This is a must know knot for any climber. Used for everything from self belay to crevasse rescue. Try this hitch out. It is real easy but believe me you can be really hooped if you don't know it. On the other hand this will get you out of a bind when nothing else will. Common knot for mountaineers who travel light in the big hills. Used to ascend a rope or self rescue out of a crevasse.

Climbing Tools: The Prussik Knot

Video download Climbing Tools: The Prussik Knot

Download

So you are planning upon practicing bouldering - a good choice! But there is a ton of ground work that has to be done as bouldering is not just about climbing and descending, it is a much more complicated part of rock climbing. The first part of the ground work is toning your your body and muscles. Chief requirements of bouldering are a toned body, flexibility, great muscle power, light weight and a good respiration. All these factors contribute to effective and safe climbing. In order to achieve such a level of physical fitness, you will need to do lots of exercise, such as frequent swimming, running, swift walking and push us and pull ups. In addition, gym work outs and Yoga will add to the benefit, as they will enhance respiration, flexibility and muscle toning. Once you have completed this ground work, to your satisfaction you may proceed to the actual climbing. Warming up your body and working up a mild sweat is absolutely essential due to the fact that a warmed up body has a better response and reflex, not to mention a greater ability to exert power and strength. It would also prevent your muscles from cramping up and in addition to that oxygen and blood will reach to every possible corner of your body. Once you are done proceed to the rock face and make some basic holds, with both your hands and feet. Once you feel that you are ready, have a look at the rope, waist harness, carabiner and descender. Now you are ready to surmount the rock.

Bouldering Techniques 2: Read the Route and Feel the Rock
The next important technique is to read the route or rather plan the route on the rock face that you wish to take. You will need to visualize and analyze the route that you want to take up. Hence, just plan out your foot holds and hand holds, if possible along fissure or cracks in the rock face. It is also advisable to visualize each hold and the route. It must be taken into consideration that you might need to alter the plan, during the actual climb. Hence, it is wise to spot and memorize alternative holds. A common mistake that many people make is to ignore the descend. It is also important that you visualize the descend, since not all ascend holds can be used for a safe descend.

Bouldering Techniques 3: Holds and Grip
Many of us enthusiastically take a tight grip over the hold that we have found. However, it is better to have a relaxed and firm grip. A relaxed and firm grip is especially essential for foot holds. You may achieve such a grip by equally distributing your weigh and leaning towards the rock face but resist the urge of hugging it. Many amateurs often wonder that how can this possibly be advantageous. Well, when you lean in towards the rock, the action of gravity that acts on your body, decreases and believe it or not, it decreases our weight and enhances your balance. Another tip that is often offered, is that leaning too much is not very healthy but leaning in a parallel manner, further betters the balance. Thus, making a relaxed and firm grip is better than making a tight grip.

Bouldering Techniques 4: Static Climbing
Among the many bouldering tips the one that is very much ignored is static climbing. It basically means that bouldering is a method of climbing where shifting of weight eventually and evenly is necessary. Practically speaking, all you need to do is make two holds with a similar axis on the rock such as left hand hold and right leg hold or vice versa. You may also balance out only on your two feet, but I would advise you against balancing on only one hand or foot or only on two hands.

Source : http://www.buzzle.com/articles/bouldering-techniques.html

It is the timeless sport of scaling high slopes on a mountain with the goal of reaching the top, or summit, in mind. Mountaineering is actually a combination of many other sports, like snow, ice, and rock climbing as well as hiking and often camping. Mountaineering is lifestyle.

Much of the introductory mountain climbing done by beginners is little more than hiking up hill. Because there is such a range of difficulty levels and it is easy to start, mountain climbing is very popular. The basic climbs also seem much less intimidating than if people had to start off scaling a straight up rock wall.

The other exciting part is that there is such variety in the sport even at its most basic levels. In fact, one day of mountain climbing can get you everything from freezing temperatures to unbearable heat due to changes in altitude, weather, and basic sub angles. This variety offers you the opportunity to use skills like problems solving, climbing skills, and overall physical conditioning.

When beginning mountaineering as a sport, there is a lot to consider in terms of training and equipment. In the beginning, supplies that are necessary really only include those similar to hiking: tents, sleeping bags, and rations are obviously a must, but little else. However, as the difficulty level increases and the slope becomes tougher, climbers will need ropes and other actual climbing equipment to ensure safety. In extreme climbing situations, rock and ice climbing gear is needed beyond the ropes and hiking equipment.

So with all of this in mind, how do you get started if you think mountaineering might be for you? The first thing you must do is figure out which type of mountain climbing would be best for you. Each type of mountain climbing, no matter what level, does require a certain amount of personal fitness as well as an investment of time and money. Choose the one that sounds the most like something you would enjoy, rather than just looking for the one most commonly associated with more clout. Decide whether you like hiking more than climbing, what kind of weather you prefer to be active in, and how much cardiovascular effort you are willing to put into the sport. Once you have answered many of those questions, you will have an easier time deciding which type of climbing will work best for you.

In addition, as a beginner, it may be a good idea to consider hiring a mountain guide. Mountain guides are professionals who are adept climbers and skiers who can help lead you up a mountain safely. They know the terrain and can help you with what you need to know and what you need to do in order to get to the summit safely in some of your early climbs. As a beginner, spending time with a mountain guide is a great way to learn the basics of mountaineering before you try doing it on your own on a mountain you don’t really know. As a general rule with most anything, learning with a professional is the best and safest way to get your start. If your guide is certified, it means that he or she has done a number of trainings and has literally thousands of hours worth of personal experience climbing. Even if you are not a beginner, but you wish to advance a mountain that is beyond your skill set, a guide will be able to assist you with that climb.

For many a person globally, mountain climbing has become a complete lifestyle. For some, it becomes almost a complete obsession. However, for many, mountaineering makes a wonderful little distraction from the mundane nine to five living and routine family life. It fills the same gap that golf might for many others. In addition, pursuing mastery of various aspects of climbing is a challenge that can last you the rest of your life and keep you in good physical condition. Many find that as they master one aspect of climbing, they immediately find themselves obsessed with the next phase. You just may find that one day you are that obsessed mastering climber, but the only way to find out is to get out there and get started right away.

One of the conducts of this exercise is Phillip Southan, a young entrepreneur from Green Pathways Tour. Flagship program is surfing in Cerro Negro, one of the active volcanoes of the most dangerous in Nicaragua.

Participants will climb a volcano that has 726 meters high, and then they drove from the top down with incredible speed. Obstacles they must deal. This is where the biggest challenge, in which participants have to master the right skateboard. The risk of a broken leg, or broken limbs, even death, peering. This is precisely the challenge surfers honored.

Another danger is the reply peek from time to time Cerro Negro volcano could be coughed, and this is very dangerous. Phillip Southan has changed the area's dangerous ‘Cerro Negro Volcano’ a place of fun. But Southan said, the greatest danger is not on fire but the mountain-made small mistakes can lead to participants wrote harm, could even be fatal.

This surf volcano has walked four years, but the 10,000 participants have participated.

Source : http://www.matabumi.com

Raung and Mt. Ijen. There are two main routes leading to the crater. The first route is from Banyuwangi to the south-west through Jambu village. By mini bus from Banyuwangi, we go to Licin village and by another mini bus go to Jambu village, as the last village.

From the Jambu village, we start trekking by passing Coffee and Clove Plantation along the way to a splendid tropical forest. This way is used daily by the workers to carry sulfur stores from Ijen Crater, so the path is quite wide and good. In the middle of the journey, we will find cold water from a small river. It will take 4 hours before getting at a prairie. There are three locked huts and some water from rain. We need another 1 and half hours to reach to the crater. On the way, there is a small office managing sulfur mining, in which we can buy drinks or cigarettes.

The second route is from Bondowoso to southeast passing Wonosari and Ijen Kaldera which is he biggest kaldera in Indonesia. From Bondowoso, just straight to Wonosari – Sukosari and continued to Sempol. First, because we are not too familiar with the characters as their river. If we pool skills are superb as the adventurer, the guidelines on safety should not ignore if we want to do the responsible activity. Position directly overlooking the sea this is a value-added "Tebing Siung" Cliffs other fields are usually in the middle or at the forest edge. Originally emerged from a group of boredom rafting guide in France. They want to swim in the river with a more interesting, more challenging. But those who are very familiar with the characters that make the river a few life preserver to one, then jump down. Yes, that is the embryo of as the birth of riverboard. It must be admitted, the French created the most creative challenges unimaginable before.

One factor in the challenge which is also known as hydrospeed this is speed. In the current very swift, surfer speed can exceed 30 km per hour. Not fast at all compared to the motorcycle. However, the other challenge is the direct relationship between the perpetrators with the rivers. It s just between you and the river, so the motto the lovers. Modern surfboard is generally made of foam rubber thickness is 8-12 cm. In the turbulent water of the river, sometimes thick board that does not mean anything. With the rubber boat or kayak, we are often swallowed cascade. With riverboard, almost all the time we are in parallel with the surface water. The rest, briefly disappear briefly into the air. That's why there are sites on the internet surfing the river to install the title Face Level.

Not the other, the French spark riverboarding this jacket to replace the originally simply tied with foam rubber. Forms also continue to be developed, to achieve the basic form of a surfboard that the river is now known.

Now, riverboarding already wide spread in Europe, America and Australia and New Zealand. Robert Carlson said, however, one of the leaders riverboarding modern, actual events have already hydrospeed since prehistoric era! How can? According to Carlson, who has jumped into the river with any means of float, and surf the flow, can be categorized as surfer river. For example, there are groups of people who take advantage of the ancient fallen trees or blocks of wood as a means of transportation. Until now no such activity still exists. For example, try to play the villages near the rivers. Children of primary school age with a relaxing bath in the river with the downpours often only banana trunks or bamboo. Seems prehistoric era still in progress.

Why riverboarding very late entering Indonesia? It's not just a matter of price, although price riverboard on average above 3 million if the exchange rate of rupiah. May play a role is a slow flow of information. Now, we can easily surf the internet, that information flow so as soon as the river flows after rainfall in the upstream, so that we in Indonesia can be surfing in the rivers of our immeasurable potential and challenges, and even participate in race-race hydrospeed that have been held in many other countries.
