What do you want to be known for?

High school and all its activities are winding down. No longer will I be known as the Mock Trial kid, of NHS Vice President. While the activities we have done in high school have influenced us, they no longer define us.
As I think about starting college, I try to figure out what I want to be known for? Some things are simple. I want to be known as an authentic follower of Christ. But other things are more difficult. Do I want to be known as the kid who still gets amazing grades or as the kid who knows everyone?
So, to the class of 2010, what do you want to be known for?

An Open Letter to Facebook

Dear Facebook,

I really am a fan of you. Most of my time on the internet is spent on you procrastinating. Most of the time it is fun to stalk other people and see what they're doing. But I'm afraid you've started to take too much control in our relationship. Your recent suggestions that I should “Reconnect with him” or “Make facebook better for her” are just getting a little too controlling. Another thing, because you now have a population bigger than the United States, you are getting rid of regional networks. Why? Finally, the biggest problem I have with you is Farmville. You have developed a game that is innocent, yet more addicting that World of Warcraft. Please fix these problems so that I can enjoy you more often.

Facebook, your suggestions started out useful and fun. They connected with potential friends and helped me find people that were on you. But then you decided to go further. You told me that I should post on other people's walls. Why? “To make Facebook better for them.” Isn't that your job? And Facebook, you forget that sometimes people die or break up. How do you think it makes a user feel when you suggest they reconnect with a loved one who has recently passed away? Or even better, you suggest I reconnect with that girl I just broke up with. How is that making Facebook better for either of us?

Facebook has 350 million users. That's a lot. But it doesn't mean that we should get rid of regional networks. I want to know if Michael Scott lives in Orange County by me or Orange County, Florida. It would be if the United States suddenly got rid of postal zip codes. There would be chaos. There is another factor, Facebook. You have forgotten about those people who take pride in where they live. You take away the regional networks and you take away their pride.

Finally, there is the abomination that is FarmVille. This application seems relatively innocent. However upon further examination, we both realize that this game is more addictive than the infamous World Of Warcraft. Yet you let it sit on your servers, gaining more and more popularity. You have a right to protect your citizens so do something!

Many will think that I have been too serious in this letter. But honesty is the best policy. Fix these problems so I can continue our friendship.

For some reason I have all of these ideas of how a senior is supposed to act. They're supposed to know what's going on, know what they're gunna do with their life, and have it all together.
Quite honestly, I have very few specific ideas concerning my future because I have so many opportunities. The on thing I know is that I don't want to waste any of them.

I want to change the world.
One 5th and 6th grader at a time.
One underclassman at a time.
One peer at a time.

I want to impact my school.
Welcome people to PCHS
No matter who they are

I want to be an example at church.
Provide someone to look up to
Like seniors did before me.

Elementary School... A look back.

Today I went back and visited my elementary school. I left in 4th grade to be homeschooled and hadn't been back in over a year.

It was surreal to walk the halls again and to think back about how big I felt back then and how little I really was. Two of my friends and I got to see our 4th grade teacher again. Everything seems so small now. As a senior, it's weird to think back 8 grades to when you were in fourth grade, just living life.

It's weird going there and seeing so many people that knew me. I saw people from karate, kids I lead at church, even people that have come into my work on a regular basis.

How long until I repeat this, except for my high school....

This weekend was "The Others" turn to own the weekend.
Honestly, I didn't know how it was going to go.
It was hard because we all go to different schools.
Meetings were harder to arrange and we didn't get to do everything we wanted to.
But God showed me that when he wants something done, He will use whoever is willing.
If you follow my blog or twitter, you know that I was speaking.
There were 900+ students.
I have never spoke in front of that many people before.

It was insane. The week before was a rollercoaster.
But, I know God used us.
The conversations that happened...
The questions that were asked...
The hope that was given...
Made it all worth it.

Reflections From New Mexico

The last couple days I've been thinking alot about New Mexico. It changed some people's lives which is awesome. i think for my it refined and strengthened the vision I see God shaping up for my future.

I feel confident in a couple things.
First, I feel like I am called to lead. Although I like to just follow sometimes and do my best from behind, I think this trip really helped cement the fact that I can lead. I can be vocal and lead. I always realized I lead best by example. I figure how can I ask someone to do something if I'm just "supervising"

Three things made New Mexico different for me. First, I was cut off from outside technology(texting and facebook). Second, I was connected to a group of people who worked with you and cared about you. Third, I was constantly ministering to people. Even back at camp, I was trying to help my village.

I've been thinking why do these things have to stop now that I am back in OC. I can utilize texting and facebook to help with the second two. The second seems the most important to me. I do have a small group I love, but I think I need to expand that circle of people I build friendships with. FInally, I want to be deliberate in my actions. In class, at work, with my friends, just on the street.

I'l be honest. I act different at school than I do at church.
But not in the way you're thinking.

At school, I'm the kid everyone knows. Like I have no problem having a fun time and being myself and not caring what others think. I love being that person, but somehow I can't be the same person at church.

At church, I still feel like I have to try and fit in. I don't know where this comes from. But I still feel it. Maybe it comes from being the kid from the "weird" school. Sometimes I wanna go to "regular" school, but then I realize why I LOVE high school.

While I am looking totally looking forward to college, I love the position my life is now and where it can go.
