VMware vSphere 5 Installation

Hi,

Here is the Step by Step installation of VMware vSphere 5....vSphere 5 onwards only ESXi is the hypervisor from VMware

Put VMware ESXi disc in drive and boot the machine.. (Virtual/Physical)\

Boot Menu:

Loading ESXi installer

Shows VMware version and loading VMware ESXi installer

ESXi Installer WELCOME screen will come, press "Enter" to continue the installation

Press "F11" in EULA screen

Installer is scanning for available devices

Press Enter to continue with the selected disk (or you can change to required one)

Press Enter in default keyboard layout

Please enter the root password ( in ESXi 4 we'll set this after installation completed), and press enter to continue

Press "F11" to install

Installing ESXi 5.0.0

Installation Completed.....

After restart, the main screen of VMware ESXi 5.0.0 looks..

You can Download vSphere Client v5 and manage this ESXi

Samba 4 Domain Controller - Part 4 Adding Windows 2008R2 as Additional Domain controller for Samba4 Active directory

Install Windows 2008R2.

Change the computer name as you desired.

Then run "dcpromo"

select "Use advanced mode installation"

Click on next in operating system compatability screen..

Select "Existing forest" and select "Add a domain controller to an existing domain"

Type the domain name and set the credentials ..

click on next in select domain screen..

Click on next in select a site screen..

Select DNS server and Global Catalog if not selected and click on next..

Click on Yes in Active directory domain services installation wizard

Click on next in Install from a media screen..

Click on next in source domain controller.

Click on next in Location for database .... screen.

Click on next in summery screen.

Active directory domain services installation starting..

Click on finish to complete the installation.

Restart the server..

Login in to the server by using administrator username and password..

Now Logon to Linux server and check for dynamic DNS update...

It is showing that "win2k8" does not exist in DNS Server..

after some time see the result.

Now check the replication status in Linux.. showing successfull

Now check the replication status in Windows 2008R2 Server..

Create a user in linux server using the command..

"/usr/local/samba/bin/samba-tool newuser kishore kishore@123"

Join a XP machine to Domain and login into the XP machine using the above created user..

Applying Group policy..

Create a group policy (prohibit access to the control panel) in windows 2008R2 server..

Now logon to XP client and type control in run

will show error "Restrictions"..

That's it...

Samba 4 Domain Controller - Part 3 DNS Server Configuration

After successful installation of samba 4 alpha 13/14 follow these steps to configure DNS (bind) in linux..

open terminal and login as root (type su, press enter and then giv root password)

check the bind version by typing this command.

"/usr/sbin/named -V"

result should be above 9.7.2, if not please update bind by issuing the command "yum update bind"

Edit the bind config file (named.conf) using this command.

Default named.conf file will opened..

Edit the named.conf file like this..

Edit the "/etc/sysconfig/named" file..

change the DNS related files permissions and owners groups in samba folder (/usr/local/samba/private)

from:

to:

copy "/usr/local/samba/private/krb5.conf" to "/etc/"

start the DNS server by using this command "/etc/init.d/named start"

check the DNS server working with the follwing commands..

             host -t SRV _ldap._tcp.admingeeks.blogspot.com

             host -t SRV _kerberos._udp.admingeeks.blogspot.com

             host -t A dc.admingeeks.blogspot.com

check kerberos using the following command

kinit administrator

klist -e

VMware vSphere in VMware WorkStation (ESX, vCenter) - Part2

Step by Step Procedure to install and manage ESX server with VMware vCenter Server..in VMware Workstation.

Part-2: VMware vCenter Server installation...

Create a New Virtual Machine in VMware Workstation, and install windows 2003/2008 64bit edition in that VM.

Insert VMware vCenter Server DVD in VM.. Autoplay will open pop up window.

Click on vSphere Client.

Installation wizard for vSphere Client 4.1 will open, click on next.

Click on next.. in End user Patent agreement..

Select "i accept...." click on next.

Click on next in Customer Information..

Click on next..in Destination folder

Click on Install in the Ready to install program screen....

After finishing installation, launch vSphere Client..

Enter IP address of ESX server and give user name and password..

Select "Install this certificate ....." and click on ignore..

Click on OK in evaluation Notice..

Here is the Main screen of ESX server in vSphere Client..

Now Install the VMware vCenter Server..

Open VMware vCenter installer and click on vCenter Server..

Click on OK in Choose setup language Dialog box.

Click on Next..

Click on Next in End user Patent Agreement..

Select "I accept to... " and click on Next..

Enter customer information and click on next..

Click on next in Database options.

Click on next in vCenter Server Service

Click on next in Destination Folder..

Click on next in vCenter Server linked mode options.

Click on next in Configure ports.

Click on next in vCenter Server JVM Memory.

Click on Install.

Click on Finish once the installation is complete.

Congrats we've successfully installed VMware vCenter Server..

Step by Step Procedure to install and manage ESX server with VMware vCenter Server..in VMware Workstation.

Part-1: VMware ESX Server 4.1 installation...

Create a New Virtual Machine in VMware Workstation as follows..

here is the final VM

Power on the virtual machine.. ESX 4.1 boot menu will come, Press enter to install ESX in graphical mode

Loading of ESX will start..

Click on next in Welcome to ESX installer.

select i accept the EULA.

click on next in Select keyboard..

Click on next in Custome Drivers..

Click on Yes in Load the system drivers..

Click on next after completion of loading drivers..

Select Enter a serial no later in License.

Click Next on Network Configuration..

Click on next for adapter settings..

Click on next in Setup type..

Click on Next in ESX Storage Device

Click on the OK in the warning box

Select Time zone and click on next

Click on next in Date and time..

Set the root password..

Click on next in the summery page..

Installation starts now....

and Finished now..... Click on Next

Click on Finish to reboot the server...

And Finaly here is the ESX server Main Screen after reboot..

In Next part we'll install vCenter server in Windows 2008 x64 server and manage this ESX server.....

VMware ESXi in VMware Workstation

Here is the procedure to install VMware ESXi server 4.1 in VMware workstation.

Requirements:

PC with Intel VT Enabled at least 3GB, Dual core or Core2Duo
VMware workstation 6,7 or 7.1
enough disk space.

Change the VMware Workstation memory settings to use "allow the most virtual machine memory to be swapped"

Click on New Virtual Machine.

New Virtual Machine wizard will come

Click on Next, Select "I'll install the operating system Later".

Click on Next, Select " VMware ESX "as Guest operating system

Name the the virtual machine as you like

Specify Disk capacity

Click on Finish to create the VM

Click on Edit VM settings and change the CD/DVD properties to " Use ISO image file and select the VMware ESXi 4.1 ISO Image"

Click on "Power on this VM"

VMware VMvisor (ESXi) boot menu will come

press enter

VMware ESXi installer starts booting...

Press enter to install VMware ESXi 4.1

Press F11 to accept EULA.

Enter to continue with the selected Disk.

Press F11 to confirm install..

Installing ESXi...

Installation complete.. press enter to reboot.

Rebooting server..

After reboot Main screen will come...

Press F2 to customize the System.. press enter to continue.

By default password is notset, Press enter to Configure password

Configure the password..

Press enter to OK..

Esc to Logout from System Customization..

FTP Using a Shell Script

This script allows you to copy/put multiple files from server to client or client to server..

in Terminal login as root user. Follow the procedure.....

ex: my ftp script is named ftp.sh..

in that file content should be

AIX installation on a logical partition with HMC

This procedure can be used to perform a new or complete overwrite installation of base operating system (bos) on a logical partition with HMC.

Prerequisites:

The logical partition should be made and available and must be with..

One CD/DVD-ROM
Enough Disk Capacity
One Network adaptor
The minimum CPU and memory requirements as memory 512MB, Disk space 2.2GB

2. Make sure that the following details are available.

Hostname
Ipaddress
Net Mask
Name server (optional)
Domain Name (optional)
Gateway (optional)

Procedure:

the procedure to install AIX BOS as follows

activate the partition, as follows

Right-click on the partition to open the menu.
Select Activate. The Activate Partition menu opens with a selection of partition profiles. Be sure the correct profile is highlighted.
Select Open a terminal window or console session at the bottom of the menu to open a virtual terminal (vterm) window.
Select Advanced to open the Advanced options menu.
For the Boot mode, select SMS.
Select OK to close the Advanced options menu.
Select OK. A vterm window opens for the partition.

2.In the SMS menu on the vterm, do the following:

Press the 5 key and press Enter to select 5. Select Boot Options.

Press the 2 key and press Enter to select 2. Select Boot Devices.
Press the 1 key and press Enter to select 1. Select 1st Boot Device.
Press the 3 key and press Enter to select 3. CD/DVD.
Select the media type that corresponds to the media device and press Enter.
Select the device number that corresponds to the media device and press Enter. The media device is now the first device in the Current® Boot Sequence list.
Press the ESC key until you return to the Configure Boot Device Order menu.
Select the device number that corresponds to the hard disk and press Enter.
Press the x key to exit the SMS menu. Confirm that you want to exit SMS.

3. Boot from the AIX 5L Volume 1, as follows:

Select console and press Enter.

Select language for BOS Installation menus, and press Enter to open the Welcome to Base Operating System Installation and Maintenance menu.

Type 2 to select Change/Show Installation Settings and Install in the Choice field and press Enter.

4. Verify or Change BOS Installation Settings, as follows:

Type 1 in the Choice field to select the System Settings option.
Type 1 for New and Complete Overwrite in the Choice field and press Enter.
Note: The installation methods available depend on whether your disk has a previous version of AIX installed.
When the Change Disk(s) screen opens, you can change the destination disk for the installation. If the default shown is correct, type 0 in the Choice field and press Enter. To change the destination disk, do the following:
1. Type the number for each disk you choose in the Choice field and press Enter. Do not press Enter a final time until you have finished selecting all disks. If you must deselect a disk, type its number a second time and press Enter.
2. When you have finished selecting the disks, type 0 in the Choice field and press Enter. The Installation and Settings screen opens with the selected disks listed under System Settings.
If needed, change the primary language environment. Use the following steps to change the primary language used by this installation to select the language and cultural convention you want to use.
Note: Changes to the primary language environment do not take effect until after the Base Operating System Installation has completed and your system is rebooted.
1. Type 2 in the Choice field on the Installation and Settings screen to select the Primary Language Environment Settings option.
2. Select the appropriate set of cultural convention, language, and keyboard options. Most of the options are a predefined combination, however, you can define your own combination of options.
  - To choose a predefined Primary Language Environment®, type that number in the Choice field and press Enter.
  - To configure your own primary language environment, do the following:
    1. Select MORE CHOICES.
    2. Select Create Your Own Combination.
    3. When the Set Primary Cultural Convention screen opens, type the number in the Choice field that corresponds to the cultural convention of your choice and press Enter.
    4. When the Set Primary Language screen opens, type the number in the Choice field that corresponds to your choice for the primary language and press Enter.
    5. When the Set Keyboard screen opens, type the number in the Choice field that corresponds to the keyboard attached to the system and press Enter.
After you have made all of your selections, verify that the selections are correct. Press Enter to confirm your selections and to begin the BOS Installation. The system automatically reboots after installation is complete.

5. Switch the partition to Normal Mode, as follows:

Right-click on the partition profile to open the menu. Be sure the correct partition profile is highlighted.
Select Properties.
Select the Settings tab.
For the Boot Mode, select Normal.
Select OK to close the Properties menu.
Right-click on the partition to open the menu.
Select Restart Partition.
Select Immediate for the Restart Options.
Confirm that you want to restart the partition.
When the partition has restarted, right-click on the partition to open the menu.
Select Open terminal window to open a virtual terminal (vterm) window.

6. Complete the BOS Installation, as follows:

Type vt100 as the terminal type.

In the License Agreement menu, select Accept License Agreements.

Select yes to ACCEPT Installed License Agreements.

Press F10 (or Esc+0) to exit the License Agreement menu.

In the Installation Assistant main menu, select Set Date and Time.

Set the correct date, time, and time zone. Press the F3 (or Esc+3) key to return to the Installation Assistant main menu.
Select Set root Password. Set a root password for the partition.
Select Configure Network Communications. Select TCP/IP Startup. Select from the Available Network Interfaces and press Enter. Enter the appropriate network information in the Minimum Configuration and Startup menu and press Enter. Use the F3 (or Esc+3) key to return to the Installation Assistant main menu.
Exit the Installation Assistant by typing F10 (or Esc+0).
The vterm window displays a login prompt.

Samba 4 Domain Controller - Part 2

Step 2: Samba 4 download and Installation.

Download the samba 4 alpha 13 package from here
New: Download the samba 4 alpha 14 package from here

Download package to user's home directory or some other place.( In my case it is in /home/admin)

Now install/update some development libraries..

Open terminal and type "su", press enter. Give root password, press enter. Then type " yum install libacl-devel libblkid-devel gnutls-devel readline-devel python-devel gdb pkgconfig".

Once updated, type "ls -l"

untar the file with this command "tar -xvzf <filename>"
then "cd samba*"
then "cd source4"

follow the procedure to compile the samba package

./configure
make

to install samba type the following

make install

installer will install the samba to /usr/local/samba

Now we have to provision samba

The "provision" step sets up a basic user database, and is used when you are setting up your Samba4 server in its own domain.

make sure the you are in source4 directory.. type

./setup/provision --realm=admingeeks.blogspot.com --domain=ADMINGEEKS --adminpass=fedora@123 --server-role='domain controller'

run samba by this command

/usr/local/samba/sbin/samba

verify that samba service is running

verify samba server status

smbclient -L localhost -U%

That's it. We have done.. Now samba will act as domain controller. Windows XP, Vista, 7 clients can join to this domain..

Part 3: Configure DNS, Creating users, Managing users, Group Policy objects, Join Windows clients to this Domain, Windows server 2008 as Additional domain controller to samba.......

Samba 4 Domain Controller - Part 1

Here is the step by step procedure to install samba 4 domain controller.

Step 1: Server OS Installation.

Server minimum requirements:

1. PC with Dual Core/Core2 Duo processor.
2. 512MB RAM (2GB for better performance).
3. 100/1000 mpbs ethernet.
4. DVD-ROM.
5. Internet Connection (to download Samba and other libraries).
6. Fedora Core 13 media.

Server OS (Fedora Core 13) installation.

Put the Fedora 13 media in DVD ROM and boot the system.

select " Install a new system or upgrade an existing system" from menu.

Skip the media test

click on next

click next with English as language

click next

click next with basic storage option selected.

click re-initialize all, Click next

Enter host name for this server. ex: dc.admingeeks.blogspot.com (server name: dc, domain name: admingeeks.blogspot.com) , click next

select time zone and click next

enter the root password and confirm it.

select "use all space" option if you don't have any idea on partitioning, or select create custom layout if you know how to partitioning..

Click next with selected option.

click next with default settings for boot loader.

select "customize now", Click next

select " Development" on left side pane and select "Development Libraries", "Development tools" on right side

select "Servers" on leftside pane and select DNS Name server and FTP server, Click Next.

installation is going on, go and have some coffee..

Congratulations, your Fedora installation is complete. Click on Reboot

After restart, Click on Forward in Welcome screen.

Create a user

click Forward on date & time, Hardware Profile and Click on Finish.
