The mayonnaise jar

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 Beers.

A professor stood before his philosophy
class and had some items in front of him.

When the class began, he wordlessly picked up
a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded
to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full.

They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and
poured them into the jar.
He shook the jar lightly.

The pebbles rolled into the open
areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students
again if the jar was full.

They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box
of sand and poured it into the jar.

Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full.

The students responded
with a unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced two Beers from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand.

The students laughed..

'Now,' said the professor as the laughter subsided,
'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.

The golf balls are the important things---your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life
would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job,
your house and your car.

The sand is everything else---the small stuff.

'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued,
'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.

The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

Pay attention to the things that
are critical to your happiness.

Spend time with your children.

Spend time with your parents.

Visit with grandparents.

Take time to get medical checkups.

Take your spouse out to dinner.

Play another 18.

There will always be time to clean
the house and fix the disposal.

Take care of the golf balls first---
the things that really matter.

Set your priorities.

The rest is just sand.

One of the students raised her hand and inquired
what the Beer represented.

The professor smiled and said,
'I'm glad you asked.'

The Beer just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of Beers with a friend.

Are words that were used to intimidate me.

Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen

On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Obama or Clinton!

At the top of the Senate there arose such a clatter

To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.

And we spoke not a word as they took away our faith

Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace.

The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded

The reason for the season stopped before it started.

My favorite new homepage

Since I started using the computer I have always used Firefox and made iGoogle my homepage. I loved it and I was faithful to it.

Then I read a piece on my very favorite website of all time make use of.

It was in an article entitled "MyFav.es: Create Minimalist Start Page With Favorite Website Icons " which can be found here.

I always trust anything written by this great group of people. I have been turned onto many sites that I never would have found on my own. It was about the same time the article above came out that I was getting tired of iGoogle as my home page. I was looking for something different.

I have written a post on a firefox add on that I swore by called morning coffee. I realized it was something similar to morning coffee that I was looking for in a start page.

I found it in MyFavs.

When it first came out one could have 4 "links" on their homepage such as this.

With the background choice of "Lights On"

or "Lights Out."

I tried it and loved it for its simplicity.

Now they have come out with more options (sites) to choose from and the ability to make your own site button to use.

I have now added several sites. I know it was meant for simplicity, but for me THIS is simplicity.

I am hooked on it.

The ability to add your own sites has made it perfect for what I want in a start page. They now also offer several backgrounds, different ways of having your buttons on your page. You can choose colors for the buttons you are making with your favorite sites.

The 2 pictures below are from my homepage. I switch the background every couple of days just for variety.

On my top row I have the usual sites except I made the star link to make use of the site I am writing about.

The next row is Stumbleupon, Picasso web albums and the next two are to Gamehouse and Bigfish games. I check these sites on a daily basis, as they offer a new game everyday and I will admit, I have several.

The orange O is for the "Orange County Register" the newspaper from southern Ca. that I grew up on and still read on a daily basis even today.

The next row is my most used. They belong to my blogs at blogger. Without navigation bars on most templates these days, it's a hassle to write, edit and check your posts.

First you have to go to blogger, then to your dashboard, then to which blog you want to post on (I have 4) then to design. All to get to the "add and arrange page elements" page where you can add a picture, HTML, or gadget. What a process!

Not anymore!

I have the S linked to "Scroll Dust Woman's" add and arrange page.

The D is to the "add and arrange page elements" page to "A Daily Laugh."

The J is for this blog "Just my day blog."

These simple buttons have brought a lot of the joy of blogging back to me. I hated having to go through a gazillion clicks to just add a picture or edit my posts.

The last button W is to a friend of mines blog called Woodsterman.

A blog I can now just do a "check it out thing" with one simple click.

Myfav.es has made my Internet usage a much more enjoyable experience.

I also want to add that you can make changes to your sites/buttons right on your page. You don't even need to leave it!

Now THAT'S simplicity!!!

Most of these photos I personally find appalling! The only time I can see an animal wearing clothes is if they truly need to wear a sweater due to the elements. For the most part Dogs have a wearable coat on for a reason!

They look real happy, don't ya think? Sad!

This one is just terrible in my opinion. See the man's hand holding this scared and uncomfortable dog?

There are those that really think this is cute. Although I may say awwwww, when first I see pictures like this, I believe it borders on animal abuse.
Dolls are meant to be dressed up, NOT dogs!!!

Photographer Michel Denis-Huot, who captured these amazing pictures on safari in Kenya 's Masai Mara in October last year, said he was astounded by what he saw:
"These three brothers (cheetahs) have been living together since they left their mother at about 18 months old,' he said. 'On the morning we saw them, they seemed not to be hungry, walking quickly but stopping sometimes to play together. 'At one point, they met a group of impala who ran away. But one youngster was not quick enough and the brothers caught it easily'."
These extraordinary scenes followed.

I overheard a father and daughter in their last moments together at the airport. They had announced the departure.

Standing near the security gate, they hugged and the Father said, 'I love you, and I wish you enough.'

The daughter replied, 'Dad, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Dad.'

They kissed and the daughter left. The Father walked over to the window where I was seated. Standing there I could see he wanted and needed to cry. I tried not to intrude on his privacy, but he welcomed me in by asking, 'Did you ever say good-bye to someone knowing it would be forever?'
'Yes, I have,' I replied. 'Forgive me for asking, but why is this a forever good-bye?'..

'I am old, and she lives so far away. I have challenges ahead and the reality is - the next trip back will be for my funeral,' he said.

'When you were saying good-bye, I heard you say, 'I wish you enough.' May I ask what that means?'

He began to smile. 'That's a wish that has been handed down from other generations. My parents used to say it to everyone...' He paused a moment and looked up as if trying to remember it in detail, and he smiled even more. 'When we said, 'I wish you enough,' we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to sustain them.' Then turning toward me, he shared the following as if he were reciting it from memory.

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the day may appear.

I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting.

I received this the other day as an e-mail. It was said that a 16 year old terminally ill girl had wrote this poem and her wish was for this poem to be forwarded all around the world.
You just never know about whether things like this are true, but I forwarded it to just about everyone on my e-mail list.
I have lost FAR too many friends at a young age. This poem just really hit home for me.
It is now officially my very favorite piece of poetry I have ever read.

I can only hope and pray that the story that went with it is not true.

A Mirror or a Two Way Mirror?

Two Way Mirror has no gap between nail.

MIRROR...has gap between finger and reflection

How can you tell when you are in a dressing room, restroom, motel room etc. if it is a mirror or a 2-way mirror?  

And I know in about 30 seconds you're going to do what I did and find the nearest mirror.

  Do you know how to determine if a mirror is 2-way or not?

A policewoman who travels all over the US and gives seminars and techniques for businesswomen passed this on.  

When we visit toilets, bathrooms, hotel rooms, changing rooms, etc., how many of you know for sure that the seemingly ordinary mirror hanging on the wall is a real mirror, or actually a 2-way mirror (i.e., they can see you, but you can't see them)?

There have been many cases of people installing 2-way mirrors in female changing rooms. It is very difficult to positively identify the surface by looking at it.   So, how do we determine with any amount of certainty what type of mirror we are looking at?  

Just conduct this simple test: Place the tip of your fingernail against the reflective surface and if there is a GAP between your fingernail and the image of the nail, then it is GENUINE mirror.
However, if your fingernail DIRECTLY TOUCHES the image of nail, your fingernail then BEWARES! IT IS A 2-WAY MIRROR!

So remember, every time you see a mirror, do the "fingernail test." It doesn't cost you anything.   REMEMBER, No Space, Leave the Place:

The year is 1910  One hundred years ago.  What a difference a century makes!  Here are some statistics for the Year 1910:

The average life expectancy for men was 47 years.

Fuel for this car was sold in drug stores only.

1910 Ford Model R

Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.

Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.

There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles of paved roads.

The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.

The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower !

Starting up this blog again has been on my to do list for quite sometime. Originally when I quit posting I almost deleted this blog. I am so glad that I did not.
The last couple of days as I have been going through all my previous posts (I still have not gone through the whole thing) is like a little mini trip down memory lane. In the 400 some odd posts that I had on here is almost like a diary.
From the photo memes, I know what the weather was like on a certain date. I can see where I was at and with whom.
From the e-mails that I turn into a post I now realize that there are those I have lost touch with.
From my comments I have received, I see sooo many good blogs and their authors that I so faithfully followed before. It took me going through this blog to realize just how much all of this meant to me.
It was a very big part of my life.
What's that saying? Something about "you can never really go back home?"
I sure hope that does not include blogging.
I am looking forward to starting this blog up again, and more importantly, to seeing you around once more.

Freedom and Jeff

Freedom and Jeff   Freedom and I have been together 10 years this summer.   She came in as a baby in 1998 with two broken   wings. Her left wing doesn't open all the way   even after surgery, it was broken in 4   places.

She's my baby.  

When Freedom came to Harvey Wildlife Center she could  not stand and both wings were broken. She was   emaciated and covered in lice. We made the   decision to give her a chance at life, so I took   her to the vets office. From then   on, I was always around her. We had her in a huge dog carrier with the top off, and it   was loaded up with shredded newspaper for her to   lie in. I used to sit and talk to her,   urging her to live, to fight; and she would lie   there looking at me with those big brown eyes.   We also had to tube feed her for weeks.    This went on for 4-6 weeks, and by then she still   couldn't stand. It got to the point where the   decision was made to euthanize her if she   couldn't stand in a week. You know you don't   want to cross that line between torture and   rehab, and it looked like death was   winning.

She was going to be put   down that Friday, and I was supposed to come in   on that Thursday afternoon. I didn't want to go   to the center that Thursday, because I couldn't   bear the thought of her being euthanized;   but I went anyway, and when I walked in everyone   was grinning from ear to ear.

I went   immediately back to her cage; and there she was,   standing on her own, a big beautiful   eagle. She was ready to live.

I was   just about in tears by then. That   was a very good day.    We knew she could never fly, so the director   asked me to glove train her. I got her used to   the glove, and then to jesses, and we   started doing education programs for schools in   western Washington   .We wound up in the newspapers,   radio (believe it or not) and some   TV. Miracle Pets even did a show about us.   In the spring of 2000, I was diagnosed with   non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. I had stage 3,   which is not good (one major organ plus   everywhere), so I wound up doing 8 months of   chemo. Lost the hair - the whole   bit. I missed a lot of work. When I   felt good enough, I would go to Sarvey   and take Freedom out for walks. Freedom would   also come to me in my dreams and help me fight   the cancer. This happened time and time again.   Fast forward to November 2000, the day after   Thanksgiving. I went in for my last   checkup. I was told that if the cancer was not   all gone after 8 rounds of chemo, then my last   option was a stem cell transplant. Anyway, they   did the tests; and I had to come back Monday for   the results. I went in Monday, and I was   told that all the cancer was gone.

So the first thing I did was get up to Harvey and

take the big girl out for a walk. It was misty

and cold. I went to her flight and jessed her

up, and we went out front to the top of the

hill. I hadn't said a word to

Freedom, but somehow she knew. She looked at me

and wrapped both her wings around me to where I

could feel them pressing in on my back

(I was engulfed in eagle wings), and she

touched my nose with her beak and stared into my

eyes, and we just stood there like that

for I don't know how long. That was a

magic moment. We have been soul mates ever

since she came in. This is a very special bird.

On a side note: I have had people who

were sick come up to us when we are out, and

Freedom has some kind of hold on

them. I once had a guy who was

terminal come up to us and I let him hold

her. His knees just about buckled and he

swore he could feel her power coarse through his

body. I have so many stories like that.

I never forget the honor I have of being so close

to such a magnificent spirit as Freedom..

A student at a high school had pancakes this week and it almost became fatal. His Mom (registered nurse) made him pancakes, dropped him off at school and headed to play tennis.
She never takes her cell phone on the court but did this time and her son called to say he was having trouble breathing. She told him to go to the nurse immediately and proceeded to call school and alert the nurse.
The nurse called the paramedics and they were there in 3 minutes and worked on the boy all the way to the hospital.
He came so close to dying.
Evidently this is more common then I ever knew.
Check the expiration dates on packages like pancakes and cake mixes that have yeast which over time develop spores.. Apparently, the mold that forms in old mixes can be toxic!
Throw away ALL OUTDATED pancake mix, Bisquick, brownie mixes etc you have in your home.

P. S. You might want to tell this to your children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and anyone else who keeps these types of mixes in the cupboard.

Yellow Jacket and Bee Stings.

Just remember, when you see a penny on the floor, pick it up. You'll
never know when you will need it.
This information may be something to remember, as this season will soon be
here again...It might be wise to carry a penny in your pocket while working in the
yard......... BEE STINGS!
A couple of weeks ago, I was stung by both a bee and hornet while working
in the garden. My arm swelled up, so I went to the doctor. The clinic gave me cream and an antihistamine. The next day the swelling was getting progressively worse, so I went to my regular doctor.
The arm was infected and needed an antibiotic. The doctor told me, ' the next time you get stung, put a penny on the bite for 15 minutes.'
That night, my niece was stung by two bees. I looked at the bite and it had already started to swell. So, I taped a penny to her arm for 15 minutes. The next morning, there
was no sign of a bite. We decided she probably wasn't allergic to the sting.
Soon, I was gardening outside. I was stung again, twice by a hornet on my left hand. I thought, here I go again to the doctor for another antibiotic..
I promptly got my money out and taped two pennies to my bites, then sat
and sulked for 15 minutes. The penny took the sting out of the bite almost immediately.
Wanted to share this information in case you experience the same problem.
We need to keep a supply of pennies on hand.
The doctor said the copper in the penny counteracts the bites. It works!
Pass this information on to your friends, kids, grandkids, etc.

"I myself have never had a real opinion on the death penalty either for or against it. Undecided. On one hand, if someone does a hideous crime they should pay the ultimate price.
But for me the question is what is the "ultimate price" In many of these cases such as those against women and children I always felt that death for them is an easy way out. BUT if they had to live with life in prison w/o any chance of parole, I would think that their lives would be lived in constant fear. The code even with prisoners is these types of crimes are a big no-no. NOT to be tolerated. Set these inhumane humans in the same yard with the rest of the population and things would get taken care of.
Of course it does not happen like that. The molesters and rapists end up segregated from the rest of the inmates for "their own protection" which of course I don't see any reason to protect them since there was no one there to protect the victims from them."

Regardless of what my personal undecided thoughts on the death penalty are, I do know one thing. That in the United States of America there should be no screw-ups in the judicial system in these cases. Anyone that reads my blog here knows I am an avid supporter of the innocence project and find myself getting e-mails from this great group of people informing me (and anyone else who will listen) that they are freeing a man who has been found innocent due to DNA testing.

Well yesterday I received an e-mail that was more than disturbing. It has now been proven that we (yes I say we) Americans have now killed an innocent man for a crime he always said he did not commit and now it is known he did not commit it.

What do we have to say for ourselves? OOPS!
I just don't think so.

I wonder how many others, sat for years on death row knowing they were innocent, telling anyone who would listen that they were innocent, and obviously we did not listen. It sickens my heart.
Perhaps we ought to rethink the death penalty if we can't get it right.
That may or may not be the answer, but we have to do something.
We can never allow this to happen again.

I urge you to take a look at the innocence project and see what this great group is doing. They need all the help they can get, let alone the wrongfully convicted men and women of the United States!

And my indecisiveness of the death penalty? I want no part in killing an innocent person!
