Tips For How To Care For And Groom A Yorkie Puppy

Yorkshire Terriers, or Yorkies, are unique little dogs with a look that’s all their own. These little lap dogs with long fur tend make great pets, both outgoing and affectionate, craving plenty of attention from their owner. These dogs are fiercely territorial, but can still be good with other pets and with older children. Dog trainer who know how to care for a Yorkie puppy will find that they have a beautiful little pet that gives love and devotion. Learning the basics of how to care for and groom a Yorkie puppy will prove useful.

Long, Long Fur

One of the interesting features of these dogs is that instead of a fur coat, their coat is much closer to hair, constantly growing, which means they can develop long hair styles. Knowing how to do Yorkie puppy training and its hair will prevent you from having a dog with ugly tangles. Because the hair is constantly growing, this breed will need frequent trims to prevent its coat from getting too long.

For those who want a dog with a short coat or want an easy time of learning how to care for a Yorkie puppy and its fur, simply have the groomer clip the fur short. A short clip will prevent the fur from getting too long for a while. However, if you’re planning to show your Yorkie at dog shows or want to keep it long, frequent brushing and clipping will be necessary. And of course, one thing to remember in learning how to care for a Yorkie puppy is that the long fur on top of its head traditionally is tied with a bow, creating a topknot.

Strong Personalities

For such a little dog, Yorkies have very strong, willful personalities, and you should take this into account when learning how to care for a Yorkie puppy. Because they do have such strong personalities, these dogs will respond best to dog training with firmness. However, since they also love attention, this gives you an easy way to work with the dog, since attention and praise when they do respond to attention will be helpful.

On the other hand, since they hate to be ignored, the worst thing you can do when learning how to care for a Yorkie puppy is to ignore it. Dogs such as these will develop terrible personalities and more aggressive behavior if ignored, so take care to give your Yorkie plenty of attention. Those that do will find that they have a little dog that’s great to have around.

Methods to Use to Stop Dog Chasing

There are many different important issues that dog owners have to address with their dogs. Some of these involve barking problems, digging problems and sometimes jumping up on people. The best way to solve these issues is to prevent them before they start, training puppies to be very obedient and live up to expectations through consistent reinforcement of the proper behaviors. Another training issue that sometimes comes up is to stop dog chasing since it can be dangerous to the dog as well as the individuals involved. There are different methods to use to stop dog chasing and preventing this issue requires that the individual be consistent with whatever method he chooses to use.

Prevention

One way to stop dogs from chasing cars is to never allow the dog to be outside without supervision and a leash. Dogs should never be allowed to run freely outside since they endanger themselves and others when they come near the road. Even if the individual lives in a rural area where there are not many cars, the dog should be trained to stay within its yard, or territory, so that it does not get into the road and cause an accident. This will also stop a dog from chasing individuals that come around the dog’s territory.Allowing a dog to chase people or other animals is endangering the dog as well as other creatures. This also helps to create aggression in the dog, something that dog owners do not want to foster in their family dog.

When the dog is chasing the owner or playing with him, the owner should never give the dog any reinforcement of that behavior. Even though playing chase can be fun, it creates aggressive behavior in the dog as well as the chasing behavior that the owner would not want to occur around visitors to the home. The way to stop dog chasing is to refuse to run away from the dog when he tries to play in this manner. The individual should always turn his or her back to the dog and refuse to give the dog any attention when it exhibits this behavior. When the dog decides to calm down, then the individual should turn his attention to the dog in other to give it praise.Another way to help to reinforce good behavior and stop dog chasing is to tell the dog to sit when it is in the process of starting the chase behavior. When the dog sits, the owner should give it attention so that the positive behavior is reinforced and the negative behavior is avoided.

This is a post from: Just For The Dogs

Saint Bernard Puppy Care Takes Patience

Saint Bernard puppy training will take a lot of patience from its new family. Although cute and cuddly with a large tongue and lots of fur, this pup has a very fast growth rate. He will be a bear of a puppy in no time at all. The Saint Bernard’s fast growth is a trait within the Saint Bernard breed. This fast growth rate leads to serious deterioration of the bones if the dog does not get proper food and exercise in his early months and years.

The majority of Saint Bernard dogs are eventually afflicted with hip dysplasia or osteosarcoma. So, it is extremely important in Saint Bernard puppy care, that your puppy get the correct amount of nutrients and the proper exercise. Other than this one specific trait, the care of Saint Bernard puppies is not that unusual to any other breed of puppy.

The Early Weeks

The early weeks of your Saint Bernard puppy care should be limited to enjoyment of master and dog. Puppies are like infants and are unable to learn in the early weeks. So have plenty of toys for your puppy and lots of playtime with master. Saint Bernard puppies grow so large that they need a lot of socialization throughout their young lives. The environment and treatment of the puppy in his early years will have a big impact on his personality and social skills later in life. Without socialization in the early years, these dogs can become quite aggressive. Obviously, families do not need a big aggressive dog as a family pet.

A Big Bundle of Energy

Saint Bernard puppies are great big bundles of energy. They need proper nutrition because of their active lifestyle. Your Saint Bernard dog training should consist of high quality dog food. This food will help keep your puppy happy and healthy. Your vet or local pet store can recommend the best food for your Saint Bernard puppy care. Puppies that are 8 to 12 weeks old need to be fed three or four times a day. Puppies that are 3 to 6 months old need to be fed three times a day, and puppies 6 to 12 months old need to be fed twice a day.

After getting on a proper feeding and exercise schedule, it is probably time to begin training. The best way to train your puppy is in a positive and consistent manner. Housebreaking your puppy is a big part of your Saint Bernard puppy care.

Taking him outside often, and especially after he has eaten, will make it an easier experience on both of you. A firm “go” when outside is a good idea. Keep your puppy within sight as much as possible when indoors, and if you don’t catch him within 30 seconds of ‘going’ indoors, do not bother scolding him.

Eventually, your puppy will catch on and your Saint Bernard puppy care will be successful. Remember to enjoy this ‘little’ puppy time, because your little puppy comes from a large-breed category. In no time, your puppy will become the king of your household.

In the course of a couple of decades, there is a keen interest among pet owners to pamper their animal friends. Due to this trend, there is a great improvement in the area of pet care and your pet can now enjoy the very best of services. Looking at some of these new trends in pet care is quite interesting, though you may not find something suitable for your pet.

One service for dogs is a day care center. A typical pet owner is part of today’s busy lifestyle. Pet owners may not be able to take out time from their tight schedules to be with their animal companions. Many pet owners are unwilling to leave pets unattended at home each day. Get more help on the topic of custom dog portrait.

A center caring for dogs operates on the same principle as that of a center for child care. You can pay for your pet’s grooming and care on the basis of the service you expect or even the number of days that you want to keep your pet at the care center. There is a great demand for doggie care services, so there is an increase in the number of doggie day care centers in many cities.

Many hotels nowadays accept customers along with their dogs. More and more pets are traveling with their owners. Many pet owners are now taking their animal companions on business trips and vacations. Some hotels actually make unique arrangements to accommodate people on business tours with their pets. Get more help on the topic of pet portrait artist.

Hotels designed especially for pets are being opened at many locations. These hotels primarily cater to dogs, but the acceptable “clientele” at some of these venues is beginning to expand. Pet hotels or improvised kennels are used by pet owners to house their pets in the best possible place in case they want to go away on a trip.

Pet spas are in existence now. The ultimate enjoyment for your pet would be for it to spend a day at a spa. Pet spas provide the best food and grooming to your animal friends, something that they have never experienced before. Of course, a dog spending time at a spa does come with what oftentimes will be a hefty a price tag. You need to make sure that your dog will enjoy the spa treatments you are planning for him before you actually pay out the cash.

Take your dog to the dog park where he will enjoy more with others of his kind rather than going to a pet spa. In big towns, you will find new dog parks being opened regularly. In future, there will be dog parks within every community, world wide, say the experts.

Tips To Potty Training Puppies

Getting a new puppy is very exciting. It doesn’t take long, however, to realize that a new puppy takes more patience than you may have thought. Potty training a puppy, including teaching him to go outside requires a lot of effort on your part. The biggest question new owners ask all the time is how to potty train a puppy.

If you are trying to potty train your puppy too soon, you’ll probably realize it. You will not have much luck until the puppy is around 2 months old. An important consideration in training your puppy is that you need to establish a routine that will help teach the puppy when it is time to go outside and potty.

Instead of running your puppy outside every few minutes, start with thirty minute intervals. The times between going outside can be longer or shorter depending on your dog. Then, take your puppy out around mealtime, so that your own meal will not be interrupted to jump up and run outside with your puppy.

Get a routine going and maintain it and you will have your puppy potty trained in no time. Trust me; it seems to take forever if you don’t work with your dog on a schedule. You and your puppy will be more happy with a schedule which you intend to stick with.

If you think working on a routine takes potty training your dog too far, reconsider. Establishing a routine is a proven way to train your dog and it is pretty simple to establish a regular routine. Your dog will learn more easily when following a routine.

Sometimes you have to try to determine why your puppy doesn’t want to go outside. This is difficult, but not the worst problem you will face. There are other issues like puppy whining and barking. Take one thing at a time. Don’t give your puppy sensory overload. Get him accustomed to pottying outside first. This will be your most pressing task. Keep up and be persistent. In doing so, you will learn how to house break a puppy.

Why Buy A Dog Cage?

Many pet owners choose to let their pets roam free around the house all hours of the night, while others choose to buy cages to place them in. Those who are used to letting their pets explore often refuse to buy any type of cage for their pet. Some people might ask why buy a dog cage? Dog cages are a relatively cheap way of training a pet a particular discipline.

A dog cage comes in a wide array of colors, shapes, sizes and budgets to suit almost anyone’s needs. For the larger dogs, a steel cage is recommended due to its strength and long life. There are many places where you can get a dog cage at great savings. Check the largest retail pet store outlet in your area as you will find many great bargains.

Transporting a pet becomes a much easier task when placed in a cage, especially if you are going to a place where there will be lots of animals. If your pet is a little leery of new surroundings or does not like to go to the vet and shows signs of anguish then placing it inside a cage will help it to feel more secure and unobtainable from other animals.

Depending on what type of cage you choose, make sure to toss in some toys, blankets, and bones as a way to make the animal relax and feel comfort within the cage. Dog cages can also be purchased online through various sites, so do a Google search for them and check for one that suits you both in taste and budget.

Dog cages are reasonably priced so a good idea would be to invest in a larger, more expensive one for home and a cheaper, but well made plastic carrier that can be used to travel short distances, such as to the vet’s for a check-up.

The Right Dog Food Will Keep Your Dearie Happy

If you want your dogs to remain happy and content then you have to feed them with the best dog food. This in turn means that you will have to consider a few things that will help you pick the best foods for your dog, especially when you are planning on buying dry dog food. Though it is quite a possible that your dog(s) might not have any predilection between dry and wet dog foods it still pays to see which type your dog loves the most. In case of most dogs they do tend to be picky and so you have to use trial and error methods to establish which kind your dog loves the best.

Regulate His Diet

It is also a good idea to ensure feeding your dog with regulated diet so that you can choose certain dog foods that the dog will relish and eat happily. give rise to numerous health concerns inc It also means avoiding eating him with human food as this can luding get aches and Obesity as too problems with behavior.

Another authoritative consideration related to dog food is that you must hold feeding him according to his body weight and for more data you must check the dog food label to see how much of a portion is safe for feeding your darling dog. Even when starting your pet on a new dog food it pays to start off slowly to ensure that the food goes down well with your dog and does not make him feel sick.

If you want your pet to feed on moist food you can add a little water to his dry dog food and get the desired results though be careful that by adding water to his food, it can spoil the smell of his food. And, after having fed your pet dog it is also necessary that you ensure that he gets his fair share of exercise so that he remains in shape.

It pays to also select dog food that has enough vitamin content as this will help to create a shinier coat and his nails too will grow stronger. When picking his food, you should check the major dog food brands which are well known for having a lot of nutritious content and which also come in many flavors that will appeal to your dog’s senses. Some dog lamb accompanied by rice is OK for your dog.

Choosing the right dog food can often be confusing because of the different ingredients used as too because of the terminology used. There are also foods that are suited for puppies and those that are suited for larger sized dog breeds and you will also come across foods that help control your pet’s weight and there are also wellness dog foods that suit pets that have allergies or some other kind of health problems.

Times have so changed since the root of the nineteenth century before which dogs broadly speaking subsisted on wheat, bread and barleycorn and rye. Only rarely did dog owners feed their dogs with meat. During the nineteenth century feeding dogs with meat was something that signified the dog owner’s status – that is until the first dog food was introduced in the year 1860 when in England an American called James Spratt founded his own dog food company.

Since then dog food has become big business and of course many changes have taken place in what we can and cannot feed our pets. The fifties saw the advent of dry dog food and today there is much variety in the type of commercially produced dog food that is available on the market.

The bottom line is that you should only feed your dog the correct type and amount of food. For a ten pound dog it is necessary that he gets 850 calories on a daily basis; for a twenty pound dog the number of calories should not exceed 1400 per day while a thirty pound dog must not be fed more than 1800 calories on a daily basis and a fifty pound dog should get at most 2700 calories per day.

Beagle Puppy Training for the First Time Beagle Owner

There are few things in life that are cuter than a beagle puppy, with his floppy ears, inquisitive eyes and a tail that always seems to be in motion. Those cute pups can be quite a handful however, so it is important to arm yourself with information about proper beagle puppy training before you bring your new addition home. Fortunately, there are many great resources that can give you the basics of beagle puppy care, from your veterinarian to your local library, and even on the Internet.

Beagles originated somewhere around 200 AD, when they were bred in Great Britain for hunting small animals. They were brought over to the United States shortly after this nation was founded, and the first beagles to set paws in this country came from some of the finest hunting packs in England. These dogs come in a variety of shades and patterns, with black, tan and white being the most common color combination. However, you might also see beagles in shades of grey, red or even blue hues.

Beagle Puppy Care Basics

Beagles are natural born “chasers” so it is important as part of your beagle puppy care to have a fenced back yard that will keep your pup safely confined. When your dog is out of his yard, it is very important for him to be on a leash at all times so he does not take off on you. Beagles are social creatures by nature, so another part of your beagle puppy care will be to play with your pup frequently, and offer plenty of attention and affection. If you train your beagle pup right from the beginning, he will most likely become an excellent family dog that will get along with children and other dogs alike.

Beagles are fairly intelligent dogs, and will house train as easily as most other breeds. The key to successful dog training will mainly lie with you, and will require consistency and patience until your puppy gets the hang of knowing where to potty. Crate training is a good place to start with many dogs, since this tool will give your pup a secure place to sleep at night, as well as the opportunity for you to help him develop gradual bladder control.

Many veterinarians and breeders will recommend obedience classes as part of your beagle puppy care. These courses will teach you how to train your dog to be an obedient and acceptable member of your family. You can find obedience classes through your veterinarian, breeder or local pet store.

What Are the Advantages of Crate Training?

When done correctly, crate training benefits both your dog and you. It will create a much happier household for all family members when you dog learns and understands his boundaries.

Housebreaking Will Be Much Easier

Since dogs in general do not like to sleep in their own mess, housebreaking will become much easier. Dogs generally develop better bladder control when confined to dog cages over a specific time. He will learn when to relieve himself after taking him outside immediately after his release from his cage.

Dogs, being den animals, generally like their place clean and quiet. It is also good to remember that puppies need to go more often, so do not keep them in the crate for a long period.

Dog Crates Will Limit Destructive Behaviors

Since your dog naturally love chewing on things, your job is to train him on acceptable objects. Your dog crate will assist you in this job. By providing acceptable chew toys in his crate, you dog will begin to learn the right things to chew on and in the right place.

A Crate Will Protect Your Dog From Household Dangers

You can potentially put your dog in danger unnecessarily if left to roam unsupervised. As you may know, a house may contain many potentially dangerous objects to chew on. Your dog may not realize the danger chewing on electric wires or certain plants or foods.

Proper crate training of your dog provides more confidence that your dog will limit getting in trouble even when you are not around to supervise.

Dog Crates Make Traveling Safer

Containment in a dog crate helps eliminate some possible distractions if you have a very active dog. A crate trained dog makes your trip more peaceful as your dog rest contently in his crate.

Crates provides a safe place for your dog when he is tired, not feeling well or just wants to be alone.

Do you ever notice dogs sleeping under tables or desks? Naturally, dogs like small enclosed spaces in your home that may mimic a den. Dog crates can serve as a great refuge and excellent dens your dog can hangout in. Crates will also prepare your dog from some potentially stressful situations like going to the vet.

As you can see, crate training is beneficial for both your dog and you. Start your crate training today, buy a dog cage, and reap the benefits.
