It is like everybody have forgotten about free browsing, since MTN and more lately GLO did the hammer by both upgrading their firewall. In as much as that, I am using a paid connection for this post I lean't that of recent GLO has started working with Your freedom software. Although it’s definitely not new but I think it will be rather wise if i may share it with assuming you are intrested. As with all free browsing tricks, there’s a possibility that it may have stopped working soon and if you got here via Google and the settings below ain’t no longer working, I suggest you check the freedom web forum for updates. This Freedom settings on GLO might not be so fast if you’re not in a 3G coverage area but it’s not so bad on EDGE either. Download Your Freedom Client . Download OpenVPN 2.1.4 Be sure you download OpenVPN 2.1.4 because it seems like the stable version that works quite alright on Windows 7 unlike the other versions. You can download the latest YF client but I’m presently using version 20111213-03.

1. Download Your Freedom Client

2. Download OpenVPN 2.1.4

3. Click on Configure and enter the settings as shown in the screenshot below: Address: wap.gloworld.com Port: 80

Connection Mode: HTTP Tweak: None Enter other parameters as shown in the image above. If you’re connecting from a different country, you need to change wap.gloworld.com to any free site on your network, perhaps a free homepage or something.

4. Click the “Proxy Settings” tab and fill it as shown below: Proxy Address: ems04.your-freedom.de Port: 8080

For proxy address, you can use other freedom servers like ems01.your-freedom.de, ems25.your-freedom.de or ems27.your-freedom.de instead of the one I wrote there.

5. Select “Account Information” tab and enter your username and password. If you don’t have any login details to key in here, go to www.your-freedom.net and register. You need to verify your email before your account becomes active.

6. Hit the “Save and Exit ” button. Now click on the “Ports” tab and check these boxes: - Socks 4/5 - Web Proxy - Use UDP for OpenVPN – OpenVPN.

7. Now go back to the “Status” tab and click on “Start Connection” You should be connected in no time. Your Freedom door icon opens when your connected and the red exclamation mark disappears. You have to wait for about a minute before OpenVPN starts. As soon as OpenVPN starts, the door icon opens a bit further. As soon as the icon changes, start surfing the net.

NOTE: There are times when OpenVPN won’t start and you may change your server under proxy settings if this happens. Also, Your Freedom only gives you 15 hours of connection per week and I think you have a maximum connection time of 6 hours daily. Upgrading your account gives you more connection and as you can see in the image above, a better bandwidth. You can do that by logging in to your freedom account on their website and clicking on the Account link at the top. I’ve been using this for almost a month now and like I said earlier, it may stop working anytime soon. If it does, please check http://naijabrowse.blogspot.com for similar settings using an MTN connection or Your-freedom Forum at the above link. Note this is for those on low budget who need regular internet connection. Also for better speed it will be wise to subscribe to a paid package at the your freedom website or using one of the network of your choice..

How to Unlock your 3G Internet Modem the Easy Way

Are you using a 3G modem that has been locked and you will like to be using it with any other SIM card of other networks? Well, you can easily unlock it and turn it to a Universal 3G Modem. Further in this post, you will read about all you need to know, how you can unlock and how you can get the unlocking softwares.

Most 3G modems including MTN Fastlink, Glo 3G Dongle, Zain Data card are all locked to the network of their providers. This really sucks… If for example you are using MTN Fastlink modem and there is network problem, you will not be able to access the internet at all because you will not be able to use any other SIM card with your modem.

With many softwares out there, you can now unlock your 3G modem, which eventually turns it to a Universal modem. This will enable you to use the modem with any network you want, hence, it will save you the headache of thinking of how to get money to buy modems of other internet providers.

If you want to be making money unlocking modems phones and modems for people, then, you can any of the Modem unlocker but if you just want to unlock your own modem, you can do this also.

So, How Do you Unlock?

Whenever you want to unlock any modem, just input the IMEI number of the modem into the IMEI tab on the software and then click on ‘calculate code’. It will automatically generate the ‘Unlock Code’ and ‘Flash Code’. Copy the 8 digit unlock code on a notepad. The next thing to do is, insert any other network SIM card e.g. Etisalat SIM into your modem e.g. MTN modem, and plug in your modem into your PC USB port.

You will be asked to enter your unlock code simply because you are using a different SIM from the modem. Enter the unlock code that was generated by the Huawei Modem Unlocker and your modem will be unlocked automatically.

To browse the internet with that different SIM e.g Etisalat SIM on MTN modem, you will need to create a profile for Etisalat internet settings on your MTN modem. To do this, click on ‘Tools’, followed by ‘Options’, then click on ‘Profile management’ and click on ‘New’. Input the Etisalat internet settings as written below.

ETISALAT SETTINGS

Profile Name: Etisalat

APN: etisalat

Access Number: *99#

User Name and Password: You can leave them blank (empty)

After typing in the settings above, click on ‘save’ or ‘OK’. Go back to the initial page that comes up when you click on the modem icon on your PC desktop. Select the name you used in saving the Etisalat settings, then click on connect. You should be browing with your Etisalat SIMon MTN modem now.

Please note, the description above is not for you to browse for free! You will need to load your SIM card with enough credit before you can successfully browse the internet. Also note that you don’t need internet connections to unlock modems.

These are the settings for othe GSM networks.

GLO SETTINGS

Profile Name: GLO

Access Number: *99#

APN: glogwap OR glosecure

PASSWORD: wap OR gprs

USERNAME: wap OR gprs

MTN SETTINGS

Profile Name: MTN

Access Number: *99#

User Name: internet

Password: internet

Once again, the settings above are used for normal network operation, they are not free browsing settings or codes. What I am after here is to ensure your Hauwei USB modem either MTN, GLO, ETISALAT or ZAIN browses with any other network.

Please note: To use another SIM on another modem e.g. using MTN SIM on GLO Modem, you would need to load the SIM with enough credit on your mobile phone before inserting it into the Modem. After you do that, you can subscribe for any data plan you want to use.

If you are having any difficulties with unlocking your internet modem, it is either that you do not have the software or you don’t know how to use the software. That’s not a big deal anyways. Introduction to Google Adsense for Beginners: Article 1

Google Adsense is a quick and easy way to monetize your website. With Adsense you can display text and image ads that are targeted to match the subject matter of a website page.

This means that if you create an article covering ‘DotNetNuke Skins’ the ads from Google Adsense will display DotNetNuke related advertisements.
You earn money from the advertisements on a cost-per-click basis. The amount that you earn per click varies dependant on the keyword and the number of advertisers bidding for that keyword.
The Advertisements
The adverts displayed by Google come from the Google Adwords service:
This is where advertisers can bid to display their advert whenever a user searches on Google for a certain keyword. An advertiser also has the option to display their advertisements on the publishing network (websites that display Google Adsense).
Displaying Google Adsense
You can choose from a variety of advertisement banner sizes to display on your website along with options for customizing the colour of the text adverts. This allows you to easily format the advertisements to match the design style of your website.
Once you sign up for a Google Adsense account you can configure the banner style and colours that you wish to use. Google will supply you with the JavaScript code that you need, all you have to do is paste the JavaScript into the source code of your website.
How Much Can You Earn?
There are several factors that affect how much you can earn from Google Adsense. Some Adsense publishers earn a five figure income each month whereas others earn a few dollars per month. Your income from Adsense depends on:
* The cost per click for each advertisement
* The number of visitors / page views your site receives
* CTR – Click Through Rate for the ads
You have to earn $100 or more before Google will issue a payment to you. The total is rolled over each month until you exceed $100.
Adsense Tips

If you view the resources at the end of this article there are several links to articles already created that outline tips for increasing Adsense revenue. Here I will outline the main tips:
Ad Placement
The position of the Adsense advertisements is very important for increasing click through rates. Google have created a heatmap to help you decide the best placement for your ads.
Number of Ads
You are allowed to display up to 3 ad units on a page and a single link unit. If you can, make the most of this and display all of these ads using different combinations of banner sizes and locations across your page.
Colour of Ads and Blending
Research has found that the best CTRs are achieved by blending the advertisements to match the style of your website design. For instance, remove all of the borders from the ads and change the colour of the text links to match the colour of the links within your own website. This helps to create the perception that the links are part of the page and not advertisements.
Other techniques are to place images alongside the advertisements in order to grab the attention of the visitors’ eye. Be careful with these techniques though as Google is known for banning publishers who try to trick visitors to click on the adverts.

Blog Monetization Outside the Box

Someone once told me that the only way to make money with a blog is to sell massive amounts of text links. “There’s no other way,” he said, and he was resolute in his opinion.

I couldn’t change his mind, so I just listened and nodded my head. I didn’t bother to argue, even though I knew he was wrong. I know plenty of people who make money online and they don’t do it by selling text links. Yet lots of people seem to think that the only way to make money with a blog is through text link sales. When I hear people say this, I often think to myself, “You only think this way because you aren’t thinking outside the box. You aren’t being creative enough.”

Don’t get me wrong. Text links can be good money. I’ve sold text links in the past, and I know many sites that still do. Those sites still rank highly in Google, and they still have good PageRank. Sites that sell text links are controversial, especially after the JC Penny controversy, and I won’t get into whether or not you should sell text links.

This post is about a larger issue: the idea that without text links, you can’t make money online. I think that is a great fallacy and it is a line of thinking that is perpetually argued by those who are stuck in the box.
Outside the box

When most people think of the phrase, “think outside the box,” they imagine a big boardroom of people brainstorming the next big idea. There’s some guy at the head of the table going, “Come on, people, we need to think outside the box on this one!” and then everyone at the table looks around nervously at each other, unsure of what to do.

However, thinking outside the box, as contrived of a statement maybe, is the only way to succeed with a blog.

When most people think of monetization, they think AdSense, sponsored posts, affiliate sales, or text links. But the biggest sites in the world don’t use any of those techniques. They get more creative than that.

Let me give you two examples.

First, take a site like Zen Habits by Leo Babuta. It’s a popular site on simple living that probably gets over 500,000 visitors per month. But it didn’t start that way. Leo grew the site every day, and he has made it a point to never sell advertising on the site. It is completely ad-free, and his site eventually allowed him to quit his job and focus on what he loved doing.

So what is on his site? Ebooks. Leo created a trusted brand and now people buy his books to learn more. The site even got him a real, physical-book deal. By focusing on delivering what his readers wanted, Leo was able to develop a following of loyal fans that supported him by buying his products.

Everyone has an ebook these days, but the most successful ebooks are completely unique. For example, everyone seems to have an ebook on how to travel the world these days, but I decided to think outside of the box. I launched a new ebook that offers a bit of a spin on the traditional travel ebook by lining up travel companies and offering exclusive discounts in the book worth over $700 USD. Now, my book is more than just another travel book on the internet. I found something people weren’t doing, I did it, and I also created a better way for my readers to save money.

Secondly, look at the lifecaster, iJustine. All she does is video-blog her life. She didn’t just start a website and think, “I’m going to sell text ads.” No, she did something unique and cutting-edge. She thought outside the box. (And the fact that she is a beautiful blonde certainly helps!) She started doing crazy stuff online like singing and dancing in Apple stores and she got a great following. Now, she gets sponsorships and speaking deals. (After all, you can’t put text links on YouTube!)

Take guest blogging, for example. I focus on travel, but this isn’t a travel site. I guest blog on finance blogs, life hacking sites, and a wide range of other topics. I do this to leverage my knowledge into other fields, because, after all, everyone likes to travel and everyone likes to save money. So when I blog on other niches, I let people know I’m an expert in travel to people who would never have come into my own niche on their own. But many bloggers never do this. They only stay in their niche—but if you do this, you have nowhere to grow. Think laterally. Blog in niches that are similarly related. Don’t always get stuck in your niche.
Experimentation pays

It’s important to continue acting outside of the box. You should always be trying something new. In the words of Thomas Edison, “I didn’t fail; I just tried 1,000 ways that didn’t work.” You must be willing to experiment, take risks, and lose in order to finally win. I’ve tried Facebook ads, AdWords, guest posting, using AdSense, not using AdSense, Facebook ads again, different hostel booking engines, and flight engines in order to see what works and what doesn’t. I’ll try new products and services. I am always testing. I’m always experimenting to find that perfect mix.

If you limit the online game to text links and banner ads, you will fail. My friend is right. You won’t make any money. Even with over 100,000 visitors a month, I still have trouble attracting banner ads. The ad space in travel just isn’t there yet. So I got creative, I found ways to expand my audience beyond just travel blogs, and I figured out how to expand my income beyond text ads. I experimented. I tried. I failed. I keep trying. I keep failing. I keep experimenting. And in the long run, I succeed.

There are many ways to make it online. Those who have made it have done it by bucking conventional wisdom and thinking outside the box. They got creative. They went right when everyone was going left. If you also want to make it with your blog, you must do the same. Narrow thinking won’t help you last on the Internet. Be bold. Be daring. And when you are, you’ll be successful.

How to Make Excess Money on the Internet that Works: Vol.1

You've probably seen a lot of articles already (including here at eHow) on making money on the internet. This one pulls it all together, and separates the good, the bad, and the ugly. You CAN make money online, and NO, not everything out there is a scam.

I'll be updating this regularly (most recent update is Autumn 2010), so you might want to bookmark it, and check in once a month or so.

I make about $3,500 a month on the internet. Not quite enough for me and my family to live on, but a nice addition to my income just the same. It's pretty easy, and pretty quick, to get a SMALL income stream started. It takes time and effort to build it up. Might as well get started today.
**Take stock of what you have to offer**

If you are a writer, programmer, designer, or photographer, there are oodles of opportunities for you. If you have a speciality of any sort -- carpentry, raising kids, planning vacations or weddings, playing Guitar Hero 3 -- you can get paid for your expertise.

Even if you think all you can offer is time, there are plenty of opportunities for you as well.
**Scan the available steps**

I've listed a lot of options in the steps that follow, all of them legitimate. Pick the one that seems the best fit for you and your skills, and start exploring.
**Freelance Work**

If you have a skill to offer, check out the various freelance sites (sometimes called "personal outsourcing"), like elance.com and guru.com (see the Resources section for the links I mention).

You can post your skills at these sites, so potential customers can check you out, and you can also look around for freelance projects that others have posted.

There are tons of opportunities for freelancers, in very varied fields. Common projects, though, are writing, computer or graphics design work, creating web pages, programming, writing brochures or reports, illustration, photography, and so on.

Pay can be pretty good, especially after you've earned a quality rating at one or more of the freelancing sites. At the same time, though, keep in mind that you're competing with freelancers from around the world.

Take a look at the "How Elance Works" video on their main page to get a quick overview.
**Try Writing Web Content**

There are a quite a number of ways to take your skill as a writer and turn it into cash.

One of them is right here at eHow. Write brief "How to" articles on any topic of your choosing, and get paid for the article. The more popular the article, the more income you can expect. A good article will bring in $50 per year or more. Write 10 top-notch articles, and that's $500. A hundred articles...you get the picture.

I can't say enough good things about eHow. To my mind, it is the best income generating opportunity available. Google the term 'ehow101' to learn more about how to make it work.

**Write Product Review**

ConsumerSearch.com, a site owned by the N.Y. Times, pays freelance writers a minimum of $350 per article for product reviews. While that sounds like good money (and it is...and you can earn even more than that!), their particular brand of reviews requires good research and writing skills, and takes a lot of work. Check 'em out at consumersearch.com/jobs.
**More writing opportunities**

--At SoftwareJudge.com, write reviews of select software products...top reviews earn up to $50 each.

--Product Reviews. You may be familiar with epinions.com, but did you know they pay cash for good quality reviews. You won't get rich, but you can get started.

--Suggest domain names according to site descriptions at Pickydomains.com Get $25 for each name that is chosen.

--At Xomba.com, write anything you feel like, and collect 50% of any advertising income from Adsense clicks on your page.

--Become a fledgling journalist at examiner.com, and cover a special topic area in your neck of the woods...they pay pretty well.

--Other writing sites include associatedcontent.com, firehow.com, helium.com, and Squidoo. In fact, one of my eHow colleagues has put together a very nice Squidoo 'lens' with 101 sites where you can get paid to provide content...check it out in the Resources section.
**Check out Q&A Sites**

I earn much of my income as an online researcher, answering folks questions on everything under the sun: investments, market research, divorce law, homework help...you name it. If this sounds like your cup of tea, here are some resources to explore:

--The Association of Independent Information Professionals (aiip.org) can help you build you own Q&A website and business. I've built my research business at xooxleanswers.com, and it is a steadily growing source of income for me.

--I also work with Uclue.com Though they are not accepting new researchers right now, it's worth a look to see how a well-developed Q&A site works.

--Another Q&A site is JustAnswer, and they offer small payments for answers to questions.
**Earn money from your own blog or website**

The key is to generate as much traffic as you can, and to have your visitors click on ads and affiliate links. The more people visiting your site, clicking on ads, and buying affiliate products, the more income you can earn. As good as this sounds, income is generally more a trickle than a flood. But again, steadily building your site (or sites), and building traffic, is the key to generating a steadily growing stream of income.

Google Adsense is the most commonly used service for placing banner and text ads on blogs and websites. As I've learned to maximize Adsense income over the years, I've come to recognize this as one of the best income-generating opportunities available.

You can also incorporate in-text ads (the colored, underlined text with small pop-up ads). I like InfoLinks.com for this, and Kontera.com is another commonly used service.

Affiliate ads usually pay whenever a sale is made for a product. Amazon.com has one of the most well-known affiliate programs that all you to sell books or other Amazon products on your site or blog, and earn a cut of the sale.

Other good affiliate resources are Commission Junction at cj.com, LinkShare.com, and AssociatePrograms.com.
**Blog With the Best of Them**

If you don't have a site of your own, starting a blog is pretty easy at sites like Blogger.com, and Wordpress.com. Blogs make money through online advertising and affiliate sales, such as through the Amazon.com affiliates program. Blogger makes it very simple to automatically place Google Adsense ads on your blog.

**Sell your photos**

At sites like istockphoto.com and shutterpoint.com you can upload still photos or videos for sale, and receive a royalty payment every time someone makes use of your content.
**Take Online Surveys**

I mention survey work with a good deal of trepidation...the surveys are tedious, the pay is meager, and there are many sites that are dubious, or out and out scams.

The most legitimate operation I know is GlobalTestMarket.com. They offer real surveys, and they pay real money. Again...tedious, and earning takes a long, long time.

CashCrate.com also pays users to take online surveys. They strike me as legitimate, but I confess, I don't have any first-hand experience with it, so approach with caution...

SurveyScout.com is another possibility, but unlike CashCrate, they charge a membership fee before you can get started (Boo!). I've also heard some negative feedback from users of this site, so proceed with caution (if you proceed at all!).
**Teaching and Tutoring**

Search on [ Online tutoring ] and you'll uncover dozens of sites in this booming corner of the internet. Many accept applications for online tutors, with variable rates and topic areas. Two to consider are tutor.com and ehomeworkhelp.com
**Check into online "Jury Duty"**

Here's an odd one. Lawyers looking for feedback on how a case will play before a jury can make use of online e-jury sites to solicit input from the type of average citizens that show up on juries. Yes, you get paid. Fees for complex cases can run over $50, though $20 is more typical. To serve as an online juror, check out onlineverdict.com, or trialpractice.com.

Be aware, though, that none of the sites I've registered at has ever actually contacted me for a jury case, so I'm not sure just how active these services are. If anyone knows more about them, please leave a remark in the Comments.
**Become a virtual office assistant**

At TeamDoubleClick, you can sign on for temporary jobs as an office assistant, handling correspondence, emails, bookkeeping, data entry, and other office jobs. Think of it as an online temp agency for virtual work. Pay is varied, but you are not obliged to take jobs that don't meet your financial needs.
**Play games**

At moola.com, you can get paid to play.

This is probably the strangest one yet, and I can't personally vouch for it (I've only tinkered with the site), but it looks legitimate. Moola starts you off by giving you a penny, which you can then double, and double again, through a variety of games and activities.

Presumably, they make oodles of money through ads, and are willing to throw some of it your way by participating in their zany set of games and marketing gimmicks. They call themselves a "Massively Multiplayer Rewards Game". It's too complicated to explain here, but worth a look.
**Participate in crowdsource design**

"Crowdsourcing" is the buzzword for getting a lot of people to do your work for you. If you're good at designing things like t-shirts, logos, fancy fonts, and other graphics, take a look at the challenges at 99designs.com and threadless.com.

If your design is chosen, you can collect hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
**More blogging opportunities**

How does $100 a month sound for writing a few blog posts every week? That's what you can be paid (actual range is $84-140) if you get accepted as a blogger at Creative Weblogging. They are a large blog network, and seem to have mastered the art of monetizing their many sites. All they need are people to write them, and keep the content fresh.

**Earn with any type of content**

Blogging, articles, photos, video, you name it. Flixya offers 100% of ad revenue to anyone who posts at their website (you need to have your own Google Adsense account to participate). Words, pictures, videos, whatever ya got. Post it, bring in some traffic, and collect some ad clicks. (Haven't tried it yet myself, but Flixya has a good reputation).
**Just Visit**

Another site that pays for content is mylot.com, but they also promise earnings everytime you use the site!. They also pay for referrals. Haven't given them a test run yet, so use them with caution, but they seem worth exploring, at least. If you have experience with them, please post a comment, below.
**Listen to music**

At slicethepie.com, you can get paid for listening to music.

Say what!!! Yep, listen to upcoming artists, and review their music. The more reviews you write -- and the better you are at spotting new talent -- the more you can get paid. Some folks are pulling in several dollars per review.
**Typing and Dictation**

If you have good typing skills, consider Speak-Write.com, an online dictation service.
**Stay focused**

You can participate in online focus groups at 2020research.com, where you review a product you've used, or discuss an issue of interest to you. Payment ranges from about $50-150 per session. Participants are typically asked to join a group once or twice a year.
**Work for Google**

Ha, ha...couldn't resist. But you can earn through Google by posting content at Google Knol.

This online encylopedia-like site is a place where anyone can contribute content, and you can "monetize" your efforts by placing Adsense ads on your article to generate revenue. I wrote a Knol about eHow. You can see it by searching on the term ehow101.
**Review websites for usability**

You can get paid for reviewing websites. Usertesting.com pays $10 per website review, where you provide feedback on quality and usability. It's not open-ended...you have to be selected to test, based on your demographic profile.
**Earn money reading emails**

Really! Of course, there are ads involved, and you might be asked to click a few things, but it's not difficult. Expect to get 5-10 emails a day (more, if you register multiple email addresses), and earn a few pennies per email. Check out InboxDollars.com.
**Try a little bit of everything**

Genuinejobs.com is a legitimate work-at-home (telecommuting) site that lists hundreds of jobs, none of which require a fee, and many of which can be done online. Registration is simple...worth checking out.
**Write for the NY Times**

Really! The Times owns two sites that regularly hire writers.

I already mentioned ConsumerSearch.com up above, a site that uses freelance writers to create detailed reviews of common consumer products...minimum pay is $350 per write-up, and they do a lot of hiring.

About.com, another Times property, hires writers as guides. These positions, paying $725/month or more, are tough to get, but worth looking into.

At the risk of repeating myself, eHow is just about the best opportunity out there. Although getting on board through Demand Media Studios takes more work than at the eHow of old, it's still worth the effort.

8 Habits of Highly Excellent Bloggers

Ever wondered what are the traits of the top, successful and excellent bloggers?

I have. Since I started my blog, The Personal Excellence Blog, in 2008, I have studied top bloggers extensively. I read many articles on how to build a great blog. I listened to different bloggers say their piece. Through personal experimentation, I learned what works and what doesn’t work, and integrated them as blogging habits. It has given me great results. After a lot of hard work in the past 1.5 years, The Personal Excellence Blog has grown into an well trusted and established resource on how to achieve excellence in life. It has 3,500 subscribers, 5,000 readers a day, 110,000 page views a month, over 160 articles, a bundle of free ebooks and has been featured on CNN and AsiaOne.

While there’s still quite a way before my blog reaches the ranks of A-List blogs like ProBlogger, Zen Habits and Seth Godin’s blog, somehow I’m not daunted by what’s ahead. If the past 1.5 years have taught me anything, it’s that the top bloggers of excellence have 8 consistent habits – 8 habits, which, when we practice duly, are guaranteed to bring you results. It’s not a miracle, it’s not luck, nor is it an abnormality. By living in line with these 8 habits, you become a highly excellent blogger as well.

1) Deliver their best value in every article

As a highly excellent blogger, you don’t write articles with a little value or some value. No, you aim to deliver your utmost value every time you write. Never do you write for the sake of writing or post for the sake of updating. You make sure every word counts for something.

When I write my articles, whether it’s for my blog or it’s a guest post like this one, I put my best foot forward. My previous guest posts on Problogger took me a few days to write (with breaks in between). One of the commenters said I was “taking this guest post thing too seriously”, probably referring to the effort that was put in. That guest post in question was 3,000 words long (longer than most guest posts at Problogger), filled with step-by-step tips, links out to relevant resources and deep personal sharing. (Actually, this guest post is 3,000+ words long as well.)

I beg to differ. Have you ever thought about why you blog? Like really. Beyond reasons like to earn money or to have an alternate career. Why do you blog over the 1,001 possible things you can be doing? What do you strive to achieve? I blog because I see it as the fastest and most effective way to reach out to millions out there and help them achieve their highest potential. It’s more than just blogging to me – it is my life purpose and personal mission. For every article written, there is someone who is genuinely looking for it to solve a problem he/she is facing. Every article I write is an opportunity to touch others’ lives. If it takes X number of words to deliver a message, I’ll write X number of words. If it takes X number of hours, I’ll spend X number of hours. There is no compromising on the quality.

Of course, not every blogger sees blogging as their “calling”, and you certainly don’t have to see blogging as a calling to succeed. There is no right or wrong reason. You just need to be absolutely clear of why you blog. Then live true to it. Make every article you write delivers top value to your readers.

There is no fixed format that dictates valuable content. It can be long or short; it can be in list, essay or story form; it can have text, images, video or a combination of them; it can be entertainment value, educational value or both. I’ve read articles of different permutations that deliver value all the same. If your article improves someone’s life after he/she reads it, then it has value.

Some questions to ask yourself as you write are:

What is the specific reader group I’m writing to?
Why would they need help in this?
What’s keeping them in this situation?
What and how can I write to help them?
How can I write in a manner that’s relevant no matter when and where they are reading?

If I don’t have anything substantial to say or add to the topic (sometimes it happens), then I don’t write about it. The internet has enough junk; it doesn’t need us to contribute to it. What the internet really needs is real content with real value. And doing so pays off. Readers recognize you as the “real deal” and they go to you for advice on your niche. Because I set such a strict quality filter, my readers can expect a certain standard in what I write at my blog and my guest posts. They quickly become loyal readers, even though there are hundreds of personal development blogs out there.

How about you? Do you write value-laden content? Who is the reader you are writing the next article for? What is the problem you are solving for him/her? If someone with this problem is reading your article, will it help them out of their situation? How is it going to benefit them?

2) Work harder than anyone else

Do you drive? Great if you do; if you don’t, just imagine for the next 5 minutes that you do drive. Let’s say you are driving on a normal, flat road. You press the accelerator for a few seconds, then as you reach a good speed, you stop accelerating. There’s no need to since the car is already moving at a steady pace. All you need to do is steer.

Now, let’s say you are at the bottom of a very, very steep and long mountain slope. What do you do? Do you accelerate for a few seconds then stop accelerating? No! You’re just going to stay stuck at the bottom of the mountain. Maybe you’ll move up a few centimeters, then you’ll immediately go back down when you stop accelerating. What do you do then to get up the slope? You keep pressing the accelerator, adding more power each second. Even though you may be stuck at first, it’s a matter of time before you overcome friction and gravity and drive up the slope. And as you add more power, you will move further up.

Turning your blog into a top blog is just like driving up a steep slope. You don’t just create the blog and expect others to come flocking in. You have to work hard to write powerful content, to earn readers’ trust and to get readership. I’m a big believer of hard work – Results don’t come if you don’t work hard. If you read The Dip (by Seth Godin) before, you would know there’s always a dip that comes with achieving big goals. To get past the dip and get what you want, you have to persevere and work harder (and of course, smarter) than anyone else to earn it. All top bloggers today worked extremely hard when they first started, and even when they achieve success, they continue to work hard to achieve greater heights.

3) Practice what they preach

When you are a highly excellent blogger, you lead by example. As a blogger, you are (indirectly or directly) a role model to your readers, and what you say or do influences people, more so than you imagine. Your readers look up to you for advice and guidance. It’s important you don’t just talk the talk. You have to walk the talk as well.There is nothing more powerful than being living proof of your results.

Running a blog called The Personal Excellence Blog is more than just writing articles about how to achieve excellence. It’s about living in excellence every moment. I’m extremely passionate about achieving excellence. From striving to be the best in what I do, to understanding what it takes to be the best and live our best life, to helping others achieve excellence for themselves. Our readers look toward us as a testament of what’s possible for themselves – possibilities of what can be achieved, boundaries that can be removed, limits that can be broken. Hence, while I normally push hard toward my goals, I push even harder for my readers. I don’t try to teach my readers how to solve a particular problem until I have resolved it in my life, first and foremost, just like I don’t try to advice them how to achieve a certain result if I have not first achieved it. If we want others to listen to us, we need to practice what we preach first and be living proof that what we preach works.

4) Don’t write to please

You blog to drive a message. You don’t write to please the world. You know that no matter what you write, there will always be people who will disagree with what you say. As Timothy Ferris puts it, “10% of people will find a way to take anything personally. Expect it.” If you stand for something, you will have haters.

Average bloggers try to please people with their writings. They over-analyze what readers will want to hear and they write to be accepted. But as a highly excellent blogger, you don’t do that. You don’t shy away from writing controversial topics, but you don’t write about controversial stuff for the sake of stirring controversy either. You write about what you believe in. You stand by what you say even when others disagree. At the same time, you are also not afraid to admit when you are wrong.

I have written stuff before which others disagree. Things like life philosophies, relationships, specific advice, etc. I listen and I take the feedback accordingly when there is merit, but I don’t change for the sake of conformance. Every reader is different – if you change yourself to fit every reader who disagrees, you become just an average and you lose your voice amongst the masses. There’s enough sheep in the world – we don’t need more sheep, we need more leaders.

Find your voice by discovering your inner self. Deal to deal with critics (Read: 8 Helpful Ways To Deal With Critical People). Don’t change your views or what/how you write to please others. Try to please everyone, and you end up standing for nothing.

5) Keep things real

I see 2 types of bloggers out there – there are the bloggers who are genuine. They keep their writings real and are down-to-earth. These are the bloggers like Darren Rowse and Leo Babauta. I have deep respect and admiration for them. Then there are the hyped-up bloggers who have a penchant for portraying themselves as bigger than they are, overhype what they write and make over-exaggerated claims about what they are selling. I don’t know how you feel about them, but I avoid them like the plague.

Readers are smart. Perhaps you might entice them with big claims and bold words at the beginning. However, just like motivational seminars that fail to deliver results beyond the short-term, readers will realize in the long-term you have nothing real to offer. They see past the marketing fluff and turn to the bloggers who keep things real and deliver what they promise on.

As a highly excellent blogger, you don’t exaggerate, you don’t lie, you don’t overclaim nor overpromise. I see this as respecting your readers. You say things the way they appear; you portray facts as they are and let the facts speak for themselves. You are truthful and honest. You keep things real. Your readers appreciate this honesty, and they stick with you as a result.

6) Not afraid to be vulnerable

As a highly excellent blogger, you are not afraid to share things about yourself – things you may not be proud of. You are not interested in creating a veneered image of yourself. It’s about what benefits the readers. If sharing an unglamorous side of you will help improve readers’ lives, you will gladly do so. You open parts of your life as case studies, so others can learn where you may have erred.

The average blogger on the other hand, is concerned about how others think about him/her, and refuses to write about anything that can be seen as an disadvantage to him/her. His/her obsession with safeguarding his/her personal image stops him/her from going all the way to become a highly excellent blogger.

In my blog, I openly share about myself and my life – the upsides and especially the downsides. For example, I have written about times when I was down and out, my past experiences of disappointment (and how I overcame it), heartbreak (and how I moved on) and woes of being single in the modern society. Most people are adverse against sharing their shames, thinking it’ll make them vulnerable and look “weak”. I’m not afraid to write about them because being vulnerable is part of what makes us human. I believe everyone has that side in them – it’s just a matter who is more honest and upfront about it. If you are confident about who you are and what you stand for, there’s nothing to be fearful of.

Subsequently, it is the times when I share my worst experiences that my readers gain the most insights for themselves. Readers take the time to write personal comments and emails sharing in detail how the articles have opened their eyes to similar situations they are going through. If showing my vulnerabilities can help improve even just one person’s life, I say it’s well worth it.

Of course, it’s not about being vulnerable for the sake of being vulnerable. There has to be a point behind writing it. Every time I write about such experiences, I share how I overcame that episode and steps readers can take to work on it too. This way, there are actionable outputs and it doesn’t become just a nice-to-read story. You are more than just a story teller. You weave a message in what you write too.

When you open up more about yourself, that’s when you bond with your readers. People will benefit from your sharing and your real readers appreciate what you do. Mutual respect and trust is built. Whenever I open up about a part of my life, my readers would similarly open up to me too, sharing their personal stories, parts of them which even they admit they don’t share with others.

7) Keep upgrading themselves

As a highly excellent blogger, you don’t rest on your laurels even if you are an authority figure in your niche. You keep upgrading yourself to maintain your expertise. This helps you to continuously innovate and provide expert opinions so you remain as the authority. Problogger is a great example. While Darren runs the biggest blog on blogging, he doesn’t take his success for granted. He’s always seeking readers feedback, improvising on those feedback and writing new content on how to create better blogs.

Upgrading yourself is not just a one-time act – it needs to be an ongoing aspect of your life. How can you do that? My personal tips:

Subscribe to the feeds of top players in your niche. I subscribe to all A-List personal development blogs so I can learn from the best.
Set aside time every morning/night to read their new articles. Learn from how they write and what they write about. Get top insights.
Read the best books out there (in your niche). I borrow mine from the libraries.
Network with top bloggers (in your niche).
Openly ask for feedback from readers and fellow bloggers on how you can improve
Work on those feedback to become better

8) Transform lives with their writing

This is an extension of Habit #1 (Deliver their best value with every article) but it is important and distinct enough to be an individual habit by itself. As the top, excellent blogger, you write content that has the power to change readers’ lives.

How do you know if your content is changing lives? When your readers start telling you so. Majority of blog comments hover around “Great post! I especially like point XX about YY…” or “Thanks for writing this, it’s very useful”. These are great comments no doubt, but I see them more as courtesy comments. Yes your writings are helpful, yes they are informative, but are the readers going to apply any of the things that are written? Most of the time, probably not. Many forget what they just read and nodded to as soon as they click away.

Powerful content on the other hand, has the ability to change lives and trigger readers to take action immediately. When you get comments from readers on how your writings have transformed them and triggered them to make life changing decisions, that’s saying something. I’ve readers who told me how reading my articles has made them quit jobs they dislike, (re)discover their purpose in life and (re)ignited them to take action on their dreams. Some of the most powerful feedback I’ve ever received includes a reader who found hope from reading my articles (after his brother passed away), and readers who broke up with their partners and/or friends (who are bad matches) after reading my article on “How to know it’s time to move on from a relationship”.

When your content is triggering others to make life-changing decisions, that’s when you evolve to more than just a blogger. You are now a leader and beacon of inspiration and hope to your readers.

So how do you transform lives with writing? There is no hard and fast rule, but here are some of my tips:

Write from your heart
Start with your readers in mind. Put your readers’ needs before all else.
Do not afraid to share your vulnerabilities (Habit #6)
Understand the real problems people are facing. Make sure your writing solves the problems.
Tap into a relevant insight from your life. Share how you overcome a similar problem.

I can’t remember many things as I’m a rather forgetful person, however some things when done can be easily remembered because of the FEELINGS and EXPERIENCES attributed to them.

It could be simple things like watching a great movie, or doing something “out of the ordinary” than what you’ll normally do.

For example, I travel often and hardly watches movies on the plane as I’ll be on my computer. I do remember 3 months back when I did decide to watch 3 movies in a row though. Really enjoyedWolverine too. Brings out the animal in me

Just yesterday, I caught Shrek Forever After in 3D and it was GREAT. Really nice kids movie that made me feel young and happy again.

How to install a new XML template to your Blogger blog

I just stumbled on to something somewhere on the web.
As i have used it, and it worked for me. I feel obliged that i should share it with you.
Here is an example of a blog i used it to change the entire layout.

If you're bored of the generic templates supplied by Blogger, you can easily upload a customised XML template.

Here's a step by step guide.

1-Download your favorite Blogger XML template to your computer. If the template is contained in a zip file, ensure you have extracted the XML template.
2) Log in to your Blogger dashboard and go to Template> Edit HTML
3) Ensure you back up your old template in case you decide to use it again. To do this, click on the "download full template" link and save the file to your hard drive.
4) Look for the section near the top where you can browse for your XML template:

5)Enter the location of your template and press "upload".
6)The HTML of your new template will now appear in the box below. You can preview your template or simply save to start using it!

30 Valuable Lessons Learned Using Social Media for Small Business

Do you own a small business? How long have you been using social media as a marketing tool and what have you learned?

In a little over a months time I will have owned my business for just about three years. When I began using social media some thirty six months ago, I had no real marketing background experience, and I certainly had never written a blog post, interacted in a forum, or sent a Tweet.

My social media evolution began with a simple foray into blogging as a way to try and rank well for some keywords related to my business. From there I expanded to niche forums, review sites, FLICKR, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.

Man! Just trying to keep up can be intimidating and overwhelming.

However, my number one goal has always been to create a distributed social media footprint with all of my online marketing activities pointing back towards my small business website.

After almost three years of working hard, learning continuously, making lots of mistakes, and monitoring successes, below are thirty valuable social media marketing lessons that I have learned through my experience. I hope they help you:

1. Location is dead. We have now fully entered into the Interaction Economy.

2. It does not pay to engage in ‘pissing contests’ on business review sites or in forums.

3. When used properly, a small video camera like a Flip and a standard digital camera (or just an iPhone), can be like having your own marketing department.

4. Instead of trying to be everywhere in the social media space, determine what online activities work best for your business and focus your attention there.

5. Search Engine Optimization(SEO) is important but it needs to be combined with a well distributed plan for Search Engine Visibility (SEV).

6. Conceptualizing and then defining your social media goals can help to keep you on track.

7. Social networking sites can be a tremendous time suck. Use a site like Egg Timer to help limit the time you spend interacting online.

8. Get to know the online influencers in your small business niche, as well as, the social media pros.

9. There is gold to be mined with Twitter Search if you are willing to use it to listen, engage, and provide value.

10. Uploading well titled and tagged videos to YouTube and photos to FLICKR can drastically improve your Search Engine Visibility.

11. Consistent small business blogging pays the greatest returns.

12. Technology changes daily. Read often.

13. You should not fear customer review social sites like Yelp and TripAdvisor. Rather, you should embrace them.

14. Helping people online when they least expect it can bring you great rewards.

15. Even on your worst day, you have to remember that every interaction counts.

16. Spamming and jamming your business down the throats of potential customers only drives business away.

17. Not everyone is going to like you, so be prepared to get flamed and read negative reviews.

18. Turn negative reviews into a positive by using them to help better define who your ideal customer is.

19. Your backstory matters and weaving it into your online business persona is important.

20. Social media is a lot like exercise. Doing a little bit consistently everyday will produce better results than one eight hour marathon session per month.

21. The people who criticize you the most for using social media to promote your small business are the one’s who are most afraid of embracing change.

22. One of the easiest ways for small business owners to measure social media ROI is to ask every customer how they heard about your business.

23. When starting your social media marketing efforts for your small business you will get frustrated. Try to keep a long term outlook like six months to a year.

24. Don’t discount the power of niche forums that are related to your small business.

25. Use Google Alerts to see who’s talking specifically about your business and anything related to your business.

26. If you are using social media as a customer service tool, when something goes wrong (and it always does!), being sincere, humble, and apologetic will be greatly appreciated by your future potential customers.

27. Utilizing free email lists like Help A Reporter Out (HARO) can help you find valuable public relations and news opportunities for your business.

28. Social media in the short term does not work. You must be in it for the long term and be persistent, consistent, and committed.

29. Anyone who owns a small business can ‘do’ social media, but NOT everyone ‘does’ it. (And that is your true competitive advantage.)

30. If you have a spare hour or two everyday to aimlessly surf the net, or sit and watch T.V., then you have more than enough time to commit to using social media for your small business.

Everybody is talking about blogging. What is it all about? It's like having some sort of diary or journal online. You tell the world about anything you want to talk about. It might be an article, opinions, a short video or perhaps promoting your products.
The great thing about blogs is that you are adding fresh content on a regular basis which Google loves. This is good because traffic to your blog is your lifeblood to be successful on-line.

There are two blogging platforms to choose from, WordPress and Blogger. So, which one is best?

o Blogger - The great thing here is that it is simple to set up, just follow the prompts. This is perfect for someone brand new. It is hosted by Google themselves and is free to set up.
The only problem is that you are not in control. Blogger can shut your blog down, so all that work you've done to create your blog has been lost forever! So in a nutshell the content is not yours.

o WordPress - This is not free, you will need a hosting account. Beginners have been known to have trouble setting up a WordPress blog with the confusion of plug-ins and widgets. A possible solution could be to outsource it which is fairly cheap to do.
With this type of blog there is no chance of you losing all your content. You are in control. The blog is hosted on your server and there is no fear of losing anything.

o Conclusion - If you are planning to be serious in your business, WordPress would be the one to go for. Remember if you want more control this is the option to take. However if you are a complete beginner you may decide to start on Blogger.
So there you have it two platforms. You can either choose the nice and easy, no complications or more control. The choice is yours.

Have you heard about twitter? If you aren’t familiar with Twitter, it’s a free online service where people can post very brief updates (up to 140 characters), and other people who are interested can follow and comment on those updates. 4)Another mistake is to write about a topic you don't care about just for money. You have to be able to sustain your own interest over the long term, or blogging about the topic will be too much of a chore to keep up.

You can blog about anything that you want and whats more its possible to earn an income from the blog as there are many companies you can join for free who will supply advertising and split the revenue with you. Google Adwords is one, by placing some code from there Adsense program on your blog then people who advertis with Google in there Adwords program will see their Ads supplied to interested websites through the Google Adsense program. One is for Advertisers and the other for publishers. Google takes a cut and you get a cut. The publisher gets his Ad in front of visitors who are interested in the same thing as the content of the page they are viewing and the publisher gets paid for the privilege, this is by Pay per click which means the publisher gets paid a share of what the advertiser paid Google for every click on the Ad. Don’t think this will easy and that all you have to do is advertise and click on your own Ads. Here are some ideas to help you make the most of your time on forums...

1. Find forums in your niche - Pretty much every niche has multiple discussion groups people visit. You should be able to find the top two or three without too much difficultly. Simply type in your niche plus the word forum into Google, and you should get plenty of results.

2. Choose your name carefully - Many times you'll see people with user names like JK345Xd5 or Bunny864. These might have meaning to the person who created the user name, but the are meaningless to the rest of the world. It is a good idea to pick a user name that makes sense. Like your name maybe.

3. Complete Your Profile - Fill out your profile completely. Add a picture, contact information and any web addresses you have set up. You would be surprised how many people will visit your profile and then visit your webpage.

4. Read the rules - One of the first things you should do is find the post with forum rules. Almost every forum will have a sticky post with the rules you are expected to follow. If you want to be a good citizen in this community, it's important to read the rules. This will keep you out of trouble, and possibly prevent you from getting banned.

5. Take it easy - Resist the urge to jump on your new discussion group and start posting. It you are too aggressive here you will most likely run into some problems. I find it best to check out each place, and get a feel for how the community interacts with each other.

6. Become a valuable member - One of the best ways to get lots of traffic is to become a valued member of the community. Adding valuable content, answering questions and being a good forum citizen will do wonders. Get in there interact and socialize

7. Use Your Signature File Right - First make sure they allow signature files. There are discussion groups that don't allow sig files, and it's your responsibility to know this. Once it's OK go head and add a link to your blog to your signature file. Try to avoid adding many site to your sig file. In this case more is not better.

There are many ways to make money online. If you have been reading my blog for some time now, you know that I make money by building micro niche websites that target high paying keyword phrases which people actively search for in search engines. Money is earned by monetizing the content using programs such as Google AdSense. With that said, here is another spin on how you can make money online by building micro niche websites.

In this article, I am going to show you how you can easily build a micro niche lawn care website that can be used to target localized traffic in your home town. The difference between what I am going to show you today, compared to other articles I have written covering this topic is how you get paid.

Typically, in the past, when I cover the topic of building micro niche websites, the method of earning money is with using programs such as Google AdSense. The object to the game with building micro niche websites is to develop a site, write content, and rank for profitable keywords that yield a high monthly search count. In my experience with doing keyword research, finding keywords that closely match this perfect blend can be challenging.

So what would happen if you build a site based off researched keywords that have a decent volume of monthly searches, have a very low level of competition, but don’t pay very well? Well, I believe that the result would end with the site earning much less compared to other micro niche websites that target keywords that yield a higher per click. That’s obvious right? With that said, let’s think out of the box for a moment. It is easy to have narrow vision on making money online. In actuality there are many ways to make money online. Furthermore, there are many ways to make money online with a micro niche website. It isn’t always about Google AdSense, right?

Here is the idea I have and want to share with you. Recently, I hired a lawn care guy to start cutting my lawn. I found him because he left a flier in my mailbox and I decided to call him. Is that effective marketing? Maybe so… but in my opinion, that is a lot of hard work to travel across town inserting fliers into mailboxes all day. But, the lawn care guy really doesn’t know any other form of marketing. Also, it is obvious that he doesn’t know about search engines, especially Google. That is where you kick in! And no… you’re not going to pitch him on building a website for him. I mean you can, but that in itself leads to an entire different article.

The idea is to build a micro niche website that targets localized lawn care keywords within your home town. Unlike other micro niche websites that earn money using Google AdSense, the localized lawn care site that you build will earn money when lawn care businesses pay you to be listed on them. Your goal is to build a localized lawn care website and get the site to rank well for localized keywords typical of what people would search for in Google to find lawn care businesses in your local home town. Once that happens, then you have created something that lawn care businesses need: An affordable and effective place to advertise their business.

Once you have built and established ranking in search engines for the localized keyword phrases you want, then it is simply a matter of contacting the local lawn care businesses and presenting the amazing advertisement opportunity you have for them. You can easily present them with traffic reports that illustrate how much traffic your site receives. Most importantly, you can illustrate the level of “Quality Leads” your traffic can generate for them. From there, you would need to already have an established pricing structure. My suggestion would be to create your site as a simple one page design and offer 25 ad spots available and charge more money for the higher positions and decrease the price for the lower positions.

If you do the math, and assuming I did the math correctly, this one simple webpage could make a maximum of $1,625 per month, based off the pricing structure above. All this, because you created a site that provides an excellent medium for lawn care businesses to effectively advertise their localized lawn care services.

Here is one thing that may concern you, and believe me, it concerns me too. I hate cold calling. I am NOT good at sales, nor am I good at CLOSING DEALS. But that is ok! If you are like me, then you may find it a huge challenge to fill these ad spots up. Recognizing this is half the battle.

The solution: Ask a friend or family member to do it for you and offer them a percentage of the sales or an incentive to do so. For example: Let’s say that you’re a stay at home mom, very passive, and shy. You say to yourself, “There is NO WAY, I am going to pick up the phone and cold call!” Instead of stressing about it, ask your husband or boyfriend to do it each evening when he gets home from work. Tell him, “Honey, if you close these sales for me, you can get the 60 LCD Flat-Screen you have always wanted!”

The key element to realize is that you may be very good at doing what you do, such as building amazing websites. But you might not be good at doing other things, such as calling a lawn care professional with the aim of selling him an advertisement. My advice is for you to do what you do best, and then to find other people who do the other things best that you need in order to make your idea work. If you don’t have any problems with selling, then that just means more money in your pocket.

In summary, the concept behind this idea is to take a skill that you already know very well: Building Micro Niche Websites, and using this skill to earn money in a different way other than Google AdSense. By doing this, you will discover a world of keywords that deliver amazing amounts of traffic without worrying whether the AdSense clicks pay good or not. Also, doing something like this gives you the freedom to control and KNOW exactly how much your site can potentially make month to month. One last thing to mention is the fact that this method can work for many different localized business niches: Car Sales, Computer Repair, Day Care, Home Improvement, Heating and Air, House Cleaning, Landscaping, Plumbing, and more.

Additional Tips On Ranking

Here are some additional tips that can totally help you with ranking and dominating your localized search result page for lawn care keywords. Observe the screen shot below:

The first section comes from Google Maps. Did you know that local businesses are able to submit their business into Google Maps for free? When they do, their business pulls up on the map listings above the organic listings. You can get your micro niche lawn care web site listed here too! All you need is a physical mailing address and a phone number. I understand that you might not want to use your own mailing address. The solution: Get a PO Box, or a UPS Store Mailbox. I understand that you might not want to use your own telephone number. Solution: Get a free telephone number from places such as GrandCentral (coming soon). In the mean time, you can search for GrandCentral Alternatives. The process of getting your business registered and listed in Google Maps takes about two weeks. Once again, it is free and eventually you will take a spot on the map.

The next section is the Sponsored Links section. This is controlled with the Google AdWords Program. You may want to consider throwing in $50 to $100 dollars into the Google AdWords Program and at a minimum, at least observe the cost to include your site in this section as well. You may be surprised to discover how cheap the current bids are.

The last section is the organic ranking. I have provided you with many previously published articles that provide amazing tips on how to gain superior organic ranking. However, let me summarize a few things of importance.

Domain Name Selection

Don’t believe the hype. Choosing a domain name does influence your search engine ranking. Ideally it is best to choose a domain name that matches your target keyword phrase exactly. Examples would include: YourTownLawnCare.com, Your-Town-Lawn-Care.com, LawnCareInYourTown.com, Lawn-Care-In-Your-Town.com. In reference to the use of hyphens, I always select in this order:

YourName.com
YourName.net
Your-Name.com
Your-Name.net

Typically, I never purchase .org, .info, .me, or .biz domain names because they really don’t hold a lot of value and in my experience I don’t see a lot of these domain names pull up well in the search results.

Content Writing

Writing excellent and unique content is very important. The trick to writing content geared towards ranking for keywords is balancing a natural writing style with lightly packing in keywords and coming in un-detected by Google’s AI. Google is very smart and they can sniff out un-natural writing very easily. Some of the things that Google looks for are examples such as this:

The above is an example of keyword stuffing. Google does not like this because it doesn’t reflect natural writing and it is obvious that the content is geared towards targeting the keywords rather than providing anything useful for end users. A better way to write content that is useful while also balancing keyword targeting would be something like this:

The second example serves the same purpose as the first example. The primary difference is the fact that the second example is well written, natural, and does an excellent job explaining about the purpose of the site and what people can expect to see while also balancing the strategy of keyword targeting.

Keyword Density

Keyword density is another element that Google pays a lot of attention to. In my experience, the sweet spot keyword density percentage should be around 1.5% to 2.5%. Meaning whatever your primary keyword phrase is that you are targeting, you should NOT take up more than 1.5% to 2.5% of your actual content. If it exceeds this percentage, then it can put your content and ability to successfully rank for your keyword phrase at risk. You are welcome to use my favorite place for inspecting content keyword density.

The other element with keyword density is in how you choose to use your keyword phrases in your content itself. Various levels of WEIGHT are placed on where and how your keyword phrases are found within your content. In my experience, the most important areas to have your primary keyword phrases in a standard HTML document include:

title Tag
meta description
meta title
H1 and H2 Tag
a title Tag
img alt Tag
Strong Tag
permalink / URL

Let’s put all these elements into a simple example HTML document. Please observe below:

Primary Keyword Phrase

Paragraphs of text that should include your Primary Keyword Phrase. This content should be unique, very useful, and should provide excellent value and information to end users while also targeting your Primary Keyword Phrase.

In the above example, you can see how I have used the primary keyword phrase is the areas of the HTML document where they count the most. Your web page title should match your primary keyword phrase, your meta description and meta keywords should have an your primary keyword phrase included, an image should be named your primary-keyword-phrase.jpg, your image mouse over text should be your primary keyword phrase, your actual primary keyword phrase should be hyperlinked and the alt (or also referred to as your mouse over text) should be your primary keyword phrase, somewhere in your HTML document another instance of your primary keyword phrase should be encased in strong tags, your domain name itself / the permalink should be your primary keyword phrase.

This is SEO! That is why I have said many times in the past that people tend to over-complicate SEO. Creating a search engine friendly web page is nothing more than using proper HTML code and carefully writing content in a way that is natural but also creatively packs in the keyword phrases you want to target. Of course, the last elements include submitting your site into Google, Yahoo, and other search engines and registering your site with services such as Google Webmaster Tools and Yahoo Site Explorer. Additionally, link building is something that you should strongly consider doing as well.
