I am making a conscious effort to make something of each day; to feel like I have achieved something and have facilitated something positive for myself or another person that can be built upon the following day. These days are far to precious to let pass us by…

What do you need to do to ensure you are making something of your time, of your days? Perhaps a list of your top 3-5 focuses for the day will help you have structure…Maybe you need to remind yourself what is important to you and focus to do just one thing per day that will bring you closer to making it a reality. Here’s to making your dreams become a reality by making use of each day…starting with today!

I’d like to think over the course of 2 years frolicking around Latin America I would uncover some truths about myself. I began writing this list about a year ago and I’m quite sure there are a few more just waiting to come to light. Its critical to learn about the person you really are, what you need and want out of life, and how you choose to share yourself with others. It’s ok to have faults, they are part of what makes you YOU, but becoming aware of them allows you to become the BEST version of YOU!!! Here are a few of the things I’ve learned about myself on this journey so far:

 

I want more out of life than the norm. I will not settle for less, and I will strive daily to facilitate this.

I absolutely love making people happy!

I need space to be independent.

Yet, I genuinely enjoy sharing experiences with another person that I used to think were more special alone.

I love working with people and fixing others problems/issues.

I struggle to stay settled for long.

Even 15 min of training can make me feel better, energized and inspired to train more the next day.

People actually feed off of my energy, they absorb it, and they can feel when it is different.

There is a very fine line between ‘fun drunk’ and unnecessarily  intoxicated. No one needs to play close to that line. That ship has sailed…

I am in control of my body and how I fuel it.

I am allowed to have moments, days even, of letting my energy levels come down, to hibernate.

I love adventure, taking risks, and am comfortable with the unknown…maybe too comfortable now.

I realize that I begin more sentences with “I” than most people do, and am making a conscious decision to change this (How am I doing in this post

We are the only ones who build walls up around ourselves and only we can take them down.

I have a short temper at times, particularly with those I am very close with. I am focused on extending my patience to those I am close to.

I am finally ready for a real relationship, and I now know I have to be willing to compromise my plans, my life, for a life together. BUT…

Thanks to Carrie Bradshaw: “I’m looking for love. Real love. Ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can’t-live-without-each-other love.” And I don’t plan on settling for anything less!

I am quite unaccepting of others who have an extremely narrow perspective. I must learn to understand that they just view the world differently…just one of life’s challenges.

I love speaking in a second language and NEED to make a consistent effort to do so more often.

Sometimes, though I hate to admit it, my choices do not always align with my values. It is the time to make a conscious effort to align them equally.

I am driven by challenge.

I am passionate. Passionate in my relationships, in my work and in the things I love.

I am far more sensitive than I ever realized.

I’ve learned and come to accept that crying doesn’t mean I am weak, it means I am human and I am capable of expressing emotion.

I NEED to find what I can be really passionate about right now!

I have learned to be more patient, and have also come to realize that I can be impatient with complete incompetence and laziness.

When I want something, I can and will do whatever it takes to make it happen.

I am a firm believer and have been continually reminded that EVERYTHING happens for a reason. Even if we are unable to find the reason at the time, our universe is aligning itself perfectly and our future will be the result.

I know that what I want is out there just waiting for me to stumble upon it, then work for it, and make it happen. I will find it, soon. (In fact, maybe I have already…)

A glimpse from Guatemala…

As I slowly settle back into ‘life at home’ attempting to re-establish a schedule and sense of “normalcy,” I am becoming strangely aware of just how these travels have changed me on a deep and very real level. I can’t say that I am finding this transition particularly easy, but thankfully I have some amazing people in my life that are helping me to make it as smooth as possible. My beautiful friend Alicia Graver and her new husband Eric will be heading over to the UK to commence their honeymoon, so I thought I would share this helpful piece with some top tips on exploring the South of England and taking advantage of the start of a beautiful summer season! Enjoy!

At times Southern England seems as if it is awash with areas of outstanding natural beauty, Grade 1 listed buildings and countless ancient monuments – so much so that it becomes very easy to be blasé about this part of the UK. So we have identified a few of the ‘Must Hit’ destinations for you…

Winchester Cathedral

This wonderful place of worship has had a song written about it and even has a medieval replica Round Table hanging on its wall. For a while the city of Winchester was even the capital city of England; nowadays it is very popular with those who just want to take a rest from everyday life and want to explore this part of Hampshire. Anyone who uses Winchester as a base for their cheap city breaks will be able to explore the South Downs National Park and visit some of the charming villages and surrounding the towns. Beaulieu Motor Museum is also close by. Winchester College was founded in 1382 and is still home to some of the brightest young brains in the country.

The High Weald – Kent

I’m biased about this part of the South, I come from Kent though I’ve never worked out whether I’m a Kentish woman or a woman of Kent – it all depends on which side of the Medway I was born. One of the most picturesque trips that will really open up this land of woods, oast houses, orchards and ancient farmlands is to take a tour of The High Weald. You’ll be able to drop in on the wonderful gardens at Sissinghurst, wander about Tunbridge Wells, though I don’t recommend the waters as I have never found them particularly thirst quenching or health giving.

Brighton

Formerly known as Brighthelmstone, the seaside town of Brighton became hugely popular in the late 18^th century following the patronage of the flamboyant Prince Regent. The town is still famous for its extraordinary Pavilion, it has to be seen to be believed and Brighton has increasingly gained an international reputation for its vibrant LGBT community as well as the many arts festivals that take place in the town.

Bath

The city of Bath with its mellow sandstone buildings, majestic Regency architecture and its iconic Roman baths is on the itinerary of most travellers who visit the South West. Jane Austen lived here for a while, but it wasn’t the happiest period of her life. The town is easy to navigate and the surrounding hilly countryside should be explored. Stonehenge is nearby as is Glastonbury. As well as being famous for its festival if you visit Glastonbury at other times of the year you’ll be able to learn more about the local legends as the spiritual associations of this charming town.

Epping Forest

Just to the north of London lies the magnificent Epping Forest. For many years the forest was home to highwaymen and other people on the run from the long arm of the law. Today this 12-mile stretch of ancient woodland is more famous for being a site of special scientific interest and is the perfect venue for a picnic or just a wonderful ramble.

Perhaps my greatest fear coming back home to Australia was missing “the unknown;” the feeling of not knowing what  I would be doing the next day, who I may have a chance encounter with, or what country I might be in the following week for that matter. It was a sense of freedom, excitement and spontaneity that I had never embraced in quite this way. Apparently other people are more than keen to know EXACTLY what I will be doing now and it seems the most daunting question I have had to face!

So What’s Next…

Well, I will let you in on some of my plans in more detail over the next week or so, but for now, you can rest assured that I am happily back in Melbourne, meeting up with long lost friends, focusing on my health and fitness AND…

I have been a bit quiet here on the blog because I have been cramming in loads of Guatemalan amazingness as my Latin American journey winds down. Not to worry, I have been racking up plenty of stories and photos to share and will have PLENTY of time on my hands very soon!

When I came across this beautiful definition of a word very close to my heart, I couldn’t help but share it with you all…

Perhaps it is because my trip is coming to an end, an entirely new chapter of my life is about to begin, or simply spending sunrise and a few blissful hours in the spiritual Mayan ruins of Tikal…but I have an overwhelming urge to honour you and the beautiful people I have met along this journey that have made it what it is. I never thought I would be a ‘cruise kind of gal’ until Mum convinced me to join them back in 2009 from Florida to the Caribbean on Oasis of the Seas!  Quite a change of pace from my current travelling but can’t say that I wouldn’t LOVE to do another one very soon!!! As a mix of excitement, fear, thrill and sadness wildly sweep over me right now, a swirl of epiphany’s, stress and smiles all at once… Even as I put my fingers to the key board, my heart drops slightly into my belly simultaneously a thrilling wave of anticipation…

I HAVE HAD ‘THE FEELING; you know the one deep in your belly that tells you its the right time to make a change….

Well, its been damn near 2 year in South and Central America, travelling, working, learning, loving, exploring, laughing, growing, caring, dancing, trying, adventuring, opening up, and generally getting my Spanish on!

It’s time…

Please make no mistake, this is NOT a Farewell to South/Central America, it is just a little ‘Hasta Luego mi amor,‘ (see you soon my love!)  It is a BRILLIANT opportunity for me to reunite with my beautiful family and friends first in Florida where one of my longest standing besties (the lovely Alicia Graver) will walk down the aisle and into the arms of the one she loves forever (giving all of us girls the chance for a LONG overdue reunion!!!) Michelle, Kristina, Kristi, Alicia…I CANNOT WAIT!

After what I can only imagine to be a whirlwind of a week in Florida, I will sweep myself away to the magical place I still call home, for yet another amazing celebration of love when the stunning Miss Number 5 struts her way down to tie the knot with the man of her dreams! Chanel, Libby, Ana, Jose, Alice, Andy, Tahnee (Jilly, get your bum back soon) I am overwhelmed with excitement to see you all! (And all my new Aussie friends I have met along the way!)

With no flights booked as of yet, this leaves me about a month of travel left with the intention of getting as much out of Nicaragua and Guatemala as possible as these are the two biggies I have been dreaming of for so long. As far as the rest, the what nexts’, the new life path etc…well, I wont waste a minute of these last days worrying, stressing, nor planning. Instead, I am surrendering to the experience completely….

THANK YOU for making this an exciting announcement and CELEBRATING in this with me. Also, please be patient as I use this last month to the fullest to create the memories for content to last until the next adventure begins! Turkey has been on the TOP of my Journey List for sometime now and the funny thing is, I know VERY little about it!! I am just super intrigued! So my friends over at Beat the Brochure sent me their top tips so I can start getting an idea and I HAD to share with you! (PS I am hoping to make it to Turkey in 2014!)

Turkey is a vast country and has an eclectic mix of Middle Eastern, Aegean, Balkan and trans-Caucasian characteristics. The stand out thing about Turkey is the hospitality of its people. Their reputation for friendliness is well deserved and you’re likely to get a warm “Merhaba” (hello) from the locals during your stay. The country is also famed for its vibrant culture, rich food and extensive, fascinating history.

What can I do in Turkey?

It isn’t possible to see and experience everything Turkey has to offer in one trip, but here are just a few things where to go and do. If you want a thrill, why not paraglide over the Dead Sea? If taking to the air is how you get your kicks then book a hot air balloon ride in Cappadoccia. Like to get your face wet? Scuba dive in Antalya or white water raft in the River Coruh. For those of you that prefer to keep your feet on dry land, hiking up Mount Ararat is just the ticket. You can also play golf, ski, explore caves, enjoy the National Parks and so much more during your time in Turkey.

What should I definitely see during my stay?

• Museum of Anatolian Civilisations, Ankara – view a fine collection of Stone Age to around 700BC artefacts at this must see museum in the capital city.

• Roman Theatre, Aspendos – the best way to appreciate the largest and best preserved theatre is the summer opera and ballet festival.

• Ancient Ephesus – the ruins of this major Aegean city is linked to the history of early Christianity.

• Kapali Carsi, Istanbul – touristy but compelling! Grab a bargain in the world’s largest covered bazaar.

• Pamukkale Thermal Pools – take a healing dip in these gorgeous thermal pools. They are said to cure asthma and rheumatism, as well as eye and skin complaints.
