Janesville Presents brought the Lois Lowry tale Anastasia Krupnik to JPAC today. Hundreds of elementary school kids packed the auditorium for two shows today. The traveling educational theater company ArtsPower performed the show. Here are a couple of photos (click on the photos for larger views):

Back by popular demand, Janesville Presents brings Robin Spielberg, one of America’s favorite pianists, for a return appearance at the Janesville Performing Arts Center on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 7:30 p.m.

"From the moment she walks on stage, until the last note gently caresses the room, Spielberg casts a spell on her audience that is palpable, visceral, and spiritual. Ms. Spielberg’s gifts have won her a place among the nation’s most respected contemporary pianists, as well as a slot on Steinway’s Artist Roster. Her fourteen recordings include five albums of original piano solos (Heal of the Hand, Songs of the Spirit, Dreaming of Summer, Memories of Utopia, Spa Piano), two recordings of American standards and film songs (With a Song in My Heart, Unchained Melodies), original pieces for solo piano and piano/ensemble (In the Arms of the Wind) , Mother, a collaborative CD containing instrumentals, sung ballads and songs celebrating mother and motherhood, four recordings for holiday (Spirit of the Holidays, In the Heart of Winter, American Chanukah, The Christmas Collection), and a recording of lullabies (Beautiful Dreamer). A new recording is in the works for late 2007.

Hailed as "the most expressive pianist of our time", Robin Spielberg is a brilliant pianist/composer and recording artist. Her piano performance is compelling and heartfelt, and her theatrical storytelling style and humor contribute to a memorable concert experience.

Robin is the Celebrity Spokesperson for the American Music Therapy Association. Educational workshops and community outreach programs are available on the topic of music & healing. Master classes for students of music on the topic of performance are available as well on both the high school and university level.

Her playMountain Music debut, Dreaming of Summer, earned a “Finalist Award” from New Age Voice Magazine in June 2001 in the ‘Best Acoustic Instrumental’ category and was released later in the year in Thailand, China, Hong-Kong, Korea and Malaysia, with one of the tracks also gaining popularity with audiences from its use as a soundtrack in the Korean award-winning television drama Winter Love Song.

Beloit Janesville Symphony plays Barber of Seville Saturday night, March 17

The Earth portion of the symphony's four element series features Rossini's Barber of Seville this Saturday evening. Dr. Robert Tomaro will also be conducting pieces by Hovhannes and Yount.

If you haven't seen the symphony lately, check them out if you can. In the few months that I've been in Janesville they have been one of my favorite attractions at JPAC.

A Thousand Cranes at JPAC, Thursday and Friday, March 15 and 16

Spotlight on Kids presents A Thousand Cranes directed by Maria Hornby this Thursday and Friday evenings at 7pm. (Click on the poster for a larger image).

A Thousand Cranes is based on the true story of Sadako Sasaki, a victim of the Hiroshima bombing who was told she had leukemia. Sadako attempted to fold a thousand origami cranes while in the hospital so that she may be granted one wish, according to Japanese legend.

Tickets for the shows are $6 for adults, $4 for kids.

This is the beginning of Friday night's concert, unfortunately after the opening song (I'm never fast enough with the camera). The first half is the witty introduction of the group, and the second half is a piece I believe is called "Hark, all ye lovely Saints above," but I may totally be wrong about that. I can't make it tomorrow night. Family is going to be in Chicago, so that's where I'll be. But if you can make it, it should be well worth the price of admission to see our local celebrities cutting some rug.
