HAPPY CREEPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

Today is Valentine's Day and for you men out there that means empty wallet day. Well as those with date's drink, eat, and dance the night away. There are some of us out there that well, need to settle for a Heart Shaped Pizza, beer, and a sappy movie - black and white is what I prefer.

However, in the spirit of those without dates and with, I give you some creepy Valentine's Day Cards. Most are from the past.

Shirley Temple Black, America's Dimpled-faced Darling, who sang and tap-danced her way into our hearts during the great depression, has passed away this morning at the age of 85. She had reached Stardom and world-wide fame at a young age that no other child actor has done. With her golden locks of hair she dazzled us and made America forget, if only for a moment, the harsh depression. During that time she had been photographed more than FDR.

Adolphe Menjou, her co-star in her first big hit, “Little Miss Marker,” described her as “an Ethel Barrymore at 6” and said she was “making a stooge out of me.” The 23 motion pictures her sparkling personality, golden ringlets, and sunny optimism lifted spirits and made her famous.

Many Temple-inspired products were manufactured and released during the 1930s. Ideal Toy and Novelty Company in New York City negotiated a license for dolls with the company's first doll wearing the polka-dot dress from Stand Up and Cheer!. Shirley Temple dolls realized $45 million in sales before 1941. A mug, a pitcher, and a cereal bowl in cobalt blue with a decal of Temple were given away as a premium with Wheaties.

Successfully-selling Temple items included a line of girls' dresses and accessories, soap, dishes, cutout books, sheet music, mirrors, paper tablets, and numerous other items. Before 1935 ended, Temple's income from licensed merchandise royalties would exceed $100,000, doubling her income from her movies. In 1936, her income would top $200,000 from royalties. She endorsed Postal Telegraph, Sperry Drifted Snow Flour, the Grunow Teledial radio, Quaker Puffed Wheat, General Electric, and Packard automobiles

As she made the transition from child actor to adult actor the audience and her popularity slacked and she retired from the silver screen at 22.

Temple became active in the Republican Party in California. In 1967, she ran unsuccessfully in a special election in California's 11th congressional district to fill the seat left vacant by the death of eight-term Republican J. Arthur Younger from leukemia. She ran as a conservative and lost to law school professor Pete McCloskey, a liberal Republican who was a staunch opponent of the Vietnam War.

She was appointed Representative to the 24th United Nations General Assembly by President Richard M. Nixon (September – December 1969), and was appointed United States Ambassador to Ghana (December 6, 1974 – July 13, 1976) by President Gerald R. Ford. She was appointed first female Chief of Protocol of the United States (July 1, 1976 – January 21, 1977), and was in charge of arrangements for President Jimmy Carter's inauguration and inaugural ball. She served as the United States Ambassador to Czechoslovakia (August 23, 1989 – July 12, 1992), having been appointed by President George H. W. Bush.

She was on the TV almost every Sunday while I was growing up. I grew up on her movies and shorts. She definitely had sang and tap-danced her way into my heart. I always and still enjoy watching her. Her smile is infectious and she always makes me smile. I have my kids exposed to her so that another generation will be touched by her smile. And appreciate her movies and her carefree attitude. One of my favorites is "Bright Eyes" where she sings 'Good Ship Lollipop'. I think one of her earliest shorts was 'War Babies' it is actually still funny to watch even if it is black and white and lo-def. I encourage you all to watch some of her movies, I prefer black and white but that is becoming harder to find. The colorized versions are good too. I hope that TMC or AMC will have a Shirley Temple Marathon.

Shirley Temple died of natural causes on February 10, 2014, at the age of 85. She was at her home in Woodside, California, surrounded by family and caregivers

She is now singing and dancing while sailing on the 'Good Ship Lollipop' over the Rainbow.

She will be missed by many. Heaven now has a new dimple faced darling angel.

GHOST SHIP with Cannibal Rats!

GHOST SHIP with CANNIBAL RATS!

I am not sure if you have heard but yes, a ghost ship with Cannibal Rats aboard is sailing towards Great Britain. If you do not know don't worry baby birds, I will feed you. The Lyubov Orlova is abandoned, no humans aboard, adrift in the Atlantic. Aimlessly this ship is propelled by the currents. The Lyubov Orlova was built for the Far East Shipping Company back in 1976 as a 4,200 ton cruise ship. It was made in Yugoslavia, it purpose, to cruise the cold regions of the world. She normally sailed the Artic and Antartic. In Sept. 2010, she was seized by Canadian authorities at St John's Newfoundland due to debts totaling $251,000 US. So there she sat.

Now you CAN blame Canada.

In 2012, she was sold for scraps. Initial destination, the Dominican Republic. After one day of being towed from the dock, the tow line snapped. And she began her first unguided float. The Tug boat unsuccessfully tried to reattach the line. Waves and storm conditions forced them to abandon their attempt.

At this time the Lyubov Orlova was slowly drifting eastward off the southeastern end of the Avalon Peninsula in Canada. An offshore supply vessel named the Atlantic Hawk was task to regain control of the drifting ship. The Atlantic Hawk gained control of the ship and pulled her out to international waters to avoid being a risk to the oil and gas operations in the region. Once in international waters the Transport Dept. of Canada decided to cut her loose. They claimed safety reasons why they cut the ship loose.

Referring to the Rats, Canada's National Post explained that the vessel pretty much sat on it's fat metal butt in the dock for over two years. This "virtually guaranteeing" that the ship is infested with hundreds these little bastards. And since there's no food aboard, the rats likely turned on each other.

Transport Canada stated that the owner of the vessel is in charge of her movements. And that they should also take responsibility for tracking of the ship.

Now this diseased cannibal rat-infested cruise liner is heading straight for Great Britain. The Prime Minister of Great Britain is not too worried. When asked if he was going to dispatch the Royal Navy to intercept the "ghost ship" he replied, "It sounds like we have a start of a B-rated movie script!"

Canada's Prime Minister stated to Great Britain and the world, "Soory 'boot that, eh hosiers".

The 49ers Sad Loss to the Seahawks.

Ok, now that the dust has settled on last nights Niners loss to Seattle. And that the realization has set in that my 49ers are not going to the Superbowl, I can now put a more calm perspective on the game.

Before we go into the full dynamics mistakes and others let us first examine the quarterbacks.

These two are fairly evenly matched on the air game with yardage and completions. Except Wilson does have the more yardage on passes that counted and of course no picks. As far as yards on the ground, Kaepernick actually has more yards on the ground at 130 yards rushing than Seattle had overall at 115 yards. I would have to rate Kaepernick as the better of the two QBs. He had better pocket presence, better composure while under pressure and shown more athleticism than Wilson. The rushing of Kaepernick vs the team Seattle (not a single player) was greater.

As you can see it was a very, very close game indeed. Although, Seattle claims the 12th man to be the crowd noise, it did not seem to affect the offensive line. Only one false start on SF.

Nonetheless, Seattle may have won the game, but it was their ability to capitalize on SF's errors. And it was a good knock-down drag out fight til the end. Not one sided in the least bit. Also, SF had 3 turnovers whereas Seattle only had 1.

Then it was the very last throw to Crabtree in the corner and tipped by Sherman which allowed an interception to occur that sealed the Niner's fate. In my opinion, there were a few Bullshit penalty calls but it was a good game.

Kaepernick being as athletic as he was and in my words played a hell of a game. He still took the loss personally and blamed only him. He felt that he didn't play hard enough to win. In my book this makes him a true leader and a class act. In addition, Patrick Willis said, "We win as a team and we loose as a team" again showing the true grit of the SF 49ers.

Now it will be Seattle vs Denver in Superbowl XLVIII.

So my pick come Superbowl Sunday will be Denver. I feel that Payton "Omaha" Manning will be able to stomp a hove into the face of the Seahawks.

Hey Party People,

Sorry it has been awhile since my last blog.

The holiday season had me running crazy. I just want to wish Happy Hanuka to my Jewish friends, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

As 2013 came to an end, I had several craziness happen. Especially in the winter. My Halloween decorations has always been a major hit in my neighborhood.

But the sad part was because of an Ice Storm, I was not able to get my Christmas Decorations up in time for our HOA judging. So, I lost the Christmas decoration contest for the first time in THREE years. Held the title of Best Kids Theme since the contest began. Oh well, there is next year. And sadly, I have already started planning for it.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The Colorado healthcare exchange has processed applications for thousands of people … and one dog.

Shane Smith, of Fort Collins, says his dog Baxter received a letter informing him that a health insurance account had been opened in his name through Connect for Health Colorado.

“I thought, ‘Wow, this is so awesome,’” Smith said with a laugh. “They have gone out of their way to insure my 14-year-old Yorkie.”

Smith had called Connect for Health Colorado to sign himself up for insurance because his old plan was cancelled due to Obamacare.

He’s not sure exactly how the confirmation letter went to his dog, but he says he thinks it’s because of a series of security questions a representative asked him over the phone.

“There was some kind of code or something, so I gave them my dog’s name,” Smith said. “They must have just put it in the wrong slot or something.”

After hearing about all the headaches with Obamacare nationally, Shane says this mistake doesn’t seem so bad.

“It was pretty funny. Typical Obamacare, that they would insure your dog by mistake,” Smith said.

Another Friday the 13th

Yes, I think everyone or at least almost everyone LOVES Friday the 13th. I also believe everybody out there has a fear, nervousness, or is a bit leery of Friday the 13th. And of course the superstitions around that day.

I also love the movie franchise that Jason can never die.

Here is a little history/trivia or more like folklore about this day.

The earliest related lore I could find to Friday the 13th is the many executions of the Knights Templar's.

At dawn on Friday, October 13, 1307, scores of French Templar's were simultaneously arrested by agents of King Philip, later to be tortured in locations such as the tower at Chinon, into admitting heresy and other sacrilegious offenses in the Order. Then they were put to death.

Rossini was surrounded to the last by admiring friends; and if it be true that, like so many Italians, he regarded Fridays as an unlucky day and thirteen as an unlucky number, it is remarkable that one Friday 13th of November he died

Remembering September 11th

The day September 11th, 2001 will forever live in the hearts and minds of all Americans. And this also can be said for the nations around the world. Marking this day a dark tragic day for America. You may be hard pressed to find a country anywhere in the world that does not know the tragedies that happened on American soil.

If you ask most American's, they can recall the events of that morning regardless of how trite. For my morning started out as any other morning by waking up and heading to work. I usually started work around 7 am so that I could beat California traffic in both directions. I lived in Castro Valley and had to commute to Sunnyvale. The day prior, I received my eBay item that I bid on and won. The item I had won was a US military Vietnam War era flak vest. I placed it in my truck and headed off to work. I planned to show my co-workers the vest. When I left for work it was still dark outside. I drove to my favorite coffee shop, which was a mere shack drive-up type. I bought my coffee and drove off. I normally listen to talk radio or news in the morning.

The news broke that a plane had hit the Twin Towers building. My first thought was what a stupid pilot. How can you not see these two towers. I then thought it was probably a single engine Cessna or some other small type of plane. The news provided no more information that a plane hit the building. Driving further along the news broke once again. A second plane hit the Twin Towers. Now, I blurted out, "What the FUCK!" My first thought went to a malfunctioning Airport Tower equipment feeding incorrect information to the airplanes in the area. And I also thought that it might be a very stupid air traffic controller.

But after that second aircraft strike, the events unfolded quickly. The news of this event was on all stations, music or not. And I was still commuting to work. The typical stop and go traffic down 880. More news bombarding the radio with the horrors happening across the country in New York. Then the order to halt all flights within the US. I turned onto 84 to cross the Dumbarton Bridge. As I crested the bridge, the reality and the gravity of what was happening hit me hard. The sky was empty, it was very still, quiet, solemn, and tranquil. It was also very eery. I could look to the south and usually see air traffic around San Jose Airport and sometimes some out of Moffit Naval Air Station. I could look Northwest and spot air traffic out of SFO and their normal flight pattern is over the bay. And look Northeast and see Oakland airport. This day nothing.

I finally made it to work. I forgot about the flak vest in my truck. I went into work and the last thing on everybody's mind was work. At lunch time it was my turn to drive; when my co-workers jumped in one stated, "Do you know something we don't Porter?" I look towards him confusingly and then spotted the vest. "Ah, no this was coincidence that my eBay purchased showed up yesterday" I replied.

Shortly thereafter, I was federalized and started missions for the Global War on Terrorism. When you are National Guard and Reserves you get federalized for missions.

Today at UTA (University of Texas, Arlington), it was reported that a female student was sexually assaulted at the SigEp Fraternity house. This happened during a party. Since the reporting is new, I have no other information regarding the actual assault. But nonetheless, the frat house is now suspended and undergoing an investigation into the assault and unauthorized parties.

I only write this because I am a SigEp alumni. I crossed over traditionally in the 90's; however, I am not sure if the chapter at UTA is a Balanced Man or traditional. I hope that the brothers at UTA can learn from their mistakes.

Robocop & Detroit - Fiction meets Reality

Did the 1987 movie predict the future of Detroit?

I have been following the problems in Detroit. It is a fact that they are filing for bankruptcy and the fact that the city is broke! Detroit used to be the highest median household incomes and now ranks 66th out of 68. There used to be over 2 million people living in Detroit at the height of the cities population; now, the population has declined severely and is around 700,000. There are abandoned neighborhoods, houses in shambles, and abandoned skyscrapers. I have included several videos to show the truth and the comparison to the movie. It is sad times in Detroit Motor City!

Police ignore calls to the abandoned neighborhoods. The abandoned neighborhoods have lost several homes and fields replaced the once home and property. This is just one example, there are many more.

Detroit is a city that is dying on the vine. Home prices less that $500 is common place. One home is only $50. The lowest price a home sold was for $1. Yes, $1 dollar. The abandoned skyscrapers that once had bustling businesses.

Detroit had 5000 Police officers and now have less than 2800. They are stretched to the limits of breaking. There are promises of a "Pot of money", but no one can find it.

Detroit also has the most crime and highest murder rate in the nation. It is as if Detroit has become a third-world city in the heart of America.

Plot:
In the near future (freaky 1987 to 2013 = a mere 26 years), Detroit, Michigan is on the verge of collapse due to financial ruin and unchecked crime (both of which are happening today!). The mega-corporation Omni Consumer Products (OCP) enters into a contract with the city to run the police force. OCP plans to demolish "Old Detroit" and redevelop it as a high-end utopia called "Delta City." To address the city's crime, OCP tests several projects to engineer robotic law enforcement. During a presentation of a project spearheaded by the senior president, Dick Jones (Ronny Cox), the ED-209 enforcement droid malfunctions and kills a junior executive. With Delta City's construction scheduled to begin within months, the OCP Chairman (Dan O'Herlihy) immediately advances an alternative put forth by an ambitious, middle-ranking executive named Bob Morton (Miguel Ferrer). Morton calls his cyborg project "RoboCop."

Philosophical Zombie

I have always been fascinated with philosophical arguments and I found the Zombie one of the most interesting, actually I love it!

A philosophical zombie or p-zombie in the philosophy of mind and perception is a hypothetical being that is indistinguishable from a normal human being except in that it lacks concious experience, qualia, or sentience. When a zombie is poked with a sharp object, for example, it does not feel any pain though it behaves exactly as if it does feel pain (it may say "ouch" and recoil from the stimulus, or tell us that it is in intense pain).
The notion of a philosophical zombie is used mainly in intended to support arguments (often called "zombie arguments") against forms of physicalism such as materialism, behaviorism, and funtionalism.

So, since a zombie is defined as physiologically indistinguishable from human beings, even logically, do they really feel pain?
Or does the zombie mimic the pain that it once knew when human? Almost like a motor response without actual pain.
We all know they hunger for brains and if they have no logic, then how do they know they want to consume brains? Also they are known to eat raw flesh.
"Braaaaiiins...braaaaiiiins...braaaaaiiiins..." they chant as they slowly approach the “normies” or better known as us humans. But how do they know this if they have no thoughts?
In some cultures such as Hati and West Africa, in the religion of Vodou Zombies are normal. They know that they can raise such creatures.

Some zombie conspiracies I have heard:
The Chinese Cover-up: So far the Chinese have been able to cover up their Zombie outbreak but there have been leaks getting to the news media, and as fast as it gets out the government cuts the lines of communications. My sources close to our government have told me that the Chinese Government has been working for some time on re-animating humans in hopes of making a super soldier. And it’s not just China. Many countries are doing the same thing. The USA, our own government might be doing the same? You decide?
There is a thought that the CDC is working on a drug to create zombies then decrease our population. It is called the, “Zombie Virus.”

Knowing your zombies:
Slow zombies are described in detail by Max Brooks in The Zombie Survival Guide. In a basic sense, slow zombies are technically dead predators who are totally independent from a physiological need of any kind. They feel no pain, need nothing to fuel their bodies, and require only their intact brain to exist. While they do eat their prey, they do not need to, as their digestive system is completely inoperative and the flesh simply is forced out through the rectum as later "meals" push it out of the body, or the flesh stagnates and rots inside the Zombie. They are almost totally without intellect or reasoning skills (according to the Zombie Survival Guide, only a quarter of them can figure out how to use a ladder). And as named, their top speed is slower than a normal human's calm stride. As mentioned earlier, they are extremely durable, being able to survive and hunt for years if not killed by brain destruction. The Solanum Virus which kills a person, and infests an reanimates the corpse, takes between 12-48 hours, depending on how quickly the virus reaches the brain (it's been proven that a small bite which reaches no major blood vessels takes longer than the traditional model to produce a zombie).
Slow Zombies normally do not climb and a chain-linked fence seems to be their kryptonite.

Fast zombies are usually (but not always) humans still technically alive, but radically transformed mentally and physically by a mysterious viral infection. While they also feel no pain, without the concern for food or water (they do not need sleep), they inevitably die to thirst or hunger. While they are more durable than an ordinary human, this is because of constant adrenaline production, and deactivation of pain receptors, so injury and fatigue also do not concern them. They ultimate depend on all of their organ systems, and can be killed through blood loss, asphyxiation, or poisoning. Typically, the fast zombie transformation period is very fast - in 28 Days Later, it can be mere seconds. Fast Zombies can be excellent climbers (see Valve Zombies).

Are You Scared of Friday the 13th?

TGIF - Thank Goodness its Friday so here is a Happy Friday to you! Or Aloha Friday, That is, unless you suffer from friggatriskaidekaphobia. That's a big way of saying you are afraid of Friday the 13th, which is today.

The Skeptic's Dictionary defines friggatriskaidekaphobia as "a morbid, irrational fear of Friday the 13th," and explains it this way:
"Friday is Frigga's Day. Frigga (Frigg) was an ancient Scandinavian fertility and love goddess, equivalent to the Roman Venus who had been worshiped on the sixth day of the week. When Norse and Germanic tribes converted to Christianity, Frigga was banished in shame to a mountaintop and labeled a witch. It was believed that every Friday, the spiteful goddess convened a meeting with eleven other witches, plus the devil — a gathering of thirteen — and plotted ill turns of fate for the coming week. Christians called Frigga a witch and Friday the witches' Sabbath."

Why Friday? Explanations include that Friday was the day Jesus Christ was crucified. Also Friday as an unlucky day dates back to the 14th century and "The Canterbury Tales." As for 13, the ancient Egyptian belief that the 13th stage of life is death is one reason cited, according to MacMillan Dictionary.

Another theory about the origin of the superstition traces the event to the arrest of the legendary Knights Templar. The Knights Templar were a monastic military order founded in Jerusalem in the year 1118. Their original mission was to guide and protect Christian pilgrims along the path from Europe to Jerusalem during the Crusades. Through this mission, the Templars developed a banking system to protect the finances of the traveling pilgrims, then expanded this system throughout their holdings in Europe. Over time, France's Philip IV amassed a debt to the Knights Templar for years of service.

So King Philip on October 13, 1307 set out charges against the Templars were of the highest accusations of heresy.

And in pop-culture we cannot mention Friday the 13th without mentioning the franchise jauggernaught movies with the same name. Friday the 13th, an American horror franchise that comprises twelve slasher films, a television show, novels, comic books, and tie‑in merchandise. The franchise mainly focuses on the fictional character Jason Voorhees, who drowned as a boy at Camp Crystal Lake due to the negligence of the camp staff. Decades later, the lake is rumored to be "cursed" and is the setting for a series of mass murders. Jason is featured in all of the films, as either the killer or the motivation for the killings.

If you do suffer from this fear of Friday the 13th, then you are paraskevidekatriaphobic, according to MacMillan Dictionary. So how legitimate is the idea of bad luck on a Friday the 13th? Whether real or imagined, the day seems to bring some less-favorable results. I am sure the movies and folklore do not help in this matter. However, the Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute in Asheville, N.C., estimated that 17 to 21 million people in the United States are affected by a fear of Friday the 13th. Another related estimate from the center said businesses lose $800 million-$900 million on Friday the 13th because people will not fly or do business they would normally do.

People who consider themselves unlucky to begin with are more likely to believe in superstitions that are associated with bad luck.Their beliefs and behavior are likely to be part of a much bigger worldview," he said. "They will believe that luck is a magical force and that it can ruin their lives."

Smoke Bomb Shuts Down Hitler Birthday Party!

A party marking the birthday of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler in a town outside Chicago was brought to an abrupt end by a smoke bomb attack, The Chicago Tribune reported Monday.

At Saturday's bash in Lyons, Illinois, about 60 people gathered to celebrate the 122nd anniversary of the murderous German leader's birth -- flying swastika banners even organizing a cake decorated with the words, "Happy Birthday Adolf Hitler."

They also set out to celebrate the start of the American Civil War, according to party host Art Jones, of the America First Committee. A second cake marking the war's outbreak on April 12, 1861, had the logo: "The South Was Right. White Men Fight," Jones said.

But the early-evening party at P.J. Klem's Restaurant And Banquet Hall came to a swift end when a mystery man walked in, ordered a grilled cheese sandwich then set off a smoke bomb in a restroom, forcing an evacuation and the closure of the hall.

The man, who was carrying a backpack, was being sought by police -- but officers admitted the description of him was "very vague."

Nobody was injured and there was no serious damage to the restaurant. A spokesman for the premises said staff were unaware of the party's purpose when the booking was made -- although the group has rented the hall in previous years.

DART Light-Rail Trains.

St. Patrick's Day has come and gone. I do miss the beer, the corn-beef, and the fun associated with that holiday. Well, as for me, another work day at the grind. There was a foul smelling bum-like person on the DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) light-rail train today. I think he was on something or just crazy, because he was having a heated argument with himself. Nonetheless it was very interesting and funny to watch.

I do like riding the light-rail because it reminds of BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) back home in the SF Bay Area. There is only a few spots that the DART rail goes into a tube. Most of the tracks are either raised or street level.

In addition, I exit the train at the Union Station stop, just prior it curves around the infamous Book Repository from which Lee Harvey Oswald took his fatal shots. It then traverses around the grassy knoll and over the road way which John F. Kennedy was traveling in his open top limousine.

But I just wanted to share just another day on the DART.

Today is St. Patrick's day! So, Happy St. Patrick's day everyone. Drink the green beer. I am going to have one of my homemade Irish Stout's in celebration of a long Irish tradition. However, not to ruin your green beer, new plastic shamrock hat, or funky shamrock-esque glasses, but the real St. Patrick was not even Irish.

"The modern celebration of St. Patrick's Day really has almost nothing to do with the real man," said Philip Freeman, a classics professor at Luther College in Iowa.

So who was this character behind the March 17 holiday? Or was he a short Norwegian who was once mistaken for a Leprechaun? Or had he been a drunken Irishman's invisible drinking buddy?
Well, here are a few key facts about his life, according to National Geographic :

Though Patrick was born into an aristocratic Christian family that had slaves and a country villa, he professed no interest in Christianity as a young boy. Apostle of Ireland, born at Kilpatrick, near Dumbarton, in Scotland, in the year 387; died at Saul, Downpatrick, Ireland, 17 March, 461. His parents were Calpurnius and Conchessa, who were Romans living in Britian in charge of the colonies.

At 14, during a raiding party, Patrick was kidnapped. He was sent to Ireland where he tended sheep as a slave for seven years. And I am sure you want to know who would kidnap this kid? Well, Sea faring warriors believed to be the kinsmen of Niall, the most powerful ruler of his time.

That was a major turning point in his young life.

Ireland at this time was a land of Druids and pagans. He learned the language and practices of the people who held him.

During his captivity, he turned to God in prayer. He wrote, "The love of God and his fear grew in me more and more, as did the faith, and my soul was raised, so that, in a single day, I have said as many as a hundred prayers and in the night, nearly the same." "I prayed in the woods and on the mountain, even before dawn. I felt no hurt from the snow or ice or rain."

Patrick's captivity lasted until he was twenty, when he escaped after having a dream from God in which he was told to leave Ireland by going to the coast. There he found a pirate ship who took him back to Britain, where he reunited with his family.

He had another dream in which the people of Ireland were calling out to him "We beg you, holy youth, to come and walk among us once more." He began his studies for the priesthood. He was ordained by St. Germanus, the Bishop of Auxerre, whom he had studied under for years.

Later, Patrick was ordained a bishop, and was sent to take the Gospel to Ireland. He arrived in Ireland March 25, 433, at Slane. One legend purports that he met a chieftain of one of the tribes, who tried to kill Patrick. Patrick converted Dichu (the chieftain) after he was unable to move his arm until he became friendly to Patrick. He began preaching the Gospel throughout Ireland, converting many. He and his disciples preached and converted thousands and began building churches all over the country. Kings, their families, and entire kingdoms converted to Christianity when hearing Patrick's message. Patrick by now had many disciples, among them Beningnus, Auxilius, Iserninus, and Fiaac, (all later canonized as well).
Patrick preached and converted all of Ireland for 40 years. He worked many miracles and wrote of his love for God in Confessions. After years of living in poverty, traveling and enduring much suffering he died March 17, 461. He died at Saul, where he had built the first church.

Why a shamrock? Patrick used the shamrock to explain the Trinity, and has been associated with him and the Irish since that time.
It is a folk tale that Patrick drove the snakes off the “Emerald Isle.” The absence of snakes in Ireland is already mentioned in the third century by the Roman Solinius. Snakes being commonly associated with Satan, sin and evil since the Garden of Eden, this tale may have arisen as a metaphor of his single-handed effort to drive the idol-worshiping Druid cult out of Ireland.

In His Footsteps: Patrick was a humble, pious, gentle man, whose love and total devotion to and trust in God should be a shining example to each of us. He feared nothing, not even death, so complete was his trust in God, and of the importance of his mission.

There was no canonization process in place when Patrick died, that came about in the 12th century. He would have been declared a saint by popular acclamation and his sainthood approved by a local bishop soon after he died in 467. Today only the pope can declare a saint and only after a lengthy canonization process.

History.com reported that the Irish have observed March 17 as a religious holiday for more than 1,000 years. Since the holiday occurs during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon.

In America today, along with parades and green goodies of all kinds, other traditional meals include corned beef and cabbage Irish stew, soda bread, and other meals.

      Welcome back peeps, I am writing this time with another oddity of around the world. I have been off the grid for a short time. I found this little nugget of a story and thoought to share it with my readers.

Breast milk ice cream was back on the menu at a London parlor Wednesday after council officials confirmed it is safe for human consumption.

They stated "BACK" on the menu, I take it was once on the menu and then taken off for testing?

Ok... Onto the full story as I have collected from various sources. Enjoy the crazy read:

    The ice cream, dubbed Baby Gaga by maker Icecreamists, was confiscated by Westminster council and sent for laboratory tests after two members of the public complained that it could contain hepatitis viruses.

Richard Block, of Westminster council, told the London Evening Standard newspaper, "We have now received confirmation from the lab that the product did not contain any harmful bacteria or viruses. Our investigation into the safety of the product is now over."

However, Icecreamists founder Matt O'Connor, 44, said he was considering suing the council over the bad publicity the ban brought the product -- which is made from donated breast milk combined with vanilla pods and lemon zest.

"Breast milk is not dangerous and Westminster council confiscated our product in the full knowledge that we had done all the proper tests," he said."We are considering taking legal action because this has damaged our reputation." "They should have waited until they got the tests back before saying our product could have been a risk to the public," he added.

The ice cream has caused controversy on both sides of the Atlantic since its launch last month, with US pop star Lady Gaga last week beginning legal proceedings against the makers. The singer described the product as "nausea-inducing" and said it "intended to take advantage of [her] reputation and goodwill." Lady Gaga reportedly asked Icecreamists to change the flavour's name so it could not be linked to her image or name.

But the parlour's founder, Matt O'Connor was outraged at the suggestion he had "ridden on the coattails" of Lady Gaga.

"A global superstar has taken umbrage at what she describes as a 'nausea-inducing' product. This from a woman with a penchant for wearing rotting cows' flesh. At least our customers are still alive when they contribute to our 'art,'" Mr O'Connor said.

"How can she possibly claim ownership of the word 'gaga,' which since the dawn of time has been one of the first discernible phrases to come from a baby's mouth?"

But the US diva's condemnation of the product came after the local Westminster City Council had already confiscated Baby Gaga from the store's shelves over fears it could pose a health risk.

Mr O'Connor denied the ice-cream was dangerous and claimed he took "every possible precaution" when preparing it.

Chili Cook Off

Recently, at my work, we had a great Chili Cook-off. Co-workers brought in various styles of chili for the judges and the eater's (like me) to sample and enjoy at lunch time. After the 'official' judging was concluded we were allowed into the area to graze, er sample away. We each got a sample of every chili with a corresponding color cup. We placed our token in the colored cup at the main table for the one we enjoyed the most. Some cooks also indulged us with other tasty treats such as Jalapeno Corn Bread. A favorite I might add. Others brought in homemade chip dip and others brought in their Lemonade concoctions.

All-in-all everyone was polite and everything went pleasantly smooth. To include good food with good conversation. I am thinking in this following piece, something went haywire at this chili cook off.

Houston Off-Duty Cop Allegedly Tossed Tear Gas at Rodeo Chili Cook-off

HOUSTON - A Houston police officer was suspended after he allegedly threw a tear gas canister at rivals during a chili cook-off competition on Friday.

Senior Officer Mike Hamby, 51, is suspended with pay during an internal affairs investigation for "criminal allegations," according to The Houston Chronicle.
Hamby was off-duty and part of a cook-off team when the incident happened, an unidentified co-worker told the paper.
The annual chili cook-off is traditionally a huge event with hundreds of teams. The three-day competition kicks off two weeks of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.
The organizer of a neighboring tent, sponsored by the USO, says her guests were overcome by the noxious gas.
"We were devastated by it," Susie Barlow told the Chronicle. "We have elderly people, and I have two folks that night who were a double and triple amputee in wheelchairs."
Rodeo officials say 117,000 people attended the cook-off on its final day this year.

My thoughts, I love the word Allegedly - "Allegedly" he threw a tear gas canister. And "Allegedly" people were devastated by it. I am not sure why or how the double and triple amputees play into the story? Where they overcome from the gas, gasping for air as snot flew from their faces and their eyes burned? Just to qualify, I have been through several gas chambers, so I know the feeling well. Also, for something as serious as a tear gas canister being tossed into a crowd of people or chili tent, wouldn't there be more meat, excuse the pun, in this story? I guess that is why I blog and not write professionally!!!! Have fun peeps!

GOLD GRILL - Apparently there's more to gold grills than just glitter and fashion statements. Reports from a New Orleans news source indicate the gleaming dental apparatus saved a man's life by deflecting a .22 gunshot to the mouth.

According to information from the Uptown Messenger, an online news source covering parts of urban New Orleans, Walter Davis was shot in the mouth during a Feb. 7 argument. The Uptown Messenger reported the shots were allegedly fired by younger brother Waltdell Davis in a struggle that ensued after finding Walter and a girlfriend smoking his marijuana.

Despite allegations of a gun being fired in his direction, the elder Davis brother is good as gold, reports said, as the bullet apparently bounced off his gold tooth, only causing minor injury to his gums and a superficial cut to his face.

Things aren't as bright for the younger Davis brother, with reports that he is facing several criminal charges stemming from the incident, including aggravated battery, parole violation and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported that Walter Davis declined to press charges against his brother.

Walter Davis truly had golden luck. Despite the claims, a few others have literally dodged bullets.

Joshua Smith, a police officer from Oakland, Tenn., made national headlines in 2009 when his badge allegedly deflected a bullet during a traffic stop gone awry. Though he was praised as a hero after the incident, local reports from the Commercial Appeal said many people doubted the veracity of his claims.

These doubts lead up to a multi-level investigation involving local, state and federal authorities. According to reports, Smith is no longer on the job.

Drunk German Calls Firefighters to Rescue Beer from Train

(NewsCore) - A drunk German triggered a train station's fire alarm Wednesday to alert firefighters to an impending disaster -- a train was speeding off with his beer, The Local reported.
The 44-year-old and his pal had stepped off the train in Kaiserslautern, southwestern Germany, to have a cigarette, leaving a bag full of beer on board.
But as the two friends puffed away, the train pulled off.
The elder man panicked and, wanting someone to come to his aid, smashed the fire alarm's glass case with his hand, police said.
Authorities scrambled to the scene and found the man had injured his hand and had a blood alcohol content of 0.195, the German news website reported.
"There was no real emergency," police said in a statement. "Because there was no other contact person on the platform, the drunk man sounded the alarm."

One of America's favorite past-times is to watch the coveted NFL play out the season ending Super Bowl. And one lucky city around the nation gets to hold the event. In this case, North Texas city of Arlington has that honor this year. This is also a popular venue to release outrageous commercials and vendors pays in the millions for mere seconds of air play.

As we North Texans get ready to host America's largest party, we have been instructed by TV commercials from Troy Aikman to show our guests our Texan hospitality. We the people are sure inclined to do so; however, some hotels are showing the rest of the nation that everything is bigger in Texas, especially hotel rates!

A small indication to this hotel rate hike, here is one example, the Days Inn in Arlington near Cowboys Stadium is charging $361 to $405 a night. $699 for a room at a Super 8 Motel on Super Bowl Sunday.

Also, let us not forget our beloved host, Jerry himself, charging over $200 to watch the Super Bowl in the parking lot on a big screen television. Also, Jerry has the NFL convinced to count those as tickets to achieve the record of most attendance of a Super Bowl.

So if you were to fly in for one night, pay $405 for the night and $200 for the parking lot room (not inside the stadium), you have spent $605 without the consideration of drinks or food or even transportation to and from the event. If you decide on a rental there will be a parking charge as well.
Parking can run you from $49.50 to $577.50, depending on how close they are to the stadium. Some parking lots are offering a flat rate plus a free shuttle to and from the game.

The gouging does not stop there, oh no sir, I have heard reports of price gouging on paraphernalia and other items that our Packer and Steeler fans would purchase for a mere 1000% price increase.
Slap a picture of the Stadium with Roman Numerals of XLV and slap a Packers or Steelers logo and you got some money!

Not only will the fans be paying for this so will the locals. The roads that have not been completed as of yet will be overly congested. I suggest not traveling the roads that weekend.
The traffic around the stadium is already a nightmare, adding a few hundred thousand more, just peachy. I guess if you are a taxi cab driver you will be doing well that day.

I have an idea, why not give me 50 bucks, a 6-pack of cold ones, and some chips. You can crash on my couch and watch the game in HD. No parking charges or any other hidden charges.

My two cents: Be weary of the parking situation, hotel situation, and any transportation charges that do not seem fair. Let us try to be fair to our visitors.

One Year in 2 Minutes!

If you have a simple 2 minutes to spare this is a pretty cool video. They are of still shots shot every 30 minutes for a year. The music accompanying the video is pretty cool too. It shows from January to the end of the December.

Eirik Solheim has a fascinating video to show you. The Norwegian media professional has created a true video time-lapse from more than 3,500 high-resolution images that were shot from one location during all of 2010. You can view the video, titled "One year in 2 minutes" on his Vimeo page.

Solheim , a project manager with the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, said he placed his old Canon 400D, a single-lens reflex camera with an EF-S 10-22 in his window in January of 2010. He then hooked the SLR to his home server, used an adapter to power it, and controlled the camera with software.

Solheim isn't finished with this project. "I am working on a video based on all the images," he said. "Nine minutes in total, the geek version. That will feature images from both day and night."

I am totally going to geek out and watch the nine minute version.

But how in the sense of did it spill on her doughnut and she thought - "hmmm that is some tasty powdered sugar!" Only to find it was comet? Dentist Helps Metro Detroit Woman Addicted to Comet Cleanser

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WJBK) - "I had eaten the household cleanser Comet for years and years and years and years," said Crystal. "It had, I guess, eroded the enamel off of my teeth, (and) then, of course, started going down to the roots."
She said she was hooked on Comet for nearly 30 years. She ate the cleanser nearly every day.
Crystal, who refrained from using her last name, attributed the strange addiction to a difficult childhood that included physical and sexual abuse.

"I thought maybe somehow I was cleaning myself out, that I felt dirty inside," Crystal said.
The Redford woman's story recently aired on The Learning Channel's "My Strange Addiction" series.

The program's producers asked Dr. Demi Kazanis of Royal Oak to evaluate the damage of eating Comet did to Crystal's teeth.
"I'd equate it to a meth mouth. Crystal had a lot of decay, a lot of infection. She was in extreme pain. She needed help," said Kazanis. "When I examined Crystal, I actually saw Comet cleanser in the remaining teeth that she had in the crevices. I knew what was going on."
Dr. Kazanis spent months working to restore and repair Crystal's teeth, providing more than $20,000 in dental work for free.
"It made me very happy. Most times people don't like to come to the dentist, and if I can make somebody happy and do something nice for somebody, I always welcome the opportunity," said Kazanis.
"I feel better physically. You have no idea what bad teeth can do to your physical health, very detrimental. I look better. I speak better," said Crystal.
She hopes telling the world her story will help others.
"If one person out there sees something in me that they have going on in themselves and they do something to stop it, the shame will be worth it," Crystal said.
