On December 9 from 4-6pm, you're invited to a special awareness event at the Josephs downtown store. This event is intended to educate people on how every purchase of a gemstone from Josephs results in global benefits for an entire country.

Jim Fiebig, the new sales manager for Josephs West Glen and the director of education for the entire company, moved to Madagascar with his wife in 2005 to start a gemstone tourism business to benefit the local population. He helped start the Devon Foundation which raises money to provide grants to the people of Madagascar to pursue a gemological career which costs about $500 when the average Malagasy family income is only about $300 annually.

Jim will be on hand at the December 9 event to walk people through the process of mining a gemstone to its sale at Josephs, emphasizing how many people benefit from this industry and what little it takes to give them greater opportunities.

We're celebrating summer by giving back to one of the many great organizations in Iowa and we need your help. During the month of July for every new “like” on our Facebook page we will donate $1 to Children and Families of Iowa (CFI). It's that easy. We're starting the month with 857 fans. About CFI

Children & Families of Iowa restores hope, builds futures and changes lives for thousands of Iowans every year. They’re making a difference for people who have nowhere else to turn.

CFI has been in town nearly as long as Josephs Jewelers. It was started in 1888 as a response to a growing need for safe, loving homes for abandoned, neglected and "unwanted" children in Iowa. It’s estimated that since 1888 CFI has touched over half a million lives.

From a small adoption agency serving a few hundred children to a statewide organization serving over 21,000 people last year alone, CFI has grown by adhering to one, basic principle: every child, every family deserves to be safe.

This tradition remains strong even today. Tough economic times are even tougher on those living with poverty, mental illness, addiction and family turmoil. As always, Children & Families of Iowa will be there finding new and creative ways to help Iowa’s families.
