be working on a project that needs to attract a different target audience.

The marketing reason I constantly change my headline is that it is keyword-driven, and LinkedIn will take the keywords in my headline and show them in any search on LinkedIn. Also, changing your headline and most things on your profile notifies your connections, creating more profile views, interaction with connections, and maybe more followers and book sales.

Here are some professional headlines to avoid:

Writer

Author

Published Author

CEO

Executive

Consultant

Founder

Manager

Instead, be creative, be exciting, entertain, or describe how you change lives. You’re a writer; captivate the reader. If all fails, you can use keyword research to find out what your potential audience is looking for on Google and use those keywords in your headline. Just type “Google keyword tool” on Google and find a tool that will help you do keyword research.

Here are examples of headlines you can use if you’re a writer:

Author of “Name of your book.”

Writhing the next edition of “Name of your book.”

Changing the world one word at a time with “Name of your book.”

Have you ever wondered (something interesting discussed in your book)

I write fantasy, and I live fantasy

Writing science fiction books – get my book for free

Let me entertain you and captivate you with my stories

I’m writing about “Say something interesting!”

Your LinkedIn Summary

Your LinkedIn Summary is where you can feel “free” to write. Write about yourself, your book, your story, characters; you can even start a story or scene. Another good idea is to use it for your Author Biography and Book Description. Ensure you place a link to your book and your Amazon author profile, maybe even your Twitter and Facebook Author pages if you have one. If you don’t have one, get one. We’ll go over that in future articles!

Your summary also allows you to upload documents, photos, presentations, and videos. You can use this section to upload the cover of one or more of your books, a chapter of your book, maybe your book trailer, and even a short slide presentation. If you’re a non-fiction writer, take advantage of SlideShare and upload a few short presentations per year from your book.

If writing is not your full-time job, combine your professional summary with your author bio. That’s what I do. I tell visitors what I’m up to in my business while ensuring they also know I’m a writer. We are not our job, so sharing the many things you do is perfectly acceptable. Individuals with many talents and interests are much more interesting than one-trick ponies.

As with many parts of your profile, your summary is also keyword relevant. That means you will use keywords that your target audience might look for, such as science fiction books, Mergers & Acquisitions books, or romance books. You get the picture. Don’t use “big words”; use words that people use in their LinkedIn and search engine search. This ensures more people will find you. For a test, go to LinkedIn.com and type the words relevant to you, your books, your topics, or what words you would use when looking for yourself. If your profile is not in the number one slot, you need to work that keyword into your profile. You won’t get immediate search results; it will take a few days for search software to find and index your new keywords. After implementing the above simple tips, your profile should now be 80% better!

LinkedIn has become the go-to platform for authors looking to promote their work and build an online presence. With its powerful networking features, authors can easily connect with other professionals in their field, as well as potential readers and customers. It also provides a great platform for authors to showcase their writing skills and get feedback from a wide audience. Additionally, LinkedIn offers a variety of tools that allow authors to track and measure the success of their content marketing efforts. With all these features, it’s no wonder why LinkedIn is so popular among authors.

How my mother got me to read a book a week

Did you know reading to your kids has little influence in getting them to read? Yes, according to the book Freakonomics, by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, reading to your kids has no bearing on their reading. On the other hand, if you role model the behavior and read yourself, that’s the best way of getting your kids to read.

My mother begged me to read since the young age of seven. By age ten, she was pushing articles, books, and even the newspaper. “Really, Mom, the newspaper? I’m only ten years old,” I remember telling her. She gave me short stories, novels, classics, everything you can imagine. At that time, she was a philosophy and literature teacher. The result? I hated reading!

My mother reads a lot, and she’s a speed reader, to top it off. We had books on top of books on top of more books all over our house. One time I asked my Mom, while looking at one of the many bookshelves: “How many books have you read?” She thought for a moment and did some math in her head. “About 5,000”, she said. My eyes opened wide as I could not get my mind to wrap around that number. “But I’ve read them more than once,” she said, adding salt to my open wound.

By that time, I was already an avid reader and was proud of my determination towards learning, but 5,000 books? How could I ever compete with that without becoming a full-time reader? Then I read around one book per week, two at max on vacation, or read nonstop all weekend. My record was three books in a week.

What happened? How did I go from hating reading to reading every single free moment of my life? It started at ten or eleven years old, reading encyclopedias. You might think it’s the most boring thing to create a reading habit, but it’s not. This encyclopedia was huge and heavy, but it was at the bottom of the bookshelves where I saw it every day and could easily reach it. One day I paid more attention and noticed it said “Astronomy” in one of the tomes. I sat on the floor and started reading about galaxies, stars, solar systems, and black holes. I finished the entire astronomy section and picked up the next volume, mythology; wow! I get excited just remembering reading about Greek mythology, King Arthur, and other incredible stories. I didn’t pick up stories for ten more years, only reading philosophy, religion, astronomy, and other texts. At 13 years old, when my schoolmates were reading popular fiction for schoolwork, I was reading “The Life Beyond Death” by Yogi Ramacharaka.

When I turned into my teens and wanted to argue with my Mom about anything, she always cited books in the discussion. At first, I just ignored her, but soon I realized I could not really have an argument based on facts or real knowledge, so I had to read the books. This clever trick only works if you read a whole lot, but it works wonders.

Here are five quick tips for getting your kids to read:

1 – Be a role model. Kids learn by watching the adults in their lives, so if you want your kids to read, make sure you’re reading yourself. Let them see you reading for pleasure, and talk to them about the books you’re enjoying.

2 – Visit the new large bookstores often, as you would a toy store. Start going when kids are three or four years old. All the kids in my family think the bookstore is like Disneyland. Play games and make reading fun!

3 – Don’t just push stories on your kids; let them explore new topics. You might be surprised when they pick up a book on poetry, philosophy, or astronomy. When your kids choose books they’re interested in, they’re more likely to read.

4 – Introduce kids to audiobooks. Not everyone learns or retains information visually. Audiobooks are not the old book-on-tape you remember. They are incredible, beautiful productions that will get you and your kids hooked.

5 – Make reading a family activity. Set aside some time each day for family reading. This could be anything from reading aloud to each other to taking turns reading your own books. It’s also cool to talk about books. Ask your child what they’re reading and why they like it. Talk about the characters, the plot, and the setting. This will help your child to think more deeply about the books they’re reading.

It’s crucial not to force it. If your child doesn’t seem interested in reading, don’t force them. Just keep providing them with books and opportunities to read, and eventually, they’ll come around. Be patient. It may take some time for your kids to develop a love of reading. Just keep providing them with books and opportunities to read, and eventually, they’ll come around.

How to Write a Book in 60 Days

Writing a non-fiction book can be a daunting task. It requires extensive research, organization of ideas, and the ability to communicate effectively. But did you know you can write a non-fiction book in just 60 days? These include business, motivational, self-help, and communications books. It does not include novels of any kind. Writing a novel could take a year or more!

How do you write a book in 60 days? One word at a time!!!

That’s not far from the truth. However, today we’ll learn the hacks of how I’ve written more than ten books this year for me and my clients.

Here are three tips to writing a book in 60 days:

Create your book skeleton

Record or write your story

Copy-Editing

Create Your Book Skeleton

You can do this in Word, Excel, or any other word processor.

Write all your chapters and subchapters

If you can, write a paragraph or two

List all the stories and case studies

Show, don’t tell = Use stories. Suppose you lived an experience that taught you a lesson. Don’t just state the lesson; tell the story first.

If you’re writing a motivational book, write about your story.

I wrote a book called “Lessons From My Guardian Angel.” I was inspired to write stories of motivation, inspiration, and transcendence. The personal stories I share in this book and the lessons I describe are meant to make you pay close attention to important moments in your life and catch a glimpse of something special, even if you don’t believe in angels. The lessons are meant to motivate you, and the stories are intended to make you reflect, laugh, or cry.

Record or Write Your Story

Some of you want to write every word. If you’re going to have a 40,000-word book, you need to write 1,000 words per day for 40 days. With this progress, you’ll be done in less than 60 days.

The recording gives you about 120 words per minute. You need 5 to 6 hours to record your 40,000 words. Just make sure you don’t transcribe your recordings.

Copy Editing

The third and final step is copy editing. The editor is the person that reviews your book for spelling and grammar. For non-fiction books, they can also give you feedback on the flow and tone of the book. They can tell you if your book is an easy read or not. If you recorded your story, you’ll need the editor to take your recordings and turn them into a book.

Writing a book is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences you can have. It allows you to express yourself, share your knowledge and ideas with others, and make a lasting impact on the world.

Writing a book also allows you to develop your writing skills, hone your craft, and become an expert in your field. It is a great way to build credibility in your industry and establish yourself as an authority on the subject matter. Writing a book also provides an avenue for self-expression and creativity. Through writing, you can create something that will last long after you’re gone.

If you were to ask me what my favorite thing to do every day, the answer is easy: writing. I love to write. It is therapeutic for me. I love to share stories and help others feel better, gain knowledge, be entertained, and learn new lessons.

It may sound impossible, but it is possible to write your book in 60 days with the right strategies and tools. With the help of these tools, you can outline your ideas, organize them into chapters, and write your book in no time. In addition to that, you can also use AI writing assistants to help you generate content quickly and accurately.

Following these three simple steps, you can write a non-fiction book in two months. So, what are you waiting for? Get started on your writing journey today!

The Dawn of Everything: My “Aha Moment” of this Book

The prevailing history of humanity is that it’s linear. We evolved from humble innocent nomads to enlightened modern humans. Well, what if the opposite was true? What if the ancients of five thousand, even ten thousand years ago were the smarter ones? And us, what we in the West see as the future of civilization, have a flawed perception of life and happiness.

The history of social, or human evolution is not linear as I was taught in high school, college, and beyond. We didn’t start by being gatherers, then, hunter-gatherers, followed by the agricultural revolution and the dawn of intellectual abstract thought of the modern human. Even the term social evolution implies that we were different somehow ten thousand years ago, or forty thousand years ago, and now we’re better, more evolved; maybe even the contrary is true.

In The Dawn of Everything, Authors David Graeber I and David Wengrow teach us the different theories and research on the history of humanity, letting us join in with our own interpretations and conclusions. The authors don’t sell us one view of history but present all the facts, and explain who proposed those facts, and even offer a short biography on the historians to give us perspective and context. For example, a historian of the conquest and colonization of a country that is part of the monarchy that did the conquering, might not be the best source of information, such is the case for the Americas with the historic perspective of the English, French, Portuguese and Spanish.

One of my favorite parts of the book is where the authors talk about great thinkers and philosophers from the conquered Americas, and how they influenced European thinkers and not only the other way around. Another idea that stayed with me is “Practice Agriculture,” which I imagine was private gardens, where families could supplement their hunting and gathering, or in other parts of the world, their kept animals. What this means is that our ancestors did discover agriculture, but didn’t really like it, it was too much work compared with the other forms of subsistence, contradicting again the linear thought that progress in human thinking and a better way of life comes through the roads of agriculture.

This book is on my list of Must Reads for everyone, regardless of your interests and profession. I think the book will propel your knowledge of who we are, and why the modern world works the way it does. My hope is that this and future generations see alternative, proven ways of government, politics, and quality of life.

How can you apply the knowledge from The Dawn of Everything?

In your view of happiness and your personal pursuit of what you think is your personal Nirvana, this book will show you different levels of living across humanity, so that you can make your own decision, instead of letting society dictate what should make you happy.

As far as my own application of knowledge, I’m already using it to define or redefine my values on life and work, and I will continue to use it as reference material for my own books.

I listened to the twenty-four-hour-long audiobook, and you could also read the seven-hundred-page book, both available on Amazon-Audible as well as many libraries. I got the book through my San Diego County Library through the phone App Libby. Since this book is now on the top list of books to read, I’ll purchase it both on Audible and printed in order to refer back and use it in my own writing and teaching.

My Top Ten Takeaways from the Book “The Dawn of Everything”

History is linear, but human evolution is not.

Our ancestors had the same level of sophistication or higher than the modern man.

Democracy pre-dates Greece in many parts of the world

Chiefs did not always have power, they were civil servants

Many police were also clowns. Yes, it’s true!

History of mankind is whitewashed

Man worked much less for much more through history

Mesopotamia is not the cradle of civilization; it’s what Europe sees as the cradle of the European style of civilization

Our target lifestyle might not be the best. There were better ones five thousand years ago.

Learn alternative ways of government and economics, many I deem better than our modern ones.

Why did I read It?

Who should read it?

This is in my Must Read list for everyone.

Why should you read it?

It will make you smarter and aware of why you are the way you are.

How many books do you read per year?
I added this section to my book review: How many books do you read per year? To better recommend this book according to your goals and reading habits. Let me explain; I get book recommendation requests from friends, family, employees, customers, and even people in the coffee shop. I can’t just give a book recommendation of what I’m reading without knowing anything about you or your goals. For example, you might be looking for a leadership book or a Fantasy series. After I find out what your goals are, I now ask: How many books do you read per year? This is a new question, one that I didn’t ask before, later to find out that many of my friends were not following my recommendations. What if you read one book per month and I’m thinking you read one book per year? My recommendation would be very different in these cases.

In the case of The Dawn of Everything, a 24-hour read or listen, it could take one month to listen or read if you read for one hour per day. Although I would recommend this book as a must-read for everyone I know, it might not be the first book I recommend. It’s quite long and very dense in knowledge and terminology, not the ideal candidate for, say, a young person looking to learn a bit of history.

Narration Review

I listened to the audiobook of Dawn of Everything. Mark Williams is a brilliant narrator of non-fiction books. Mark brings a level of sophisticated authority to the book.

“If I’m fat, just tell me I’m fat!”

You tell it like it is and expect others to do the same. Sure, you consider feelings sometimes!

You talk straight to your kids, including teenagers; you speak directly to your boss, spouse, and parents. You expect the same, right? You want straight talk from your mechanic, accountant, and fitness trainer. “If I’m fat, just tell me I’m fat,” you tell your trainer.

If you can see yourself in any of these situations, you, my friend, have a low tolerance for BS.

Five tips to communicate BS-free without looking like a jerk

It can be difficult to communicate without sounding like a jerk. But it is possible to do so without resorting to BS. By speaking straightforwardly and honestly, you can avoid coming across as a know-it-all or an arrogant person.

The key is being mindful of your words and how others perceive them. Speak clearly and concisely without exaggerating or embellishing the facts. Be respectful of others’ opinions, even if you disagree with them. And most importantly, don’t be afraid to admit when you are wrong or don’t know something – it shows humility and respect for others.

By following these five tips, you can communicate effectively without being rude or insincere with your words.

1. Pay attention

Notice I said pay attention, not just listen. I say this for a reason. It would help if you listened intently, with your mind, ears, eyes, and body. Your body language will tell the other person that they are important, that you care, and that they have your full attention; not half of your attention shared with a text, Facebook, TV, or a call you have to take. I mean your full attention. Put down your phone, or turn it off (yes, I said it), and look the person in the eyes with your shoulders facing them.

By paying attention to people when communicating, we can ensure that our conversations are productive, respectful, and mutually beneficial.

2. Don’t Interrupt

Next time you’re part of a group conversation, count how many times people jump in, add, or simply interrupt the speaker. They might do it directly to the person speaking or turn to another person and start a side conversation. We all have the urge to talk and express ourselves, but don’t do it! You can nod, say “aha,” and give positive facial expressions, but don’t interrupt. If the person goes off-topic, bring them back with, “I really want to know what happened next.” On extreme occasions, you might say, “Get to the point,” or if you want to be subtle, “Finish the story, I only have ten minutes.”

Communication is a two-way street. It’s important to make sure that both parties have the opportunity to express themselves without interruption. Interrupting someone while they are speaking can disrupt the flow of conversation and be seen as disrespectful and dismissive.

To ensure effective communication, it’s important to practice active listening and give the other person time to finish their thoughts before jumping in with your own opinion or response. This will help create an environment of mutual respect and understanding between all parties involved in the conversation.

3. Don’t Judge

This point is the big one. If you start judging, you’ll begin getting BS simply because nobody will want to tell you what they did, what they are thinking, or what the situation is. Your employees will give you a thick story that sounds like “it wasn’t my fault.” Your kids will explain it’s the teacher’s fault they’re getting the failing grade; you know the story. Unless you have a law degree and were appointed and nominated to the Supreme Court by the President, don’t judge.

Remember, part of NO BS, by definition, is no judging. It’s about getting to a goal, which might be to feel better or come up with a solution. Remember, not all problems have answers, especially many emotional ones.

We can use communication to build relationships, share ideas, and solve problems. However, we can create misunderstandings or hurt feelings if we are not careful with our words and tone. We must be mindful of how we communicate with others and always strive to be respectful and understanding. By doing this, we can ensure that communication is a positive experience for all involved.

4. Ask Questions

Asking questions is an essential part of communication. It helps us to understand the other person better and encourages them to open up. Use questions to clarify misunderstandings and get more information about a topic. Asking questions is a great way to show that you are engaged in the conversation and interested in what the other person says. By asking thoughtful questions, we can gain insight into the other person’s point of view and build stronger relationships with them.

Asking questions engages you in conversation. Sometimes you even have to tell them, “I really want to know,” but often, a “Tell me what happened” is sufficient. Practice asking questions and digging into life, business, or other issues. Yes, it takes practice. If you’re a consultant or a salesperson, you know what I’m talking about.

5. Pay Attention to Your Delivery

When it comes to communication, how you deliver your message can be just as important as the words you choose. That’s why it is crucial to practice your delivery when communicating. The correct delivery can help ensure that your message is received correctly and that you can convey your ideas clearly and concisely. It can also help ensure that the conversation flows naturally and that both parties feel comfortable.

Now that people know you care, listen, and your intentions are good, you can be as direct as you want without repercussions. If you’re speaking with someone you don’t know, it will not work until they know who you are and what you’re about. Practice it in your home before taking it out in the real world. Let me know how it goes; no BS!

It’s easy to communicate BS-free; you just have to care about the other person and what they say, feel, and want. If you care about that employee, boss, or family member, and they know it, you can talk BS-free and expect the same from them. If there are repercussions if they speak their mind, or you judge them for doing so, you’ll get BS for the rest of the day, week, month, you know, forever. Simple as that.

Full Article Here! or “Full Magazine”

Developing a new beverage can be a daunting task, especially when you’re working on a tight budget. But with the right planning and resources, it is possible to create a successful beverage product without breaking the bank. This article will explore the various ways in which entrepreneurs can develop their own unique beverages on a bootstrap budget. We will look at different methods of research and development, estimate start-up costs, finding the right source of capital, bringing your vision to life to create something that stands out from the crowd, and fighting off potential failure.

Finding the right source of capital is essential for any business, but especially for businesses in the beverage industry. There are many options available, such as angel investors, venture capitalists, and banks. Each option has its own advantages and disadvantages that should be considered when selecting the right source of capital for your new beverage business. In this article, we will discuss some of these options and how to choose the best one for your needs.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a tremendous impact on the beverage industry. With social distancing and other safety measures, the traditional way of selling and consuming beverages has changed drastically. From restaurants to grocery stores, people are now looking for more convenient ways to purchase their favorite drinks. This has led to an increase in online sales and an increase in demand for delivery services. As a result, beverage companies have had to adapt their strategies in order to meet consumer needs and remain competitive. In addition, the use of technology has become increasingly important as businesses look for ways to streamline their operations and provide customers with a better experience.

Top 4 Reasons to Start Your Own LinkedIn Group

If you don’t already own a LinkedIn Group, you should. It will improve your personal branding, your company’s positioning, and how you interact with partners and customers. LinkedIn allows you to manage ten groups and join fifty, including yours. Ensure you also join fifty groups to be seen by more people more often.

I manage ten groups myself on several diverse subjects, including:

· Mexico Business

· Book Writers

· Beverage Business

· Venture Capital

These few groups have more than 200,000 members, with the Book Writers group passing the 108,000 member mark in 2023—a very active group with thousands of weekly posts and comments.

Why open your group? Here are four things your LinkedIn group will do for you:

1. Become an Expert

When you manage a LinkedIn group, you sign every post as the Administrator. That alone gets you some authority on the subject of the group. If you’re looking to position yourself as an expert, open a group about the industry, not about you or your business. I created groups about Venture Capital, Beverages, Writing, and Doing Business in Mexico. I don’t have groups called Jorge Olson or with the name of my business.

The next step is to open industry-relevant conversations in your posts. Don’t make business announcements. News about your business will not create discussions, but information about the industry will create plenty. I have some posts with more than one thousand comments.

2. Access More People

With your own LinkedIn group, you can contact everyone in your group directly, sending them private messages without penalties from LinkedIn. This feature alone is an incredible perk LinkedIn gives you for your efforts in managing groups. Imagine if you have thousands of people in your industry, you can contact them and introduce yourself as the Group Manager.

That’s not all. LinkedIn Groups allow you to send one email to all the members once per week. Wow! Imagine a database of one thousand, ten thousand, or, like me, more than one hundred thousand members. You have access to all these people with one email. Again, don’t send company news; share value. Send articles, information on the industry, jobs, and things your subscribers will want to open and read.

3. Get More Business

If you provide value and position yourself as an industry expert, you’ll get more business even if you don’t want it. It’s the Karma of business. I call it Unselfish Self Promotion. Your phone will ring, people will contact you through email or LinkedIn, and they will subscribe to your profile and finally offer you jobs, contracts, or partnerships. This is a textbook direct marketing strategy; build your list, increase credibility, form a relationship, and organically get the business. In the last week, I was contacted by two of the largest beverage businesses in the world to sell their beverages in Mexico, all through my LinkedIn Beverage Group.

4. Customer Relationship Management

If you don’t need so many new customers (yea, right!), you can still use LinkedIn Groups to interact with existing customers and manage relationships and expectations. It’s a way to interact with your customers their way, on their turf, the way they want it. You can have several contributors or editors to your group. If you’re a large company, these can be your customer service managers. One thing I like very much is you can follow customers in every job. If they leave their employment to a new and better one, you are still connected to them, and your business can follow them to their next job.

LinkedIn Groups provide an excellent platform to build relationships with like-minded professionals. By creating and managing a group, you can engage with potential customers, partners, and employees who share your interests. With the right strategy, you can use LinkedIn Groups to promote your business, establish yourself as an industry expert, and grow your network.

Opening a LinkedIn Group is an effective way to connect with people who are interested in the same topics as you and leverage the power of social media to reach more people.

No, I will not make you wear one of those small magnets in your ear, neck, or any part of your body—no magnetic earrings, stickers, or shoes. The goal is to use Magnets as a Promotional Tool to attract the right people, attention, and promotion to yourself.

Reader Beware! Magnets can also attract the wrong kind of attention, people, or reaction. This is the trick with magnets; they have two sides. Let’s talk about “Magnet Management,” where you learn how to turn on the attraction side of your magnet and keep the rejection side under control.

You may be asking yourself, “What does Jorge mean by magnets?” Well, magnets have the power and ability both to attract and repel. You have in your arsenal of “promotion toolbox” many types of magnets. You most likely use some of your magnets but not all. You will recognize and know what they are and how they can be used “for good or evil.”

Magnetic Personality – Is it a good thing?

We’ve all heard the expression of people having a magnetic personality. We always assume this is a good thing, that these people attract others to them. Now we will explore the Magnetic Personality Myth to see how we can use it for self-promotion and, more importantly, how not to use it negatively.

Having a magnetic personality means using specific tools from your Promotional Toolbox to attract or repel people. You might think you don’t have control over your magnetism; it is a personality trait some people have, and others don’t. It is not. Many of your magnets can be turned on and off. They can be used at different times and in different circumstances. They can be used to attract and repel people. Do you want to attract people more often with an upbeat magnetic personality? It’s easy, change your magnets, use the positive magnets, and don’t ever use the negative ones. People will start being attracted to you.

If you are always smiling and happy, making people laugh and making others feel comfortable, people will inevitably want to be around you. You don’t have to be the center of attention; you just have to be happy and try to make others happy. You have to speak with people with an optimistic tone of voice; you have to be understanding and caring. This will start turning you into a lean, mean, magnetic machine!

In contrast, we do things daily that show our negative side, our harmful magnets, which repel instead of attract others. Unfortunately, we use many of these magnets unconsciously when annoyed, in a bad mood, depressed, or when things don’t go our way. We often try to hide our harmful magnets and only use them at home or with our family. That does not work; our family is the center of our magnetism, the center of our promotion. If you don’t wholly attract your family members or immediate circle, you will not be able to go beyond that circle and attract others.

I have seen marriages end, friendships deteriorate, and family relationships suffer because people choose negative magnets over positive ones. I have heard people say, “This is how I am. I can’t change who I am. Take me or leave me.” And you know what? More often than not, people will leave you. Most people want to be around positive and joyful people.

Think of your magnetism as the forces of gravity in the solar system. You are the sun, bright, extensive, and with tremendous forces of attraction. The sun can’t turn off its gravity and then turn it back on; there would be no more planets to attract, and they would fly away, never to return. Apply this example to your life and your self-promotion. You should not change from attracting and repelling negative to positive. When you are constantly being negative, criticizing others, and snapping, you don’t just make it better by turning on the charm occasionally. One of these days, the planets will fly away, and you will be a lonely sun in the universe with nothing to attract.

We face many situations throughout our day, week, and lives to which we must react. We don’t have time to stop and think and develop sentiments towards someone or something. We just respond quickly. This reaction seems like a split decision, a feeling developed on the spur of the moment. It is not. It reflects how we think, what we carry inside us, how we see life, and ourselves in life. If you are using good magnets and other tools constantly and consciously, you will not react negatively in challenging situations; you will not tolerate that from yourself. You will start seeing a shift in how you see the same problems and get angry with yourself if you react severely or make someone feel bad or uncomfortable. You will be tougher on yourself to be better with others.

Now that you know the different types of magnetic personalities, the ones that attract and repel, it’s time for you to think of your magnets throughout the day; when you are walking, talking, or interacting with others, when you are alone in your car or at home. Think of what you do to attract people, your family, friends, colleagues, and even strangers. Think of what you do to push them away and compensate. Reflect and choose the positive tools of attraction in your life.

In this Marketing Keys Podcast, Jorge Olson and Carlo Herrera talk about the difference between “celebritizing” yourself or becoming an industry expert and being an influencer.

Being an influencer and being an industry expert are two different roles that require different skillsets. While influencers have the ability to create a following and engage with their audience, industry experts have the knowledge and experience to provide valuable insights in their field of expertise.

Influencers use their platform to share ideas, promote products, or connect with people. They can drive sales by creating content that resonates with their followers. On the other hand, industry experts are sought after for their expertise in a certain field or topic. They use their knowledge to help companies make informed decisions and stay ahead of trends in their sector.

Both roles have become increasingly important as businesses look for ways to reach new customers and build trust within the marketplace. However, it is important to note that each role requires different skillsets and should be approached differently when it comes to marketing strategies.

“A lot of people think that going the influencer route is the way to go, but I don’t think it is. I think celebritizing is the way to go, specifically celebritizing in your particular industry.

If you’re an entrepreneur, that’s the way to go. So that’s the topic that we’re covering today, how to become a celebrity in your industry as a way to increase sales and get funding,” says Jorge Olson.

“Most people out there listening to this for the first time, they do not know who you are, they do not know who I am. Now, if you’re in the beverage industry, you probably know who I am, because what I’ve tried to do in that industry is turn myself into a celebrity.

If you’re in wholesale distribution or want to get into wholesale distribution, you probably know who I am. I am invited to speak on the subject at conferences. If you don’t go to those conferences, then you don’t know who I am. I write books about the beverage industry and wholesale distribution. If you read books on that industry, then you know who I am. If you do not, then you don’t know. I have spent several years becoming an expert in my industry and it has paid off for me,” explains Jorge Olson.

To be successful in your entrepreneurial dreams, you have to be able to learn from others. The best way to learn the skills of a successful business owner is to study the skills of successful entrepreneurs and then grow those skills in yourself.

The podcast entitled “Entrepreneurship with Jorge Olson” describes Jorge’s upbringing in Mexico, his initial path in the software industry, his ultimate route to entrepreneurship, and how the American dream is still alive. Jorge describes failures and successes in the multiple businesses he purchased and the importance of mentors in his life. This is one of the more personal interviews Jorge has given, always looking to inspire others to go for their dreams like he did 25 years ago.

Failing as an entrepreneur is something that nobody wants to experience, but it is a reality for many. It can be a difficult and painful experience, but it can also be a great learning opportunity. By understanding the common mistakes made by entrepreneurs and developing strategies to avoid them, you can increase your chances of success in the future.

Failing as an entrepreneur can mean different things to different people. Whether it’s a failed business venture or simply not achieving one’s goals, failure has the potential to push us in new directions and open up opportunities we never dreamed of. With this in mind, it’s important to take stock of our experiences and use them as lessons for future successes.

Jorge had his fair share of failures along the way, but the one thing he credits his ultimate success to were the multiple mentors in his life. Mentors are an invaluable asset to entrepreneurs and business owners. They provide guidance, advice, and support to help their mentees reach their goals. Mentors can assist in the development of a business by providing industry insights, offering advice on decision making, and helping to identify areas of improvement. With the right mentor, entrepreneurs can be successful in achieving their goals and reaching new heights.

Mentors can also help entrepreneurs develop the skills necessary to succeed in business. By sharing experiences and knowledge, they can provide valuable insight into how to navigate the complexities of running a business. They can also help mentees identify potential opportunities or pitfalls that may arise along the way. This type of guidance is essential for any entrepreneur looking to make it big in today’s competitive marketplace.
