The latter link is the one I cleaned up in terms of ID3 tags, as well as having the tracks in order. The original didn’t have it from what I recall. I also ran the songs through MixMeister to grab the BPM. So, your choice on which one to get it from; same MP3 files with exception to the ID3 tag update.

I have been fortunate to find some nuggets lately this past week. From across the world, I stumbled upon The Very Best. It is a collaboration project between Esau Mwamwaya & Radioclit (Johan Karlberg & Etienne Tron).

Esau Mwamwaya was born in Mzuzu in Malawi, East Africa. He grew up in the capital, Lilongwe, where he played drums with various groups, including the Masaka Band. He was a good friend of the legendary Evison Matafale and they played together for several years before Matafale was killed in Malawi police custody in 2003.

In 1999, Esau moved to London, England and has, until recently run a second-hand furniture store in Clapton, East London. Esau’s shop was on the same street as Radioclit’s old studio, and after the Radioclit boys bought a bike from Esau, they invited him to one of their housewarming parties.

Soon after, Esau and Radioclit became good friends and they started working on music together. Two years later, the project has a name, The Very Best.

Other than a self-entitled mixtape this past October (download link below), their debut/studio album Warm Heart of Africa will be released this Fall. So keep tuned in for that for sure. Lucky for us, they decided to release 2-tracks for general consumption while we wait for the launch (links below as well).

I had the title track Warm Heart of Africa (featuring Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend) on repeat for most parts of the day—make that “currently” as I just put it back on play! Yah, it’s that good, feel-good music that you just can’t stop listening to, especially on a Friday afternoon. I’ll definitely have to add this track to a Summertime playlist. Anyways, you don’t take my word for it, listen for yourself… just don’t be surprised when you start bobbing, dancing and feeling great (how Music should).

Rather than making an escape attempt on this debut to something that was some subtle artistic departure from the Lost Angels-flavored West Coast underground laid back rap that raised them, the duo has grown more apt to fully open their arms and embrace a vast array of what is relative to their own contemporary culture consumption today.

With an even more upped-tempo vocal cadence dancing on top of beatscapes that awaken even the hippest of skeptics, the music will make you jump up like a chimpanzee. An unbelievably charismatic live show, mixed with the most infectious hooks you’ve wrapped your ears around in quite some time, Rootbeer slaps a smile on your face that you simply can’t contain. My search led to a Lifehacker.com article (as usual, with this kind of things) written a while back about Gina Trapani’s Top 10 Quicksilver Plugins (at the time: November 2007). One of the plugins that intrigued me to check out was the Shelf module/plugin.

Rather than writing about what I learned, I figured I might as well show you. It was just convenient timing as I was checking out how to do screencasts—which are getting better and cooler with today’s technology. I happened to be testing out ScreenFlow, which has a nice UI a la Adobe Premiere/Flash (though its been ages using Premiere).

I had set my ScreenFlow recording with the setting to “Record Computer Audio”. I then checked out to listen to Cerritos All Stars‘ Live Mix Show on iTunes. It happened to be that they were rebroadcasting a show a couple of weeks back, when the Lakers were still playing Orlando. As soon as I hit the record button, Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” came on haha… But as soon as I got it uploaded and processed on Youtube, I got hit by a WMG note:

This video contains an audio track that has not been authorized by WMG. The audio has been disabled.

So I was onto Youtube’s audio library, and settled on A Mi Que’ by The Occasion—never heard of them but the track sounded nice and chill.[1]

Anyways, without further adieu,[2] here’s the debut of my first ever screencast to the subject of the Quicksilver plugin, Shelf (in HD, if that matters[3]).

  3. The process of this screencast was easy to my surprise. I just used the basic features of ScreenFlow. Not bad at all. I’ll play around with it more in the future when there is more time.
