This is the third installment of “The Rope Show” by Lee Reisig. In this episode Lee shares with us a project that he has been working on for the past 4 years. It is called the Jumphabet and it is a brilliant way to describe jump rope tricks concisely and accurately. It helps remove ambiguity when describing a trick. I’m still trying to digest it all at this point, but I can already see the power in what Lee is proposing here. He describes it as a “periodic table of jump rope skills”. As an engineer myself, I definitely appreciate his very academic approach to breaking down every skill into it’s fundamental building blocks. I now fully understand why Lee has been called the “Mad Scientist of Jump Rope”.

Now that the 2008 US National Jump Rope Championships are behind us, it’s time to get pumped for the World Championships. They will take place in less than a month in Cape Town, South Africa from July 22nd-30th. To help us all prepare… here’s a cool story about the development of the sport of Jump Rope in South Africa.

Sick Fusion Routine From DDCB 08

This is one of the best Fusion routines I’ve seen recently. This is from DOUBLE DUTCH CONTEST BELGIUM Vol.2. There are some great looking tricks in here. The leap frog front punch is pretty cool. And so is the two footed frog-180-high frog into a freeze headstand combination. Fun stuff. The jumpers and turners look super smooth throughout the whole routine.

Jump Rope Show: “Come Together”

Here is a great performance sent to us by the amazing Sebastian Deeg. The jumpers are Mathias De Jans (Belgium), Jonas Vermeulen (Belgium) and Sebastian (Germany).

The first time we did that Show was last year in December for a Tour in 9 different Cities in Germany and 1 in France! But we (Rope Skipping) been just a small part of a huge Show, with gymnasts, acrobatics and magicians. The video is from a Show 3 weeks ago (17th of may 2008) in Ludwigshafen (http://www.oneworld-twl.de). It was a big Show with lots of different variations of gymnasts, acrobatics and of course us Jump Rope.

The show is choreographed very well and they pull it off with no mistakes! Great job guys! Thanks for sharing Sebastian!

Here is a new video from pro skipper Peter Nestler. This is episode 25 of the Rope Masters videoKast. In this episode Peter invites coach Tommy Hager to help demonstrate a couple of Chinese Wheel tricks. Tommy Hager is a long time jump rope coach, a great jumper, and one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. The first skill is the basic inside/outside turn. The second trick is the new and amazingly intricate “reverse marlee mashup”.

Peter also lets us know that his long awaited Double Dutch and Chinese Wheel instructional video is now available. It clocks in at an amazing 7.5 hours worth of instruction spanning 4 DVDs. Jump Rope is the perfect sport to help combat childhood obesity. It is cheap, portable, and easy to do. Kids of all ages can pick up a rope and get started with the basics in minutes. Jumping rope is a lot of fun and most importantly it is a great exercise. For those reasons, more and more people are using the sport as a tool to help fight childhood obesity. Here is a great example. The Jump Kids Jump Movement™ is a statewide effort in Indiana led by Clarian Health, to encourage kids of all ages and abilities to get more active by jumping rope.
