After a week at Mt Macedon studying exercise management back in 2006 (the longest I've ever been away from Finn) I came back to a small domestic drama. My head was still in the exercise management space and I sat down and wrote the story up as an after action review. When I found AAR recently I knew it was time to put the story into a layout.

Memory keeping and living at the same time

I've come up with my "To Do" list for 2011 - a list of creative projects I want/need to do. I've put it over on the side bar to formalise my commitment to completing them.

I'm trying hard not to be concerned that a couple of them relate to 2009 projects that aren't quite done yet. A little focused work and I can get them done. I really can.

I know that it will be great to have our Year in Review photobooks finished and printed, the others are such fun to look at and reminisce. 2009 is hard because we did so much between May and September that it's difficult to narrow the photos down, but it has to be done.

The 2009 Project 365 is just the opposite because after we got home in September I simply wasn't taking as many photos. Still, there are plenty of photos just sitting on the hard drive for that period so I'm sure I can come up with enough to make a full set and complete the recording of what was a really great year.

With so many outstanding projects I'm wondering at little at my enthusiasm to start a new one, but that's just what I'm doing. "A Year of Weekends" was a project Peppermint Granberg did for 2010 and when I heard about it I thought it sounded like a great idea. Mark has always said that getting a two-day holiday each and every week is something that you need to make the most of. As a family we try to pack a lot into each weekend and that's one of the reasons we go camping so much throughout the year.

Besides, my thinking is that I take most of my photos during the weekends anyway so I won't have to stretch too much to capture all that weekend living. A post a week for 2011 - how hard can it be? I've started a new blog to keep it all tidy, in my mind at least. You'll find it over here. One down - 51 weekends of fun to go!

Essential

Last January I chose essential as my One Little Word. The idea was to focus on what was essential to how I want to live my life, what I really want and need, and where possible to eliminate those things that aren't essential. I wrote the word on my whiteboard at work and it actually did help me there - that and a couple of massive rearranging and chucking-out sessions! My still-stuffed cupboards at home tell me I still have a long way to go with identifying the essentials.

What did happen was that this year I spent a lot of time realising just how lucky I am, and we are. I caught myself enjoying the moment, treasuring the simple events of the everyday.

I'm not sure what my word for 2011 will be, it hasn't chosen me yet - maybe it's not essential to have a new word just yet. What I do know is that these two are my essentials - now and always.

There's no way I can catch up on everything between July and now. I covered our trip mostly on on Finn's Blog and I've been plugging away at the Project 365 Blog (only 109 days behind). Suffice to say it was a great year and one we'll always remember. I've started the pages for the 2009 Year in Review book that I'll get printed at Arts Cow and I'll post them as I get them finished.

A smooth trip on SpOT 1. A lovely morning in Port Melbourne. Mum and Dad waited for us (we were the very last ones off the boat) and filled us up with porridge and weetbix, then led us out of Melbourne. A gorgeous autumn day on the Great Ocean Road. We easily found the way to our Apollo Bay digs, the very comfortable "Speculant". Already lots of places we want to check out in more detail "next time".
