Much of the conversation regarding this game has been about off of the field issues, but on Saturday night, under the lights, the only thing that matters is the players on the field. This LSU offensive line is among the best in the country, and the Clemson defensive line has clearly taken a step back in the last two years. The Clemson offensive line could get nothing going against the LSU defensive line, but the 2026 Clemson offensive line seems to be on par with their 2025 forerunners, and the running back stable is much more complete, and that should allow Chris Vizzina to have more success than Cade Klubnick was able to have against the LSU Tiger defense.

Neither team could get much going last year, but expect much stronger running games out of the offenses, and ultimately, look for Same Levitt to make a play or two that is inexperienced counterpart is not quite ready to make.

Three, UVA has gone out for a second year in a row and grabbed a great veteran addition (or two) to the quarterback position. This will be a battle, and is a great showcase for the ACC in week zero. At home, the UVA offense get the job done in a few key drives, and holds onto the ball late.

Last year, Cal and Miami played, perhaps, the most exciting college football game that no one stayed up to watch. Fernando Mendoza and Cal built up a 25 point lead on Miami, before Cam Ward and the Canes stormed back to win 39-38. This might have been the evening that Fernando realized that he needed to leave Cal, for a team with a defense that would not let him down in the fourth quarter.

In the CFP, thus far, Indiana has beaten Alabama by 36 points, then followed that up with a 34 point win over Oregon. Miami has kept the score much closer through their three playoff wins, but amongst common opponents, Miami beat OSU 24-14, a ten point win, while the Hoosiers beat the Buckeyes by a score of 13-10, just a short time before. And while no one has been able to get the Indiana team off schedule, Miami has consistently disrupted the opposing offense in the CFP, and held every team they have played to well below their season averages. The Cane defensive line will have to be in the backfield early and often as Mendoza now has 41 touchdowns to just six interceptions through fifteen games, but if anyone can disrupt a good passing offense, Akheem Mesidor, Reuben Bain Jr and the Miami front line are the guys to do it. Indiana is also great when running the ball, however, and if they continue to be a problem without needing to put the ball in the air, it could be a long day for the Cane defense.

How much does the game being in Miami play into the Hurricanes' favor? While Hoosiers have been traveling well, the game is in the stadium that Miami calls home, where even the fair-weather fans are likely attempting to get into the stadium. Sleeping in your own bed, avoiding plane rides, and being able to go through your normal Saturday night home game schedule and pregame routine cannot be understated. The pressure will be on the team on the road, and that has never done it before. One of the losing-est programs of all time, having an anomalous season with dozens of fifth and sixth year covid players, versus a program that has been building for this moment over what has now been a five year period.

Miami will cover, as they have been able to handle every team's best effort in the playoff. Mimai lost 24-21 to Louisville in October, but in thei last three games, Miami has won in Hard Rock by an average score of 40-8. This will not be a blowout of any kind, but Miami has found a running game of their own in the playoffs, and they have a bunch of older guys on the roster, and they have more freaks. The defensive freaks are going to be the difference, as they disrupt an Indiana line that has been extremely cohesive, but features no real star. Look for a four quarter, low scoring battle, and look for Carson Beck to make a few key plays, likely to Malachi Toney, that put the Hurricanes over the top

In Miami's two losses, the opposing offenses score 24 and 26 points. In Ole Miss's lone loss, a game that was avenged last week, the Georgia Bulldogs needed 42 points to beat the Rebels. When the two teams met again in December, 34 points were not enough to propel the Bulldogs to victory. The Miami offense scored 34 points or more in their final four regular season games, following the SMU loss, while the Rebels have scored 30 or more points in every game since mid October, including 39 against UGA last weekend. Miami defeated arguably the most talented roster in the tournament last weekend in Ohio State, while Ole Miss might've dispatched the second most talented team. Malachi Toney is perhaps the best player playing in this game, but Trinidad Chambliss has made an argument for that title as well, and Beck has not been spectacular under center for the Canes in recent history. Rueben Bain Jr and the Miami defensive line have been in the backfield of every team that they have competed against, but Chambliss does not get rattled and throw interceptions, nor does he take more than a sack per game on average. The Miami defense has kept A&M and Ohio State off track this year, but no one has been able to keep Ole Miss off track since the early part of the year, when their then-backup quarterback was getting acclimated. Miami can win a back and forth game, as well as a defensive battle, but the offense has struggled against playoff caliber defenses thus far, and Carson Beck & Co. have yet to break through in the CFP games. This game will be close, right up until the end, but Ole miss has too much firepower, and Chambliss is the difference, late.

Plus, the Wildcats lost a few defensive backs to the dreaded opt out, which favors the Ponies. A close game after a slow first half, where the Ponies are able to make a few big plays through the air to create separation, late.

Hawaii is playing a home game, wow Cal is traveling a significant distance to get to Honolulu. Will the Bears be bought in on Wednesday, will Hawaii understand the importance of a ninth win, something rarely done on the islands. Cal looked like a focused team to end of the year, With no opt out to speak of, the team appears to have carried that focus into the postseason. This Cal team is not great by any means, but they are more talented than Hawaii, and if the defense can get a few stops, the Bears should not have issue winning this contest.

Unfortunately, Pirate quarterback Katin Houser has opted to transfer to a larger school for a better opportunity, and ECU is looking to Michael Wright Jr, a person that is playing on his fourth team in the last five years. Pitt has been high scoring all year, and their passing game has been fantastic, which is where they will probably dismantle ECU throughout the game. If the Pirates do not match score for score early, this game could get out of hand. ECU was the best defense in the American this year, and as a result, their defensive coordinator has been lured away to South Florida. This game could have some fireworks early, but the Panthers should have it firmly in control heading into the fourth quarter.

When these two programs last faced off, it was Joe Paterno versus Danny Ford, each team‘s respective greatest coach of all time. This year, it's a nice consolation prize for two programs that had loftier goals, but are instead are meeting in Yankee Stadium, in what should be a snowy atmosphere. In the NIL era, we will see what kind of depth these two teams have on Saturday, especially for Penn State, who seems to be without their entire starting offensive or defensive line. When Penn State has the ball, both the Nittany Lions and Tigers lines will look quite different, with Penn State missing 4 out of 5 starting offensive lineman, and their starting tight end. Clemson will be missing defensive standouts TJ Parker and Peter Woods, arguably their two strongest defensive lineman this year, so each side will be lacking that star power in those head to head trench battles. Penn State’s best defensive lineman has also opted to enter the portal, so Chaz Coleman will not be a part of this game after a strong freshman season for the Nittany Lions. Clemson’s most explosive wide receiver has opted out as well, but even without Antonio Williams, Clemson has lots of options at wr, essentially has a full running back room, as well as their starting quarterback for one last contest. It’s unsure whether running back Kaytron Allen will play for the Nittany Lions, it was simply said that he will be available for the game. The same was said about Dani Dennis-Sutton, Penn State’s remaining standout defensive end. Those programs have a lot of pride, Penn State would not be going to the bowl game if they did not keep fighting after James Franklin’s dismissal at midseason, so this will be a fourth-quarter battle. The Tigers have the depth edge, and if they truly want it more, should not have a huge issue pulling out of fourth quarter win on Saturday. Snow expected, along with cold temperatures, so going with a lower score.

Like Clemson and Penn State, Georgia Tech and BYU had much bigger goals this season than playing each other in the pop tarts bowl. Fortunately, playing in the most fun bowl and warm weather is a great consolation prize. This game pits Big 12 offensive freshmen of the year, Bear Bachmeyer, against Haynes King, ACC player of the year. The big battle will be Georgia Tech explosive offense, against BYU’s incredible defense. No opt outs in the contest from either side, and this should be a four quarter battle. Can King get the tough rushing yards against the BYU defense to open up the pass? Can BYU overcome the loss of leading rusher LJ Martin, who had shoulder surgery and is unavailable for the contest? This game will go down to the wire, but as they have done many times in the last few weeks, the Georgia Tech pass defense will let down the Yellow Jackets in the fourth quarter when they are needed most. The BYU offense is as explosive as the Georgia Tech offense, and the GT defense has been subpar throughout the year, and that should fall into the Cougars favor. BYU has been beaten badly by Texas Tech twice this year, but otherwise has beaten everyone on the schedule, and that trend continues in the final contest.

Expect a lot of running when Virginia and Missouri meet on Saturday. Partially because the running game is so stout for each team, and partially because season-long backup Matt Zoellers will be starting for Missouri on offense under center. Zellers was declared the quarterback of the future in September by coach Eli Drinkwitz, and this will be the audition that determines how true that statement is. Virginia is looking out to close a historical season against an SEC team that similarly had higher sights set just a month ago. Each team has lost two of their last four, and Missouri has actually lost three out of their last five, but both programs would love to end otherwise successful seasons on a high note. The 2025 Cavaliers have already matched the win total of the best Virginia team of all time, the 1989 Cavalier team that lost the Citrus Bowl and finished 10-3, so an 11th win would be unprecedented for the Wahoos and for Tony Elliott’s head coach coaching tenure. UVA is not missing much on their roster from the 2025 season, with only their nickel linebacker choosing to opt out or transfer, while the Tigers have lost two wide receivers, including key contributor Joshua Manning, and of course their season-long starting quarterback, who chose to transfer to a new program for a second time in two seasons. These teams are very similar in program stature, historically, however, Missouri is a few years ahead in the rebuild, and are stronger in the trenches right now. With each team having their conferences respective 2025 leading rusher, in terms of yards, there should be considerable success on each side, but the Missouri defensive line should be able to make a key stop late in the game to break up otherwise evenly matched contest. With the game so depending on rushing the ball, in the fourth quarter, Missouri’s lines will be able to make the plays to decide the game.

Connor has faced LSU twice, and has thrown for 209 yards and two touchdowns in two games, with the exact same score of 38 to 23 in each contest. The former Texas A&M quarterback has been explosive at times for the Cougars this year, and could be a problem Saturday. LSU is obviously more talented across the board, but will they be motivated? That is the question for Saturday. LSU was a new coach, and plenty of players could be auditioning for their positions in Baton Rouge, or potential transfer portal destinations later, so expect LSU to be ready to go Saturday night. Houston is no pushover, and they will score points, but the Tigers should be able to control the clock and run the ball as they get a new quarterback comfortable.

This will be a close contest, but I think the resolve of a Memphis team coming together to close out the 2025 season will be greater than the resolve that the NC State team has, led by CJ Bailey. NC State is marginally more talented, the losses really do offset some of the talent discrepancy, so the Tigers win a close one.

In the last 15 years, few programs have done less, as these two very under achieving programs are playing today in the playoffs. Miami has a couple of big wins on the year, as well as a couple of tough losses, one at home. The last time the hurricanes came to Texas, in early November, SMU sent them home with a 26-20 loss. Now the hurricanes head to a stadium with almost 70,000 more people, and a spot in the quarterfinals on the line. Hurricanes have the experience, with Carson Beck, a five year player and three years starter. While the veteran quarterback rarely uses his legs, his arm continues to be sharp. Since the loss in Dallas, Beck has thrown 11 touchdowns to only one interception, with a quarterback rating of around 85 in the last few contests. Marcel Reed has been quite turnover, prone against decent defenses, giving up two interceptions to LSU, South Carolina, and Texas. The quarterback was explosive on his feet against Texas, as well as LSU, but he prefers to throw the ball, , which is something that might actually be to Miami’s advantage. If they get the quarterback into a situation where he needs to throw a lot, he might turn the ball over. The Aggies are decent running the ball, and do a good job of spreading the rushing yards around, which they’ve been forced to do, due to injury, but Le’Veon Moss appears to be ready to go today, along with Ruben Owens, who has seen more action lately. Miami only allows 14 points a game, and scores around 35. A&M has allowed 22 a game, but has faced arguably tougher competition as a whole, and they’re scoring very similarly at 36 points a game. This all spells a close contest, and in front of 100,000 people, I reluctantly want to choose the Aggies, but this is just unprecedented territory for A&M, so I’m going with the Carson Beck’s experience in a late fourth quarter win.

These two teams met in September with virtually the same point spread, and these two teams delivered a classic, from the second quarter offensive explosion, to the absolute defensive stranglehold held down by both team defenses, from midway through the third-quarter, until the contest concluded. I picked Georgia in September because I thought they had a better defense, but I’m picking them in December because they are playing better in both main phases of the ball right now. While Alabama typically seems to get the better of Georgia in this situation, today will play out differently for the Bulldogs in Atlanta. While Simpson is the better quarterback, Stockton is playing better football than he was in the last meeting, this Georgia squad has had a better November, and is clicking when championship teams round into form. Look for another classic, but this time, the Georgia offense is able to connect on a few drives late in the second half.

So much talk of things other than the game in Oxford this week, as rumors of Lane Kiffin's departure continue to swirl around the program. The players have stated that they are not phased, and Kiffin seems convinced that today's transactional nature of football allows the players to compartmentalize better, themselves. On Friday, look for another classic Egg Bowl. Ole Miss is looking to notch an eleventh regular season win for the first time in program history, while the Bulldogs are looking to get one more victory in an attempt to go bowling for the first time since the 2022 season, under Mike Leach. Ole Miss can score points, but their defense can allow points as well, and MSU has been in back and forth battles throughout the year, seemingly just one step away from wining the tough SEC games over and over this year. Anything can happen in this contest, as history can attest, so a Bulldog win would not be impossible, but it should be unexpected. Trinidad Chambliss is going to have a monster day, but Blake Shapen should be able to match the Rebel quarterback for much of the game. Jeff Lebby has been on the winning side of this rivalry a few times in the Kiffin era, but not as a member of the MSU staff. Hopefully Lebby keeps the game close enough to get a chance again in 2026.

The game everyone has been waiting for in the Lone Star State, as Arch Manning and the Longhorns host Marcel Reed and the Aggies. The preseason number one, going up against a team that wants to make their mark, and give an argument as to why they are the number one seed in the tournament. While A&M can afford a loss or two to end the year, a perfect record and a rivalry win should be the goal for Elko and the boys in College Station. The Aggies have not traveled to Austin since 2010, where they have won two of their last three, and the Longhorn fans should be lathered and ready to go at 6:30 PM local time on Black Friday. This is the toughest team the Aggies have played since a September road game against Notre Dame, and A&M was able to score 41 points in South Bend, to a team that has won nine straight games since. Texas seems to have a UGA problem over the last two years, but Sarkisian teams typically perform well at home against everyone else. Each team has an elite pass rushing talent, each team has a quarterback that has an argument as to why they should be in the Heisman race. I think the difference in this contest will be Arch Manning. While he was hugely disappointing in the first quarter of the season in big games, as well as games against teams that were overmatched, the young quarterback has really caught fire in the last quarter of the year, and might be the prodigy that everyone thought him to be. Despite elite defensive play, look for this contest to be high scoring. The offense with the ball last wins, and I think Arch Manning and Texas are that team.

I’m a big fan of the things Vanderbilt is doing on offense, but the Volunteers are rolling against teams that are not top flight defenses, and Vanderbilt has lost to the top teams on their schedule through the last five games, and played around with teams that they should have dispatched. On Rivalry Saturday, Jay Aguilar has the better day between himself and Diego Pavia. This might be the best contest of the day, and the Volunteers come out on top.

A loss would probably knock Alabama out of the playoffs, considering their losses would be to teams like Auburn and Florida State, however, a win would keep the Crimson tied in the SEC championship game and firmly on the path to a top four seed in the playoff. Expect a 4/4 battle, a game that Auburn will lead at points, but ultimately look for some shenanigans to benefit Alabama late, whether it’ll be a big Tide play, or an absolute boneheaded play by Auburn.

There’s a lot to get excited about with the Panthers and their young quarterback, but the Miami roster is more talented, and are fighting for a playoff spot against a Notre Dame team that caught a lot of eyes when destroying the Panthers a few weeks ago. Miami must do the same, and they will be focused on Saturday. After a close half, the Hurricanes put it on the Panthers in the third quarter to win by a decent margin.

This contest will be a battle, but the orange are in disarray, the Eagles look like they want it more, and our more well rested.

Duke has the more talented roster, the week is playing better on defense, possibly playing their best football of the year coming into this game. Wake also has wins over the two teams that will likely play for the ACC championship in SMU and UVA, so they are no stranger to winning on the road against more talented rosters. Wake Forest is a heavily penalized team, if they can stay ahead of the chains, they should be able to run over the Duke defense that is just average, opening up the pass, which Duke is abysmal against.

This game has been a bugaboo for Virginia for the better part of 20 years, and the Hokies are riding a lot of recruiting momentum for next year right now, but that should not translate onto the field today. Virginia is fighting for a spot in the ACC championship game, as well as a potential college football playoff spot, and cannot afford a trip up against the Hokies. The Cavalier offensive line must keep Chandler Morris upright and healthy throughout the game, and Virginia should be able to get after Kyron Drones, forcing him to go to the air, something he has not been great at this year. Both of these quarterbacks have been prone to throwing interceptions at times, but Morris is generally a better decision maker of the two, and will be the difference today in Charlottesville.

NC State hosts Tar Heels, who are not bowl eligible, but have become a much more competent football team throughout the year. The same can be said for the Wolfpack, who have won two of their last three, but are just average on the season. When Wolfpack quarterback CJ Bailey has amazing games, they can beat anyone, but those are few and far between, and the quarterback is not effective through the air or with his legs in tough contests. Expect a low scoring contest, with a decent state offense against a decent North Carolina defense, and a very poor North Carolina offense against an equally poor NC State defense. Ultimately, look for the Wolfpack to make a play or two on offense to get the win in the fourth quarter.

Last year, Georgia and Tech battled through eight overtimes, before UGA was once again victorious against the yellow jackets. This year, very similar teams face off again in what will amount to a neutral site game at best for Georgia Tech, in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Tech is able to score with the best of anyone again, but the defense is lacking, like it was last year. Expect a similar contest to last year, but a contest where Georgia will make less mistakes in 2025, getting ahead early and maintaining a distance in what should be a high scoring affair. Haynes King will likely be the best quarterback on the field Saturday, but the Bulldogs are more powerful at almost every other position, and they will not take Georgia Tech lightly after the scare they had last year. The added wrinkle is that Tech likely needs this win to get into the playoffs without a conference championship, while Georgia likely does not, so Tech might actually be fighting like the dog stuck in a corner in this contest. Georgia can lose this contest if they are close in the fourth quarter, but if they are able to get the early separation, Tech will be forced play catch-up for the entire day, and that is not a contest they can win.

Kentucky has won five the last six in the series, but Louisville won the last game in Lexington by over 25 points. Louisville has a terrible problem with penalties, which has literally cost them games, and Kentucky can’t manage to hang onto the football. Teams are pretty evenly matched, otherwise This is a contest I would avoid if I did not pick every game, since I do, going with the team has not collapsed repeatedly in November.

Heading to this game on Saturday, neither team particularly looks like a team that should win this game, so it will come down who makes the least mistake mistakes. South Carolina has won two out of the last three in the series, but have not won in Columbia since 2013, and most of the games have not even been competitive. Two years ago, Clemson‘s defense absolutely dominated, but Cade Klubnick has yet to have a decent performance against South Carolina at quarterback, and the Clemson defense has collapsed late in games this year, similarly to how they gave up this game to LaNorris Sellers last year, so a safe pick is a low scoring game that the Gamecocks finally win at home, by getting the tough rushing yards in the fourth quarter to wear out the Clemson defense.

Which one of these quarterbacks will lose the game for their team, that is the real question. Tommy Castellano can be explosive, but he really doesn’t have the arm. Talent needed to win big games and it’s great defenses. On the Florida side, Lagway has not been productive through the air, it does not use his legs to the extent that he could. Contest is in the swamp, but this Florida defense is an abomination, and Florida State will be able to pass and run at will. If the Seminoles can avoid the crippling mistakes that have caused them in so many games, they should win this contest easily. That is a big if, because FSU has lost their last three road contest, and have failed to reach 14 points in any of those games. Rivalry game, often previous performance can’t be thrown out, but I think the FSU roster is more talented, so going with the Seminoles in a close contest.

No one in the country is giving Pittsburgh a chance here, but the truth is, Mason Heintschel gives the Panthers a chance every time he lines up at quarterback. Notre Dame has plenty of weapons, and CJ Carr has done a good job of distributing the ball to those weapons, but the star of this Notre Dame offense is Jeremiyah Love. The Irish running back has been a difference maker for his team, and consistently gets the tough yards and points that they need on the ground, and on occasion through the air for a big play or two. Pitt has key contributor at linebacker returning, and if their defense plays solid today, this will be a battle. Unfortunately, for the Panthers, Notre Dame has a history of treating these games with a business-like attitude, and often have a lead they can coast on from halftime in these ACC games. Pitt and Notre Dame have played many times, the Irish typically have the upper hand in the game, and often the games are not even remotely close. These teams have played twice this decade, with Notre Dame winning by 51 and 42 points, and the Pitt offense has scored no more than seven points in either game. Expect a closer game this year, but until Pitt proves they can beat the Irish, Notre Dame is the pick to make.

The most important game in the ACC on Saturday, November 15th, is the University of Virginia at Duke University, in Durham, for what is likely a spot in the ACC championship game. That is probably the strangest sentence I’ve ever written in this blog. This game comes down to quarterback play, plain and simple. When Darian Mensah plays well, Duke can beat anyone, and through the first part of the year, the same could mostly be said for Chandler Morris, but the quarterback has not had a great performance in the last month. After a poor weekend in Stors, Connecticut, look for the Blue Devils to rebound offensively. Expect Virginia to look better offensively as well, as the Duke defense is terrible against the pass, and if Morris is strong enough to play, Virginia will give them all they can handle, but a healthy Mensah is a safer bet.

NC State has had a disappointing season by almost any metric, but they have won the two biggest games on their schedule this year, and as Miami is prone to upset, this is a game to watch. CJ Bailey has played remarkably better for the Wolfpack in the past few weeks, while Carson Beck’s production has really trailed off in the last four games. Through that stretch, Miami is 2-2, and Beck has four touchdowns to six interceptions, with an average of around 250 yards passing in each game. After being essentially eliminated from the ACC championship game, will Miami be motivated enough against the Wolfpack? Tickets are available for less than five dollars, so expect a poor crowd for the Hurricanes. Look for the Wolfpack to get Hollywood Smothers going early and often, and look for the Wolfpack defense to rise up in another big game. CJ Bailey out duels Carson Beck on Saturday in Hard Rock Stadium.

North Carolina enters Saturday in Winston-Salem only two wins away from bowl eligibility, with Wake Forest, Duke and NC State remaining. The Tar Heels could win the state championship, as well as secure bowl eligibility, despite a four game losing streak in the middle of the season in which the team appeared to be in freefall. For people watching North Carolina, you could see clear improvement during that four game stretch, and the Tar Heels are now playing considerably better football, albeit against poor competition. Wake Forest appeared to be one of those poor teams when the season started, but the Deacons have quietly been a problem for everyone this season, and with the exception of one implosion, on the road in Tallahassee, have had a chance to win every game they’ve played in this year. A big part of the Tar Heel progression is that the North Carolina defense has begun to improve considerably. The UNC offense is unfortunately abysmal, but Wake Forest is a very similar team, with a stingy defense and an offense that is still trying to learn how to win as well, so his game could be a real battle. The Deacs are already bowl eligible, and fighting to secure a better destination with three winnable games left on the schedule, so there is a lot to play for in this game for each side. This should be another tough contest for the Tar Heels, as they all are, and they will be all in for the full four quarters, but after seeing Wake Forest beat stiffer competition despite only completing nine passes, I trust the Deacons’ resolve more in this situation.

Florida State outplayed Clemson in every way last weekend, but four critical wide receiver drops cost the Florida State offense, and ultimately the entire team. The Seminoles have three chances left to win two games and go to the postseason, and one has to think that is likely the benchmark for keeping Norvell in Tallahassee for another year. Kyron Drones has, unfortunately, been a huge disappointment for the Hokies, and the only yards he consistently gains are on the ground. Without a passing attack, the Hokies are going to have trouble winning in Tallahassee, where the last visiting poor-passing visiting quarterback went 7 for 21 with an interception and only 93 yards. What is worse, is that Wake’s Ashford also only rushed for 59 yards, and Drones will need to do considerably more to have a chance against Florida State on Saturday. After a sloppy weekend on the road, the Seminoles clean up things on offense and take care of business.

Quarterback play is ultimately the difference in this contest, as Matteer is not the quarterback Simpson is. In a close game, playmakers need to make plays, and Alabama has a few more of those on offense.

Florida turns the ball over a lot, but their defense also produces a lot of turnovers, so the key to their win on Saturday would likely be chaos. If Ole Miss controls the ball and avoids turnovers, their offense should create separation in this contest.

This will be the third time these teams have played in the last 13 or so months, and Texas is already lost at home, as well as in Atlanta, to Georgia in that time. This year, the Longhorns travel between the hedges, to face a Georgia team that is peaking at the right time. Texas has played to the level of their competition in recent weeks, so fortunately for the Longhorns, Georgia is playing really well. This will probably be the best contest of the day in the conference, and both teams will dole out the punches and counter punches, before George ultimately lays another haymaker on Texas in the fourth quarter. There are quite a few players on each team from last year, and that mental battle will be an extra layer for the Longhorns that could prove too difficult. While Manning and Stockton each have good days, it’s likely a Manning poor decision that delivers the victory to the Bulldogs.

Well, no one is talking about this contest, but this game is absolutely huge for both teams. Just a few weekends ago, Missouri was in the driver's seat for the SEC and the college football playoff, before a tough stretch of a few really good teams wore them out. Honestly, both teams have played well against stiff competition at times this year, but neither have been able to get the signature win that they so desperately needed. The Bulldogs have played well in their last two road contests, but that was against teams with losing records, and they still went 1-1. Missouri has lost three games, but they have lost to three of the four toughest teams in the conference. The Tigers are the more battle tested team here, and still have more to fight for. Mississippi State is one game away from bowl eligibility, and anything can happen in the Egg Bowl, but a loss this weekend makes things a lot tougher. While all the attention will be on Texas and Georgia, this might be one of the most fun games of the weekend to watch. Look for a four quarter battle, and if Beau Pribula and Blake Shapen return, look for some fireworks from both quarterbacks, before Missouri makes the decisive drive in the fourth quarter. If both quarterbacks are out, or a combination of one out, one in, Mizzou is still likely the safer bet, only in a low scoring game.

UVA needs to be careful, and not overlook the Demon Deacons, as they have shown at points this year that they can compete with anyone. Unfortunately, last weekend, the Wake defense allowed 42 points before finally scoring in he fourth quarter. If the UVA defense can pressure Ashford, he has shown throughout his career that he is mistake prone, and if Wake give UVA extra possessions, this could get out of hand as well. UVA is getting points on the ground and on defense, and look for the rushing game to get the job done again on Saturday.

Cal is reeling, as the Bears are known to do in late October and early November, while the birds with teeth are surging late, with teams that are down bad in the crosshairs for the remainder of the schedule. Look for the Cardinals to focus to finish the season, with this contest, Clemson and Kentucky at home to end the year. A lone trip to SMU might define the season, as the Cardinals will likely finish this home stretch of games 3-0, starting with today. Sagapolutele was under duress last weekend against UVA all day, and the Cavs forced two turnovers. Look for more of the same this weekend, in Louisville, out of the Bears offense.

This is the only ACC contest expected to be closer than a touchdown on Saturday, but with 8 combined losses, the national interest from previous years is definitely non existent. The Clemson offense has scored 31, 38 and 45 in their last three games with Cade Klubnik starting, while FSU finally broke the 40 point barrier against Wake Forest in their last game. Look for a lot of points, as trends will continue and the Clemson defense will continue to falter, but FSU has major character problems as well, and after losing on the road to UVA and Stanford, I don't have faith that FSU has grown enough. Clemson makes less mistakes and wins poorly played defensive game by both sides.

The upstart Aggies stare 9-0 in the face for the first time in the better part of a hundred years, and Mike Elko's squad seems to be gaining steam, heading into an incredibly manageable November, with all signs pointing to a collision with the Longhorns that could be for a spot in the SEC Championship game. Mizzou's defense is still at mostly full strength, and the Tigers have been keeping almost everyone to their season lows in the scoring column for most of the year. The Aggie defense is no slouch either, and Mizzou should have scoring or much of the night themselves, so look for another defensive battle. Sounding like a broken record, Marcel Reed will be the difference in a close game.

These games are the challenging contests for the Cavaliers and programs trying to sustain success. Virginia has had no issue getting up for the big games, and the home games, but now they return to the Raleigh area, home of their inexplicable September collapse. Last week, the Tar Heels almost won at California, and it was the best they have looked all year. Cal loves to start giving games away in October, so that was probably an outlier for the Tar Heels, not the trend. Virginia debated on giving one away last weekend themselves, as Washington State looked like the better team for three quarters (After seeing them two weekends in a row, this Wazzu team is dangerous), but after a few clutch plays by the Wahoos, and a dumb fair catch by a Washington player on a kickoff, the Cavaliers were able to win on a safety. Plainly put, UVA is finding ways to win, while UNC is finding ways to lose. Cavaliers win, but closer than expected, and the ACCCG does not seem to be getting any clearer a the weeks progress.

Wake spent last weekend resting, after dismantling Oregon State on the road. Either quarterback is capable of winning or losing this game for their team, but Ashford does not have the ceiling Jennings has, and if the Ponies can bait the Wake quarterback into a few bad decision, his game could be fairly one sided. SMU will give a few points up over the top end, but the Deacons will not be able to limit the SMU offense enough.

Ole Miss won this contest 26 to 14 last year at home, but this year, the Rebels hit the road, headed for Norman. For the Sooners, it appears that Venables’ defense is in place, and running like his best defenses, from first stop in Oklahoma and his best years in Clemson. Oklahoma nicely rebounded from their loss last weekend, and Ole Miss should do the same, off of a hard fought game against Georgia. Chambliss has thus far been a better quarterback than Mateer, and the Rebel offense is going to give this Sooner defense some issues. Kewan Lacy has also been instrumental in the early success of the OlE Miss offense, and the running back was absolutely stuffed last week against Georgia, getting most of his 30 yards on one run, in an otherwise completely unremarkable performance. As we saw last week, Ole Miss will get their yards one way or another, but in crunch time, I’m going with the Oklahoma defense. The home crowd, and the best defense in the conference, come up big, late.

This Auburn team is completely snakebitten, and team that once had a golden horseshoe, appears to have some karmic or universal correction going on, as they lose in baffling ways, weekly. Arkansas has lost so many close games as well, and with no permanent head coach in place, will their boys stay focused this late in the season? If Arkansas loses this weekend, there’s a good chance they will not win another game this year. The X Factor, in this contest might be Ashton Daniels, Auburn‘s backup quarterback, who saw increased reps in practice this week. The former Stanford quarterback was slated to redshirt, but Daniels might see action if Arnold starts to falter late. This Arkansas team has been able to score a lot of points against good teams, are due for a win, and this Auburn team just seems to be going in the wrong direction.

Preseason SEC quarterback of the year, against the likely be the postseason SEC quarterback of the year, as Sellers and Simpson’s teams collide on Saturday. After seeing Carson Beck falter last week, Ty Simpson is most likely the best quarterback in college football. And where Alabama is playing at a really high level right now, the Gamecocks have continued to get bogged down on offense against good teams. The Tide just appear to be cruising, as long as they don’t overlook the Gamecocks, they should continue to cruise, so this might be a bigger test for Kalen DeBoer. After beating so many ranked opponents, will this game be looked as a trap game from the team? Nick Saban did a very good job of coaching through perceived trap games, and if his successor wants to be truly successful, they will win games like this weekend, and win them convincingly. The Gamecocks have not been filling the stadium for many of the games this year, but when the stadium is full, it is as good as any stadium in the country, and there should be a decent crowd against Alabama, so if they kep it close, things could get interesting, late. Sellers really needs to play improved football if they want to have a chance, as the quarterback is throwing for 150 yards or less in SEC competition most weeks, and has not been able to use his legs effectively either. Until proven wrong, going with Alabama and the points is the wise decision here.

Other than losses to Alabama, both of these teams have looked good all season and are perfect on the year. Vanderbilt honestly has the easier schedule of the two teams after this contest, so a win for the Commodores could go a long way in trying to book a trip to Atlanta for the championship game, in what is a very murky field right now, other than Alabama and A&M. I don’t have a really good read on this game, and neither does Vegas, giving home team Vandy 2 1/2 points, which is basically home-field advantage for Nashville, a place that traditionally has none. Both these teams are scoring around 40 points a game, and the fireworks should be on display Saturday. Both teams have great quarterbacks that love to throw the ball, as well as run the football themselves. Pavia has been the more high profile runner, but Pribula has been getting the tough yards on the ground for his team as well. This contest is going to be a four-quarter battle, and it might come down to who has the ball last. Going with the hometown team, but this game could go either way.

This Texas team is one inexplicable loss to Florida away from being in the top 10. The Texas offense is not where they want to be, nor is Arch Manning, but the Texas defense continues to deliver, only giving up 14 points to the best team in the country in in Ohio State, six to Oklahoma, and 13 to Kentucky. Mississippi State competes with every single team they play, and have been in every game, except for a contest in College Station that got away from them. At home, with their cowbells, this contest should be close until the end, but I still give the edge to the Texas defense, who are just not allowing teams to get into the end zone. Trading touchdowns for field goals will eventually become a problem for the Bulldogs on Saturday, as this contest gets away from MSU as well.

If this contest goes the way it could (very poorly), Brian Kelly could be jobless on Sunday. The LSU defense has been good all year, and is among the best in the country, but losing linebacker Whit Weeks for a second straight contest is not preferable. The Aggies head to Tiger Stadium, a place they have never won. So many external factors seem to boil this down to history and atmosphere versus ability. This A&M team has been rolling, and if they want to be taken seriously, they have to win this contest in what has ben a house of horrors. LSU has not beaten a really good power five team this year, but also have not lost a contest at home. A&M has already gone to Notre Dame and won this year, and that win looks better each week. LSU's Nussmeier was the quarterback that everyone was talking about to start the season, but inside of the SEC, Marcel Reed is the quarterback outside of Alabama that everyone needs to take a look at going forward. If the veteran quarterback can avoid turning the ball over for a second straight week, this A&M team will leave Louisiana with a road win.

Border rivalry renewed, as Tennessee heads to Lexington. Tennessee has two conference losses already, and last weekend‘s lost Alabama looked reminiscent of loses to Nick Saban-coached teams. Will Tennessee let that loss beat them twice? If the Volunteers are focused, they can win, but as an unfocused Texas team found out, Kentucky can be difficult place to play on any given weekend. And as each team coming is off tough losses, will Kentucky be ready to throw in the towel, or continue to fight for bowl eligibility? With one upset win, Kentucky can likely go to the postseason again this year, and this is the most winnable ranked contest left, as Vandy and Louisville are on the road. With different, but equally important goals left on the table for both of these squads, expect a four quarter battle. Coaching decisions cost Kentucky a win last weekend, and Tennessee also has the edge in the coaching department, so ultimately, the Volunteers are the safer pick, but possibly closer than experts think

Louisville heads to Miami, after falling to Virginia last weekend at home. Louisville did win this game two years ago, but this Hurricanes team is a bit more focused than that team was, plus, in the ACC era, if a Miami team falters, it’s typically in the month of November. The UM defensive line should force Miller Moss into making mistakes, as he will not be comfortable in the pocket very often Friday night. On the other side, Carson Beck looks much more like his 2023 version, which made him the preseason number one quarterback entering the 2024 season, and could make him the first quarterback taken in this year’s NFL draft. Louisville is a solid ball team, and they will keep this contest close for the first half, but whether a defensive struggle, or a back-and-forth contest, Miami will create separation in the third and keep Louisville from making it closer.

Haynes King and the Tech offense heads to Durham to face the Blue Devils, where all of the metrics seem to heavily favor the Duke. Darian Mensah has turned a corner in the last three weeks of play, and after an off week, should be rested and ready to go against a Georgia Tech defense that is decent against the pass and terrible against the rush. Statistically, there are very few reasons to take Georgia Tech in this game, however, with the eye test, it is tough to look away from this Georgia Tech offense that finds ways to win. Haynes King is not lighting up the sky with passes, but he’s running the ball and getting first downs when they need him to, and this Blue Devil pass defense is pretty abysmal, allowing over 250 yards a game, so he could be a factor passing as well. The most important stat for the Georgia Tech team is that they are 24th in the nation in scoring offense, averaging 36.7 points a game, but the Duke offense is right behind, scoring 36.5 points a game. Duke went on the road in their last contest and absolutely drubbed a Cal team that was playing pretty well, while Georgia Tech beat up on perhaps the worst team currently in the ACC. In a contest this close, you start to look at things like penalties and turnover margins, Duke is +5 and turnover margin, compared to Georgia Tech’s -3, while Duke is horrendous in penalties with almost 75 yards a game, and Georgia Tech is only a little better, averaging just over 50 yards per game. Not a lot of consensus with looking at the whole picture, I’m going with the home team, but I do not care for this pick at all.

The Huskies also lost to Delaware, who is in their first year in the FCS. In another game I would not touch with a 10 foot pole, going with the home team.

The Ponies head east for a rematch of last year‘s ACC championship game. While the season is only at the midway point, it does not appear that either one of these teams will be in Charlotte this year, although, statistically, neither are eliminated. Clemson is not sure who will be playing quarterback for them this weekend, as Cade Klubnik suffered an ankle injury while putting his body on the line needlessly in garbage time last weekend. The Tigers will look to Chris Vizzina, who has never seen significant time running the offense, and has not been allowed to run the full offense when he has been seen in mop up duty. Quarterback#2 has taken the majority of snaps in practice this week, so one would assume that the Tigers are preparing to use their full offense against SMU. The Mustang offense has woken up in the last few weeks, as they have, like Clemson, played some of the poorer competition in the conference. SMU has one of the worst pass defenses in all of college football, so if the Clemson rushing attack can get going, the young quarterback should be able to deliver some deep strikes to the weapons Clemson has at wide receiver. Two things SMU has done well is sacking the quarterback, and causing interceptions, so the young quarterback will have to avoid being baited into bad situations. Last year, this game was dominated by Clemson in the first half, and dominated by SMU in the second half, before last second field goal delivered the victory for the Tigers. In the last two weeks, Clemson has scored on their first four possessions, and their first six possessions. That would lead one to believe that the contest this weekend might be similar to last year's, with the expectation that Vizzina will be able to deliver the football. The backup is an athlete, has a cannon, and is 6-4. With a week of preparation on offense, going with the young quarterback and the home team in a close contest.

LSU heads to Vanderbilt to play the Commodores in Nashville. These teams battled closely last year, were Garrett Nussmeier out-dueled Diego Pavia in a game that the Tigers controlled from the second quarter until the conclusion. Vanderbilt had an open date to consider the Alabama loss, a game that was tied at halftime, but from which the Tide absolutely controlled the entire second half. I think the loss of LSU’s Whit Weeks will allow some wiggle room for the Vanderbilt Commodores rushing attack, and Pavia is playing considerably better than Nussmeier, compared to last season when the two were going in opposite directions. This will be a four quarter battle, and if Pavia gets back to protecting the ball, the Commodores should be able to win a low scoring contest.

Oklahoma has the best overall defense in the country, while South Carolina is among the worst (123 of 129) offenses in the FBS division. The feeling here is that the quarterback that makes the most mistakes will ultimately doom heir own team. South Carolina is among the worst in red zone scoring, and Venables thrives on keeping teams out of the red zone (OU is allowing 9.8 points a game) After last weekend, there is nowhere but up for Mateer amd the OU offense, while the Oklahoma defense limits Faison, and forces Sellers into enough bad situations to compensate for their own offensive struggles.

Both teams have mobile quarterbacks, but they can toss the ball as well. The Aggie defense has not traveled quite as well in their limited away contests so far this year, so look for a higher score by an Arkansas team that has had two weeks to implement any changes under their new head coach. Ultimately, Texas A&M is too much or this Arkansas squad, but look for a close contest for much of the game, before the deeper and more talented squad takes over.

The undefeated Rebels head to Athens this weekend, after a legitimate scare against a Washington State team at home last weekend that was unexpected. Austin Simmons has finally healed enough to play, but Trinidad Chambless has done enough to be the starter at quarterback for the Rebels. How short of a leash will Kiffin have on his backup turned starting quarterback? Stockton showed some flashes for the Bulldogs at quarterback last week, the Simmons and Chambless are both better options than the Bulldogs have. Unfortunately, for the Rebels, the Bulldog defense will probably scramble whichever quarterback comes out. This Ole Miss team throttled Georgia at home last year, winning by 18 points. Georgia took their first loss at home in 33 games earlier this year against Alabama, and Georgia has not lost multiple home games in the season since 2016. Tough to go against that trend.

Mississippi State play Florida on Saturday, the and Gators are favored by almost 10 points. Maybe it is the likelihood of Billy Napier’s firing with a loss that favors the Gators, since, statistically, these teams are very similar. But where they differ, they usually favor Mississippi State. The Bulldogs are averaging almost 11 1/2 more points per game on offense, and while Mississippi State has some of the worst rushing defense in the country, Florida, comparatively, is even worse running the ball on offense. And there are the issues with the turnovers, as Mississippi State is a +5 to Florida’s -3. Evn with an afternoon game for a 2-4 Florida team with their back against the wall, I’m going with the upset by Lebby’s boys.

Texas has not won a game on the road this year, with losses to Florida and Ohio State, but they did win their neutral side contest last weekend, and their next two road games are against two of the more meek environments in the SEC. Texas rolls against a mediocre team, in stadium half filled with fans looking towards basketball season.

The third weekend in October has arrived, and the annual rivalry is renewed in Tuscaloosa this year. Tennessee won the contest in Knoxville last year, but the last Tennessee win in Tuscaloosa came in 2003. Expect both teams to play solid, and Joey Aguilar is playing pretty well for Tennessee at quarterback.. Ty Simpson, however, is playing exceptional football, and the Alabama offensive leader will be the difference in this game as he has been against Georgia, Vanderbilt and Missouri. The Tennessee is allowing almost 30 points a game, while the Alabama defense is holding opponents to just over 17 points a game. Defense travels, and in Tennessee’s case, that’s a bad thing.

Missouri lost a tough contest against the good Alabama opponent last week, and their quarterback had his toughest day of the year, throwing two interceptions, a season low 162 yards, and a season low 57% completion percentage. Jackson Arnold, Auburn's quarterback, also had a poor game last week against Georgia, throwing for less than 150 yards, with no touchdowns. He was only sacked once, which was a big improvement over the 14 sacks over the previous two weeks, but ultimately it was still a 10 point loss. While both teams need a rebound performance, Missouri has been the more consistent team all year, as their offense is considerably more potent than Auburns, and if Mizzou’s second-ranked (nationally) rushing defense can stop the Auburn rushing attack, the Tigers from the plains are in for a long day.

Pitt and Florida State head into their Saturday clash with identical records, and similar losses. They each lost two close contests in the last few weeks, and a third will essentially eliminate either team from the ACC championship race. The key battle in this game is the Florida State rushing attack, currently ranked second in the country at 295.4 yards a game, against the Pitt rush defense, currently the third best in the nation, allowing only 66.2 yards a game, so with the Panthers controlling the ground, Tommy Castellanos will be forced to win this game through the air. The wildcard in this contest is Mitchell Heintschel, who threw for 329 yards and four touchdowns last week in his debut for Pittsburgh, which makes this FSU pick one with less confidence. While Pitt could win this contest outright, I’m not quite ready to declare Pitt's new quarterback as the Panther Savior. If they do get the upset on Saturday afternoon in Tallahassee, I might be changing my tune in the coming weeks.

I think the former showed that Georgia Tech was due for a letdown game, and the latter showed how poorly Virginia Tech is this year. Georgia Tech looks solid after an off weekend, and dispatches with Virginia Tech by early in the third quarter.

Notre Dame has two close losses early in the season, but against two teams in the top 10 that are playing very well, and have beaten their last two opponents by a combined score of 84 to 20. Look for the Wolfpack to be competitive through the first half, before Notre Dame seizes control early in the third.

Wake Forest continues to play good football, but their team will be tested in different ways, as they travel from Winston-Salem to Corvallis, Oregon to play the Beavers. While it is true that Oregon State has not won a contest this year, in the last two weeks they’ve gotten very close. The Beavers were actually in Boone North Carolina last weekend, only an hour and a half from Winston-Salem, as they fell in Kidd-Brewer Stadium by three points. Maalik Murphy is the quarterback for OSU, and last year against the Demon Deacons, he went 26-34 for 235 Yds, with 1 TD and 1 interception for the Blue Devils. Wake Forest's quarterback Robby Ashford and Murphy are very similar, with lots of potential, but prone to interceptions. So many reasons to pick the Beavers in this contest, but they are abysmal on defense and the -6 in turnover margin through six games, which is among the worst in the nation, and the Deacons are able to take advantage.

The Tigers and Tide meet for the fifth time since Missouri joined the conference in 2012. They have each played home and away contests twice, and have met once in the SEC championship, where Alabama has won every meeting, most recently last year by a score of 34 to nothing at home. Missouri has set their schedule up for eight home games this year, and this will be their sixth home contest in a row, so fortunately, for the home fans, last week was an off week for the Tigers. Tigers are getting their left tackle back for the contest, which should give the line of boost against a solid Alabama defense. At the quarterback position, Beau Pribula and Ty Simpson are each among the tops in the conference in quarterback play, and expect both quarterbacks to have a great day. This could quietly be the contest of the day, and hopefully the 11 o’clock local kickoff will not subdue the home crowd. Going with Alabama, until Missouri proves me wrong.

The bad taste from the cancellation likely remains, but Chambliss and the Ole Miss offense should look good most of the day, against a Washington State defense that has improved in the last few weeks.

A two loss Texas team is favored, pretty significantly in some metrics, against an OU team that likely will have John Mateer, their quarterback, who was expected to be out nearly a month. The real chess match will be between Arch Manning and Steve Sarkesian, against Brent Venables. Oklahoma's head-coach-but-defensive-coordinator-at-heart has retaken his play calling duties for the Sooners, and the defensive numbers reflect it. No team has scored over 17 points against Oklahoma, and the Texas offensive line might not be strong enough to keep Arch upright on Saturday. In what is probably the contest of the day, expect a four quarter battle, and an Oklahoma defensive stand at the end to win the contest.

After the Razorbacks looked lethargic in a drubbing from Notre Dame, administration was forced to fire Sam Pittman, and put Bobby Petrino in his place for the remainder of the season. Petrino was already in charge of the offense, which has not been the issue for most weeks, but expect a boost of solidarity from the players in general, which often happens after a coach is fired. With the extra bit of fight, look for the Razorbacks to keep it close on the road for a little while. Ultimately, Tennessee is playing good football, and after a week off, should be refreshed and ready to go.

After three straight losses, and frankly, three straight poor performances, Florida went into the off weekend and got better. Last weekend, the Gators defeated the Longhorns, and looked good doing so. A big key was Dallas Wilson, the freshman wide receiver for whom the Gators had high hopes, before being tempered by an injury in fall camp. DJ Lagway has had an interception problem as Florida’s starting quarterback, but having an outlet like Wilson, who finished with 111 yards and two touchdowns, one a 55 yard long tight wire sideline scamper, could really get the Florida offense going in the second half of the season. While expectations for the Gators have certainly risen, expectations for the Aggies have remained high. The Aggies are better than the Longhorns, and this A&M squad looks to be a team that will rise above the 8 to 9 when ceiling that they traditionally have as a program. Florida will play well in College Station, but unfortunately for the Gators, the Aggie defense will play better than the Florida defense plays against Marcel Reed and the Texas A&M offense.

The oldest rivalry in the south, renewed on the plains on ABC Saturday night. After two tough losses on the road against Oklahoma and Texas A&M, the 11th and ninth ranked teams at the time, the Tigers welcome the 10th ranked Georgia Bulldogs to Jordan-Hare Stadium. Gunner Stockton, who many are calling a poor man’s Stetson Bennett, is playing well enough for the Georgia Bulldog offense to win, but a more dynamic quarterback would really take this offense to the next level. Luckily, for the Bulldogs, Auburn has had a problem scoring as well, failing to score more than 17 points in a SEC contest so far this year. The Tigers have only scored more than 35 points once against the power four team this year in Baylor, and a big part of that problem has been sacks. Arnold has been sacked 14 times in the last two weeks, nine against Oklahoma, two weeks ago. Georgia has now won the last eight straight in this series, and the Bulldogs should be able to grind this rivalry contest out on Saturday night.

First and foremost, two of this South Carolina team's strengths is the ability to score non-offensive touchdowns, and maintain a positive turnover margin, and these are very good strengths to have on the road. Unfortunately, the Gamecocks are heavily penalized, and awful in the red zone. LSU played likely their toughest game of the year last weekend, and performed admirably against the Rebels, while the

Gamecocks made pretty quick work of Kentucky and were the superior team at home. LSU is missing Aaron Anderson, who leads the team in yards, and a second in receptions, but is part of a larger trio, and Barion Brown and Xavien Thomas are still expected to play. This Gamecock team has beaten every team they should’ve beaten, and lost to every team that they should have lost to, up to this point. The Gamecocks battle on Saturday, and LaNorris Sellers continues to improve from his slower early season start, but so does Garrett Nussmeier, as the Tigers win a close one in the valley

Boston College and Pittsburgh face off on Saturday. It's between two teams that have lost all momentum from the early part of the season. Boston College and Pittsburgh were poised to make noise in the ACC, but are now 0 and 3 combined. Dylan Lonergan from Boston College looked good in his first two weeks in a win against Fordham, and a two overtime loss vs Michigan State. But in the last two contests against Stanford and Cal, he is one touchdown to three interceptions and just over 500 yards of offense. They're gonna have to have a better performance out of Dylan today if they expect any chance. Holstein's another quarterback that has disappointed, after a promising last year at Pitt, cut short by injury, had a great first two weeks against their first two lesser opponents. He had eight touchdowns to two interceptions with over 500 yards. In the last two weeks he's had 500 yards as well, but he's had three touchdowns and three interceptions, which could just be the result of competition increasing. This contest could go either way, but I'm going with the quarterback that has the warmer hand right now. As Lonergan seems to be going in the wrong direction, while Holstein has done less of the regressing.

After a tough loss last weekend against the Blue Devils, Wake Forest now has to travel to Virginia Tech who is coachless, but undefeated in ACC play. Unfortunately for Virginia Tech, quarterback Kyron Drones has not been what they've wanted him to be in the last few years, and it ultimately cost their coach his job. In the last two weeks Wake Forest has shown a lot of fight in losses to NC State and Georgia Tech. The loss to Tech was really a shame, as Wake held control of that game for the majority of regulation, before Georgia Tech scored late to send it to overtime. At the quarterback position, neither Ashford nor Drones is dangerous through the air, so this game will be won on the ground, and the Deacs have a potent ground game. There might be some course correcting in the football universe this week after the upsets last week, but I'm calling the Wake Forest upset.

Virginia at Louisville. Last year Louisville and Virginia had a back and forth affair in Charlottesville, with Louisville scoring the go ahead touchdown with 1:55 left in the fourth. This year the teams reconvene in Louisville with higher stakes, as both are undefeated in conference play. Louisville thus far has had a much easier schedule, while the Virginia is one and one in their tougher games this year.

Virginia was able to hold the ball against Florida State last week with sustained drives, and I am sure they'll try to do the same. The biggest concern is Morris's interceptions, on the road at Louisville, where a turnover or two might be the difference. The only time Virginia has lost this year has been on the road in a close game to NC State. Can the team overcome the away environment and Chandler's likely turnovers? Virginia is doing a good job running the football, and has one of the best offenses in the country right now in both scoring and yards. Louisville, on the other side, has a stout defense. On the inverse, Louisville offense is fine, as is the Virginia defense. The Cardinals were able to rally from a 10-point deficit last week, coring in the second half with two touchdowns and a field goal, while holding Pitt off of the board completely. One team had a large upset win at home, while the other had a character building gutsy win on the road. Everyone's talking about Miami versus Florida State, but this might actually be the best game of the weekend. Rolling with Virginia.

Duke heads to California, an early season surprise this year in the ACC, as on paper, it looked as if they would be left for dead by week six. Again Wilcox has the Cal defense playing well, allowing just over 18 points per game, with an average of 100 yards rushing per game, and less than 200 passing yards at 195.8. The Duke defense is scoring 34.8 points per game and are racking up 471.8 yards per game to Cal's 307.2 on defense. The Duke defense has not been great, and are statistically both in the bottom quarter in yards allowed per game and passing yards, and their scoring defense pretty close to the bottom as well, allowing 26.4 points per game. As a team, Duke is heavily penalized, one of the worst in the FBS, 122nd with 75.4 penalty yards per game, and on offense they also barely hold onto the ball, at an average of 27 minutes 14 seconds per game. How Darien Mensah performs on the road will go a long way as to determining who wins this ballgame, and he had a really good game at Syracuse last week, with two touchdowns, going 22 for 28 for 268 yards. for Cal, Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele has been serviceable at times, but pretty up and down overall. Some games he's had multiple touchdowns to no interceptions, and others with no touchdowns and multiple interceptions. So, how Sagapolutele plays will go a long way as to determining whether Cal can keep up with Duke or not.

While the Bears could upset the Blue Devils, but I feel better about Duke in this game.

Plainly put, Kentucky is struggling to score points this year, and have failed to score more than 23 points against a Power 5 opponent. On the other side of the ball, UK are also allowing over 30 points per game to power four opponents. Assuming that Georgia can shake off the cobwebs from the loss at home last weekend against a tough Alabama opponent, the Bulldogs should have little issue with the Wildcats. Gunner Stockton is nothing special at the quarterback position, but is more than enough to keep the Georgia offense going in this game. Still, I would imagine that the Bulldog fans are looking down at Coral Gables with a little bit of envy as Carson Beck is tearing defenses apart.

Much is being made of Texas's upcoming road schedule, but this is only week one of that schedule, so it's not like any fatigue will be affecting them at this point. Arch Manning has definitely underwhelmed this year as a quarterback. The Longhorns are still quietly undefeated since their opening game loss to an Ohio State team that's possibly the best team in the country (the Hurricanes would like to argue about that). While the Gators are at home, I just don't believe in DJ Lagway at this point. The Florida rushing game will keep this a lot closer than it should be, as they will be able to maintain possession and keep the ball out of Texas's hand for extended periods of time. At the end of the day though, the Longhorns are the better team, and look for them to play as such on Saturday

Vanderbilt heads to Alabama, after winning the first of this home and home series last year in Tennessee. The crowd was 80 % Alabama last year, and the crowd will be 99 % Alabama today, so don't look for Diego Pavia to be phased by the away crowd. Alabama is playing like a completely different team that lost Florida State in week one, and are going to be a real problem or anyone that has the Tide on the schedule going forward. And while all the attention has been on Diego Pavia in Nashville, Ty Simpson has been fantastic this year leading the Alabama offense. Quarterback play was not the reason that the Tide defense could not get off the field against Florida State in week one, but the defense has obviously improved since, and are only allowing around 17 points of game against power 4 competition. The revenge factor is there for the Tide, but Vanderbilt is a good squad again this year. Look for a contest closer than the experts think, but Simpson and the Tide offense get the job done in the fourth quarter.

After riding high through the first quarter of the season, the Mississippi State Bulldogs lost a tough one last week at home against the Volunteers in overtime. This week, they hit the road for College Station to play a Texas A&M team led by Mike Elko, that is 4-0, with two solid Power 4 wins already against Auburn and Notre Dame. The Bulldogs went toe to toe with the Volunteers, and Lebby's squad has a strong offense, but the real story emerging is that MSU has a surprisingly formidable defense. For the Aggies, Marcel Reed is really having a good year at quarterback ,and this contest is ultimately Marcel Reed versus the Mississippi State defense (Although a good b-line story to watch will be the Bulldog offensive line, as State is missing their starting right tackle). This contest will be close for our quarters, but ultimately, the A&M offense will be too explosive, and will get the plays at the end needed to win the game at home. But this Mississippi State Bulldog team will continue to give everyone problems, and they have a chance to really ruin a season or two as the year progresses

Syracuse played dominant football on both sides of the ball for a half at Clemson, before getting bogged down in their offense, which was capped by a non contact Achilles tear by the starting quarterback. For the Blue Devils, after a sluggish first part of the year on offense, they found themselves against the Wolfpack defense to the tune of 45 points, with 24 of those coming in the second half. The Syracuse backup quarterback did throw the only Orange touchdown of the second half last weekend, but ultimately I trust Duke to do just enough with their blossoming offense.

Louisville and Pittsburgh return to play after each spending last weekend off. Pittsburgh lost to their rival West Virginia, who have since, lost to Kansas 41 to 10, while Louisville has smashed two tomato cans and beaten a decent James Madison team at home. This is the first road trip for the Cardinals, and this is a crucial contest for both teams, needing to get a leg up in the ACC race that looks to be very competitive this year. Miller Moss and Eli Holstein each place fairly mediocre in their last contest out, and the team is better quarterback play will win on Saturday. miller Moss has not been required to win with his arm to this point, and he will not entirely have to do that on Saturday, but look for the Louisville offense to have the better day in a close contest.

Boston College has last weekend of, after losing by ten at Stanford the weekend before. Dylan Lonergan has played well or the Eagles, throwing for over 300 yards against their power four opponents this year, and this is Cal's first cross country trip of the year.

Notre Dame ultimately wins the game because they are more talented, and they will play the cleaner game.

Against Southeast Louisiana, the Tiger offense finally woke up, as expected. The LSU office will need to continue to run well this weekend, as Ole Miss has scored over 30 points in every single contest this year, averaging over 35 points against sec competition, so far. Nussmeier and the LSU offense have not shown, thus far, that they can keep up with a power four school in a shootout, and the rebel offense has continued to run with Trinidad Chambliss seamlessly taking over for Austin Simmons. The home team has won the last five in this contest, with three out of five being close contests, and look for 2025 to be the sixth year in a row that the home team has come out on top. In the fourth quarter, the Ole Miss offense gets the better of the LSU defense.

After coming up on the short end of the stick in Oklahoma last weekend, the Sooner transfer and the Auburn Tigers head to College Station to face a Texas A&M team that is looking to break with tradition as they hunt for a double digit win season, for the first time in forever. Mike Elko was able to buck such trends at Duke, and should be able to rise above with the Aggies, if any of them can protect their home turf against some of the more middle of the road SEC squads. Marcel can read continues to grow at quarterback for A&M, no he threw his first interception of the season last week, he had his biggest game, 17 completions for 360 yards. If the A&M offense can average almost 10 yards a catch on Saturday, they should have a little problem dispatching with Auburn. The Aggie defense allowed 40 points to Notre Dame in their last outing, but they have been dominant against lesser teams in the first few weeks of the season, so there is reason for optimism, heading into SEC play. Transfer wide receivers, Mario Craver and K.C. Concepcion, have been invaluable portal additions that continue to make big catches.

Essentially a 50-50 matchup on ESPN’s FPI, in a stadium that will likely be 50% NC State fans, where the home team are just over a field goal favorite, this game is expected to be close. Duke went to Tulane last weekend, where they promptly threw interceptions, turned the ball over on downs multiple times, had field goals blocked and missed, and still only lost by seven despite playing as poorly as they could for the first three quarters. Likewise, NC State went to Winston-Salem last week, and was down 14 to nothing before they woke up. The team that starts quicker will be the winner on Saturday. Duke has won the last two in this contest pretty convincingly, but the Blue Devils have not proved themselves to be trustworthy in 2025, as of yet. Most of the talk for both of these teams is on their quarterback, but Hollywood Smothers will be the difference in the contest, getting the tough yards, and the win for the Wolfpack on the road.

Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, the Cal quarterback, has been one of the real surprises of the early part of 2025, and he will pass his way to victory in San Diego on Saturday.

This contest could be close for the first half, but Arkansas has a real two headed rushing monster in Green and Washington, and assuming those backs stay healthy, the Razorbacks are going to be a real thorn in anyone’s side for the rest of the year.

Auburn is a solid squad, but if Mateer is playing lights out for the Sooners, this will be a difficult contest for Auburn, as their passing game has not been nearly as dependable through the air through the first quarter of the year. But Jackson Arnold and the Tiger rushing game will get their yards on the ground, which will keep this competitive throughout. In the fourth quarter, the home team gets the job done with a Venables defensive stand.

Tulane shocked Duke by winning in New Orleans last weekend, and now the Green Wave head to SEC territory to face the Rebels on the road. Austin Simmons ultimately did not play for Ole Miss last week, but it did not matter, as Trinidad Chambliss extremely accurate in his start last week. Trinidad will likely get the start again on Saturday against Tulane, and the Green Wave is looking to add the SEC to the list of conferences beaten in 2025, after wins against the ACC and Big Ten. The competition is ramping up severely, as the previous wins were against Northwestern and Duke, but Tulane will be able to hold their own, offensively, on Saturday. The issue will be on defense, as the Ole Miss depth has already shown to be solid this year with the quarterback situation, and will likely reveal itself at other places when they outlast Tulane in the fourth quarter.

Blake Chapin has played well, especially in the win against Arizona State, and the bulldog leader will have his team ready to play on Saturday. Still, Northern Illinois is a scrappy team, and will compete in this game until the end.

After beating the Gamecocks five straight times, in games that often were often not very fun to watch, in 2024, Missouri was edged out on the road in what was likely the most competitive and entertaining fourth quarter of the year in college football. The Gamecocks were double digit favorites in that contest, and Missouri is almost a double digit favorite against the South Carolina this weekend. Look for another classic, as the LaNorris Sellers returns the lineup for the Gamecocks, and Beau Pribula slides into the role that Brady Cook held last year for Mizou. While we don’t know quite yet if the battle for Columbia will continue after the SEC moves to nine games, we do know that Saturday will be closer than the spread once again, with Gamecock running back Rashul Faison coming through in a big way multiple times on Saturday. Unfortunately, Sellers has not risen to his 2024 heights thus far, and until he does, games like this will be tough to win on the road. Closer than the experts think, but the Tigers get the win.

The Hurricanes continue their conquest of Florida on Saturday, as they welcome the Gators from Gainesville to Hard Rock Stadium. Carson Beck is 2-0 against the gators, and neither game was particularly competitive. Miami is looking like one of the best, if not the best team in football right now, and today is a real test. For the Gators, can they avoid turnovers? If UF continues to give the ball to the other team, this game will be ugly, quick. these teams do not often play each other, however, there is no love lost between the fan bases. With Texas as well as Texas A&M on the horizon, and with teams like Mississippi State, who are sneaky good, as well as Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Florida State on the schedule, will Billy Napier survive the year with a loss today? Seems unlikely. One can imagine why games like this will not be on the schedule, going forward, when the SEC moves to nine games. Florida simply cannot afford to lose this game today, and they don’t have the horses to win it. Miami wins at home, it looks good doing it.
