This was one of my more favorite sessions from last year that I never got around to blogging because....well, basically, because I really stink at blogging! But theirs is such an inspiring story and I don't want it to stay under wraps any longer. They contacted me and explained that a year prior, they had photos done and she had super long hair to donate; however, had just found out that she had Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

She wrote in her email to me, "As a woman, you just never realize how much your hair is a part of who you are. The photos were really great and symbolized the start to that journey. Since then, I've been through 4 different chemo regimens, a stem cell transplant, and radiation, but I am feeling great! My last scan showed that I had achieved remission before radiation. So needless to say, my hair is now growing, a short pixie right now, and this is why we want pictures this year in August. Aside from having great family photos, it's symbolizing the closing of this time in our lives and all that we've been through this year. And especially how great I can rock a pixie cut!"

I am super honored to finally unveil these photos and hope and pray this post finds this beautiful couple still doing and loving well!

Sometimes, sisters are reluctant to share. In fact, when the first baby sister is introduced to a family, the firstborn sister is really real reluctant to share - everything. Mommies, daddies, toys, lollipops, storybooks, rooms, puppies, friends. They all now have to be shared and that can be a daunting task for a new big sister - especially one that is only two years old. But guess what? This particular one is doing a tremendous job! Even though her task seems "yucky" sometimes, and that lower lip tends to pull into a pout from time to time, she cannot contain the joy that she's found in having, and BEING, a sister! I hope you enjoy this sweetest of sweet family's sneak peeks from baby Olive's newborn shoot! And don't worry - big sister got a lollipop all to herself at the end of it all!

I honestly think this family may have been born in the wrong era. Then again, I think bringing some peace and love into the current world we live in doesn't do any harm. I just loved how this family coordinated and worked with me to get the session of their dreams to come to life. It was truly a matter of teamwork between client and photographer, one of a photographer's greatest passions! There was this beautiful light radiating around them as we shot, a cool breeze in the air, the freshness of spring mingled with the coming of summer. In a word: perfection. I was so beyond excited to have the honor of photographing this family for the second time. Having grown up in a military town, I'm accustomed to people moving away but rarely do I get to see them again! And they had a little addition with them that I was even more happy to photograph! Ah, little boys. What do they do? My baby turns three this week. Oh, my heart. My last baby will no longer be a baby this year. This week! All through my pregnancy and these past three years, she has proven over and over that things would not be easy for us. We will butt heads and we will fight, we will cry through our frustrations and we will love passionately. If ever there was a child after my own heart, it is her. She loves aggressively and is tenacious in what she believes. She never backs down from her true self. Words fail me in my expression of love for this child....

I have known this sweet girl for quite some time and I was super excited and honored when she asked me to photograph her and her fiance's engagement photos. This is a beautiful example of how a really good, no, fabulous photoshoot should go - just them being themselves, laughing and having fun, connecting with one another with little to no direction from me. It was pure chemistry - not just between the two of them - but between client and photographer. I wish only the very best for this happy couple!

I can't even begin tell you how much I adore this duo; their story is so cool and a true testament of facing adversity straight-on and kicking it right in the shins. Spending time with them has made me both excited and completely terrified of when my own daughters enter into "teenage-hood". It positively gives me shivers remembering what kind of shenanigans I tried to pull during my teens but Tony has single handedly taken the road of parenting a teenage daughter with such dignity, it gives me hope that I too will survive it. Not to mention that his daughter, Mackenzie, pretty much rocks; sharing with me her dreams of a her future and all that she's already overcome as well as just being able to see her heart for others in the way that she serves in missions and in children's ministry has proven to me once again that there is good in this world. I was so honored to be able to photograph them, just hanging out and being themselves. I love how their photos reflect this father/daughter dance of a relationship, which, in essence, drives you up the wall and then, just as quickly, cocoons you in comforting love. Fate itself couldn't have paired a better two...

This little guy decided to come a tad bit early - two days before his mama's maternity shoot to be exact! We never got a chance to take some baby bump shots but a week later I was sitting in their warm home staring at this gorgeous, wide-eyed boy. I adored the way he followed my camera with his eyes and would turn in the direction of his daddy's voice; He did not want to take sleeping pictures but we finally coerced him towards the end with some warm, snuggly blankets. My favorite photo is while his big sister held him, she gently leaned down to give him a soft kiss. There's no doubt about it, this family is swooning over their baby boy and you can see for yourself why....
