This month, we will set a record for the number of events hosted by our team.  In fact, three of the events will happen without me even being there.  That’s right.  I won’t even be there!  This crusade has grown so much that I have taken the steps to clone myself …

If you recover from the last statement, I really have not cloned myself (God already did that when he made me with an identical twin).  I have, however, been training up other leaders to teach our classes.  I will be introducing you to several of our team members over the next couple of months, but I wanted to take this post to say THANK YOU.

I am THANKFUL because you have taken the time to invest in this crusade.  You may have purchased a copy of I Was Broke. Now I’m Not. or its related Group Study.  You have probably attended one of our live teaching events – the Financial Learning Experience or Financial Freedom Experience.  You might have become a trained financial counselor through our Financial Counseling Experience.

You might have even decided to lead an entire team of people through the I Was Broke. Now I’m Not. Group Study.  You agreed to help those individuals walk through tough financial decisions, wrestle with financial disasters, or marital conflicts.

I want to say THANK YOU.  Thank you for allowing my team to serve you as we partner together to provide practical and relevant financial teaching!

Here is what I know – this crusade is all about helping PREVENT this from happening in the future.  If people are EQUIPPED with the ability to produce income and taught HOW to save some for emergencies and down times, we can make a substantial dent in these numbers.

I can’t wait until I launch the research division of IWBNIN.  One of the key items I want to know here is the amount of income that these families have received in the previous five years.  If they have received decent income over that time and managed to save exactly zero dollars, then it is shame on them.  If they have received no income, but they did not give 100% toward trying, then it is shame on them.  If they have received horrible income over that time even though they tried with everything they had then it is an entirely different problem.

I don’t have the research yet, but I can’t wait to see those numbers.  I have no idea what we will find out, but it will certainly be interesting!

Rule #4 You must have margin.

I have lived with no money in the savings account.  When I was in that situation, I was very aware that it was not the best situation.  It was clear that $0 in savings left little room for financial emergencies to occur, but I was unaware of the full implications of zero saving until I finally had a healthy savings account.

A healthy savings account provids margin.  It allows you to think beyond today and tomorrow.  Margin allows you to consider a business decision, career path, or even moving without seizing up due to making this statement to yourself, “That will cost money.  Money that I do not have.”  Financial margin allows you to absorb unexpected financial events (like refrigerator, hot water heater, or car failure) – without incurring new debt.

Margin also allows you to take advantage of unexpected financial bargains.

To me, financial margin equals to less stress, peace, a calm wife, and freedom.

Rule #3 Nothing will happen until you do something.

I used to work a J.O.B.  I was energetic enough because I am a naturally hyper person, but I was working a J.O.B.

Instead of waking up in the morning and saying, “Good morning, Lord!  I can’t believe I get to do this!!!”, I would wake up and say, “Good Lord.  It’s morning.  Where’s the coffee?”  I wanted to do work that made a difference.  I think most people fall into that category.  There is nothing more miserable than working a J.O.B. that makes absolutely no difference in anyone’s life.

I have met a lot of people who feel stuck in their job.  They hate it.  To say that they “despise” their job would not be overstating it.  They want to do something else, but they feel trapped.

I have been there.  I decided to do something about it.  I began to offer free financial counseling for members of our community.  Trusting people allowed me into their homes to help them prepare a written spending plan or to develop a strategy to become debt-free.  Those people allowed this crusade to become a reality.  But it would not have happened had I not made the first move.

This rule applies to all areas of life.  Want to go out on a date with that girl?  Better do something – ask her!  Want the next promotion?  Let the boss know that you are interested – and prepare like crazy so that you are ready for it!

Want to win with your finances?  DO SOMETHING about it.

We have now begun to pay off the sunroom portion of our house – another five squares this month.  We could pay off more but …  Baby Sangl #2 is taking that money right now!!!  That is the best reason I can possibly think of for delaying the aggressive house pay-off plan!

Here’s a money saving tip if you are a cash-paying customer …    The 20-week ultrasound costs around $350.  We discovered that our local college (Greenville Tech) will provide it for FREE – all you have to do is schedule it!  We were able to have our ultrasound performed by a senior and then checked by the instructor to make sure everything was done correctly – and it was all FREE.
