Heart shaped macarons for V-day

Happy Valentine's Day! Today I'm eating heart shaped macarons that I made. I used David Leibovitz's chocolate macaron recipe and omitted the cocoa powder but added in lots of pink food coloring. To make the hearts instead of piping circles you pipe a "V" which will round out to a cute heart in the oven. Even though they look cute on the outside the shell is still not perfect yet on the inside.

Filling? Chocolate ganache and white chocolate strawberry ganache.

What are your valentine's plans? I don't have any except making truffles with leftover chocolate ganache and then eating them by myself. Did I just admit that?? No, I think the sister and I will have a girl's night instead! I guess for us it's S.A.D. day! Last night was so funny at walgreens. The entire valentine's section was PACKED while all the other aisles were empty. Parents and boyfriends buying last minute candy! haha!

Fabric Flower Earrings [shop]

Each one is unique because of the pattern on the fabric.

Inspired by seeing a girl wear fabric flower earrings that were falling apart, I decided to make my own with my sewing skills! I used my favorite fabric ever from my stash, and I like how it is a mix of ivory and pink!

See it modeled. I only have a couple left! I originally made these for my sister's anime convention, but I did not end up going. I ended up sewing tons of poke balls for her instead LOL!

This was something I made last minute at the previous con and it was a hit. I decided to expand on the idea with other versions!

Who has Royal Wedding fever? I haven't been watching too much of it but tonight there was so much coverage I just couldn't peel my eyes away. I'm excited for it, and it's only a few hours awawy! I'll be staying up to watch, will you? I'm VERY curious about the dress!!

Vintage Luxe Heart Earrings & Jane Eyre

Last weekend I went on a Jane Eyre kick and watched a bunch of adaptations.

It was very satisfying and complete. Emotional enough for me to tear up once or twice. Since it was so long it is easy to get sucked in to their world.

I only scrubbed through this version on YouTube, but he's still quite enticing in his prime. I recognized him as Volkov from Chuck.

The first adaptation I ever saw. Probably 5+ years ago so I don't remember much besides liking it.

2011
Mia Wasikowska as Jane and Michael Fassbender as Edward Rochester. In Theaters NOW! You might recognizer Mia from Alice in Wonderland...

I find that Rochester was not as tormented as in the other adaptations. He comes off as devilishly wicked & playful- which is fine by me! Probably the best acting, music, & cinematography of them all, but my eyes only watered up a couple of times and not enough to make tears. I don't know why. I think I had too many things on my mind! The chemistry is not lacking. The place where this falls behind the first adaptation I mentioned is the length. At 2 hours it's not enough to cover a 500 page book so I'm left wanting to see this and that. If you liked the artsy and updated Pride and Prejudice of 2005 you will enjoy this too (except it's not cheery, but Gothic). I highly recommend this! GOD I even want to see it again!!

The only bad thing about these movies is that they leave me in a romantic desperation!

It's been a few weeks since I last posted but I'm still here making jewelry. I do continue on, but sometimes I don't find the time to post here. I have a bunch of new things coming up, but here is one bracelet that may be new to you. It's asymmetrical and I like it!

Also I wanted to let you know that I am working on some studs where 100% of the net proceeds will go to relief in Japan. I was browsing for the best place to donate, and I came across Save the Children.org. They have already sent a response team to Japan, and it seems their goals are to help the children in need while the parents help others and try to put their lives back together.

I'm glad to know that my friends in Japan were not affected, and I'm praying for all those who were.

Black Swan, New Years, Kit Kat

Hi all! I'm typing this in 14 degree weather because for some reason the computer room is not heated.. my fingers feel numb so I'm sorry if this is short. These are my Black Swan Inspired earrings. I used a mixture of monochromatic Swarovski pearls and crystals to represent the light and dark. Mostly the dark though. I added a pop of purple for interest. The purple crystals look different depending what it is seen against. I've demonstrated it here. I love that color!

Thank you for all the suggestions on what to give my parents for Christmas. There's many things around the house that need upgrading. I could probably have bought modern bar stools for them. Our family is practically glued to hgtv. Everytime kitchens come up my mom is pointing out the modern stools. Though if I purchased anything like that they would probably reject it due to our taste differences. I went with something small and sentimental.

My mom is notorious for breaking the nice glass cups we get her... a common topic for jokes. So I got her some more cups! I got these bodum (my fav glass brand) pavina tea/coffee cups from Borders but you can find them at most homestores and online. She has broken more than one of these already. (probably 4?) I also got her a baggie of makeup stuff and kitchen gadgets. For my dad I was stumped because he is the kind if person who will buy what he needs when he needs it. I ended up making a collage of photos he took from a microscope of some eye cells. They were dyed so each one is either blue, red, green, and multi-colored. It's really bold and large at 20x30. And custom frames don't come cheap! All in all it was a success. Thought ya might wanna know what I did even if it was more than a month ago.

Giveaway Part 3 plus Cookies & Cream Bark

This was my first time making bark candy! How to?
All you have to do is melt chocolate under low heat in your oven, and then when it's melted you add in the toppings you want. When you're done with that you just let it sit in the fridge for a couple of hours to harden. Make sure you use parchment paper on a cookie sheet. It will make clean up so easy! Break the bark with your hands or with a knife.

I used crushed up Oreo cookies (black part only) and crushed mini candy canes. Since I only used the black part of the Oreo I still had the filling left over. I chilled that and then rolled them up into little balls really fast before they got mushy and then rolled them in the Oreo dust. You can also roll them in the candy cane dust. Nothing goes to waste! I didn't include the "dust" from each in my bark for presentation reasons. If you do this make sure to crush up the "dust" so it's a uniform powder.

I know for sure next year I will be making even more bark! More different toppings too! If you want the recipe you can e-mail me. I tried making these cute bark boxes from the Martha Stewart magazine. The link to the templates is there. They are really cute but a little too small. Now for the bling...

Giveaway Part 2 and The Best Cookies Ever

Like last year I decided to bake the winner of my newspaper's cookie challenge. I figure let them test out 100s of recipes, and I'll just choose from there. There's a reason this cookie won beat out the rest. It's amazing, easy to bake, scoop, and EAT! It's still soft the next day! yay! Last year's was amazing as well!

T's Toffee Temptations. E-mail me if you want the recipe. I may post it on my other blog. I had to track down this recipe from author directly because they did not publish this online. From the article comments, lots of people were wondering like I was.

Oatmeal Cranberry Delights - This was the runner up. It took me awhile before I could get the proper drizzling on these cookies. They're really tasty but a little bit more crunchy than I wanted them to be.

All packed up and ready to give to friends! ;) I had fun making the labels! I don't know if I'll be able to bake anymore. It's hard not to sample the cookies out of the oven, and I should be keeping away from these sweets! I still have more dough from the Oatmeal Cranberry cookies to bake so hopefully I can get through that without sugar crashing.

Raincloud Earrings - The second storm [shop]
I debuted these cloud earrings at the Convention I went to this fall, but now I'm finally showing you here! The first pair was less dangly, so I thought I'd give it more of a rain feeling by using chain to dangle the beads. I think these are adorable, and I hope you rain lovers out there do too! The earring posts are sterling silver and so is the chain. Made with Swarovski crystals and pearls. The cloud is rhodium plated.

These are statement party earrings. The large cosmic cut swarovski crystal in fuchsia hangs from a handmade Vermeil wrapped ball. The ball was imported from India! 14K gold-filled ear wires.

It's way larger than pomegranate seeds though!

I hope everyone had a great and FULL Thanksgiving! I baked my favorite Country-Bread Stuffing with Parmesan, Raisins, and Pine Nuts and my first pumpkin pie! The pumpkin pie as actually pretty easy but the mini pies I was able to squeeze out were even better. Bite sized and addicting! The crust on them was crunchy and not soggy! I cut out circles with a glass cup from the 2nd pie crust dough. Then I placed them in the bottom of the cupcake pan and filled it with the extra pumpkin pie filling.

I used a glass pan for the full sized pie, but it always leaves the crust soggy.. so I need to remember to get a metal pie pan next time.

Imagine me saying it "Pa-ree" cuz that's how you say it. ;) hehe.
Now, these earrings are particularly special to me because I <3 all things French. I also find myself staring at the new dark grey Swarovski color. I grouped this stunning new dark grey crystal in a rivoli cut with a brand new heart shaped crystal in Indian Pink and a little pearl to top it off. Of course we have the Eiffel Tower in 18K gold plated detail. The rest of the components including the earwires are of ear friendly 14K gold-filled. Great for sensitive ears.

As of right now this is the ONLY pair. I do have 2 more Eiffel Tower charms that I could make into something.. but that is not decided yet. So get these while you can!

Before I realized it, it was mid-October already and I still haven't posted my special necklace I've been thinking about for months already!

If you like skulls and you think they're well... cute- then I think you'll love this necklace!

Día de los Muertos Necklace - only one! [shop]
For this necklace I used a Rhodium plated (white gold color) skull pendant carved with rose details, a white swarovski pearl, and a stationary resin blood red rose. This particular necklace is one of a kind because of the 24" silver plated chain I used. There's only one of this style chain. There is also a sterling option available.

In this close up you can see the detailed rose carvings and the ability to adjust the necklace so the rose is placed near the skull pendant. [shown with sterling chain]

Brides and Bridesmaids

Sorry for the lack of updates! Here is part of what I've been up to.

My guy cousin got married recently, and I wanted to send a little gift over to his bride before the wedding. Here is my "bride packaging."

I doodled these up and brought them to life! I like to sketch out earrings or mock them up in photoshop when I have down time.

I ended up using a smaller briolette because it looked more balanced in real life.

Gotta love the Crystal AB color. Here it looks blue.

Here on the skin it looks yellow!

I never met Stacy (the bride) before so I tried to make the earrings as irresistible as possible! ;) I had no idea what she was like. I didn't even expect her to wear these at her wedding so I was surprised to hear she did! I still have not met her since they live in California, and I didn't attend the wedding. Hopefully next year I'll see everyone for New Year's?

Here is my gorgeous new cousin Stacy! I love her dress and flowers. Very romantic!

A kiss on the cheek and a peek at the earrings in action. She is the first bride to wear earrings from me on her wedding! (that I know of)

I also had a request to customize my Little Leaves necklace to a fall theme. The bride wanted fall colors to match her bridesmaids. We settled on a nice chocolate brown bead and striking topaz heart.

I love these earrings! I was asked to make a matching pair of earrings for her maid of honor. I will have to make more of these and add them to my permanent collection.

Mulan Inspired Cluster Earrings

It all started from a really lousy doodle. I must find that doodle and show you. Well from a sad doodle to these earrings, I think they've come a long way! I hope you like my interpretation of one of my favorite movies. I cry every time!

Mulan Inspired Earrings "Bring Honor to Us" - $28, $26 sale [shop]
Inspired by Mulan's jewelry in the movie, I took the lily from her hair comb and the jade green from her necklace to design these Swarovski clusters. I put a combination of two colors similar to jade (not exactly) mixed together to a creatd depth of color. The grape vine shaped cluster is topped with a czech glass white flower and red accent bead. Lastly of course it must be on 14k gold-filled ear wires and chain (for sensitive ears).

Steph and Stacey had been asking about Mulan jewelry for a long time. I'm sorry for the extremely long delay! You're right Stacey, I do end up making you all wait an obscene amount of time after I do previews. I will try harder!
