Well, we got our appraisal back and are moving forward with closing on a house! This is definitely a new era in the JAC household. With buying a home comes all kinds of other hassles. We need to put in a fence to keep the kids from running out into traffic, call in a window covering guy to figure out some blinds for our abnormally shaped windows, and come up with a way to wash our clothes. That last one is actually the first one. We can live a few weeks keeping the children on a leash holding the kids’ hands and even living in a fishbowl for all the [Read More...]

*Review Product c/o Nellie’s All-natural* Well, after struggling with more hard water issues this Spring, it was time to experiment with more adventures in laundry detergent! We were suffering in a bad way with buildup from our previous detergent caused by our hard water. It is just SO HARD. I am interested to see if the water in our new place is a little softer. At least we will own finally and can get a water softener if necessary! I had yet to give Nellie’s All Natural Laundry Soda * a whirl, so it was time. Now, using a plain laundry soda, Arm&Hammer soda ash specifically, was the norm when [Read More...]

With my three year old’s speech delay, we have had a few funny mishaps when it comes to communication. Lucky mostly likes counting, saying his ABCs, and chasing us around the room saying “I’m gonna get you!!”. Lately our favorite game is the clean up game. I point to various items on the floor and ask him to bring them to me while we straighten up a room. With each item he hands me, I give him an enthusiastic “Thank you Lucky, thank you!”. And he beams with pride. A couple weeks back I kept hearing him loudly announcing a particular phrase while playing with his sister, or interacting [Read More...]

*Item c/o Perfective Ceuticals* When I was pregnant with my first child a funny thing happened. I needed to get my driver license renewed and I failed the eye test with a flare usually reserved for mice living in threes. When I received my fabulous looking new specs and put them on, my whole world changed. For the first time in about 15 years I could see the world in high-def and it was horrifying. Every little line on every face was magnified and obvious. Naturally, when I looked in the mirror, I was stunned to see just how many fine lines had appeared around my eyes and forehead.
*Review item c/o Baby Beduga* Here in the JAC household, our potty training adventures continue, albeit, with a tad bit of frustration. You may recall our cloth diaper issues with our toddler from last year. Well, I am happy to report that unless the occasional overnight diaper comes flying off, our three year old has stopped refusing all diapers, trainers, or undies. He even uses the potty chair every day, although sporadically. The speech delay has caused some communication issues, so trainers are definitely a must-have for us. Trainers are often expensive, at least as much as cloth diapers, which can be frustrating when you use them for a much [Read More...]

As a parent of two in diapers (yes, my three year old is taking a while to get with the program) I have encountered my fair share of diaper rash issues. I also admit to having A LOT of diaper creams. Different balms serve different purposes, and with cloth diapers, you need to be mindful of certain ingredients. I generally avoid synthetic ingredients, petroleum, and fish oils when choosing a diaper rash treatment, so when I had a chance to test out the new balm by Love Munchkin, I was all in! * Love Munchkin is a line of natural skin care using real ingredients and they recently came [Read More...]

Being active in the “crunchy” community, we have always tried to go as natural as possible for our family and teething has been no different. The first time I heard of Baltic Amber being used at a pain remedy, I was instantly intrigued. Does it work? Is it just a trend? Are they safe? Both of my kids have had a brutal time with teething.
