This evening the kids and I did some light painting. The other day while at the grocery store, Carus found these little finger lights and she got them. There is a red, blue, and green one. I was excited for the possibility of doing this. They had lots of fun, and so did I.

This one is Adam running around the yard with all three. The shutter was open for 15 seconds.

My neighbor found some stray kittens this last week and after a couple days of feeding them she was able to coax them into a carrier and then brought them home.

They are very thin kitties, but seem healthy otherwise (per her vet). After a bath to remove the vegetable oil they were coated in, they are pretty fluffy too. (And now also smell better.) They are very friendly and loving. I was tempted to stick them in my pocket and bring them home. They would have fit.

I believe she is naming the orange one Roxy (a girl), and the black and white one Zag (a boy)(who has a little zag on the tip of his tail).

Don't they have AMAZING EYES!!! I hope I can snap a few more pictures of them. I am just in love with those eyes.

Some bloggers I follow, Bethany and Jen both posted this meme and I thought it would be fun to play along too.

A. Age: 29. I turn 30 this year, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm excited for what my 30s will bring, but still HOLY SHIT, I'M TURNING 30!

B. Bed size: Queen. And it's finally feeling like a queen sized bed, now that Yoda has been moved to sleeping with Adam, Leia sleeps on her bed and the cats have discovered the heated blankets on the kids bed.

C. Chore that you hate: Cleaning the cat box. If I could teach them to use the toilet I would, but Simba would probably decide it was a new toy and I'd be mopping up toilet water all the damn time and Wilbur is a scaredy cat so I doubt I could get him near one so cat box it is...

D. Dogs: Two, Yoda (the pug) and Leia (the lab puppy).

E. Essential start to your day: Coffee. Strong with a little French vanilla Coffeemate creamer. OR white chocolate mocha, no whip from a coffeeshop.

F. Favorite color: I like all colors for the most part and my favorite color varies with my mood; however, I am rather partial to blues and reds.

G. Gold or Silver: White gold or silver

H. Height: 5’4″

I. Instruments you play: None... I've always wanted to learn to play the guitar, the piano, and the violin. Maybe one day.

J. Job title: Mom. Medical transcriptionist. Homeschooler.

O. Overnight hospital stays: Couple nights for when I had the kids, plus the week after Adam was born when he was in the NICU and about a week when he was 9 months when he had RSV. He seemed to always have a cold as a baby, which I think has been a good thing after all because he rarely gets sick now. He carries the germs home for the rest of us, but he doesn't get sick that much. Carus on the other hand, has always had a hard time with her colds where they totally knock her out, but has yet to get a bad bad one (as in requiring hospitalization bad).

P. Pet peeves: The improper use of the words there/their/they’re and your/you’re. The fact that my car does not have remote locks. (I didn't realize that would be so annoying, but holy hell it is. Can't wait for us to get the aftermarket remote lock installed.)

Q. Quote from a movie: "And Daddy, they took my boot." "Oh, those are the ones I bought you." (The only one I could think of that wasn't from The Princess Bride, who both Jen and Bethany used.) "Inconceivable!"

R. Right- or left-handed: Right.

S. Siblings: Three brothers (Bud, Peter, and Charlie).

T. Tastes you do not like: Black licorice, olives, mushrooms (though I think that might be more texture than taste).

U. Underwear: Yes.

V. Vegetable(s) you hate: Um... can't think of one. Can we just say olives and mushrooms?

W. What makes you run late: Waiting for others to go. Also, sometimes I misjudge how long it will take to get there/get ready.

X. X-Rays you’ve had: About a bazillion kajillion, although I’ve never officially broken a bone. I've also had some CTs and some ultrasounds not related to pregnancy.

Y. Yummy food that you make: Lots of stuff. I'm a pretty good cook, if I say so myself. And I do.

Z. Zoo animal: Lions, tigers, and bears. Ooohh mmyyy

Be proud I didn't just twist off that cap and chug it. It was that kind of day/week.

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. If you want to know that sort of thing about wine in mini cartons. I picked it up cause it was cute and I hadn't tried it before.

(I AM exaggerating about my drinking, if you didn't know me/can't tell my tone.)

Raindrops on my windshield.

Pretty uninspired today. Today was the first day of rain we've had in about a week, and I miss the sun. I generally don't mind the rain, and do enjoy it a lot of the time (which is good cause hello, it rains a lot here) but I'm not feeling it right now. It's bumming me out.

The sun will be back, and probably soon. Just got to make it until then...

Weekend 365 and project update

35:366 - Saturday - A friend and I are doing a mystery quilt project with a local quilt shop (The Quilted Hill) and we headed out to Joann's to pick up fabric for the project and then out to the shop to get our first clue. I've never done a mystery quilt before and I'm pretty excited about it. A mystery quilt is a quilt pattern written in steps and revealed one part at a time to hide the final appearance of the finished quilt.

36:366 - Sunday - The fabric I'm using and the cutting for the first clue done. I have the rest of the month to do the piecing which should be great for my procrastination issue.

In other news, Robert got up the trim on the test window yesterday. He's not sure about it, but I like it. It's not finished, it needs painting (and will be painted in white).

Robert and I spent yesterday hanging out with some friends. We went to the home and remodeling show, went to Ikea, then out to dinner and a movie. This is our friend with his GIANT margarita at dinner. We ate at Red Lobster, which was good (I had never been before) and saw Underworld: Awakening in 3D (first time watching a movie in 3D, which I enjoyed much more than I thought I would). The movie was great, lots of action.

When we got in line at the theater to get tickets, there was a lady in front of us who treated us to the following conversation -

Lady: What movies are playing next?
Ticket counter person: Such and such, yada yada (I wasn't paying too close of attention), Man On A Ledge
Lady: Oh, what's Man On A Ledge about?
Ticket counter person: Uh, it's about a guy....on a...ledge...

And then I couldn't stop giggling so I'm sure what else was said and soon it was our turn to get our tickets. Continued giggling about it the rest of the night... and into today.

I'm easily amused.

That's my bedtime juice - Nyquil and bedtime at 7:45 pm (which you can't see but I thought you would be able to). Which is why I didn't upload this last night. I felt like poo and wanted sleepy so I could get better.

I am not better. I had more energy today, and was able to work, but my sneezing changed to coughing and chest congestion. Boo!

Dinner tonight. White bean and ham soup, adapted from this recipe (really, the only thing I adapted was I didn't have celery to put into it and I didn't add Tabasco).

My food photography needs work. The photo with the recipe looks much better... Something to learn!

I ended up unintentionally taking a break from the computer this weekend, only turning it on twice. It was rather nice to have a break. It's been a busy, crazy weekend, but yet not that busy or crazy. Just lots of happenings happening.

22:366 - Watching the end of the playoff game, hoping the 49ers make it to the Superbowl. Robert has always been a big 49er fan, so we were really rooting for them. Unfortunately, they didn't, but it was close. Maybe next year...
