And getting massage frequently can do even more. This is the beauty of bodywork. Taking part in this form of regularly scheduled self-care can play a huge part in how healthy you’ll be and how youthful you’ll remain with each passing year. Budgeting time and money for bodywork at consistent intervals is truly an investment in your health. And remember: just because massage feels like a pampering treat doesn’t mean it is any less therapeutic. Consider massage appointments a necessary piece of your health and wellness plan, and work with your practitioner to establish a treatment schedule that best meets your needs.

Benefits of Massage…
Massage is especially effective in treating tension headaches, back pain, arthritis, improving circulation and skin tone, reduce muscle tension, reducing anxiety and depression, and helping with chronic pain.

Massage Therapy, a combination of science and art, provides a relaxing experience by artistic hand strokes on the body to rejuvenate the mind and body and eliminate stress scientifically. The concept of massage is evident throughout history. The origin of the term ‘massage’ can be traced to four sources:

Greek - masso/massein, meaning to touch or to handle, also meaning to knead or to squeeze

Latin - massa, lifted from Greek masso and means the same

Arabic- mass'h or mass, means to press softly

Sanskrit- makeh, also means to press softly

The practice of massage however has its roots in the ancient Chinese, Greek, Roman, Indian and the Egyptian era. A Chinese book from 2,700 B.C., The Yellow Emperor's Classic Book of Internal Medicine, recommends 'breathing exercises, massage of skin and flesh, and exercises of hands and feet" as the appropriate treatment for -complete paralysis, chills, and fever." Massage one of the principal method of relieving pain for Greek and Roman physicians. Julius Caesar was apparently given a daily massage to treat neuralgia. Egyptian tomb paintings show people practicing massage. Ayurveda, the traditional Indian system of medicine, places great emphasis on massage and it remains widely practiced in India. "The Physician Must Be Experienced In Many Things," wrote Hippocrates, the father of Western medicine, in the 5th century B. C., "but assuredly in rubbing.. for rubbing can bind a joint that is too loose, and loosen a joint that is too rigid."

Benefits of Massage…

Massage is especially effective in treating tension headaches, back pain, arthritis, improving circulation and skin tone, reduce muscle tension, reducing anxiety and depression, and helping with chronic pain.

But there is an alterative, your home. If working out and getting sweaty in front of others is not for you or you just don’t have time to get to a gym, try making your home your personal gym.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Create a dedicated space. Find an area of your home where you can stake out your territory. Use some rubber exercise mats to cover the floor.

Dress for the occasion. The right gear is important. Choose shoes and clothing appropriate for your needs.

Make exercise fun. Watch your favorite TV shows or listen to music while your workout. You can record you favorite shows and play them back when you workout.

Use Video, Internet or TV fitness programs. Do some research and find a fitness program that works for you. It might be a Yoga DVD, or a daily workout routine on a fitness channel or a Buns of Steel video.

No equipment? If your room is limited in space, you don’t need equipment. Try doing pushups, crunches, jogging in place or dancing? Buy some inexpensive exercise bands, hand weights, a step bench or yoga mat.

Nintendo is not just for games. If your kids have a Nintendo Wii, then you have an workout routine. The Wii offers many exercise programs that offer gym quality exercises without the need for equipment and a lot of space. Plus it is a lot of fun.

You should gradually progress to 30 – 60 minutes of physical activity most days a week. Talk to your doctor if you have a medical condition or are new to exercise.

Working out at home can be just as effective as going to the gym. It can save you money, commuting time and it is more private.

So, what are you waiting for?

Stress – frayed nerves are a frequent cause of “tension” headaches and may trigger migraines. Try meditation, exercise or a massage to help ease stress and tension.
2. Eyestrain- focusing on one object (like a computer screen) for a long time can cause pain. Try taking “eye breaks.” Look out the window or get up and walk around for a minute or two.
3. Diet- Some foods like coffee, processed meats, MSG, red wine, chocolate, cheese, and citrus fruits can trigger a headache.
4. Sitting- Sitting for prolonged period of time, especially if you are hunched over a computer or on the phone can tighten muscles and lead to tension headaches. Try shifting positions, standing while on the phone, or taking a short walk.
5. Sleep- surprisingly to little or too much sleep can trigger a headache. Try controlling your internal clock by going to bed and waking up at the same time every day.
