I find it peculiar, striking & very disappointing that most folk, even those on the #liberal side who proclaim (when cameras are rolling) their staunch support for the #equalrights of man & woman kind, only find the time to speak-up against atrocities when somebody gets killed or when a jury renders a verdict that diminishes the #dignity of a human being, as with the Michael Dunn trial in Florida.

But on every other day, the rest of ya'll are silent as you tip-toe through the tulips, forgetting that the struggle for equality is a daily challenge for millions of Americans, including people-of-color & women you know.

On every other day, there is derision, disdain toward advocates for #CivilRights & equality. As if the outcry has no basis.

Now, the right wing is the right wing. It's easy to call them out. It happens everyday & nobody even blinks.

What I'm concerned with is the audacity of silence from the left.

It's been 50 years since the Civil Rights Act & there's a reason why racism & discrimination continue to plague American society. Is it the fault of Republicans? Again, it's easy to point a finger their direction.

What #ThePeople and traditional media fail to acknowledge in our pragmatic society is that #diversity #inclusion & #equality in left-of-center & Democratic circles are still mired in the status quo of the 1950s.

Just look at the Democratic leadership in your city or county or state.

Look at the casting in Hollywood films & shows.

There isn't much diversity unless you're lookin' at the people who are cleaning & cooking for the leaders & stars of these so-called inclusive organizations. People-of-color can't even get roles as extras in Hollywood- nevermind America's board rooms & halls of government awash in whiteness.

In case you happen to catch the Oscars, take a look at the audience or the people on stage. How many Asians are there? How many blacks? Or Latinos? Not much has changed since the 1950s.

Saying you stand for equality is one thing. But there is outlandish resistance from even the left to practice inclusiveness.

But in this 21st Century of #transparency, it's high time that ALL of The People- Republicans, Democrats & in between, truly mean it when they say, "I'm not a racist," or "I believe in equality, diversity & inclusion."

If that's the case, then show America & the world that you practice #diversity & #inclusion, that you stand up for the person-of-color being mocked, derided or passed over for a job promotion.

Talkin' the talk without walkin' the walk is so 20th Century, 1950's status quo. It's time to end discrimination & racism.

Your silence will not lead to change. Democrats & the left: you are the game-changers so it's time to step up to the plate of equality.

Grandfathered repeatedly over time [as measured in centuries] into every position of power in government & business, the #statusquo bastion of white European authority shows an impregnable reluctance to play fair in the 21^st Century- even as it preaches equality & purports to hold the dignity of ALL Earth’s peoples, regardless of skin color, race or origin, in the highest regard.

In the last 500 years, people of color - even those residing on ancestral lands must fight for parity, are forced to climb from the lowest #social #political & economic positions. What’s true in India is true in South America; what proves true in Africa & Asia rings with resounding clarity in our United States.

Today, it remains a dangerous vocation to be an #Advocate for #CivilRights. For me, fortunately, it's much easier to speak up than be silenced.

In America, even the liberal left, the powerful Democrats continue to reflect a white washed leadership. Sure, the left talks about being inclusive. But this inclusiveness is hardly visible when you see the inner-circles of its leadership standing together in news conferences & #selfie photo opportunities. One might see an occasional black person (with white features) in these powerful circles, and even a light sprinkle or two of Latinos, but rarely an Asian.

Asians are not even in the conversation for the next judicial nominee for the SCOTUS. Asian characters on TV still reflect Anglicized last names; even left-of-center Hollywood has not journeyed much past Mrs. Livingston from #TheCourtshipOfEddie’sFather. The actress Ming-Na Wen’s roles include being cast as Judy Roberts, Jenna Sparks, Elisha Crowe; what’s wrong with Wang Xiu Wong?

In the US, it seems the reason change is slow is that racism continues to be the rule whether you’re a Democrat, Republican or Independent.

And racism explains why corruption is rampant.

The lack of diversity & inclusion in the nation’s businesses & government allows the white race to run all over the Constitution. Just look at the parade of leaders testifying in front of our do-nothing Congress… all white folk whether it’s the #NSA, #IRS, #DOJ, #FBI, #WallStreet.

Have you ever stopped to think that these idiots don’t know what the hell they’re doing in their respective positions? Why do you think the economy crashed? Because these white fools had the skills & abilities to lead a bank or a government agency? No. Regardless of their ineptitude, they got their jobs because they were well connected with the European status quo that dates back to the global age of exploration.

It’s stunning that none of these white criminals ever go to jail, yet their deliberate damage to society is Nazi-like in magnitude. Hundreds of millions of lives ruined.

There is one area that is accurate: just as they are in government & Wall Street, most criminals on popular crime shows are played by white people. [Sadly amusing. however, is that the prison populations in the US tend to be dominated by people of color.]

2014 is a turning point in our nation’s history. Racism cannot continue to suffocate the sacred cause of equality.

The age of technology is a powerful thing for Main Street.

This time of year is always exciting, what with the Oscar's coming up.

Since the 1950's, women and blacks have made significant strides in the equality arena. Yet these two groups still have an uphill climb as they inch closer to a true American Dream. For Latinos, there is progress- though at a much slower pace.

Our strengthening marriage equality movement, with strong support from Hollywood, has thrust the gay community, which includes all races, seems to have leapfrogged the Asians in terms of attention and inclusion.

For Asians, equality remains a cold wet dream. The Civil Rights Act is now how old?

Hollywood, that liberal bastion, currently creates a false reality in many of its shows and films. The most striking example-- I prefer crime dramas like NCIS-LA-- would be the casting of hospital or lab staff roles.

On the West Coast, the medical field is very diverse and, next time you stop at a health clinic, note the Asians comprise a significant number of the workers.

With racist Hollywood falling behind the rest of society, rarely do we see any Asians in the hospital scenes. These roles are reserved for whites, women or blacks. Enter a hospital or clinic in any city on the West Coast and you will find an abundance of races, including many Asians.

This is 2013 and the entire Hollywood culture continues to be stuck in 1950’s status quo racism when the visual arts did not at all acknowledge the existence of any race but white. Back then, if a role called for an Indian or Latina, it was played by a Caucasian in face paint.

In the 1960's, I watched a lot of American TV shows while I was in Manila. I dreamed of someday coming to the United States. Such a nice, clean atmosphere, America, and my family would be one of the first non-whites to come to its shores. That's the deep impression American television left on my 9-year-old brain...

... until my family landed in San Francisco, July 1970. I was stunned. Where did all these black people come from? I didn't know there were other Asians already here! I thought everyone in America was of the white race-- all the heroes on TV were white. I was unsettled but did not discuss my shock with anyone for decades.

Decades. Many have passed since the Civil Rights Act. Still, the Dream isn't fully achieved. True, we've seen major progress for women and blacks and some Latinos.

In 2013, I find it unacceptable that Asians continue to be doormats of the community. Hollywood, that liberal bastion, barely acknowledges the significant number of Asians that make up our great country. I know gay Democrats who still laugh at Mickey Rooney’s Jap caricature in “Breakfast At Tiffany’s.”

I expect empathy and unconditional support for Asian Equality from the women, blacks, Latinos and, especially, the gay community that have benefitted from the sacrifices made by people of all races. I support equality for all races, including women and gays.

We must not dismiss the fact that Asians continue to face prejudice and exclusion. We can’t waste the lives of American martyrs a second time by ignoring the reality of ongoing discrimination against Asians.

Republican racists are immediately called out.

The liberal Democrats hide behind party affiliation or their gay sexuality as they—much like the deep south bigots of the 1950’s, continue to mock and laugh at Asians who decry racism. Democrats and Hollywood have become complacent and self-absorbed, too lazy and ignorant to hear the cries that we are still climbing. We have not reached the mountain top.

It is time for the Democrats and Hollywood to align itself with the 21^st century values of social, economic and political equality.

Equality for ALL must happen now. The strength of racism in this century is a slap in the face for Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Dream and the many-- including whites—who withstood torture, humiliation and death and defiantly fought for the civil rights of ALL of The People.

After all, equality is for everybody.

The Problem: It's What The Country's Name Represents

The republic should honor one of its own. Yes, it's time to put the country's foreign name into the history books.

When I think of my home country and its beautiful people-- intelligent, kind, jovial, deeply spiritual, I'm reminded that the nation's new name ought to be of the people and for the people.

Whenever the existing country's name is mentioned, one's brain imagines a kingly foreigner standing over a vanquished people.

Jose Rizal Online recognizes that the honorable and practical change to the country's name will awaken the fervor of the Filipino citizen by reflecting the true nature of the islands and its citizens.

It's awkward to hear a name that represents conquest and subjugation. For example, when The Best Fighter In The Universe defeats an opponent, the opponent's camp does not rename itself after Pacman The Conqueror. The identity of the vanquished remains intact, its essence whole, albeit roughed up, di ba?

If his own country wants to pay tribute to King Philip II, we can applaud the effort.

For now, the colonialists have left the islands. So the people are free to reclaim its true identity and march forward, with pride.

The Pope: A Meaningful Conversation With The Filipino Citizen

In this age of technology and information, those of us who are "the people," find ourselves blessed with the ability to impact change without any wealth.

The downtrodden Filipino citizen is poor yet intellectually advanced. But its collective intelligence finds few-- and many times, no-- opportunities; the nation is unable to realize its potential even as other countries benefit from its talents. Often, finding employment means leaving family behind to work as servants overseas. If you're lucky.

There is good news: in 2009, 72 million Filipinos were wired. Likely millions more have access to technology today.

Technology is why the average citizen, the individual is key to rising from the ashes of five centuries. The poor Filipino citizen can do more for the people and the country than perhaps all the leaders the islands have seen in 500 years.

Even in our digital world, of equal importance, in order for the sun to shine its magnificence on the Filipino citizen, is the Catholic church.

The Filipino citizen has the deepest reverence for the teachings of the Catholic church, which tends to be the most important factor in the lives of millions. It is the one blessing that shines on the poor citizen-- and offers an existing infrastructure whose untapped impact can help pave the way for meaningful social and economic progress. First, something has to happen.

The Pope must visit the islands to deliver-- in a sentence or two-- an acknowledgement of the abuse the Filipinos suffered from the colonialists who represented the Catholic church. Perhaps even offer an apology.

This symbolic visit and gesture would then be followed with a pep talk to inspire the Filipinos, as individuals and as a nation. The Pope's message would have a beautiful, loving global impact. A nurturing of the soul-- of all souls!

If the church aims to inspire, the Pope's visit and communication would be a very big step toward revitalizing the Filipino citizen's quest for a life of dignity and prosperity. A sentence or two would reset history's course for a people looking for inspiration. The positive impact would be miraculous.

It would be a powerful major step toward fulfilling The Promise of Jose Rizal Online by 2020.

Our Divine Obligation: Defending Human Rights

With the historic development in Pakistan this week in the global fight against terrorism, many of us have had a reason to look inward, to look at our own sense of right and wrong.

Every person on our planet deserves to live in peace and security, to enjoy the human rights that are part of the universe's natural order.

The terrorists' cruelty wants to diminish the liberties we enjoy, robbing us of our natural rights. When we travel, we are now forced to endure intrusive searches. Fear and uncertainty consume our energy and time.

And so many have lost their lives.

The mechanisms for the US Navy SEALs' courageous mission were initiated long ago by its very subject. America did not choose the event in Abbottabad.

Rather, it is part of the terrorist lifeline. A destructive threat that seeks to wipe out life is contrary to the laws of the universe.

It is our divine obligation to defend our human rights and freedom. Human dignity does not take a back seat to atrocities against humanity.

Really, there is no justice in the global war against terror. A life lost does not bring back the victims.

But this isn't about right or wrong. It's about mankind's divine will to survive.

Our work is not over. Billions of our world's citizens continue to suffer in silence, unacknowledged by its leaders-- even in nations like China, India and the US.

Injustice, prejudice, lies have always accompanied mankind's journey through history and time.

In order to survive, at times it's easier to surrender to the powerful who usurp an individual's dignity.

In our age of transparency, we are seeing dramatic changes.

A year ago, we identified social media as the equalizer that helps the individual reclaim the human rights to which (s)he is entitled. A poor college student now has a powerful voice equal to any billionaire, a general or dictator. 1 to 1. We've seen it in the Middle East.

Yet the battle is not easy. Lives are sacrificed for the cause of justice, freedom and liberty. Families suffer.

But truth has endurance; truth always prevails as part of the natural order of our universe.

MLK's "We Shall Overcome" is my daily bread of inspiration.

I am so thankful for MLK and the countless who are nameless -- including our men and women in the military, who made the ultimate sacrifice so that I can safely exercise my freedom of speech, to pursue my human rights as an individual, just as the Creator intended, without fear.
