I’m sorry my blogging has been quite irregular lately but I’ve been busy. Can’t complain, right?

Geneva Charity Ball photo booth

I had originally offered my services for the Geneva Charity Ball as I really liked their moto: «Having a good time doing good».

The concept of the evening was fun. To raise money, the organized an auction and raffle.

Regarding the photography, rather than shooting people eating, drinking, etc., I thought it would be fun setting up a booth for people to come and have their photo taken.

The setup was really cool (sweet vintage leather chairs, old frames, oriental rugs) and I had my computer to show the photos in real time. The feedback from the guests was incredible!

EasyJet in-flight magazine portrait

This was a lot of fun. I received an email from a global publishing company who needed to have a portrait taken for the in-flight EasyJet magazine.

They have a section called «Behind the Scenes» and every month they feature someone from the EasyJet staff. I took a picture of Mahmoud, he’s a maître de cabine. I would have ideally like to shoot him on board but due to security reasons, this was not possible.

When we arrived at the Geneva EasyJet headquarters, I immediately noticed the hanging inflated aircrafts. I had my shot!

Editorial assignment at Institut Le Rosey

The Times Educational Supplement wrote me an email and asked if I could cover a story at the most expensive school in the world: Institut Le Rosey.

It was fun and interesting walking around with the Headmaster and visiting the school, meeting the students, etc. It’s an impressive place and education seems to be top notch!

For privacy and security reasons, I am unfortunately not allowed to publish any pictures yet.

A wedding as a favor for some good friends

Thomas & Camille are old friends, I’ve known her over 20 years and him nearly 15!

So when they asked me to photograph the civil wedding, I couldn’t refuse!

It was a great ceremony and the cocktail party was absolutely perfect!

Food photography for a caterer in Geneva

This was an absolute first, shooting food. It was great though. The toughest part was not to eat what was presented on the table. Not only would the photos have been different, the food is stylized for the photo and thus, makes it inedible.

Oh well, at least the food fed my eyes…

Covered an event for an arts foundation in Geneva

I was recommended to this client by a friend. Although I don’t usually do event photography, the client called me Sunday evening for the next day. As I had no other shoot planned that day, I decided to take the gig.

I am not authorized to publish pictures. It’s a shame, the event was at the Four Seasons «Les Bergues» in Geneva.

SHOOT: Kite surfers in Moorea

While I was on my honeymoon in French Polynesia — more on that in a later post — on the island of Moorea, I saw some kite surfers in the distance.

As I really feel attracted to the sport, I discussed with some locals who told me this amazing spot was not far from the hotel and the surfers real nice. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to try it out myself during this trip but I thought I could photograph some kite surf action. So, one morning, Anka and I rented some bikes and rode to the «Plage des Tipaniers».

The site was amazing and I tried to capture these men and women dancing with the wind on the aqua blue lagoon water thanks to their colorful sails. Some of them noticed I was shooting and came real close to me, actually flying over me. Trying to capture the feeling of speed and lightness they demonstrate was a challenging task but I couldn’t get enough of it.

I hope these photos procure you a sense of warmth, airness and freshness for the gray winter days ahead of us!

This wallpaper is special to me as it brings back a lot of memories. The picture was taken from the Trump in Soho where Anka and I stayed for our wedding..

NEWS: Out of office

Hi everybody! I know the activity has been quite slow lately but a lot has been going on in my life. Therefore, I haven’t had much time to post.

I got married two weeks ago and I leave tomorrow for my honeymoon. I’ll be away for two weeks and no posts are planned other than the November wallpaper.

SHOOT: Dr. Fujiwara for UBC

Hi all, I am back from a crazy week in the city that never sleeps – more on that later – and I thought I would share with you guys a shoot I had before I left.

So, a few weeks ago I was contacted by a design agency in Canada. Their client, University of British Columbia, is launching a new website about some of their former students and their A-HA moments.

I was commissioned to photograph Dr. Makoto Fujiwara. He is an amazing scientist who works at CERN and he was part of the team that managed to trap antimatter.

Anyway, I met with Dr. Fujiwara at CERN and was given access to his lab. It was a great privilege and I tried to capture the essence of it.

Lighting conditions were tough, lots of mixed sources. I also had to work light as I had no idea, previous to the shoot, where we would go. So I decided to rely on a simple SB-900 in a 26” Lastolite softbox.

I had a lot of fun during the shoot. Dr. Fujiwara was really easy to work with and was nice enough to give me a quick tour of the lab.

To make things even better, I just heard back from UBC a few day ago and they are really happy with the pictures!

So, it’s October already and time for a new wallpaper! Although we’ve had glorious weather so far in Geneva, fall is here and that means winter is just around the corner.

And to most people in Switzerland as well as nearby France, winter rhymes with hitting the slopes.

This month’s wallpaper is a shot of the Mont-Blanc taken from Rochebrune in Megève.

TRAVEL: Berlin – architectural patchwork

As a photographer, discovering and visiting a city is always an opportunity to take pictures.

A few weeks ago, Anka and I went to Berlin and I was pressing the shutter button like a madman during long touristy walks. However, I didn’t want to merely share views of Berlin; I wanted to present a work that reflects my feeling about this incredible place.

Four days in Berlin are definitely not enough to get to know the city in depth, the kind of way you know a city when you live there and you become a local. Nonetheless, this short trip gave us a sweet taste of Berlin and I have been thinking, during the past few weeks, about all the things we’ve seen and experienced.

What really stuck with me is the architectural patchwork of this city. While discovering Berlin I felt, more than anywhere else, that architecture is some kind of time machine. I assume this particular feature of the city struck me because of my general and long-lasting interest in architecture and history. Walking through the streets and listening to our historian guide we were transported through the 20th century historical events from the constitution of Germany to the Cold War via the Nazi and 3rd Reich time straight to the 90′s new era. What an incredible melting-pot!

So here is my vision of Berlin: old, new, blurry, ornamented, megalomaniac, functional, destroyed, re-used, ever-changing.

PROJECT: Home

Through this intimate series of portraits I wanted to document the feeling of home.

Let me explain: I’ve always been a homeloving person. As much as I love going out, travelling and discovering new places, it always fills me with joy to come back to the place I can call home. A few months ago, when my Grandfather told me he was considering moving out of his apartment to a retirement home, I felt really sad for him as I know he is also a homeloving person. So when I went to visit him this past August at his new home, I was relieved to see he had made himself a cozy nest in this new environment.

While getting to know other elder residents, the idea of a series of portraits formed around this question:

«what would you choose to take with you, from your previous life, to feel at home?»

This series of portraits is about personalities, their environment and feeling home.

Many, many thanks to the great participants who agreed to let me into their worlds.

SHOOT: Louis Dreyfus Commodities

Hello, all! I’m sorry I haven’t posted much lately but I’ve been busy and away.

Here is a quick update regarding my commissioned work. Last week I was contacted to shoot a portrait of Mr. Schoen, CEO as well as Mr. Pic, Group Head of Regions and Operations of Louis Dreyfus Commodities. They are the 3rd most important trading company in the world and are based in Geneva, Switzerland. Here are the pictures published in this week’s Nouvel Observateur (French News Magazine) and some other pictures commissioned for internal publications.

It was great to work under such pressure. I had very little time to photograph these gentlemen and then retouch and deliver the pictures less than 2 hours later.

August did not have a wallpaper but that does not, by any means, translate into me quitting the wallpapers. They are back!

This photo was taken on the last day of my recent trip to the US. I was walking on the beach and thought it would make a great September wallpaper. It will sort of act as a reminder of the summer…
