Pellets of Fire

2011-02-02T12:37:00.001-08:00

Seriously, how much fun could a person have throwing this out to melt the ice? I can imagine the scene from Nemo when he is to swim through the bubbles. The voice of the blowfish yelling “Pellets of Fire”.

A Trip to Holland

I had a friend forward this to me. Good perspective on how things go in our lives sometimes.

A Trip to Holland

By Emily Perl Kingsley

I am often asked to describe the experience of raising a child with a disability -- to try to help people who have not shared that unique experience to understand it, to imagine how it would feel. It's like this...

When you're going to have a baby, it's like planning a fabulous vacation trip to Italy. You buy a bunch of guide books and make your wonderful plans... the Coliseum, the Sistine Chapel, Gondolas. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting. After several months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives.

You pack your bags and off you go. Several hours later, the plane lands. The stewardess comes in and says, "Welcome to Holland!" "Holland?" you say. "What do you mean, Holland? I signed up for Italy. I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I've dreamed of going to Italy." But there's been a change in the flight plan. They've landed in Holland and there you must stay. The important thing is that they haven't taken you to a horrible, disgusting, filthy place full of pestilence, famine, and disease. It's just a different place.

So, you must go out and buy new guidebooks. And you must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would never have met. It's just a different place. It's slower paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been there for a while and you catch your breath, you look around. You begin to notice that Holland has windmills. Holland has tulips. And Holland even has Rembrandts. But everyone you know is busy coming and going from Italy, and they're all bragging about what a wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life you will say, " Yes, that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I had planned."

And the pain of that experience will never, ever, ever, go away. The loss of that dream is a very significant loss. But if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things about Holland.

Washington D.C.

2010-05-28T12:23:00.000-07:00

It is an awesome experience to see things from the past that has made this country a great place to live. The heartache, pain and passion the people went through and had to make this the place that people want to live is not appreciated enough by us.

I toured the White House, National Archives, Capitol Building, National Museum of Natural History, American Museum, Vietnam Memorial, WWII Memorial, Korean Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, FDR Memorial, Ford's Theatre, Air & Space Museum, Arlington National Cemetery, Holocaust Memorial Museum, Iwo Jima Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Kennedy Center, Mount Vernon. Saw the Washington Monument.

It was a rough four days but we got it done and I am very glad to have been able to see it all. I am glad to be home with Jason and the girls. Got home at 2:00 am this morning but got woke up at 7:00 am by Rebekah wanting her gifts from D.C. so I can barely keep my eyes open. lol

Absence

2010-05-23T12:32:00.000-07:00

Heading out way before the sun comes up in the morning for Washington, D.C. Leaving Jason with the girls for four days! Thanks to Mom for watching the girls during the day too. I am lucky to have the support system I have. It is going to be a fun and tiring four days but well worth it to see the nation's capitol. We have a reservation to see the White House too. I am looking forward to getting more flower seeds to plant when I get back. I love watching seeds grow into flowers. I'm not taking a laptop but if there ends up being a computer in the hotel, I will try to blog some about the trip. I'm sure I will be home sick by Tuesday but will be enjoying myself at the same time. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, right?

Pinecone Research is growing!

I have been with this company for a long time now. I do around 2 surveys a month. They pay $3 per survey to you through Paypal. I personally use the money to buy coupons from companies up in the Northeast where coupons are worth more than here. I highly recommend signing up with them. Well worth it. I have even tried new products through them.

Kitchen addition

2010-05-19T09:54:00.001-07:00

My kitchen addition is in the works. We are getting a cabinet with a rolling drawer for the trash, book shelves for my cookbooks and a bar-heighth eating area. I am very excited. They are going to put the laminate on the bar. We are going to go find a pretty “barley twist” leg to have on the end. Rebekah has already picked out her eating spot. Probably won’t be done before I leave for Washington, D.C. but hopefully they will be real close to getting it done by the time I get back. We are getting hardwood floors done too. This all just completes the kitchen out. It always seemed like half a kitchen. Something was missing. I’ll have to post pictures when it is done.

Nite Nite

2010-05-12T11:42:00.001-07:00

Soon after bathtime last night, I tell Katie let’s go read a book and go to sleep. She breaks out the book Secret Seahorse. I do love that book. It is a fun one. Anyhoo, we get done reading and I begin to make goofy faces at her and making her giggle. I say ok, time to go to sleep. She proceeds to say, “Let’s just talk.” Four year old, wants to just talk. What?!?! So…she won, we talked and tickled then crashed. A time to remember.

Awe...Family.

Craftsman 4 drawer tool chest for $50.00 at sears.com

2010-05-10T07:08:00.001-07:00

This tool chest seems like a good deal if you have small, lightweight tools. The reviews talk like heavy stuff isn’t good for it. More for a “lightweight” handman. That would be me. lol Check it out here.

Is it possible?

2010-05-06T14:15:00.001-07:00

Do I have a child who might possibly want to play t-ball??? My heart went pitter patter.

Perfunctory

2010-05-06T13:58:00.001-07:00

Heard a word recently I have never heard. Perfunctory.

per-func-to-ry

1. Done routinely and with little interest or care.
2. Acting with indifference; showing little interest or care

I kinda like this word. So many ways it could be used. I find it pretty funny actually.

To get away

2010-04-27T16:00:00.000-07:00

Sometimes it is nice to get away from the normal day to day of work, home, work, home. Then again, it is nice to have work, home, work, home. :-) I miss my sweetie and my girls. I need hugs and kisses and to be tackled in the living room. At least it won't be long til I'm back home from this conference. The food is good and I am looking forward to the seafood tonight. I heart seafood. It is funny how different people are at conferences. I am one who rarely says much. I learn from others and figure there isn't much for me to share with them. Susan on the other hand, who I am here with, is that person who people say "You've hit your question limit!" but if it wasn't for her, people like me wouldn't get much out of the meetings. It takes all kinds.

I need tackled.....and a Chisholm Corner big pop!
