Hood to Coast is a bucket list race for me and since I only started running in 2018, I thought it would be a long way off for me to run it. Well, Team World Vision runs this relay each year since (I believe) and a call to assemble team cam across Facebook. I answered the call, the challenge to run hills and uneven terrain is one thing, but I also agreed to a fundraising goal of $10,000 which looks like a mountain to me.

A Calling

It is not often in life that you have epiphanies, so when they happen, I pay attention. In 2018 the call for running the marathon with Free Church came from Steve Spear, and I answered. I trained and ran my first marathon. The next year, I also volunteered to run the Chicago Marathon, help lead our team at Free Church, while also running Knoxville Marathon. The mission and purpose of running with Team World Vision just make sense to me. I really have this sense of calling and God-given purpose to not only run but represent World Vision whenever I can.

South Sudan

The funds I raise will specifically help those in South Sudan this year. World Vision has helped over 1.3 million Sudanese and over 600,000 of those were children. Here is a quote from the World Vision website.

Our operations cover four major zones: Juba, Upper Nile, Warrap and Western Equatoria.

We were one of the few organizations that provided assistance during war to the displaced populations in what was then the Southern Sudan region of Sudan, until after the birth of the Republic of South Sudan.

The widespread violence during the country’s 5th anniversary of independence made the humanitarian emergency even worse. Food insecurity continues to plague over 7 million people and a recent UN report stated that an estimated 360,000 children under five suffer severe malnutrition.

You can read up on all the World Vision is doing in South Sudan here.

I Need Your Help

I am taking a leap of faith and donating all my side business and consulting income to Team World Vision and my goal for Hood to Coast. This is substantial because I stopped doing my side business some time ago, but I am going to roll it back out. You can click to donate button anywhere on my website to help, all donations are tax-deductible. Otherwise, I am donating my speaking, consulting, website builds, and marketing business to Team World Vision, Also, my family will be hosting raffles, selling TWV-inspired crafts and items for the fundraising goal.
